Hello may be dumb question but I un rooted a g1 to standard 1.6 drc83 and just got new update. How do I get the link from the device for the file? I would like to try and get the file directly and haven't seen a direct download else where.

Are you speaking of the update with the new "call features"? If so, it's already been ripped.
Download link for signed original known? Really looking for full original zip to tinker with.
Wrong section.
I would think pulling ota link from phone software or extracting from cache would be development.
Hello all again looking over a few logs that I was able to pull from my device. Does anyone know where it would have the link or info on where to download the file direct from google or how I can get the official dmd64 update. I know we have the one for the mt3g but trying to get for g1. I still though have not been able to find where is these logs I can extrapolate the link from. Any ideas would be helpful

All The OTA Updates!!

Am I missing something?
I've tried restoring my G1 back to its unrooted status to no avail. I've downloaded the Cupcake OTAs that Elijah and Whitemonster have linked, but every time I enter Recovery Mode the firmware won't install. The zipped file should be the only thing on the microSD card, right? What am I doing wrong?

To unroot, you have to put the special .nbh file into the sd card and go into the bootloader, not the recovery mode. "ota" files will not flash/unroot your phone.
Check the stickies for how to unroot, the file is linked there.
Thanks, nxt. I guess I didn't look hard enough for the unroot sticky.

Hi, if you want to go down the rooting path to install non-official custom ROMs
the best place for you to start would be here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567610
later on, if you feel you want one of the 'bigger' ROMs be sure to read and understand this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625886
how can i get a legit update without rooting my device?
I remember when I first got my G1 on T-mobile here in the UK which was still on 1.0 I did something to force the phone to check for an OTA update because I didn't want to wait around ages for it to find Donut.
I can't remember what I pressed though nor have I had any success with google. There is a way to force an OTA update check on old versions though, I'm sure someone here will remember it...
cheers, this is what im looking for.
on my about phone it has no system update. but if someone knows this, this would be great help
Is this at all helpful?

You should be able to use these without root.

yeah I remember I had no system update section either when I was trying to force an update, the option appears after 1.5 I believe.
I've been trying to find what ever I did to force an update check but it's been a while now and anything I can find on google refers to more recent updates.
What network is the phone on by the way? I'm not even sure any one other than T-mobile pushes out updates for the g1
I found this over on phandroid.com
You can ask your G1 phone to do a force “Check for Update”
You need AnyCut app from the market.
Create a shorcut on the desktop using AnyCut
- Select Activity
- Select Device Info
On the desktop select the new shortcut and scroll to the bottom. There is a button that will check for an update
Hope it helps

I knew someone would know here, this is what I did on my 1.0 G1 to force an OTA update
it said checkin success, what happens now should it jsut start downloading??
sorry to be a pain
You can use this file if you don't want to wait:
android.clients.google.com/updates/kila_eu/signed-kila_eu-ota-15632.a5e2aac2.zip
This is the euro full update to 1.6.
Copy to your sdcard, rename to update.zip and flash in recovery.
that link isnt working, nothing seems to working to update my phone.
link worked fine for me, don't try to download it on your phone (if you are), use a computer
Is this a new G1 bought directly from t-mobile, or did you buy it from someone?
i bought if from someone, starting to think this was a bad idea tho
Are you sure it hasn't been customised already?
Start the phone with [camera]+[power] then [home]+[power] and post what you see.
Also.. do you have a data plan?
i get unlimited internet on my device.
on and pwer:
drea110 32b
hboot-0.95.0000
cpld-4
radio-1.22.12.29
when i press power, home it says
e:// cant open/cache.....
maybe thats y the sd updates arent working
omg thank you so much everyone, it finally managed to upgrade via that link you gave thank you so much love you.
ohhh try searching google for "any cut force update" or something like that. I used anycut to check for updates. It's how I updated to cupcake before I rooted =)
Well I switched to S-OFF to get a new splash screen and now I can no longer install OTA updates for my Hero. I get a signature failure every time I try to install. Does anyone know how to switch this back on? I didn't realize this would kill the ability to do updates as the forums I have read before switching didn't have any mention of it.
Sorry if this has been previously posted and I missed it in the forums.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The signature failure isn't from s-off it's from the custom recovery. What you need to do is to resign the zip.

Just an added note, as far as I know, you can't switch back to S-ON on this
device, at least, not at the moment.. If they get S-ON to work on these phones,
good, but if not, I'm not overly concerned.

Not sure I'm understanding the question. But, if he means receiving updates directly from Sprint then they don't come as zip files. So, how would signing anything help him?
Not sure why you would want to download something from Sprint directly anyway. Whenever an update comes out, they're usually packaged and ready for you to flash via custom recovery by the end of the day if not sooner.

The ota (over the air) updates that sprint pushes out and you download are stored in an update zip in /cache then when you choose to install them they are flashed through the stock recovery... but if you don't have the stock recovery you will have to pull the update from your device resign it and then flash it through custom recovery. Also they won't work on anything but a stock or close to stock rom because of the checks it does in the update scripts and most of everything inside is .p files (patch).
I should know because I took the second to last sprint update rooted it and posted it on here. You can actually test this theory by running the ruu rooting it and then when you get an update download it but don't install it right away. You'll find it in /cache (I believe forgotten exactly) or just take my word for it.
If you do do it like that I suggest the original 2.1 ruu just because you'll get your original radio back in the process

Good information to know. Thanks Asadullah.
Hi, I keep getting this message when trying to run the oneclickroot:
rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin is missing... make sure you extracted the zip archive correctly...
I have searched all over the internet and found very little regarding this issue. Someone posted a link on one of the forums here that did not work because windows did not recognize it.
Does anyone know how to fix this so that I can install a custom ROM on my Epic?
Thanks so much.

Oh and are you familiar with Odin?
I'm getting the same error. Not sure what to do.
i believe thats what actually roots the phone its an android only exploit.
check if some antivirus program is deleting it
Ive looked for a Odin flashable VRBLI5 Radio only and havent found one. Is there or will someone make the radion Odin flashable?? I looked over at rootzwiki and he only has the recovery flashable version only.
I thought someone was working on this in one of the threads with the new leak... However I was unable to locate it... I also tried to download the original leaked .TAR file to try and extract it for you however that download is taking FOREVER....
