desire rom htc clock widget question - Nexus One Themes and Apps

So I'm running the desire Rom, and I chose the clock widget. I went with the standard one with the flip clock and weather. When you choose it, it asks for location, and then a check box for 'full screen animation'. I checked it, and when it gets put on Tue home screen it makes a nice animation of clouds, or sun rays, etc . My question is, how do you make it do that again? I've never seen it happen since I first put the widget there. It doesn't happen when you swipe to it and it refreshed.

It happens everytime you unlock your device.

Ah, ok. Thanks. I didn't notice because I have it on the first screen to the left oh the main screen.

I wonder why doesn't have the fliping animation.

That was a total shocker to me as well. The flipping made it cool....
I wonder if it will return in a later release

Possible fix for HTC Weather/clock widget

I don't know if it is just the Sprint Hero, but the big clock widget that has the weather does not update the time. I am using DC 2.05 and have had the same problem running the stock ROM as well.
I have the transparent 2.1 flan style lockscreen so I can see the homescreen without having to unlock the phone, and unfortunetly their are 3 clocks, the lockscreen one, the one in the upper right and the HTC clock widget is in the middle and always off.
I will give an example (It is not because of the 2.1 lockscreen either, I and many others have had this problem who are using the HTC lock screen)
If i turn my phone on at 6:00 and send a text, and then turn it off,
Then check an email at 6:20, when I turn my phone on I see the transparent lockscreen so I can see the lockscreen time, and the upper right time is 6:20, but the HTC clock widget is at 6:00, becasue that is the last time I turned my phone on. Then after 2-3 seconds after I unlock my phone, the HTC clock will update to 6:20.
I know this seems reiculous but the widget takes up half of the home screen and doesn't even work right.
I have never developed an app or anything, but think I know the problem
I used Beautiful widgets and the main clock that shows the time and the weather always had the right time.
The problem must be that the HTC clock does not have access to, or is not getting the time from the system when the device is off, but rather when the phone is on, it updates it. The beautiful widgets app is, and the minute will change the same time the clock in the upper right does. However, with the HTC clock, when I am on my home screen sometimes it takes 5-6 seconds to change, even when the phone is on. So if my phone was on at 6:00 and I went on the internet for 5 minutes and click home, the HTC clock would stay on 6:00 lag for 5-6 seconds and then change to 6:05. It defeats the purpose of having a big clock..
I have searched and cannot find a fix for this, also I have had this problem when running the stock rom, and have had 2 heros, both having the problem,
any ideas, or way to fix the widget to get system time access?
hum. ive never had a problem with the stock htc clock like that. and ive ran pretty much all the roms out there.. currently on fresh 2.0d...

What he is saying is the Weather and Clock widget under the Htc Clock widget does not update the time unless you are on the home page. You put your phone to sleep, you open an app, make a call, etc and once you go back to the home screen it takes a couple of seconds to update it. Yeah, I have this issue to.
I think the reason that it doesn't update until you are on that particular home screen is to save battery life. Anything constantly checking something will reduce battery time. Might not be alot, but I think that is why.

The widgets don't update while the phone is asleep to conserve battery (as was just mentioned). You only see this behavior because you have a modified lockscreen that makes it transparent. That's not how it is was designed by HTC. The extra few seconds to unlock the phone and actually see your home screen would be the delay it usually needs to update the clock.
That or HTC could make all of their widgets continue to use cpu cycles when you aren't looking at them.

Battery Widget -> Show what is using it up

I had a battery widget on my screen, which I swear was on the phone before I downloaded any apps. Maybe I am going nuts. It did not show %, but it showed bars.
The nice thing was when I clicked on it it would open up a page showing what apps were using the battery.
I pulled it off the screen, and now cannot find it to put back.
Anyone see anything like that?
It was on the phone when you got it? I just got it yesterday and never saw anything like that....hmmm...
Are you sure you're thinking of a widget rather than going to Settings, About Phone, then Battery Use?
Well, since posting a few min ago, I found that. But I did have an icon on my desktop that I could call that very thing with. But darned if I know how I got it there.
I've been messing with this thing so much, I'm going brain dead.I was having problems a bit ago remembering which app I used to check on available memory. But finally remembered it was Advanced Task Killer.
Long press on the desktop like you were going to add a widget or wallpaper. Choose Shortcut instead, then scroll down to Settings, click it, then choose Battery Use.
That'll put a nice little battery/magnifying glass icon on your desktop, click it and it does what it says, just like you'd went into Settings/About Phone/Battery Use.
And notice some of the other quick and handy shortcuts you can make, besides the wealth of those found in the Settings part.
Well, I am pretty sure that is how I got it there. It has disappeared from the list, so I can no longer install it.
So I guess the real question is what determines what is in that list.
Hmmm....I wonder if that is a Samsung widget, which won't work with Launcher Pro.
....
Nope, I don't see it no matter which launcher I select. I wonder what else is missing.

i have it working with launcher pro
I'm a dork today. I found it. And if I had slowed down and read Croak's reply and paid attention he had the answer.
What I was skipping was selecting Settings after going into the shortcuts. I was thinking that was the settings ICON to open general settings.

my few nitpicks

I love this phone without a doubt coming from the OG Droid, although using my friend's incredible pretty often.
#1 the led notification is tiny. unless youre looking at it head on you wont know if you have one.
#2 the vibration is very weak, i hope there is a way to improve this
#3 the brightness. on my old phone on the power widgets toggle, you would tap it and it would go from minimum, medium, max, off, etc. On this one you either set it on auto or have to adjust the slider constantly. I have to think you can get more battery hours out of this if it was like the old display.
#4 i dont like that there isn't a camera button. I don't care who you are, this is more like iphone using the touch screen to take a pic and youre more likely to move the screen while hitting it.
Other than that, i love this phone. it's nitro fast even compared to the 1ghtz overclocked droid, I can't wait to root and overclock and put on CM7
Why don't you use your fancy new Thunderbolt to call someone that cares.

i've noticed 1 and 2, i dont feel the vibration in my pocket and i thought it was my case. after taking it off it make no difference. my og droid had an awesome led and i customized it like crazy.
I agree that the LED notification can be pretty hard to see sometimes. But the brightness toggle widget does indeed change the brightness to min, med, max.

If you take the brightness out of "Auto" the brightness widget allows you to select threed different modes.
right, if its not in auto mode, it brings up the slider. I can't just tap 2-3 times on the icon to change different levels.

I just doubled checked mine to be 100% sure.... No matter the setting (auto or not) I can tap the widget and it will change through the modes like normal.
If your's is not doing this then something is up I would say.
That is VERY wierd because I works on mine. All if have to do is tap the widget and it gets changes modes. Are you using the Official HTC brightness widget? Also are you using the "solo" brightness widget? (The one with just the brightness, not the power bar widget)
okay, what exactly is the name of the widget youre doing this with so were on the same page?

It's called "Screen Brightness" located under the "Settings" category under Widgets. I'm guessing you're using the Power Dashboard widget which displays all of different settings on one bar.
you are correct, mine is listed as power widget. I don't see the one you're referring to

You're running Sense right? No ADW or LauncherPro correct? I'm starting to think he's running a launcher and using the default widgets that come with Android.

[Q] Clock App With Live Tile Support?

Hello All,
I have been searching for a minute now and have had Zero luck. Is there an app that will give me just a clock on the main screen? Like a clock app that actually supports live tiles and will show me the time? Trying to find the time on windows phone 7 has proven to be a pain in the rear unless I wait for the phone to lock itself. Today's date, and a simple clock are really all I am looking for but it seems no one has created an app with this basic functionality...
The only way to do a clock live tile would be to send updates once a second/minute, which would be kind of ridiculous. If someone is going to do this, it'll need to be Microsoft.
Isn't the time always displayed at the top of the homescreen?
Or once a minute? Is there any other way to make the thing show date and time outside of the lock screen? Still new to this thing, but besides a few drawbacks (no date/time screen, sms messages do not auto retry after failing to send) I like it. Just figured some of my issues would have already been solved at this point in the life cycle.
Edit:

Indeed it is and until you mentioned it I had never noticed it. It's really tiny, but sure enough it's up there. Now I feel silly
If you want to see the date, I guess you can just pin your calendar to the home screen for now.
They should realy make something like this:
(of course the time doesn't correspond to the time in the top right corner^^)
I don't understand why you'd want this for a couple of reasons:
1. At the home screen, tapping the top of the screen brings up the time
2. The Calendar app shows the date
3. If I ever want to see what time it is, I just unlock my phone and look at the lock screen. It's unnecessary to go into the home screen. If the top time is too small for you, just lock and unlock your device quickly.

[Q] Several Sensation Questions

I've had mine for nearly a week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it and finally ditch the Grand Old HD2. I've managed to get many of my questions about this phone answered here over the last few days, but here are some I'm not convinced I know the answer to...perhaps someone can help:
- Can I adjust the number of rows/columns on Sense screens? I'd been using HyperDroid CM7 on my HD2 for a while, and seeing, like, 4 icons on the entire Sensation screen is corny/cartoony. I'd like to get more stuff squashed onto each screen.
- Can I add/remove Sense home screens? There are 7. I'd like to change that.
- Can I change or add more buttons to bottom or home screen? I see, from left to right, the apps, phone, and personalize buttons. I'd love to dump the personalize button, shrink the phone button, and add several more.
- I'm pretty sure many of the things I want to do are not possible with just an out of the box T-Mo Sensation and HTC Sense...so, are there apps that lets me do any of these things?
- Can I adjust when backlight goes off? I seem to be able to only adjust the amount of time the entire screen stays on.
- Auto-brightness is wacky. I'll just be sitting somewhere, in what seems like perfectly level/stable lighting conditions, and the screen just arbitrarily dims and brightens every few seconds.
- How do I get rid of that irritating page-by-page scrolling of apps list? I'd like one long, smooth-scrolling list. And is there a way to have a favorite apps list, other than placing them on the home screens?
- How do I turn off the dial/key press sounds when I'm dialing a phone number?
- I get a lot of static when I use my BT headset with the T-Mobile silicone case on the phone. If I take the phone out of the case, the call is much clearer. Any way to otherwise compensate (so I don't have to take the case off all the time)?
Thanks.
The quick answer to every question right now is no. The slightly longer answer is yes, but you will need to install a custom launcher: Launcher Pro or ADW come to mind first. They won't get rid of Sense and will actually use up more memory, but what you want will be accomplished. The really long answer is no, but soon. Most of what you want to change are things built into the HTC Rom. S-Off is supposedly coming soon. The great devs of the forum are hard at work. Once they do that, the bootloader will be unlocked, the cooks will do what they do, and we will begin to see custom Roms. Then you will have your removed bloatware, customizable anything, different launchers, stock-Sense lite-Sense full-CM7-MIUI-or anything else you can think of Roms.
The day is coming. We will have a true superphone any day now.
Best wishes.

for the backlight off thing go to settings->brightness and uncheck the box next to automatic brightness and adjust the slider to your liking
To take off the sound while dialing go to settings->sound and uncheck the box that says Audible touch tones
hope it helps
Thanks for the sound setting info. I know about the automatic brightness setting. Turning off doesn't fix the fact that automatic brightness doesn't seem to work.
Any idea how to, when using the Mail application, to move to Next or Previous messages? No swiping motion I'm trying is working, and the best I can find is Settings and then the arrow keys. It'd be much easier if there was a button or swipe right on the message screen itself.

Actually, I believe the internal portion of the antenna is different too. The Tmo Sensation have 4 internal contacts areas for antenna and the international unlock one has 3. People were claiming that to be the problem with the death grip reception issue. Idk if the newer unlocked versions have changed yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have moved across from the HD2 also and i find it irritating that i cant set both backlight off and power off as separate items.
Had the HD2 set that the backlight went off quite quickly to save juice, but it was set to not power down for one minute after that so just a quick screen press would bring it back up.
the Sensation powers down exactly 8 seconds after the screen dims and there is no setting to change that period !!

I don't have to reboot too often, but when I do, I usually get a "Set current time" pop-up message stating "Unable to detect your current time zone. Tab below to select a city." Then is has a menu with various time zones in it. I select Eastern Time, and click Done. But why does this keep coming up?
All the threads I see here and elsewhere on the internet (yes, I cheat on XDA) seem to assume the network is not providing the time information, so we need to uncheck the automatic time update setting. But why should I have to uncheck this? And how will that impact me when I go to another time zone?
Thanks.

you can somehow:
i used the "more icons widget" it lets you add 4 icons in a place of usually one.
So the 3x1 icons would consist of 11 small icons (+ 1 settings button) available from 1x2 to 1x4 and inverse. Works great on this screen
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.reeyees.moreiconswidget
it costs a bit, but is worth it!
