Calculator question - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hi, I recently purchased HD2 and found one interesting thing with calculator. First - it das not have percent button in portrait mode. Second in landscape mode it does have it but if you do 100-20% you get answer 99.8. Is there some other calculator which would solve these two problems on HD2?

maybe you should try 100%-20%, as 20% is 0.2

This was discussed some weeks ago. The HTC calculator acts like Excel and the Google search bar in treating the % function as an immediate "divide by 100" button whereas most actual calculators (and faithful emulators) treat the % function as "divide by 100 then multiply that result by the previously-entered number." Effectively, the calculators imply "of the previous number" when using the % key.
Let's look at your question again using 150 as the first number:
So, 150 - 20% to HTC, Excel, and Google is 150 - (20/100) = 149.8
While 150 - 20% to a calculator is (150 - (20/100 * 150) = 120

Oooooooooh, now I understand : ) Thanks for clarifying that. I've been using Power Calc from the Omnia 2. I can't get it to auto rotate, but it has a button to switch between portrait and landscape so it is no biggie. Best of all, the percentage button is present in portrait and scientific views, and it functions like a normal calculator. there's a cab file somewhere on XDA if you search. If I can find it I'll post a link in due course.
Okay, I can't find Power Calc on XDA because I'm useless at searching, but there's a link to a cab file here: www.modaco.com/content/i8000-omnia-ii-gsm-rom-discussion/298414/cabs-repository/

Thanks for explanation and link. will try that after work.

Missing % In calculator

When I bought the TD2, I liked a lot the fancy calculator it includes: Its nice design was a nice upgrade from the cheap-looking WM one.
However, I soon realized that it missed one important function: The percent (%). It lacks many other useful functions of course (just like the WM one does), but the % function is a must-have in my opinion.
It is a pity that due to this problem I will have to switch to the miserable WM calculator again... Does anybody know of a way to add the % functionality in the TF3D calc? Otherwise, any other nice touch calculator that you might suggest, that has all the essential stuff without being overkill (and over-size in MBs)?
I never understood why anyone would use the percent button?!..if you can just type x.yz (z.B. 0.42 for 42%) instead?
So they removed it to save space, i guess.
It is very fast and useful when you want to add and subtract percentage. Otherwise, you have to do the all the math...
E.g. if you want to subtract 27.55% from 5,340 you have to do:
Step 1: 5,340 X 0.2755 = 1,471.17
Step 2: 5,340 - 1,471.17 = 3,868.83
...instead of just typing 5,340 - 27.55% and getting the same result...
Believe me, if you need to do many percentage calculations, this is much, much more convenient.
Run calculator then turn the D2 to landscape view and see the changes

Agreed, you can do it with 13 characters... But since you are meticulous, let me point out that the % way is still shorter as it is 12 characters (5340-27.55%=)...!
Anyway, the essence in this thread is flomet's contribution regarding the advanced landscape mode. Well done, mate!

Well, great deal with turning, didn't know that.
BUT: 200+10%= 200.10 ????
How do I calculate to add 10% to a number???
When you use the percentage function in any calculator, it works like this:
X <operator> Y% = X <operator> (X*Y%),
where <operator> xan be + or -.
In simple words when you type 30 + 10% it means 30 + (30 * 10%) = 30 + 3 = 33. Another example could be 1000 - 20% which is 1000 - (1000 * 20%) = 800.
And so on...

So far for the theory.
I'd be glad if this worked on my TD2. It does not. When I press 200 + 10% the TD2 calculates 200.10!
(And 200 * 10% + doesn't work either)
So how do I use the %-button on the TD2?

WTF??? You are absolutely right after all... The TF3D calc actually does NOT support adding and subtracting percentages... I just tried it myself.
Therefore, the only solutions are (a) to use decimals (e.g. instead of +10% use * 1.1), or (b) use the parentheses that are also provided in the calc.

I’m just curious how many recourses dose HTC spend to make a **** out of simple calculator? Does any body know how to bring old WM calculator back?
You can install 1CalcLite.
This freeware includes a working %key.

[APP][4.0+] CyanogenMod's Calculator

Market Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3

Calculator
Calculator is focused on extending the traditional 4 function calculator, keeping its simplicity while still adding features used in higher level math. It uses the original Android calculator as a base.
The project was started by me in June 2012 and by October 2012 it was accepted into CyanogenMod. Since then, users of the app have helped greatly in cleaning up the ui, improving the matrix features, and translating the app into all the languages currently available. Without them, this app would be nowhere near as polished as it's become.
Because the app is intended as a full replacement, it's recommended that you hide your default calculator by either disabling it (v4.1+) or using a custom launcher. Otherwise, the similar app names may prove confusing.
Calculator has the following features and more:
-Basic arithmetic
-Trigonometry
-Complex numbers
-Graphs for X,Y functions
-Matrices
-Hexadecimal and Binary support
-Widget for lockscreen and launcher
-History of previous calculations
-Themeing support
The app is completely open source and the source can be downloaded at: https://github.com/Xlythe/android_packages_apps_Calculator/tree/ics
Note: The pictures below are old and from the beta test. Check out the market link for more current pictures.

This totally made me LOL. Thanks for starting work on this. It's about time someone improve upon the stock calculator (which is just an embarrassment in its stock state for a utility on a smartphone of all things).
I'll keep a watch out for this
wow. looks promising so far, cant wait to see where this app goes
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.........u literally saved me from carrying my Clucky TI-84 calculator

Seems to work (only tested the Stock Functions)
One thing that dont work:
on Stock Google Calculator youre able to drop down the Panel to see your last functions you did .
(sry english isnt my main language so its kinda hard to explain what i mean exacly)
If you dont know what i mean, ill try to send you some screens tomorrow
I think I know what you mean, but some pictures would be very helpful. [: If I broke it, I can fix it this weekend.
To Everyone:
Which is less confusing? Having an X and a Y key or having an X and a Y= key?
hi nice looking app, however is it possible to show the last few calcuations (history mode)? looking for something simliar to the default windows 7 calculator.
That's what blutlust is asking about too [: I think I may have broken it because I remember it being there before. I'll try to fix it tomorrow or Saturday.
ill send you the screens in a message because i didnt post enough to implent them in this post.
to your question about the x - y key :
if the button give you the solution of the equalation, then x = would be better
You meant like that? I don't remember that in the CM9 app. Is that someone elses mod?
Either way, I can add it to this one too now that I know what it looks like.
-------------
About the Y, Y= thing. Actually, I'll ask this. How many of you couldn't figure out how to graph?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yeah i meant like this, i posted on the Screens.
This is the Stock Calculator on Samsung Galaxy S 2 , just the color are modified to fit the ICS Theme
About the Graphs, they arent necessary for me at work, but functions like sin, cos, hex, bin, dez are important.
1.1's been released. It's almost entirely focused on matrices.
Change Log:
-Cross and dot product
-Matrices scroll downwards instead of left and right
-Spacing added between panels in Tablet mode
-Small tweaks to the matrix popup
I'll focus on a pull-down for history next. And blutlust, you want buttons to turn the answer into Hexadecimal or Binary?
Edit:
Does anyone know of an open source project for pull-downs like the notification bar? Or an app that uses them?
Yeah, this Buttons would be Nice for Sure
(only if you want to do this)
I dont remember any Opensource Project with this dropdown menü, but if it helps, ill send you my Calculator Apk, so you can take a look.
Sure, that'd be great. It would let me play with it and see how its done. [:
I added logic for turning the answer into Hex and Bin so it'll be in the next release.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Ill send you a PM with download Link for Calculator.
One more Suggestion/Tipp :
Is it only possible to show the answer in bin & hex or is it possible to calculate in bin & hex
For example : 0001+000e =000f or
0000 0010 + 0000 0001 + 0000 0001 = 0000 0100
Thx btw for Hex and Bin implementation
Alright, I'll have to add a toggle: Hex, Bin, Dec, as well as A, B, C, D, E, and F buttons. Otherwise I won't know if 10+10 equals 20 or 100.
The apk won't install on my Nexus 7 so I'm going to see if I can't flash it in recovery.

Sounds really good .
Cant wait to test it at all
Hopefully Samsung didnt play around on this apk for the Calculator
Thats the only i thing why i think, the apk wont install on your Nexus.
If the Trick with flashing dont work, i dont know any other Calculator who support/got a Drop-Down History :|
Gah, I've been silent for a while, sorry. I found a few bugs in my Hex app and felt obligated to fix them. So that and work have been eating up my time. The ETA for the next update will probably be Sunday or Monday since birthdays are lazy days and mine's tomorrow.
The plan for the next release is:
New panel for containing A,B,C,D,E,F,Hex,Dec,Bin
The plan for the release after next is:
Settings page with option to turn off panels
History pulldown (I hope. Haven't figured out how to do this yet)
Thanks for the support and advice / feature requests are all welcome! (Doesn't mean I'll actually do it, but hey, definitely welcome!)
Then, have a nice Party tomorrow and take the time you need
Good things take time to work flawless
Alright, there's a page for Hexadecimals in the code. I at least got that far. I didn't finish the logic for switching into Hexadecimal or Binary though (it's maybe 50% complete). Ah well, ya'll get an update on Tuesday or Wednesday.
To make up for it, here are some pictures:

Calculator Wanted on the Samsung Galaxy S III

I want the Calculator on the Samsung Galaxy S III. Can I get this App without having to Root, (and where). If Rooting is the only way, is there an App that has the Samsung Galaxy S III Calculator?
Currently, I have the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX, {XT912}; with Ice Cream Sandwich, (Android 4.0.4).
However, what I really liked about this Calculator was that I could be at Sam's Club and spot 48 AA Batteries on Sale for $14.97,and then Later be at Wal-Mart and see they were selling 40 AA Batteries for $11.97. Is this a Good Buy? I'd Check my Calculator History, and yep, the batteries at Wal-Mart are 0.29925 cents each and the Batteriest at Sam's Club were .311875 cents each. So the batteries at Wal-Mart are Cheaper per Battery, but less in Quanity.
I really like this Calculator, and I've tried and tried and tried to find a replacement for it on Play Store and I found one that is just about as good, (the History is not in Color like the Samsung Galaxy S III is). That one is the "Calculator Mem Pro".
Try "RealCalc Pro"
Works really well; outside of the typical functions it has a good unit converter, which I use frequently. You can also set the history to save up to the last 50 results.

I bought and have RealCalc Pro. It's nice and does most all that I'd Expect... However, the History was not in Color like the Samsung Galaxy S III's History. I have found a Great Calculator that I think Motorola will want to consider for their next Stock Calculator. It is called "Calculator Mem Pro", (the Calculator Mem, {not the Pro Version}, with Ads may show Porno Ads).
Calculator Mem Pro Rivals the Samsung Galaxy S III Stock Calculator, and Beats it by a Mile~! Includes the Plus / Minus Change Button, a Percent Button, Parentheses, Plus a History, Memory Plus / Minus, the Colors can be Changed, and as a Super Added Bonus it can also be a Widget~! The History can Copy either the Formula or the Results or Import to the Display, or Copy or Send to Email. Calculator Mem Pro is by far the Best Normal Accounting Calculator that I've found, with RDev Calculator being my 2nd Choice.
I found several other Calculators that were more Specific like Scientific Calculators, (like RealCalc Scientific Calculator / RealCalc Plus) that also had Plus / Minus Change Button, a Percent Button, Parentheses, Plus a History, Memory Plus / Minus, and even had a History, but they are pretty Complex, or Intimidating looking.
* * * * *
I went through about 25-35 Calculators, including...
CalcBuddy
calCOOLator
CalcRT, v.1.3
Calculations, (or Calculations 4.0 Pro)
Calculator 3, v.1.1
*Calculator Memory Pro, v.2.5.2
Calculator, (UtopicSoft)
*Calculator Calzo Free No Ads
*ClickCalc
Cool Calculator
Easy Calculator
handyCalc, v.0.53,
*MobiCalc, v.1.3.8, ~ Dark
My Basic Calculator,
My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions)
Office Calculator Pro, v.3.1.0
*RDev Calculator
RealCalc Scientific Calculator
Seven+ WP7 Calculator,
ShakeCalc
Simple Calculator
StdCalc
*Total Calculator-Paid,
Twin Calculator
*RDev Calculator and Calculator Memory Pro are my Favorites so far, (they have Functionality and Color). RDev has a Built in FUNC Key, where the Default is x+15% , {This percentage can be changed}, Great for Tips, enter the amount and Press FUNC and it will Calculate how much to pay including the Original Cost).
Calculations, (or Calculations 4.0 Pro) has 5 Essential Functions: Advanced Calculator, Currency Converter, Measurement Converter, Mortgage Calculator, and Tip Calculator. Has a New way of selecting that resembles a Great Approach to a Smart Phone App, (rather than make a Calculator Clone App that resembles a Real Hand Held Calculator). However, it's method of Adding kept coming up with different answers than I expected, so it was unuseful to me.
CalcBuddy has the most Realistic Looking Graphic User Interface, (GUI), but it lacks the Plus/Minus Change Sign & the Percent Button, and a Separate Tape History would allow for bigger Text Size, and be more Readable.
My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions) has no History Tape, no Parentheses, but has the Memory +/- Retention, {I sometimes can use the Memory to replace the Parentheses), but great Color GUI. Works Great also~! Nice Design.
Office Calculator Pro, v.3.1.0 really has potential. Very Reliable. Has a History Tape, no Parentheses, but has the Memory +/- Retention but just no Pizazz~!. The Colors are so Pastel, no 3-D Effects, like My Calculator, (Stormin Dorman Productions) or CalcBuddy has. If CalcBuddy & Office Calculator Pro could combine and add the Parentheses, and put some Color on the History Tape this would be a keeper, {or if My Calculator & Office Calculator Pro could combine and add the Parentheses, and put some Color on the History Tape, a great iPhone Clone Calculator would emerge}.
Total Calculator-Paid has the 2nd Best Color History, (Samsung Galaxy S's Stock Calculator is Number One in that Department); but I don't like the Color of the Skin of the Calculator, and you have to go to a 2nd Menu to Access it everytime. It should Combine with Calculator Mem Pro or RDEV Calculator to give us the best of all worlds.
Calculator Calzo Free No Ads is a real Competitor also, it's a new way of doing things, but you get several Screens that can Copy Back & Forth with One Another, (Eliminates the need for Parentheses, and there's no Equal Sign, See it for your self ~ Search for Google Play Store and find "Calculator Calzo Free No Ads").
ClickCalc works well, and has some Color, (looks like a Junior High School Calculator).
MobiCalc (Dark) could almost be my Favorite Calculator if it had some More Color in the Display, (the Expressions and Results and Operators). However, it works Great~!
I like the way RDev Calculator adds, 35 + 3.39 + .77 + 9.01% = 42.69., {Not 39.23}, and I like the Colors and the Haptic Feel, {but the History keeps Clearing when I Exit ~ I wrote them, they'll clear that up}. RDev Calculator could move up into my Number One Spot, bumping Calculator Memory Pro when they get the History Tape worked out, (it only Erases if you Exit, so, just never Exit between Stores. For Example, 48 AA Batteries are $18.48 at one store, but 16 AA's are on sale someplace else for $15.95. Which is a Better Deal, (with the History Tape, I can make that Determination Fast).
I also have to Press Equal after the Additional then Add in the Percent on Calculator Memory Pro to get the same Result, {such as
(35 + 3.39 + .77) = 39.16 + 9.01% = 42.69}. Although the Parentheses are not necessary, unless I was adding Two Different Expressions such as:
(14 x 4) + (14 x 4.5) = 119
Calculator Memory Pro is pretty Awesome, the Display could be Bigger, and sometimes typing aLeft Parentheses... "(" ... doesn't Clear the Previous Equation, {but I wrote them and I'll bet that they'll have that Corrected Soon also}. I just have to remember to press the Clear Button before I start. Typing anything other than the "(" clears the Previous Equation. Really this is my Favorite for right now.
If "My Basis Calculator" could just have a History and put the Percent and Plus/Minus Change Sign Button on the Portrait View this would be an Ideal Smart Phone Calc, as the Haptic Feel is just right; (and as a Bonus, I made my own Colors that I think that they're going to incorporate into their DownLoad).
I want the Key Pad of (Calculator Memory Pro / RDev Calculator) meets (CalcBuddy & My Calculator) and the Tape History of Total Calculator and the Accuracy of Office Calculator Pro. Is that too much to ask? Color My World. Build this Calculator~!

Stock calculator broken or drunk?

I was making some calculations and noticed that the % key does not work right. Try a simple calculation like 100 - 30% and the calculator returns 99.7 instead of 70. What does yours do? I've got a Verizon S7.
yes because 100 minus 30 percent is 100 minus 0.30...which is 99.7. that's not how you do percent calculations. you have to do 100 times 30 percent, take the answer, and do 100 minus that. I've never once in my life done a percentage calculation the way you're trying lol
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7 using Tapatalk
The thing is, with any other calculators, including the one from the S6, S5 and other manufacturers (even Google calculator, iPhone's, Windows), it calculates the % of the value before it, ie. 100 - 5% = 100 - (5% of 100) = 95. I know that mathematically, 100 - 5% = 99.95, but the purpose of the % was to make quick calculations (accounting, taxes, etc).
Maybe related to this? http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...led-no-longer-uses-floating-point-arithmetic/
Every other calculator I've used has done the 100 - 30% = 70, so that's why I questioned the S7 calculator. Google will give the same (70) answer if you type in the above problem.
Don't you mean 100 (%) -30% = 70%. You were just subtracting 70% from 100( not a hundred percent). Or a 100 what?

UK OSNG System
Nice app just downloaded to gear s3. Any chance of adding the Ordnance Survey National Grid system at some point as in the UK its useful for cross reference to Ordnance Survey maps which divide the UK up into squares of size 500 km by 500 km. There is a overview of the system if you Google 'Ordnance Survey National Grid'.
Thanks John
One minor niggle I've noticed is that when I select MPH as the unit of speed it displays mps next to it instead of MPH.
Thanks.
I will have a lot into the "Ordnance Survey National Grid System"
There is an update underway which Supports "QTH Grid System" and "SWISS Grid System"...
Will fix the mph/mps soon.
Good News JohnGearS3, I will implement UK OSNGS in Version 1.1.0.
EDIT:*Just implemented it, so it's going to Samsung now and should be available in a few days (certification takes unfortunately some days)
Lots of more stuff to come in Version 1.1.0:
- QTH
- Ordnance Survey National Grid (UK)
- SWISSGRID*CH1903+ support
- Gauß-Krüger support (Germany only)
Version 1.1.0 is NOW available in the store with the above mentioned new features...!
Hi
Excellent app, the sort of useful app that makes the S3 worth keeping! I did start having a play trying to make my own GPS app, you have saved me the trouble!
Might be nice to be able to customise whats displayed, and to have the main bit of info (the location) across the centre of the screen where there are more pixels, possibly in a larger font, ditto the ability to change the colour - eg to have the grid ref obvious in white.
An odometer & overall height gain/loss would be nice too - but possibly on another screen accessed with a bezel twist?
I am in the UK, and can confirm that your OSGB calculations come out just fine for central Scotland.
Also, 10 figure grid ref (eg 1m resolution) is beyond the capability of GPS, your average UK hill walker will be using 6 or 8 figure grid refs (100m or 10m resolution). Ability to choose would be nice - and also free up screen space for that larger font!!
Nigel
Just curious, what do you use this app for? It does seem like a really well done app, lots of features/capabilities, but I wasn't exactly sure what the use-cases are? How are those of you who use it making use of it? How does it help you? Thanks.

Hi all
I've just released a (inexpensive 1.69$) Pro-Version of this Quick GPS Position Pro.
It is supporting a wide range of configuration possibilities:
Position:
- Decimal
- Degrees
- UTM
- MGRS
- QTH
- Ordnance Survey National Grid (UK)
- SWISSGRID*CH1903+ support
- Gauß-Krüger support (Germany only)
The Speed:
- km/h
- mph
- m/s
- knots!
Elevation/height:
- Meter
- Feet
Heading:
- Degree (not reliable in low speeds)
Vibration:
- Option to turn on or off Vibration on GPS capture or loss
Option for 'app always on' available
Option to show either the time of the last known position OR the time ago (in sec/min/hours) since then
Option to show last known position on Startup
IMPORTANT:
If you have a Bluetooth connection available to your phone and GPS on on your phone, it is using your phone's Position. Turn off Bluetooth (and GPS on on your phone) to use the phone's GPS.
Thanks for the support, I will try to implement more things soon!

Satellites in view/use and SNR would be useful...along the lines of GPS+ for Android perhaps.

Good Input, unfortunately the Tizen Web API does not allow to get these values.

I'll look into that, but not in the very near future as I am coding another app atm. (also for Gear S3)

Interesting. I was having a quick look at the Native App API with a view to porting a golf GPS app I did for Android Wear and it seem you can get all the info through :
gps_status_get_satellites_cb)(unsigned int azimuth, unsigned int elevation, unsigned int prn, int snr, bool is_active, void *user_data)
and related calls.
Ah, I see nothing similar under the Web API...but I've only just started looking at it.
Thanks! Just bought it. I'll use it a lot, because right before I'm flying my Drone, I provide the near airport control tower, with the vicinity grid where I'm going to be flying, right from my watch! Thanks!

Thats exactly what is missing.
No Chance to get that info in Web API unfortunately...
Thanks for the app, I bought the pro version.
Will be a great addition for use in rural and remote areas when needing to give coordinates for fire fighting in the bush!
I really like the app. Is there any way to make it more clean looking. It just feels a little retro right now. I would like to see crisper text maybe the ability to adjust text size.
Version 1.3.0 now available:
- Possibility to force the usage of the Gear's GPS Signal even when the Gear is connected to the phone using Bluetooth.
- Possibility to set the precision: (Best, Good, Average, Bad) ... => means less Digits
Important: The force internal GPS is still somewhat beta. It's another API approach which is not well documented.
Version 1.4.0 awaiting approval from Samsung.
New:
- GEOREF Support (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Geographic_Reference_System)
- GARS Support (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Area_Reference_System)
- Fix for a rare calculation error using MGRS
Check Some Best Samsung Gear S3 Apps and Games really amazing .
always to usable ...
