ok, i have a rooted mt3g 32b and i downloaded the setcpu app so i can overclock past 528 (i want it at least at 650-700 max). i know there are risks but i'm not worried about that. i need someone to help me with overclocking it. i can do the basics as far as clocking it to the max 528 standard but i want more...

As I like to test all roms, i thought i would post in this forum, i read a lot about overclocking etc, now I have a 32b magic, and i got the setcpu application, I use my phone a lot on opera mini, calling and texts, and the odd game, been told overclocking uses more battery, but whats the best setting for my phone, someone says put max 528 minimum 122, others say as i browse a lot put maximum 245 minimum 122 which i presume is underclocking, thanks for any help given btw im running CaNNoNs 2.2.1 rom
528 is overclocked on the G1, it's whatever the setting is around 300 that is the default clock speed.
Overclock if you want speed. Under clock if you want more battery life. That's it.

Or use Pershoot's kernels and overclock/undervolt. I prefer Dumfuq's balls-to-the-wall overclocking b/c it's no big deal to carry an extra battery
Maybe it would be a good idea to have a Sticky for overclocking!
I just installed Serendipity 2.0 w/ Glitterballs' latest kernel, which supports OC up t 1.2 GHz, and I wanted to know, is it possible to stably overclock my phone to 1.2 GHz without variable frequency or UV?
If so, how would I go about OCing my phone?
Also, will OCing affect the health of my CPU and lead to increased wear and tear in the long run?
Thanks in advance
If all you want is to overclock, you don't have to change anything.
Unless you plan on keeping your phone for 5 years OC won't do any harm.
Sent from my Captivate.
Thanks MikeyMike01! Looks like I'm going to OC then. And btw, I'm a huge fan of your ROMs
This kernel is created specifically for sense roms It will more then likely not work in it current state on any AOSP based rom
Features
Overclocked to 1.51ghz and stable as ever (for most)
added in smartass and interactive cpu freq govs
added in TUN support
compiled v4l2 as modules
many more....
for a full list of changes check the commit log here
Quirks
Smartass wont scaled below 768mhz atm im looking into it stick with interactive for the best overall experience for now.

Awesome! I'll give my feedback as to how it is working.
I did notice once a governor is selected you have to reset your Mhz or it will stay on 806 max. Also this kernel doesnt want to work with OC widget at all but works fine with SetCPU. I've always liked OC widget a little more as it uses less battery than SetCPU.
Great work so far BC your the man. Been running this bad boy and havn't had a single reboot @ 1.5ghz. Though my battery is going quick for some reason, dont know why
This'll work on the stock Sense?

Looks like it should, yes
Thank you very much for this. I can confirm that this is running well on stock.

Now, coming from the Moment I've never used an OC kernel... anything I should know? Any tips?

If you get random reboots, it means it's OCed a bit too high; just scale it back a bit and you'll be fine if that ever happens
Is this running at 1.5 all the time or does it throttle between ranges?
What is the default range?
Does the user have to do anything to enable or set the throttling?

As noted above, I'm new to OC'ing but I'm pretty sure you have to set it to the ranges you want via something like SetCPU or OS Monitor. I believe default is gonna stop at 800mhz unless you scale it up.
EDIT: And thanks Impaler for the help!

Use SetCPU and select the Mhz/governor you want to use. Each Governor "Throttles differently"

No problem, I'm here if you need anything else
What are some good range options?
I'm using 800 min 1.5ghz max interactive. Profiles I have setup: charging 1.5ghz performance, screen off 800 max 245 min
Bumped it up 1.1ghz min 1.5ghz max interactive, going to see how much that affects my battery life

I have mine set to 768 min and 1.4GHz max interactive
Charging is 1.4 performance
screen off 245 min and 800 max interactive.
I don't want to push up around 1.5 until I'm sure this is more stable on my phone.

there no real need to have it running at such high freqs all the time mine is set at 245 min 1.31 max usually n got no lag what so ever
the higher speeds are more for gaming and cpu intensive applications
todAY HAS been a good day for HTC EVO SHIFT 4g android development. downloading kernal now! thanks for the hard work
BC you need to set your Donation link up like Impaler. I dont have paypal and it says you have to log in. Impaler's lets you pay with just a credit card. I will send a donation if I can do it without a paypal account.

Will an overclocking .apk be made for the O3D?
Is this possible rather than the current method which is being used in the custom ROM's?
I'm a noob so please bare with me.
with overclocking you would use setcpu or something similar to set the frequency. right now oc for this phone is still in a very early stage which is why we only have the top speed. once we get everything worked out you will be able to set multiple oc speeds in setcpu. i am working on trying to make 1008 available in setcpu so that you can then select from 300, 600, 800, 1008, 1188(or whatever you are oc'ed at) it will all come in due time for now all we can change is the top speed
...fighting ninjas at night, talkin' about this and that.
Cool. Just a case of waiting then.
Thanks for the reply.
hi every1.
I've been searching but didn't find any info about the topic.
Does someone knows how or just tryed already to overclock the gpu to higher rates? (i would like to get more to play better games).
another question: i'm using the matr1x kernel (17.5) and in the menu i have an option to overclock the gpu but there're options to get it to 1000Mhz? really?
Which are the riscs?
I apreciated any info.
thanks in advance

stock nexus s gpu is at clocked at 200mhz. you CAN NOT overclock it 500% to 1000ghz. thats just silly. thats like overclocking your cpu to 5ghz. the highest ive overclocked my gpu or ran a kernel that already has it overclocked is 250mhz. thats a 25% oc

That's the CPU clock you're looking at. LiveOC can overclock the GPU as a percentage value (ie, 110% is 200 * 110% = 220mhz), but it does the same to the CPU (so 1000mhz turns into 1100mhz). This will generally need adjusting the voltages upward.
So no need for any app to oc, just increase the LiveOc % ?
ya, that question about overclocking the gpu to higher then 300mhz was really silly, but asked t anyway
GPU Clock is stock at 200mhz, CPU is at 1000mhz. Increase LiveOC % and you'll go up by that percentage. Just remember, as i said, you will most likely need to adjust voltages to prevent instability and reboots. It's best just to set all of this up using NSTools.
Ok. I've tryed oc to 110% but instable. just need to set voltages to get the right combo.
Thanks!!
Not all phones can handle such an OC (either because of GPU or CPU, or combination, it all varies). Hopefully you can get a stable setup, the extra GPU OC is a great performance booster.

And what a performance booster... I never bothered to try the LiveOC... I just OCed the CPU and thought that was the most I can do. But with 110% LiveOC and 1300MHz CPU OC, my phone is now eve faster than before.
