I have decided to learn how to port Hero roms to our Magic 32a, my process of learning have just begun, so be easy on me
I want to thank arctu for motivation and sanpei for his kernel and guidance.

In my process of learning i am playing and testing different roms while trying get them to work. Trying alone take some time, so i decided to share my testing with all.
Later when i've learn something and get everything to work, we can join forces and do a wiki... how to port things. Would be great I have still many things to learn tho...

Meanwhile we are waiting for nprussel to take the theme away, i have done a DeThemed version my self.
So it is an UNOFFICIAL version.
changelog:Thrown away the theme, changed lockscreen to a black one, changed bootscreen to bios
added Astro, Mount USB, Market Enabler, SIM Toggle, Quick System Info...
Fixed annoying loud noise, annoying glowing ball on every notification, now it works like it should.
i am tweaking the auto free mem settings... or auto kill or what name it has...testing right now...
Changed maps to BrutMaps, updated the apn list...
maybe something minor which i forgot now...
a workaround for the ringingtone geting quiet after 2 ringtones, you have to turn off "quiet ring on pickup"...
There will be a Themed version of v04 also...

I did not installed yet. It's still downloading. Now is 68%. Later I will feedback.
Installed successfully. Cool starting screen.
1. No Chinese input mehod. Can you add HTC_Cime.apk. (or robcik, can you teach me how to modify a ROM. I just added the HTC_Cime in the /system/app and signed, but after installed, it didn't work. )
2. camera works OK. camerarecorder still doesn't work.
3. MT is OK. Others are not tested.

You got to use hero recovery, i use RA hero recovery 1.6.2, it dont work with cursor recovery for magic.
you installed it on this did you not?

On my 32A Tim, I can install it, it's worked well. If the above problems fixed, it'll be perfect.
Sorry, there is another bug like other 2.1 ROMs, I just find. When I locked the phone, it will sleep death. I have to push out my battery, then restart the phone.
Been using for the last hour or so. So far everything works as far i can tell. my main concern is the battery life. Also i dont think usb mounting works but im not sure i will have to get back to you.

Maybe I didn't install taskkiller, apps are still running in the background. I guess that.
I met the sleep death problem in other 2.1 ROMs too.
Anyway, your ROM is really a good one.
hey ive been working at porting hero roms a bit too
successfully got both neodroid eris 2.1 and another one running but i noticed video playback is hampered as i am using magic port
i am looking maybe for a way to rip sanpei kernel out of his rom and insert it into a hero rom and also add the wlan.ko and other necessary port files as well - I have noticed that the video playback seems to be kernel related?
can you maybe help me a bit through pm with what you did to port? I am fairly new to - maybe we can port good version of hero roms as they seem to have MANY devs doing 2.1 compared to both 32b and 32a dev respectfully
Lock Screen
I was wondering if it is possible to use the other lock screen like in super hero. You just have to remove the htc one and it goes back to the default 2.1 lock screen?
Yes this is possible same deal this rom is almost perfect i think the only thing left is the camera
Guys, dont forget that i am NOT making this rom, i am just make it possible to test it on our Magic 32a... AND i am still a begginer at learning stage

Do you think it is possible to fix camera issue? I don't now anything about this stuff. And yes it is not your rom but i appreciate you porting them to test .

hehe, of course i am gonna try to fix everything... but i cant learn everything over a night eventualy when i know more and more there will be less and less errors... Time issue is other problem haha

LOCKSCREEN Wallpapers
To change lockscreen wallpaper, first download and unzip the file somewhere then cd to it and use this command:

Note that we are replacing a file so the destination filename must always be htc_wallpaper_01_lockscreen.jpg
If you want to use your own lockscreen wallpaper, then use an image editing software (like GIMP) to resize the image to 455x320 pixels. Then push it using the command shown above.

I can not install this ROM
I installed JacXHero 1.2 before but I can not install this ROM,
I wiped my data before install new ROM but my device did not boot after apply update.zip
Do you have a 32A device? Is it MT3G? Sorry I have an HTC Magic 32A device and cannot test MT3G devices.
p.s. Notification LED on twitter is working for me, but not when charging or missed call etc. But still that's sth right?
H and E icons working?
Are Hsdpa/Edge icons present in this rom? Previous one only shows G/3G in I remember.
I think not, though I can't really test because I don't have HSDPA in my area. But its just an icon! If you know where it is located then you can push it via adb I suppose...
what is the difference between this jacheroski and jacheroski 2.7.4r2.. is that just someone elses additions to jachero1.2
i installed this on my mytouch and everything seems to work fine, except for bluetooth and for some reason the home screen takes for ever to load.... any one know why this happens? or what's the BEST hero rom for a 32A mytouch?

Try Drizzy's no name Hero v3 (ported by bcrook). Here you are!!
That's the best hero rom for me atm. I bet most optimization in this rom is done in the kernel which we can't use if HTC doesn't release the source...
I just found one that all works for me (32A)

Are we missing out on anything since ports are done by replacing the kernel with rogers version?

Please include that lockscreen in your next port...btw, i believe its not just some jpegs, the curve box seem integrated with the lockscreen app, coz if your change wallpaper of lockscreen, the curve box (with carrie and date in it) will still exist...
i just hope you find a way to push it..

1.4? But it hasn't been ported yet! Did you flash the dream version? Flash the version I posted here and be sure to wait quite a while (at least 3 mins) on first boot!

Yes i think there are some files that control the lock/unlock images of the lockscreen but not the wallpaper.

i tried eugene's newest and it pairs, but sound when on phone. you have any luck on yours or with anyone else's

wow! this is amazing..no partitions just set up and go..soooo fast no loading screeens although i did get fc at setup with heroled ...but other than that perfect

Arrghh! Same problem here with a MyTouch 3G and a BlueAnt Z9 bluetooth earpiece. It pairs and connects, but there's no sound when you make a phone call :S
same here with the fc on boot with the hero led other than that everything is cool, oh and the tethering gives me a wrong kernel version error or something but after your push ignore then click on the tethering icon it works anyways. but at last a build that doesnt require any partitions well unless you have a g1 but apps to sd is just about a requirement for G1's with root anyways, and btw even though its not required for the mytouch apps2sd does still work

The same thing happened to me at first. Just tap on Skip for all the login stuff. Once you are at the home screen, shut down the device and turn it back on. The nagging MAGIC entry thing will be gone
want to try this one but I got a 32A. Is there a 32A port? I tried CM 32A port, it boots up but got a FC and couldn't do anything even poweroff.

Which kernel are you using for this ROM? If its from source you can apply the TigerTael patch or EBI1 config option, if the code has been merged. If you are using cyanogen's kernel, it is trivial to port this.
I'm using the standard Google ion ota boot.img?

Maybe the best way is to use a ebi1 port package from here and just change the ramdisk to match your ROM. That way the wlan.ko and other 32a required files are already set. People could just apply the 32a/ebi1 package after flashing the 32B version, just like we do for CM ROMs. Plus it would work for Rogers Dreams, as well.

Thanks I didn't notice that bit on cheesebarons site,will look into it I use that sire quite a bit
I decided to make a ROM to fit my needs.
So I took eugene373, Manup456 and JACs eclair ROM files for the base and added some fixes + removed some stuff..
The rom is now pretty stable and fast, but stilll a experimental build because some drivers are missing in Eclair!
I think the battery power should be good to very good, so you can give it a try if you want something new on your android phone..

No. Do not attempt to flash an SPL on a rooted original myTouch 3G. You have nothing to gain and everything to lose.

My Touch is ready to go with its default stuff
Just flash Amon_RA Latest Recovery to your phone.
If you get problems try 1.33.2005 or higher Eng SPL.
Also I attached you the original Vodafone SPL from the magic.
Its 1.33.2004 SHIP S-ON G, but I never had any problems with it so far..
I changed between a lot of SPLs and it was the "best" for my Vodafone branded Magic
Will provide mirrors in the next days, I am on the mobile web out of the city and the upload is very slow atm.
Maybe someone is able to load it somewhere else up?

I did w/ my sisters rom in 10 min root/flash from Cupcake/1.5 that is, but i'm no noob had the g1 a week before it came out..so if you don't know how to, then yeah, you usually don't need to and shouldn't especially if you don't know how to look up a radio and spl versions in fastboot mode. you flash the wrong spl/radio combo then..hello paperweight. I just did it for the tiny extra room just encase the 2.1 roms get big and if they put sense on the mytouch v2 w/ 32a boards that are coming out and if somebody ports it to the 32b boards i can give it to her and see if she likes sense/rosie. but you do in some rare cases have things to gain...and if you can't turn it on...neither can the warranty ppl (horrible but true) or can they read the bad spl from the chips? would they? but all this does void your warranty so i wouldn't risk sending it in and have to pay the full price for it..just get a new "DROID!" not moto tho..unless it's the motoroi! weeee, i talk to much...long winded i am

Flashed your rom and I have to say Impressed first rom to get past the setup screen in less time then it takes to actually load from dead start. I like how there is very little added and what is can be removed. Thanks So far pushing its limits and very pleased with the speed.
I get a kind of a boot loop with this ROM. It goes past the bootanimation, but when I touch the Android, it freezes, then goes back to the bootanimation.

I have not compiled any kernel. I've used the kernel from yoshi rom because it worked well with my compiled system and radio/spl.
I'm new to the Magic's XDA room because I have bought this phone a couple of days ago. If you can mention to me who thanks for the kernel I will append their names to the first post, I don't want to stole anyone's work.
Also for the question, I don't know the answer.. I'm new to this phone and it's not my main phone so I don't use it so much.. If you can do some experiments I think it will be useful also for others.

Ok. I will test those two and after that i'll give feedback. Does it feel faster or stabler than Ginger Yoshi in your opinion? I know that the a creator always think that his work is the best, but i can't help it to ask anyway.
I've used ginger yoshi for about 5 minutes just to see if angry birds runs also on others rom so slow...

I can confirm that both farmatito's and pershoot's kernel works with this ROM. The ROM boots ok, but it seems a little slow. Not slower than Yoshi, but slower than carz's CM7. I don't think yoshi is a good ROM for you to look at in order to enhance your ROM. I don't know why, and it could be something that i do wrong, but Ginger Yoshi is the slowest GB ROM for Magic right now.
About your ROM itself. I think multi-language should be a priority in your list. I get some FC here and there, but nothing unbearable. In short, it's a pretty good ROM for a first try! Although i think it still needs some work on it.
I'll keep an eye on this thread. Keep up with this work. It as potential. Good luck!

One issue though...........I have the same radio and spl as the creator but whenever I try and use live wallpapers they all force close, except maps?!?
It may be the kernel but I thought I would ask if any one has has similar issues.
I will take a look to live wallpaper crashes today, maybe I can find what is wrong.

I get it work. Go to the Settings menu, Cyanogenmod, Performance, and put the VM size to 24 mb, and also turn on the JIT Compiler.
We were running out of memory with the bitmap of the wallpaper. In the next release I'll try to hard code this options into the rom.
Also if you're not using live wallpaper that things will help with performance.
Now with the cpu at 614 mhz I'm doing 360-370 on Quadrant

I have SLP 1.33.2010 and Radio 3.22.20.17 MAGIC 32A TIM
This Rom is faster and faster, finally my phone is a rocket ;-) !! Tips from Jordan (put the VM size to 24 mb, and also turn on the JIT Compiler) are perfect.
I use also AUTOKILER whit setting "STRICT 60,70,80" and my battery now at 8:00PM has 60% charg!!! WOW ...
Best rom in shappire section in this moment!!!
It seems everything work, but I'll have to test the rom for at least 5 or 6 days...
