I'm sure I'm missing something silly, but I can't seem to get this to work. I appear to push the file successfully in recovery:
Macintosh-3:Android hughmccabe$ ./adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local
1260 KB/s (924773 bytes in 0.716s)
When I reboot I still have the same boot animation with CM 5.0.4.1
EDIT: I tried putting the file in system/media but now I have the "android" CM boot image in blue. No idea how that happened.

Do I need to type anything other than adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local?
Do I have to write adb remount first?

If you made his symbol or something, I would certainly use it! Maybe when you get a little time after the one(s) you are already planning? Feel bad asking you to do something so specific when others may not be so interested.

Basic explanation of this bootanimation. Part0, first part of boot animation starts with N E X U S O N E being spelled out top and bottom, then flying multiple N E X U S O N E letters move from outside to inside being consumed by the "fire" in the middle. Then NEXUS ONE is morphed and twisted into the Image you see below. Second part is Red Flame edition of standard bootanimation. Refined this quite a bit to get the colors to really pop off on the N1 screen.
Enjoy.
bootanimation.zip push to /system/media and reboot

Why not just put it in /data/local the boot animation binary looks there first and you don't have to remove your old boot animation.

I second this as I referred to this forum as to where to delete my custom boot animation from and ended up deleting the original one, (and the entire media folder.... i was drunk) but pushed it all back with the latest update (unzip vanilla update.zip and extract /system/media then in the same folder in cmd go: adb push media /system/media)
What`s with the blue version?
Is there anyway to create a ZIP file that will work as upgrade to add the bootanimation? I'm at work, without my microsd cable... Would like to just download from dropbox.
honestly.. when i saw the screenshot i just thought "ugly...".. then i installed it cause my current boot animation is worse lol
now.. i think: Awesome! Great work, really, looks perfect.
I've made a Sushi Bootscreen animation. But i need someone to make it into a signed zip. One that is flashable on the Sushi Rom. Anyone care to help?

Updated post.
Fixed the problems mentioned earlier, boots perfectly.
You do not have to worry about deleting the bootanimation.zip file inside /system/media folder. I've taken care of that. I've edited the google script to delete the bootanimation.zip first and then to flash this boot screen.
Enjoy.
pseudoremora said:

In order for this to work, you need to first remove the bootanimation.zip thats inside the /system/media/ folder, otherwise even if you flash this, the original boot screen will still take precedence.
To do this:
1. Open Command Prompt
2. CD into androidsdk\tools
3. Run following commands:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
rm /system/media/bootanimation.zip
exit
exit
Enjoy.

Download root explorer from market. Mount the sd card and delete the file. Iv never used it though.
But youll always want adb.. It will come in handy in many situations.

Don't do that, I've taken care of it.
I've updated the bootscreen and created a new flashable zip file. All you have to do is copy to your sd card and flash.
I modified the google script to delete the bootanimation.zip before flashing your bootscreen, so the removal will be done automatically when you flash this. Enjoy.
I'll update the original post.
Or that also works... Never hurts to add something to script and save the headaches of people not knowing how to do things themselves (or just havent learned yet).

Learn Linux is what needs to be done. Dual boot if you can and start messing around. Linux and Android go hand in hand.
I think it needs to have more frames, it seems too jerky.
Love this boot screen. Every time my phone boots I tell my gf to look @ it and I grin. She gets pissed.
so, some fine work being done up the android theme thread...
i saw this , and thought i would share it, and tell you guys how i finally managed to get it to work.... i got his copy of the nexus one boot animation, because it's the same resolution as our phones. i unzipped the download, and put the bootanimation.zip (NOT extracted) into my sdk tools folder.
if you even want to consider putting the old one back on, it would be wise to pull it first, then rename it something. the original sprint splash is located at /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
adb reboot recovery
*run custom recovery utility*
adb shell
# mount /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
# rm /system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip
# exit
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media
adb reboot
yes, you have to get rid of the copy in /system/customize/resource first, and if you just put the new one there, for some reason it doesn't work.
probably the same instructions for any boot animation you want. only in the future you could probably just do the adb push to /system/media, since you will have already have erased the interfering sprint splash.

what do you mean you're in a windowed mode? if you got any version other than the nexus version, the resolution is too small, and it probably won't fill the screen.
the nexus version should work just fine. just make sure you pull the bootanimation.zip out of the the download.
if it doesn't work, try downloading again. i had a problem originally, and i think that it may have just been a bad download or something
btw, i guess i missed this thread which details the whole process. my bad.

Nice find. Thanks!
Anyone with a batch image re-sizer feel like scaling this to 480x800? It looks OK at this resolution but would look much nicer at EVO size.
here is my version of the incredible boot animation.
i made it "HTC Evo 4G" instead of "incredible" and made a green version of it also.

I tried the red one, but it just shows from Droid. Doesn't show the little green robot with your modified HTC EVO 4G. =[ Just starts from Droid.
7/11: I have posted new versions of each. The white is toned down a bit to match the HTC EVO emblem, and not be overwhelming. And both fonts have been smoothed so it looks much better.
I also changed the file in each zip to contain the correct name so those of you having problems should be able to run the command without changing filenames.
Mirrors also added!
Hey guys, I made this to represent xda when I boot
Thought I would share
The files attached can be flashed through bootloader.
Boot your phone into fastboot (hold vol up key while powering phone on, select fastboot)
Now open command. To verify your computer is recognizing your phone, type
Code:
fastboot devices
This should list your device. After that, you want to unzip the file you downloaded and place it in your android sdk tools folder.
Now, back in command, change to your tools directory and enter
Code:
fastboot flash splash1 splash.raw565
Remember to back up anything you don't wanna lose, and nandroid. Not responsible for anything that happens if you don't
That said I have flashed it and it works.. enjoy

Are you booted in fastboot? Did you put the raw file into your sdk folder?
If not maybe it needs the original raw file in there too.. I didn't think it should tho. If you wanna try I have attached it. You could try dropping that in tools too and running the same command. Even though thats not the file its looking for.. so it leads me to believe one of previous should fix it
It looks awesome. I think I will leave that one on there for a while. Well at least a couple of days
I flashed mine a little differently though. I changed the name of the file to evosplash1.rgb565 and ran
fastboot flash splash1 evosplash1.rgb565

Black and white for me, worked like a charm. Thanks.
This is my first post here. I quite fancied the idea of making a custom boot animation for my Nexus One. Since then, a few mates have asked if they can have it, so I thought I'd post it here.
I don't really want to put together a .gif as I made each section of the animation separately, so it'd take me too long, but there's a video on YouTube if you search "Nexus One Pro" (I'm a noob, so not allowed to post external links yet)
There's also a 320x480 version on my site for Hero users etc, though I've not tried it on anything other than my N1. I'll come back when I'm beyond padawan status and post the link for that one!
Hoipe you like, any feedback, let me know
Of course you'll need root to install, use a command prompt and go to the tools folder of your Android SDK, (where you should place the bootanimation.zip file) while in USB debugging mode. Type:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
press enter, let it do it's thing, then reset your phone
EDIT: Thanks to Treatcon for making this gif to demo the boot animation:

@Amritttt - I'm not sure how much you already know, so here it is broken down...
1. You'll need to root your phone first. Won't go into that as there are plenty of instructions about.
2. Install the android SDK to your pc at c:\AndroidSDK
3. Save the bootanimation.zip file inside the folder c:\AndroidSDK\tools. (If you download more than one bootanimation to the same folder, your pc may change it to something like bootanimation(1).zip - you need to delete the (1)!)
Connect your phone and enable USB debugging.
Open a command window (on Windows just push start and type "cmd").
Navigate to the SDK tools folder by typing:
cd c:\androidsdk\tools
press enter
4. Check your device is recognised, by typing:
adb devices
press enter

I push it to /system/media
and with "reset" you mean restart
Btw I have a request! I would like to have a bootanimation with the arrows only like you see in the video at 0:37
only the arrows, without android on top of it
Is it possible for you to do that?

Sure, do you mean leave "Android" out for the whole thing, or just when the arrows are raining down? (i.e. do you want it to show "Android" at the end when the X comes across just after the arrow rain?)

Navigate to the SDK tools folder by typing:
cd c:\androidsdk\tools
press enter
4. Check your device is recognised, by typing:
adb devices
press enter
5. Copy over the bootanimation by typing:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
6. Finally, reset your phone, and it should be there

Yea bro I know this way but I actually wanted to know weather we can flash it from recovery.

Oh, then I don't know. Sorry. I did see one where someone had made it into an update.zip, it was a phoenix one. No idea how to do that though.
sweet animation works great!

You could also use a root explorer to move it there manually, if you don't like using ADB.
EDIT: downloaded this. Very nice.

Very nice work on the boot animation. I just tossed it into a gif for you.
