Hello,
I am trying to set my left softkey to the windows contacts app, a shortcut to this app is \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Contacts.ink .. which leads to poutlook.exe
Regardless of what I set the LSKpath to in the registry editor, I always get an error that the file can not be found.
The only time that it will work is if I set it to the manila contacts app ( Manila://people\browserlayer\?.page )
For example, I set it to " \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Contacts.ink " or ":MSCONTACTS?outres.dll,-10000" or "\Windows\poutlook.exe" even "\Windows\appbuttons\contacts.ink"
it will say: "The file 'contacts' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of the components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file"
Like I said this only happens with the Windows Contacts app, but not the Manila Contacts.. Any ideas??
I'd really like to use the windows one because it loads alot faster..
Thank you, sorry for the lengthy post
Hi,
are you on a official or cooked ROM? If it's really a matter of trusted certificates, you could try to install sdkcerts.cab on your device..hope it helps.
I am on an oem rom, what does this cerficates thing do ?
Thanks

It disables certificate warning and allows you to install\run uncertified programs.
To test for your softkey, navigate to the shortcut in explorer and make sure it opens before adding to registry.
lol, apparently shortcuts end in .LNK not .INK .. that fixed it

That's funny!
I´m trying to do the same since hours: connecting the LSK to the original WinMo contacts interface (not the HTC one). And I begin to resign...
I entered the ValueData of the according entry in the registry (HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\MANILA\HomeLSKPath) to:
\Windows\poutlook.exe contacts
or
\Windows\poutlook.exe
or
"\Windows\poutlook.exe" contacts ... and so on. But nothing happens when I press the LSK. Not even an error message.
What do I wrong? Could PLEASE somebody tell me the right command for the Value Data (respectively the right argument for poutlook.exe to start the contacts-interface)?
Thanks in advance!
p.
ps: Ok, call me stupid... or noob. Finally I found out, that the Registry is an other thing than a CommandLineInterface ;-) and that the argument "contacts" has to be written in HomeLSKArguments and not as an argument behind the program path in HomeLSKPath...
Finally it works!

Another option would be Windows\Startmenu\Contacts.LNK (or whereever the link resides)
use shaps advanced config to edit it if you want

I want to set spb contacts as default contacts (even contacts link in dialer)
i know this can be achieved by changing the "String 1" value from :MSPOUTLOOK contacts to "something" = ?????????
after going to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS
some one help what needs to be put there.
i have tried putting the following with and with and without quotes
*spbmenu*\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\menu\root\Organizer\Contacts
(which is used for running spb contacts through left soft key)
the above with quotes resulted in the following error:
The file 'contacts' cannot be opened. Either it is not sogned with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
someone suggest how to get this.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:M SCONTACTS
Change "String 1" value from :MSPOUTLOOK contacts to "\Program Files\SPB\Blah\Blah\Blah.exe".
Make sure that you add the "" on the new entry. (obviously, change blah blah blah to actual SPB concacts location)

Thank you for your reply.
SPB Contacts does not run through specific exe file
this is what they have added in the registry in order to set left key as spb contacts
*spbmenu*\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\menu\root\Organizer\Contacts
hmm, never messed around with SPB contacts, so i'm not really sure then.
Your sure that there isn't an EXE file somewhere in the program files / spb folders?
Try this
"\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\MenuLauncher.exe" -cmd:"\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Organizer\Contacts"
(if you have this installed on a storage card, please add \Strorage Card before Program Files
Hope this helps

Thanks for the sarcasm. I had actually read that post but nobody had confirmed that it works. You posted that then the OP said "Figured it out". Just left the rest of us guessing whether your solution works or whether we needed to go figure something out.
It's called testing, I went through the trouble of downloading SPB contacts and installed it on the Emulator "just" to help someone out. Forgive me for sounding sarcastic, but please if you would have read my post you would have seen I said "try this", why didn't you?

We're going off topic here and should probably take this to a private message thread. Consider from someone else's perspective what "try this" means. I read it as "Here, try this - I think it might work". You didn't say, "I've downloaded the app, experimented and here's the answer". You said the equivalent of "give this a try". Anyhoo, glad we have an answer. Kudos for your efforts. Anything else to add and we should take it 'offline'.
Not quite there. Yet.
I did try this! and it didn't work as expected, instead of contacts app got the Spb menu but with slightly wrong icons?
Deleted cmd text and it goes directly to Spb Menu, that will do till I figure out what is wrong.
Rewrote cmd text must have made a mistake before ;-) Works a treat.
Does anyone know of a solution for SPB Mobile Shell 3.0? I tried the registry modification mentioned above, but that didn't work.

Data: "\Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell\MenuLauncher.exe" -cmd:"dlg|:CONTACTS"
Default (for reference): :MSPOUTLOOK contacts

P.S. The key name has no space between the M and the S, the forum software is making that change for some reason.
Hi,
This forum helped me to decide on getting an O2 Orbit 2, so thanks for that..
I have searched for this but haven;t found a solution but forgive me if I am repeating a thread.
I am trying to find a way to add a shortcut to the Today screen that directly opens up a new SMS. At the moment I have to go to messaging>SMS>Menu>New>SMS, which seems very convulted, having come from a standard phone.
Is there any way to do this at all?

Try these. I'm not sure about a today plugin. But these cab's create a shortcut for you in \Windows called New SMS.lnk. You could always copy them to your start menu and uninstall the CAB if you dont want to lose a softkey.

Just un-install the CAB.
It might depend on the messaging software.
The shortcut should point to "\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS"

I did unistall the CAB and it didn't do anything, just removed itself from the Remove Programs bit. The shortcut is no longer there either, so I cannot check it.
Having looked at your CAB file presumably all I need to change it to calendar is find a registry editor and change the settings your CAB made back to "Calendar" and the correct shortcut?

There is a "Softkey changer" app, or a program by schaps called "Advanced Config" both of those will save on the Reg hacking.

The Solution.....
Install the attachment...
You can place a shortcut to "NEW SMS" on your left or right softkey....
PS: Next time search or follow the link on my sign....
Sorted
Hi Guys,
Thanks to both of you for your quick replies and help. I have created a working New SMS on my today screen using the last app and the o2 shortcuts program that comes with the mobile.
Knew this was the right place to come!
PS: I did search and nothing useful came up...
PPS: I also couldn't have read your link on the sign as it is posted in the area that says to not post unless you are a developer or hardcore tecchie. I am neither and so didn't go there. Thanks for the help though.
Over a year later and the information in this thread has proved invaluable for me. Thanks.
The correct solution to directly compose a new SMS with a shortcut is the following:
tmail.exe -transport "SMS" -to ""
Works great on my Tilt2. However, I do think I used the syntax above posted by DaveShaw with a prior WinMo device and it worked. However, it does not work on my Tilt2.
You can also get a lot more complicated such as:
Creating new MMS with given recipients, subject, body and attachment:
tmail.exe -transport "MMS" -to "8005551212" -cc "8001234567" -bcc "[email protected]" -subject "simple subject" -body "simple MMS body" -attach "/My Documents/test.jpg"
Anyone know how to turn these into executables since my today launcher only accepts exe's?
If You haven't got a reply to that yet... You can make a simple mortscript (like runmms.mscr) with Run (tmail.exe etc...) and then have the mortsript dummy.exe renamed to the same runmms.exe which, when executed, results in the desired action.
Hi everybody ! (my first post on this board). I'm desperately searching something I don't find, I think that developpers will be able to help me :
Where does the windows file used to write a new message locate ?
I mean, it might be a .exe and when I click on it, it opens a new sms message. It might be somewhere in the Windows files.
What's more, is it possible to open a new message like this with the phone number of one of my contacts already set in the box where to put the receiver phone's number ?
(sorry for my english, it might be awful and difficult to understand : I'm french and I'm still learning this language !)
Thank you for spending time answering me.
Oh, I forgot sthg : I use a 6.1 Windows Mobile with a HTC Diamond, but I don't think that the phone model has sthg to do there.
Up please ! Tell me if I'm not understandable...
it's not an exe for a new message. it's an exe for the mail app called tmail.exe
you can use command lines to load other things. if i'm not mistaken a new message is "tmail.exe -new'
Thanks. I could have foreseen that it's not a .exe file. I'm gonna try what you said and I give you news about it. What's more, I'd like to know if it's possible to open a new sms with a predefined receiver's phone number. Yes, I've got some favourite contacts...
Well, it seems like it doesn't work. Maybe I did something wrong, here is a screen where you can see what I did on my phone : I use the prog TF3D Detacher to assign an argument to my left softkey. But when I click on the "new" button on my homescreen, nothing happens. (not any error message too). Let's look at it :
What's wrong there ?
please try again with a space between exe and -new.
I had already tried. It doesn't work.
Shouldn't you write "tmail.exe" on the App section and not the args section?
App: tmail.exe
Args: -new
Text: New Message
Try that please
I made You a clumsy tool if You cant solve it in any other way
It can be started with arguments, like below
(Shortcuts with arguments can be created from inside soft)
(Start it with Nr preset)
\\MyTools\SMSNrPreset.exe "077 1234567"
(Start it with both Nr and MSG Preset)
\\MyTools\SMSNrPreset.exe "077 1234567" "Hello Friend"
(Start it with both Nr and MSG preset, and auto send and close app)
\\MyTools\SMSNrPreset.exe "077 1234567" "Hello Friend" 1

You are right Arlanthir, I realise how very stupid I was. (I'm just a noob). So, this works ! I just still encounter an issue : so when I assign my left softkey to this app and this argument and when I click on it, a window opens and asks me if I wanna write a new sms message, or a new e-mail, etc. Could I directly, with that kind of arguments, be able to write a new SMS message ?
As for Eurocrypt, I really thank you for your little app, it works too but it doesn't appear well on my screen, I mean it's very little. What's more, I'd like to keep the original app included in my rom if possible. But I really appreciate your contribution.

Try giving it these arguments instead:
-service "SMS" -new
OR (if that doesn't work)
-service "SMS" -to ""
Wow. I really thank you for this. The second works fine ! It's great. Now I can have a softkey assigned to my favourite contact and which permit me to write this contact a new sms, pressing only one button. I thank you again and I hope that others will benefit of this too. So the arg working is this one :
-service "SMS" -to "the phone number you want to predefine"
Note : the fisrt argument you gave me opens the received sms box (I think it's like that we say ?).

Something else now. I've already seen that, is it possible to create a file and to put it on my today screen so that when I click on it, I can write a new sms with my predefined number ? Do not think of today like a mobile desktop. Desktop has files, whereas Today has programs. You can't "put files" on the today screen, just programs.
What you did on Windows XP was probably creating a .lnk manually. That's the common "shortcut"
You can do the same thing and make it appear on WM Start Menu>Programs, and then configure your today screen application (manilla, for example) to launch that shortcut.

Not entirely sure what you want to remove or from where? What device and rom you using too?
I believe the OP wants to remove a Settings shortcut. I'm not sure how to do it with 6.1, but if you're using 6.5, then you may be able to delete the registry setting for the .cpl (may take some work figuring out which is which) to get rid of the shortcut. Look for it in hklm-security-shell-startinfo-start-settings. It may not work-you'll just have to experiment.

Im confused, if the OP wants to merely delete a shortcut from a folder in the start menu (wino 6.5) he can use total commander or file explorer and manullay delete or move to a different location?
I might be missing the point here though

It's harder with Settings shortcuts, though. They don't appear in the start menu directory most of the time. Only the Program shortcut show up there. I guess yiou can also delete the registry entry for the setting in HKLM\ControlPanel. That should work if the one in HKLM\Security\Shell... doesn't do the job.
Hi, i knew i was not really clear ! I typed it from my phone... too quick.
So, i'm using wm6.1 with a stock htc rom on my touch HD.
In the settings, connections tab i see and old Wifi router entry... if i click on it nothing happens and i have fulle removed this prog. So i would like to delete this entry.
As i said, i can't find any .cpl for this entry. I looked in the registry but no way to find it.
Hope i 'm more accurate now

I don't know if these keys exist or not in 6.1, but in 6.5 there are a bunch under HKLM\ControlPanel, and a lot of them are just numbered somewhat randomly. I have 3-8, 10-15 and 35. Then there are keys for Advanced Network, Backlight, Buttons, etc. If it's numbered, you may just need to use trial and error (back up before randomly deleting, obviously).
If the app was something you installed and then removed, it may have put an actual shortcut in the \Windows\Start Menu\Settings\Connections folder. Check to see if it exists, then delete it. I can remember having an app that did that once or twice. If you still have the cab file, you can analyze it with sk tools or winCE cab analyzer and see where it sticks the .cpl or what it's named.

Well, back up the HKLM\ControlPanel values, then start deleting the keys one at a time (you may need to soft reset after each one). When you find the key that gets rid of the shortcut you don't want, then restore all the original keys, and delete the annoying one again. It may not work, though-I'm just guessing that removing the keys will remove the shortcuts.

Hi all,
I previously had a Hermes where there was a little tool to change the soft-keys at the coners of the screen to to applications of your choice.
Either I did not look to find the tool in the Raphael or it does not exist in the HTC standard ROM. Is there any tool to use for changein the soft-keys?
Thanks for support.

This is what I, found it in the diamond forum.
just change hklm\software\htc\manila its not hard. homelsk options for the left softkey and homersk for the right. path and text.
Hi Jack,
thanks, the solution works , even with touch-flo. I could put the calendar as soft key. Do You know the name of the file where the contats are stored?

dont trust me too hard on this im doing it from memory, but... set your path to "\Windows\poutlook.exe" and your argument to "contacts". without quotes on both of course.
Hi Jack,
thanks, I will try this tomorrow, today I forgot my mobile in the office :-(.
Result: I tried it and nothing happened, no contacts shoowing up or any error-msg. So it should be an other file I guess. Do you have any idea?
Best regards
Rolf
i was wondering why that wouldnt work and i tried it on mine and it does. you can check your spelling for any typos or whatever but it should work. no quotes, no caps on contacts, \'s not /'s. hope you can get it working.
If you install the cab i posted you dont need to edit the registry, just select the app you want the link on the soft key to be and click save.
alot of people like to do it themselvs or dont like extra apps. ill check it out and see what it does later.
Hi,
so I tried again the manila cab that was postet above. Well, it works fine, I just cannot find the "contacts" in there which I like to set as left soft-key. The "calendar" setting works fine either as direct setting in the HKLM or using the cab.
I also tried again to start the poutlook.exe directly out of the file-explorer and in contrast to the start of the calendar, nothing happened. So it must be any other file to start ???
Also I tried to link the "kontakte" (a small link-file) directly in HKLM, but got an error-msg telling me that the file does not have the required security-attributes or whatsoever.
I will keep on searching but happy for any adviece.
Berst Regards
Rolf
