I finally figured it out!!! This is what you do to make opera mini your default browser for links, sense ui, etc...:
Edit the following registry keys..This is assuming you installed Opera mini on the device memory not storage card.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER
"0"=Opera Mini 5
"1"="\Program Files\Opera Mini 5\OperaMini5-WM-armv4i.exe\"
HKCR\http\Shell\Open\Command\Default and I did it for backup to:
"\Program Files\Opera Mini 5\OperaMini5-WM-armv4i.exe" "%1"
P.S. the %1 is what passes the link on to Opera. Without it Opera will just open to your home page.
After you do this, do a soft reset and it should work..it works for me...
Let me know if you have any issues.........
hey thanks for the post!
i copied all of your settings exactly over, and it did make opera mini 5 my default browser...
however - it is just loading my speed dial when i click a link, and i included the %1.
any ideas??
EDIT:
I tried it without the %1 also with the same results. I put the %1 back in, and same thing.

Make sure you include all the " (quote marks) and the spaces in the string exactly as stated...double check that....

I double checked and its exactly as you typed.
Also, just to see, i removed the space between "\Program Files\Opera Mini 5\OperaMini5-WM-armv4i.exe" and "%1", and it made opera mobile my default browser again. So i put the space back in, soft reset, and opera mini now default again.
I was looking for this too. Anybody know how to disable the "Are you sure you want to exit" dialog box when you want to exit? I know you can do it from the top X, but I usually am always closing stuff by the bottom menu option.
I can't get the register tweaks done! It's the first time I'm doing this, so if someone can give me a little bit of help, it would be great. The problem is that I don't know if I have to delete the 'old' settings, for example in HKLM : 0= Opera and 1= OperaL.exe
hopefully someone can help me...

You dont have to delete the old ones, just overwrite them, for example:
replace 0=Opera with 0=Opera Mini 5
When I don't use the quote marks (0=Opera, 1=''\Progr....etc), then it gives a warning like: ': DEFBROWSER' can not be opened.
When I do use them (''0''= Opera, ''1''=''\Program...etc), then it gives a warning like 'Program' can not be opened.
is there maybe a problem because my phone uses Dutch as language? should I use 'Programmabestanden' in stead of 'Program Files'?
If it is on the storage card?
What would the path be if it is on the storage card...?
Storage Card\Program Files\Opera Mini 5\OperaMini5-WM-armv4i.exe" "%1"
Sorry for the noob question. But just wanted to double check.

Same problem here
I have the same problem and havent found and sollution.
any news ?
My solution.
I use JZBrowser. Works good. You can research it here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382043
Try this alternative registry key
Under \HKML\SOFTWARE\Opera, add a new registry folder:
"\Opera Mini\Backup\EFBROWSER".
Under this new folder, create 4 keys:
0 (registry type: REG_SZ): Opera Browser
1 (registry type: REG_SZ): "\Windows\OperaL.exe"
2 (registry type: Decimal): 1
3 (registry type: Decimal): 0
Enjoy!

I have install SIPChange and it works ok but when i restart i get an strange message, something about an certificate and the program can't be opened. Does anyone now how to fix this because i really would like to get this to work.
You must go on windows / startup with total Commander (I use this one) or similar, select the link to sipchange property and edit the address of the link, check that the link is right to sipchange. In italy change program files with programs.
Council also put a high value of delay, to launch the program behind when and not slow it down.

Anyway, can i do it in a way so SipChange keeps his settings?

Indeed, i do. Gonna see what 0.20 will do. Thank you.
Edit,
On the site the most recent version is 0.13, the one i use. Where did you find 0.20?
How do I change the default browser in the homescreen link. Currently it is linked to Opera and I would like the flexibility to change at will.
PS googled for info but couldnt find any.
THANK YOU
you can set the browser you want in \Application Data\Manila\internetportal-??-??.xml
At least, that worked for me.

Thanks. Will try that out. BTW do you know if possible to add items to the TF3D screen beside the Clock, Call History & Appointment?
I'm not much of a tweaker yet, I'm just learning.
I found this solution by accident.
But how shall I change the files there ?
Could you please send your new files ?
thanks
myrin
I have a dutch t-mobile mda vario IV, with stupid t-mobile logo's i'm trying to get rid off so my file won't help you.
I changed the file with total commander.
There's a line in the xml file that tells what browser to open. Change that to the exe file of explorer (think it was \windows\iexlore.exe). That should do the trick.
I have a program that use embed IE to load webpages. But whenever a link is clicked that point to for eg, new page.htm, opera pop up to intercept it. Can i prevent opera from doing so which is really irritating?
Any ideas guys?
I have tried to change the registry, HKCR\.htm and ask it to open with IE, but IE simply cannot open the page.
Try this registry edit:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\EFBROWSER\
Value 0="Pocket IE"
Value 1="\Windows\iexplore.exe"
OR
Try this cab...
Hello,
I successfully installed Opera Mini on my Elf using Jbed. Works fine so far.
Problem is, I'd like to have it opened when I click the corresponding button in my Internet-Tab on my Manila 2D homescreen.
I tried using M2DC, but it only lets me select .exe files and I do not have an exclusive .exe for Opera Mini, only JBed. But I'd have working .ink file which opens Opera Mini just fine.
So, how do you put Opera Mini in there?
I'm using the german GOLD-ROM.
You will need to wait for an update for manilla 2d if you want it to directly open opera mini, unless you have programing experience, you can compile a program that will open your link. (and its "lnk" not "ink" )
edit: this workaround would only work for opening the browser but would not be useful for the links you can setup in manilla ....the internet lnks are a service call for the browser if i am not mistaken (which is why you must have an exe file))
joel, sorry to say but you're wrong.
Check here buddy: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=429888
not wrong, just didn't realize there was a program that already did it

Another question:
I'd like to add a shortcut to an RSS-Reader in the internet-tab, below the YouTube shortcut.
Is this possible?
I have SKTools, Total Commander, and Registry Key Editors.
I tried setting up file associations to open URL files, but it doesn't work. Only PIE opens the URL files by default.
Can I get the instructions to open URL files with Opera Browser?
Bump, please help me.
This is my 1st bump.
Bump, please help me.
This is my 2nd bump.
As far as I know you can set up thatparameters typing opera:config on your device
Hope it helped,
So do you mean the file associations parameters should be "opera:config"?
URL associations are set up by the app you're using.
if opera is defined as your default browser any url you'll open will automatically pop opera up.
Okay, I am using File Explorer and Total Commander. I want to Open .url files with Opera, it opens with PIE instead.
How do I open it?
What is a "default calendar"?
When I set URL file association for Total Commander, the link does not go online, instead it brings me to an error page. Under the URL box in Opera Browser, it would not show www.google.com, instead it would show something like: storage card/%mystuff/%20favorite links
So if I copied a google.com url into my phone storage card, I want to open it and GO ONLINE with Opera Browser NOT PIE. How do i do this?
PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE ATTACHMENT, SO YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT KIND OF FILE I AM TALKING ABOUT.
meant browser.. not calendar.
when you setup a default browser it will open up all urls in it... automatically

I used Xperia Tweak to setup Opera Browser as my default browser, I still open google.url and it opens with PIE.
My basic file program is Total Commander.
BTW I am not talking about Microsoft Windows. I am talkin about Windows Mobile, and the phone I use is the Xperia X1.
Why is everyone giving me confusing answers. I'm getting more and more confused.
I have looked extremely hard for file associations for opera browser, and this is what i got:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1714441
I do not use morthscript though, and I'm afraid digging into will cause me to factory reset my phone again, and I have rest my phone 10 times already.
Please, tell me if there is any other way to Open URLs via Opera Browser.
I have this program which i downloaded ages ago. I cant remember where i got it from, so im just uploading it myself. Just to clarify, this is NOT my program.
You know how on a pc, you can right click and select "Open with"?
Well, this cab brings that to pocket pc's
Hope it helps
Yeah this is exactly what I was looking for. The thread link from one of my posts also talks about "open with" method. But I don't want to use mortscript.
If your cab is not going to work, I guess I will give up searching for a solution.
Anyways thanks, you are my miracle!.
Here is an update:
Nope... it opens Opera Browser but than it doesn't go to the website (the same exact thing happens if I set file associations for Opera, and the same exact thing still happens if I use the registry editor to change association values, xperia tweak doesn't work, total commander built in file associations doesn't work, sk tools file associations doesn't work either).
I GIVE UP
Registry settings
Hi
Registry settings where file defaults are is:
Hot Key Classes Root.
In this directory there are hundreds (or more) keys relating to all the different file extensions that are associated with programmes, etc. You need to look for:
.htm
.html
htmfile
htmlfile
There may be others. Basically if these keys exist the values you're looking for are the ones with the browser executable listed in them, for example opera9.exe/operaL.exe, iexplore.exe.
I hope that helps

as i see it you ar not talking of .htm or .html files.
You are talking off .url File's
normaly (xp) they are handled by the protocol handler
in wm6.1 there is no such thing and it is directly handeled by iexplore
opera wil not handle these i gues
you need to find a app that reads the urlfile an launh the app with the correct parrameters
you also need this
\hkcr\http,URL Protocol,
\hkcr\http\shell\open\command, ,"\windows\operaL.exe" %1
\hkcr\https,URL Protocol,
\hkcr\https\shell\open\command, ,"\windows\operaL.exe" %1
or you can try http://sourceforge.net/projects/jzsmartmort
(I posted about this last night, but the message got lost in some backup snafu. So I'll post it again. Apologies if they both end up here.)
I hacked together a solution to this problem, and posted it at ppcgeeks.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=62816
It involves installing Mortscript, and having it handle passing the links to Opera. Seems to be working perfectly for me so far. Hopefully my instructions are not too convoluted. Enjoy.
