I know I know..
I have searched and searched so please dont flame me.
I love this Damage Control ROM.
Everything is perfect with the exception of voicemail.
I have no icon. The only way to check it is to call my cell number and go thru that process. Which is not convieient.
What am I missing? Everything is perfect with that exception.
I am on Sprint if that helps.
Should I update my radio? Mine is stock.
Does it need the newest radio flash to work properly?
Thanks for any help.
none of the 2.1 roms support sprints visual voicemail you need to use google voice or some other app like you mail.
and is it really that hard to to long press on 1 to check your VM?
No offense, But you must have not read or searched hard enough. But the visual voicemail doesnt work with any of the 2.1 roms on sprint.
As far as I know there arent any 2.1 sprint leaks, so no VVM until then.
And to get rid of the notification saying you have one. Just goto Settings -> Call -> Clear Voicemail Notification
I can't even get to my voicemail by dialing my number... how do I get my voicemail through GV?
yes.. you do need to search a little harder...
First..
Find the app "voice".. it has a phone on it.
then read this:

good luck.

There is not a fix until the Sprint rom comes out.
I have been using Google Voicemail. It actually works better than sprint visual voicemail. You will also get the transcription with it.

I dont use the handcent as the describe in here but its easy to figure out.
Oh yeah, if you want to use the sprint voicemail by pressing "1" you just have to change your voicemail service, Menu/settings/Call/Voicemail settings and then put your number. You will still get the text of a voicemail with the error but you will know you have voicemail

Does the tmobile visualvoicemail app not work on the Nexus One and does it cost anything to add visualvoicemail to my account?
Yes, it works, and no, it costs nothing, but you do need to call tmo and tell them to activate it on your account.
i just got off the phone with them and said that i cannot do this because they said "the app does not yet work with N1"
well, it is def working on my n1...i had 2 voice mails that came in on vvm....dont know what to tell you...
i just did a test...and you are correct....however last night when i set it up on my phone...2 old messages came in...however, i just left a voice mail, and it doesnt show up in vvm.....hmmm
I just want to report it works fine for me.
After clicking on voicemail, mine gets stuck in the "connecting to account: screen
I'm using google voice visual Voicemail. Does the t-mobile version do transcribing?
Figured it out. You have to disable Wifi when first activating visual voicemail.
GV is better, but its not pushed. You can set the fetch time as frequent as 5 min, but probably will drain the battery a little more.
How so I setup gv to get my cell vvm?
Google Voice is way better than tmobiles after u run the app on the phone login to voice.google.com and go to settings and it will tell u how to forward your voicemail to it.
Works fine for me, lol. I called them up and asked them to turn it on.
Works fine for me. Make sure you're NOT on WIFI. Tmobile visual voicemail only works over the Tmobile data connection.
Hmmm...can't seem to figure out how to setup gv to pickup my cell's voicemail.

Go to the settings in your GV page. It will explain it. Basically, set GV to Do Not Disturb, and set your phone to forward all unanswered calls to GV. It will automatically go to GV voicemail that way.
Where is the option for the n1 to forward them?

On your GV page, click Settings, and under the phones tab, next to your mobile number, you should see a link to Activate Google voicemail... Click that and pick your carrier, then it will give you the string to enter into your phone to automatically do it.
If you're on T-mobile, you just type *004*1XXXXXXXXXX#, where the X's are your phone number (preceded by a 1).
When I go into the call settings of the n1 and try to select Google voice as the voicemail carrier I get an error.

Read my post again. You don't change anything in the N1's settings! You do it all through your GV page and change the settings there, then simply enter one string of code into your phone to automatically forward all unanswered/unaswerable calls to GV.
Unexpected error occurred when trying to change forwarding settings
I was trying to set up Google Voice on CM6 to check my voicemail, but when setting it up there was an error saying that my carrier didn't allow this, or something along those lines. How do I fix this?
Thanks.
Once you sign into Google voice, you can then go into call settings and set it. If you've never used Google voice, go on the web version and activate your phone.

If you're on Sprint it just says it can't automatically set it up, you have to do the last steps, but it tells you what to do.
Ok. I set it up on the web. Now when I try calling my phone, after a couple rings it says: "please try again" and doesn't go to any voicemail. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

dial *28 attached to your google voice number, which can be found in settings, call settings, voicemail number.
Tried that again. Still same thing. Doesn't go to voicemail.

i got the same message that sprint doesnt allow google voice to take place over sprint voice mail. i clicked ok and ignored it and its changed to google voice mail system anyway.

Yeh, same here. But it doesn't go to voicemail when I call my phone.
its working fine for me on sprint i just had to do the *28 stuff
I remember when I set up my GV, the *28<number> did not work either. Came across another thread somewhere that suggested a different * number, I want to say it was something like *73 or *78? I did that, and GV works fine now, calls come in, then bounce over to GV after about 6-8 rings.
Another guy having a simmilar problem just requested a different google voice number, and did the usual setup. You could try that if your GV # isn't known to anyone anyway.

I had this problem after the most recent update. I tried everything. Finally someone told me to go into the web page of Gvoice and go to voice settings...and change your number. I changed my number, and then reset everything up and now it works perfectly. Hope that helps!
EDIT: Woops. Didn't read the posts above mine. Sorry!
I don't seem to get any sort of notification for voicemails except from visual voicemail, which doesn't work unless I'm data or wi-fi connected.
Is there any way of fixing this?
Running ICBINB.
Any idea why this might be happening and how to fix it?

uninstall visual voicemail
Nvm a bloke on the T-Mobile forums was kind enough to answer this question for me.
Seems like you just have to clear the data and cache from the visual voicemail app and you'll start getting normal notifications without data or wifi again. Oddly though if you uninstall the visual voicemail app you won't get any notifications at all.
ahhh thk you man. I was punching myself as i couldn't figure out why i wasn't getting any notifications of voicemails. I flashed a rom that didn't have the visual voicemail installed. Installing it now, and hopefully it fixes this issue!
I know this is old but I can confirm that not having Visual Voicemail was the culprit in my case of the voicemail alert not showing up on my phone. I have titanium backup installed and decided I'd uninstall non-useful/used apps that came stock with the phone. Of course, I didn't realize at the time this was the reason why my voicemail icon no longer appeared and I had 15 voicemails waiting for me :O. Anyway, good catch Yangorang.

Gmail, hit menu > more > settings > your account name > labels to notify > setup each label you want to change the notification for.
If you're using t-mobile voicemail you cannot change the sound. I dunno if you can if you're using visual voicemail.
I use Google Voice for voicemail, and that app, I can change the notification sound for.
Alright, a search didn't turn anything up, so I'm going to ask and risk wrath.
I d/l and installed GSLEON3's VVM apk thinking that since I came from an iphone, I might be able to take advantage. So, my questions are: Has anyone checked into VVM for the Inspire? Can I swap my SIM back into the iPhone to get VVM reprovisioned on the line and then use the app I have?
I should probably leave well enough alone, but running a rooted phone indicates that I don't have that kind of sense.

not much of an answer to your question, more of an alternative. I myself came from an iphone and loved the vvm. I was referred by someone here to use google voice and i love it. has a widget and emails me when i get a voicemail with the voicemail translated into text.

I forward my number to GV while I'm at the school (no service), I was unaware that I could use GV to handle ALL my voicemail needs.
as far as i know mine has been doing that. actually didnt have the app for about a week and when i reinstalled it i was informed of 2 missed voice mails. havent seen one from att yet.

Huh. Do I just replace the AT&T VM number with my GV # in the call settings, or is there some other voodoo that I need to do?

in call settings change your voicemail service to google voice. then in voicemail settings change the number to your gvoice number. mine did it all when i installed gvoice.
Well, I set this up, as I had a GV# already. My only complaint is that an incoming call rings nine times before going to voicemail. the problem is that it rings to AT&T (4-5 rings) then still has to fulfill GV's requisite 30 seconds of ringing before being picked up. Anyone know a workaround to that?!
 Nevermind. I had it set to ring my Google Chat (so I could use GrooVeIP). Unchecked all forwarding numbers and it now goes straight to the outgoing message.
I was curious if anyone else with Verizon had a problem in the stock phone app not being able to read your visual voicemail. After I get a voicemail the only time I can read it it's for a few seconds when I get the notification at the top of the phone. When you go into open the app all you can do is listen to them. I tried a bunch of different Google dialers which worked but no voicemail works with any of them.

I kind of got it working on the havoc ROM. Every now and then it says starting visual voicemail. But it's working
I am stock. Visual Voicemail has worked with my Verizon sim since day one for me.
Wth is visual voicemail? My first real smartphone
Visual Voicemail from Verizon essentially lists the voicemails you have on your account. It will typically list them in the dialer you are using. Instead of having to dial out and check your messages, you can simply click on it in the list. You can manage them that way too. One step further is having Visual Voicemail to Text which has the actual message transcribed into the feed so that you can read it versus listening to it.
I prefer using Google voice for vm you free transcripts texted to you
I think OP is talking about voicemail to text as I was having the same exact issue. It is really annoying. Especially when you have to pay $2.99/mo for the transcription.
Sent from my SM-G977U using Tapatalk
Anyone else, same thing happens to me. The notification has the transcript so I know it's "somewhere" but can't ever see it.
This is actually comprised of two underlying issues.... see my breakdown here:
