Hey everyone, well, I'm happy to say that I got flash player *10* on 2.1, and I'm in the process of getting it on 1.5. The 2.1 update should be around the end of the month from what I hear, but take it with a grain of salt . The browser was working on every site I tried. I'm currently getting it to 1.5 and putting in the proper frameworks. I'll update the post with information as I go. For faster support, I made a IRC channel for this:
Server: irc.bikcmp.info (port 6667, or port 6670 for SSL)
Channel #pancake (This will be included in the next version of my ROM, pancake.)
If you don't have a IRC client, use this mibbit link:
http://widget.mibbit.com/?server=irc.bikcmp.info&channel=%23pancake
Thanks.
Jason(bikcmp)
Are you going to share Flash Player 10 for 2.1?
Good work!
wow that is great.Cant wait to experience it
Update: testing the files .
ok so hypothetically speaking, with Flash 10 on the hero, that means that if I say wanted to go to www.hot97.com and check out the live stream, which requires the latest version of flash to run, then I could with that? Honestly, being originally from NY, that's the only thing I miss from my old Sprint Mogul days.

I second that miss it badly
I have it in 2.1 but it is dependent on browser so i couldnt get it in 1.5. Good luck though mine is buggy as hell tho lol
So close, but not booting!
The Eris leak has Flash 10, was able to play Hulu and Farmville, they were horribly slow because of my connection, but they work.
Sorry for getting you guys excited, it doesn't look good at the moment, requires the 2.1 SDK api. It won't be a long wait though guys, 2.1 is coming at the end of March; I do some stuff with sprint, and that's what they told us .

Uhh...^^^^, if you don't mind waiting for a camera fix it works now on the leaked Eris Rom and the gumbo 2.1 Roms
I have a build from flipz, and making my own build of 2.1 with camera.
Expect it tomorrow, it HAS FLASH PLAYER 10
Htc was worth the wait
tomorrow meaning sunday? or tomorrow meaning monday? lol
any chance that this flash player 10 would work for a 1.5 rom?
This is included in 2.1, and 2.1 is right around the corner for you guys *HINT*.

This is the first OFFICIAL announcement of Android 2.1 + Sense UI on the HTC Magic.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! (although I won't actually believe it till it comes out)
This means Sense UI with proper SMS timestamp (not smsfixtimes workaround which sometimes doesnt work!!! )
Hmmmm... 2.1 + SenseUI by mid-year..
Wonder what Android version Google will have at that time?
G_____? H____??
hopefully, it wouldn't be too late until it's released..
I'm not going to update with 1.5 + SenseUI, but maybe with the 2.1+SenseUI..
how about you guys?

still better than nothing. so won't complain.
having been trying out every single one of the mod roms, will try out both official ones for sure.
Pretty good they actually changed their minds on it. I will update to 2.1 when that is released.

I've been fooled by carriers so many times...

Very good news.
In fact only after sseing that will believe, but we hope other carriers update aswell.
Nice.. they changed their minds.. probably too many disappointed customers.
now we just wait to see if they will hold up to their promise.
Would doing the update not be a good idea if I want to root? What if it makes it difficult or impossible to root. Would it be better to wait til someone makes some Roms based off the updates? Thx

better wait for rooted rom that's based on the official one.
Waiting for a rooted rom based on the official shouldn't take that long Now it's just a loooong wait for this "mid year release"
It isn't so much for Dream users, they're only getting 1.5 updated. Good thing I have a Magic
Who caress. I gave up on rogers with their bs. Ill wait for the rooted rom with better add ons etc blahhhhhhhhh
I'm not exactly excited about this... Seems Canada is always the last to get all the good stuff when it comes to wireless. I'm still waiting for an unlimited data plan like most other modern countries enjoy.
Sense UI, the hideous windows lookalike interface that hides the pretty/simple linux interface. I hope there will be an option to remove it... if not then iam sticking with cyan, or getting a nexus one..

Actually, this is Android 1.5 + HTC Sense and then Android 2.1. No one said that Android 2.1 + HTC Sense (Expresso) will be on the Magic.
That's pretty awesome. I have a Rogers HTC Magic unlocked and on the AT&T network and I am running Cursordroids 9.6 rom. If I put the stock rom on there and return to the stock radio, will I get the OTA update? Or will the update only be pushed through the Rogers network?
I've been playing with ROMS again. I've sampled most of the 2.1 based stuff and today I installed Gumbo 1.5 Overclocked, thanks to toast's Kernel to 767 mhz.
Instructions are here http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc-hero-roms-hacks/10138-gumbo-1-5c-overclock.html
This is speedy and very stable! Think I'll stay on this until 2.1 gets official released and the magic gets worked on it.
I could never to go back to 1.5 (running Beezy 4 currently) after having 2.1 on my phone. I have no stability issues or speed concerns with this rom. Actually, that's a lie, I do. The Bluetooth on this sucks big time. Gumbo 1.5C will pair and work flawlessly with my Pioneer Avic D3 car stereo but I have yet to find a 2.1 rom that will. That is still not enough of a bugger to get me to go backwards though.

I was liking the idea of the overclocked 1.5 but what stopped me was no jit support for it. So back to 2.1. You are right though. It is fast. Then again so is 1.6 donut.

Like O..M..G...wipe me with a ROM
I've actually been thinking VERY seriously lately about going back to Gumbo 1.5c. This was the fastest and most stable ROM I ever ran. I simply couldn't resist trying out 2.1, and I got reeled in by it.
I absolutely love the new features that 2.1 brings to the table, but honestly, there are still a lot of bugs. Every 2.1 ROM I've run starts out pretty good, but after a few days, they all seem to slow down a lot. I have even run some overclocked 2.1 ROMs, and I still feel they are too slow for comfortable use.
I firmly believe that the Sprint 2.1 RUU leak is nowhere near final code. It's just way too slow to being anything that Sprint would be ready to put on tens of thousands of customer's phones. I think when we see the final Sprint release, there will most likely be a drastic uptick in speeds.

Thank you. This is my opinion exactly. What the DEVS have shown us with the work done on the 2.1 ROMS is just how awesome they will be once we get the official 2.1 release and the Kernel Source.

Seriously? DONT encourage him.
I gave this a try with a pancake 0.1(based on gumbo 1.5c) i had. I have really been impressed. I have ran almost every 2.1 rom we have, darchdroid, damagecontrol, fresh, aloysius, fresh toast, ic3rom, sushi, and a few more im sure. I've been very impressed with the developers work, and I know they are working with an unofficial RUU. I share the opinion of an above poster, than I handle 2.1 for a few days, I love the new features, and it excites me when a new rom comes out, to see what new things the devs have incorporated, but i will probably stay with 1.5 until we get the source code/official update.
With that being said, this overclock patch on pancake 0.1 has been rock stable for me for 3 days now. Just today i flashed to the 1.5c overclock with BFS, and have been running it for about 12 hours, a bit faster. Absolutely no problems yet.
I couldn't be happier!
thanx guys. im glad everyones enjoying OC and BFS. good to see it reviving more then just the .27 eclair builds.
the only thing I couldn't give up is google nav
i thought about going back too, but these devs have spoiled me, i do still have the audio issues with almost all the leak roms even after the audio fix, i guess i just have that lucky phone
Sometimes old and busted is ok huh?

The only way to "turn off" Sense is to actually disable it by rooting your phone. Either removing Rose.apk and all the other Sense files. This will still contain the HTC framework which will make it slower than AOSP but at least it will be faster and look more like AOSP. Before we start talking about roms and everything lets get the phone first and root it. Then we can start deving and cooking. I'm a cooker and sort of a dev from the Hero forums so when June 4th rolls around the rooting begins!
I am 200% positive that this phone will be rooted within a week. The hero took like, what, 2? 3? I can't remember, and that was a pretty low-key launch. People are switching over to Sprint just to get the Evo, it'll be huge. There's a way bigger userbase now. So we can start worrying about roms and junk already.
The first thing that popped into my head when I first read that was could that mean it could get OTA's like 2.2 but one post above said its still the HTC framework so I guess no froyo, and therefore no flash for an indefinite amount of time. I don't want the evo (i would if I had Sprint I suppose) but it kinda sucks to think that the phone will ship with old software, of course the phone will still kickass and most people won't care. But I haven't read a ton about the phone maybe a projected release for froyo on this phone has already been established?
I have a Sprint Hero atm, and I can understand why people would want an official 2.2 release for the Evo from Sprint. But honestly, I've been on 2.1 for over a month on a 1.5 device that is still waiting on its 2.1 upgrade. Once root happens, I'm sure 2.2 ROMs won't be far away.
Others have stated that the CDMA Hero has a VERY strong dev group, but the Hero was a sleeper release (aka. not much interest). Take the hottest phone out there compared to ALL carrier lineups, and you can bet it will have the best devs on it.
I am betting on a 1-2 week root, followed by 2.2 shortly after that. Hell, i'm not even getting the hotspot addon since I'll just get it for free with root!

If I had to guess I am gonna say it will be rooted before the official launch, lots of EVO's out there already and the system dumps are out there, and thats all you really need to root it.

Think they're about the same. The MTTest3 is good but I prefer CM6.1 for all the extra goodies that come it it. CMParts etc.
Okey, I will try CM6.1.
I don't think android 2.3 will run fast as 2.2:
2.2 is a port of official froyo from mytouch3G, so it's very optimized.
I hope in android 2.3 on G1, I would try to develop something to port 2.3 but I don't know how can I do.. I think by the official sdk but.. mmh
(I'm a programmer but I never developed roms for phones)
Cyanogen said on Twitter that he currently has no plan to port 2.3, as the OS will most likely be GPU-driven.
Honestly, his 6.1.0 release is pretty great.

BTW if 2.3 is too slow for our phones, I'll stay on 2.2, no problems!

slide qwerty
800x480px amoled/superAmoled/superLCD
ram>512
rom>1gb
slot SDXC rolleyes: )
cpu>1ghz (and good performance.. the number isn't sufficient )
possible cpu with dual core
excellent gpu
5mpx camera with flash and 720p 60fps recording (also 1080p 30fps would be perfect ) with good optic and NO HTC PINK HALO
google experience or sense
I ask too much?
Do you think I'll keep G1 for the rest of my life?
It can probably be adapted from the AOSP source, but since it has some new gui thingy w/e that is, it will never be the same on our devices, whats the point in downgrading from something that works quite well atm, 2.2.1

Well, for me there's one big reason why I'd like to upgrade to 2.3 - Native SIP.
What I don't understand is why Native SIP hasn't been built-in from 1.0! Now there's a flood of poor and mediocre SIP apps on the market, none of which are very good.

Having just switched from MT3G-test3 to Cyanogen 6.1, I would have to say they're pretty comparable. If you put my feet to the fire, I'd say MT3g-test3 is slightly faster, especially in regards to installing apps from the market. But the goodies available in Cyanogen are so good that...
Aargh, it's hard to decide. I have a nandroid+ext of both, so I can swap back and forth at will. I might spend a few days with each to see which one I enjoy using more, and report back. One thing making it harder... I have a white G1, which historically has had problems with Cyanogen. But the latest seems to be working a lot better than previous releases.

Well we still need the kernel source to post on the samsung site. Hopefully that will post sometime tomorrow but we can't make any native roms until that happens.
Figures, the day I finally decide to root, AT&T decides to release FROYO the next day. lol with that said, if I do root today, will I have to re-root tomorrow when I upgrade?
I thought I'd get it early by flashing cognition 4, as I've used cognition 3.04 and firefly and have been impressed by the wonderful features.
If you're wondering-- Don't bother doing this yourself. I've flashed cog4, and have found it lacking almost all the features that made cog3.04 cool, like having choices for unlock screens, tethering and wap come with warnings that these are pay services for AT&T, and touchwiz is the default launcher.
I'm going back to cog3.04, a far superior rom, later this afternoon.
Nice, 7 months late...
As for Cog 4 or KB1 roms, I'm going to wait until they are on par with current roms in terms of features.
Same thing I plan to do. I'm gonna put this stock Froyo on tomorrow, and once the devs have time to play with the official source and get things good and stable with some tweaks that I find useful, I will flash a custom ROM later on.
I can't imagine this could be better than what I've been experiencing since flashing Andromeda 1.2. Thanks, but no thanks.

+1 Same boat.
I saw this on my facebook and was like, "Squee!" But I'm already using 2.2.1 on the andromeda final rom, and it's so awesome. Somehow I doubt anything AT&T is willing to dish out is going to make a better rom than that. :X
Yeah, I really wish Att &/or Sammy gave us 2.2.1, I almost think its a downgrade from what we already have. Phx 4.5 is great source can really make us have a ton of awesome!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
With the 2.2 source for the cap and 2.2.1 source for the i9000, can devs merge them and make a Cap 2.2.1 rom from KB1? I dont understand it all well enough to even guess how far fetched that is.
to upgrade or wait for awhile
if we upgrade we will still be able to run roms like ff and phoenix?
