Motorola has now posted the source for the backflip. Hopefully this info helps us get this phone opened up from at&t's crippling efforts. Thanks to nokternl at modmymoto for finding this!

1. DOWNLOAD USB DRIVERS
Motorola ADB Driver 32bit
Motorola ADB Driver 64bit
2. INSTALL THE SDK
-Download latest SDK http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
-Extract Archive to C:\SDK\ (or C:\Android, or whatever you want)
3. Enable debugging on your phone (thanks naplesbill)
-Goto Settings > Applications > Development > and Check the USB debugging option
4. Optional, but recommended
-Setup Enviroment Variables:
On Windows, right-click on My Computer, and select Properties. Under the Advanced tab, hit the Environment Variables button, and in the dialog that comes up, double-click on Path (under System Variables). Add the full path to the tools/ directory to the path AFTER A SEMICOLON (;C:\SDK\tools\) .-Setup Droid Explorer:
Goto Droid Explorer Downloads and snatch the latest version, then install. (mine showed an error during install i believe due to the lack of HTC drivers. If you installed motorola's drivers it should still be in your start menu and work fine)
If for some reason you can't figure it out, install the drivers then try this installation guide: ADB For Dummies Guide

Cool, I hope this dump gets some attention in here. I wanna get this piece rooted so i can get all this bloat out of the rom!
There could be some useful stuff in here for some people... if for some reason you hate a google search widget you could change to yahoo . There is a clock mode in this build. There are also a bunch of AT&T specific apps: All-sports GPS, ATT Maps, ATT Music, ATT Navigator, ATT Radio, ATT Wifi hotspots (free wifi), Mobile Banking App, Manage Sim Card, Mobile Video, MobiTV, MusicID, Quickoffice, ATT where, YPmobile. Some of these apps are nice like Mobile Banking for instance, but some are bull**** like att's Where they put on here, its a subscription based version!

I think Yahoo! should make their own OS because they their own Calander and Contacts for Yahoo! Mail Users. Maybe their just lazy.

I get the taste that they didn't want to have anything todo with Google in this ROM. The AT&T Maps app has alot of logos about telenav but it completely looks like Google Maps.
They have also branded a bunch of popular apps with their own name. MusicID, YellowBook, etc.
But like I said. It's slooooooooowww..

I rooted my mytouch and i'm running CM 4.2.4 and I don't know if it installed apps to my sdcard or not but i had to reformat my sdcard, and ever since i now have missing apps.
I say they are missing because they no longer show in app manager, but when i go to market, i can't install them because it says they are installed?
So i'm hoping if i can figure out why Market thinks its installed, I can manually remove these "missing" apps. Is there a setting/file I can modify?
Any suggestions, are greatly appreciated?

actually, he's talking about Android
Moved as not software release or development.
Please take your time to read the rules.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447646
Please dont flame me for this. I know that it's technically in the wrong section but the people who read the Development section are likely to know a bit more about this topic.
Anyway, Google Buzz. It's new, and it's pretty cool. It's built-in to the new version of Maps, but the Web App (buzz.google.com) will only work in Android 2.0 and up. I remember that before Google changed the Maps Navigation back-end, making an edit to the build.prop would make Navigation work on 1.6. So, would something similar work for Buzz?
I'm at school and I have no access to a computer with the SDK on it so I can't get at my build.prop at the moment via ADB. Could somebody test this if they get a chance?
Again...I know that this is technically the wrong section, but please be gentle with me
I think If you modify browser's user agent you could use buzz. I do it with firefox.
BR.
Why would you need to modify your browser to use Buzz...
Just open up Google Maps and it is already built into Maps 4.0, like you said in your msg...
Or do you not want to have to go that extra step?...
I mean yes it would be nice for it to work without having to use Maps, but why make extra work?
It's just a thought....
They are working on it for G1 device. Here: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=3dcfc0961244b5ac&hl=en
Here's the build.prop's if you want to try (warning, you'll also see lwp's in marketplace THESE WILL NOT WORK).

Try the build.prop's I put up earlier. It DOEN'T work in the browser on 1.6 (which is what you want).

And as he has stated, he wants it in the browser.
Oh ok yeah my bad I corrected myself.
but yeah I dont think its gunna be available for 1.6ers anytime soon. maybe in the future?
The Maps integration does NOT allow you access to all of the Buzz features. It only allows you to post, and comment on other Buzz posts.
AND the Buzz in maps only allows public posts. I don't really care to share location-based status updates to everyone in the world.
It's pretty goofy that the web app doesn't work in the 1.6 browser...REALLY goofy that it doesn't work in CyanogenMod with the backported Eclair browser.
The ROM cookers are doing a great job but it's really annoying that Goog seems to have basically EOL'ed Android 1.x after barely a year of service.
Google Buzz works with Maps 4.0 on cyan 2.x rom but it breaks multi-touch for some reason.
Oh wow...IT WORKS!
Will create a new thread on how to make it work.

Maybe.
Strike the part about it working, though. There appears to be a catch. Just pushing the build.prop enables the web app but causes a Force Close of Maps whenever you try and run Maps.
Testing what happens if you push the build.trout.prop as well right now.
I cant get it to post anything in maps, but then I am running OE1.1.5Beta. got it in the browser though.
I am running 1.6 and all I did was install maps 4.0 from this forum through terminal and then went to market and it prompted me for update with google maps buzz and i did. Now I am running official google 4.0 from market on my 1.6 FastTest rom.
Okay, it turns out that there is currently no way to get both a working Maps application (at all) and the Buzz web app on Android 1.6. Looks like we'll just have to wait for Google.
Other than using Root Explorer, and ADB'ing with the ls command, is there a way to see the phone's files (not SDCARD) on the PC with GUI capabilities?

droid explorer also works.
I've used droid explorer and it works pretty well. I ran into some quirks at times but should be adequate. Root explorer is the bomb though for file management on the device sans pc.

well buddy idk where your other thread went, so ill just post it here. js recomends posting a logcat, and it does make sense. we cant fix the issue without knowing what it is.
my recomendations:
if your really getting hit with fc's, so bad that your being distrupted from daily use, id honestly say youd need to live with rosie. for whatever reason rosie is making you so uncomfortable, maybe its time to just learn to accept her into your life
switch roms. ic3 is all aosp, has jit, and fixed the utility fc issue. oc'ing is possible in any rom, just takes some modding. i truthfully dont like oc'ing, and would advice against it(personally....)
talk to the dev. i dont follow that thread, as in, at all, but im sure if you posfed there theyd be more than happy to help.

Thanks Luckily I ran Linux for a couple of years before I got this Mac so I'm ok at command line stuff.
I have issues with Kik Messenger's messages not being pushed properly to my phone when on a custom rom.
What I have tried so far:
Axura 2.1 w/JK3 modem
Axura 2.2 w/JK4 modem
Axura 2.2 w/JL3 modem
Cognition v2.3b7 (defaults)
Perception Build 8 (defaults)
Symptoms (the are the same for all of the above):
After first installing the rom and the kik messenger program it appears to work as advertised. After about 5 minutes of use is when the problems start and never fix themselves. Kik Messenger will *only* receive messages when I am typing to someone. If I switch to another application it will *not* receive any new messages until I open the program and start typing to someone. I checked the running services and Kik Push Service is still running in the background. I have not used any task killers either. I have received messages up to a full 24hrs late because of this
Strangely, this issue doesn't exist on the stock rom from Samsung. If anyone has any clue of what I could change, it would be greatly appreciated. I know custom roms have a hosts file that blocks ads etc., I wonder if this could have something to do with it (although I doubt it).
TIA

Answer bolded above.
I'd love a solution to, other then "go back to stock rom"
Try the developer?
Sent from a phone somewhere in the universe
I deleted the hosts files, does the same thing....
Gentlemen, gentlemen, gentlemen. The answer is quite obvious. It's your Android ID. None of the ROMs that you have been using have a unique Android ID, they are all the same. You need to obtain your original, uniquie Android ID for your phone. You can do this by flashing back to stock JF6 or JH7, copying your settings.db file to your computer, opening it with whatever SQLite editor you fancy, and then updating the settings.db on your custom ROM with your unique ID. And problem solved.
Here is the Get Satisfaction page from KIK where they discuss the issue.
http://getsatisfaction.com/kik/topi...atically_received_when_phone_is_idle_too_long
Oh wow....
Thanks
Does that affect any other app ?
Ok it worked... I used http://www.appbrain.com/search?q=android+id+changer to put the new Android_ID, less of a pain in the ass to do.
If you have an ClockworkMod Backup you can use these the 2 files in the zip attaches, extract them to the folder where you have your img and just type unyaffs datadata.img to exctract the content of the img files and get your android ID. (the settings.db you need is in the datadata.img file, in \databases\com.android.providers.settings\ folder) use SQLite Editor : http://goo.gl/cPv8z to check the Android_ID open the .exe, load the extracted settings.db and go to browse data, choose secure in the drop down and down there you should have your android_id.
Thanks miztaken1312 for the hint.

I knew about that app, but I'm one for security. I trust no one and nothing with anything on my phone. So if that app can access my settings.db file, it can access more. Unfortunately, there are some really sneaky little ****s out there.

Sent from my Captivate
Hello everybody,
when I searched the web for a tutorial how to add a city to MIUI-Weather app and found nothing yet, I started to try to add my own city to the database of MIUI. I was succesful and I thought that it would be a good idea to write a tutorial how to add your own city to the db.
You need the following:
root
SQLite Database Browser: sourceforge.net/projects/sqlitebrowser/
OR Root Explorer && SQlite Editor (thanks to Fisher_9511)
I'm not responsible if you damage your phone, brick it or it does not start anymore. You're the one who's responsible for your device. You should know what you do
I explain the process on the database of Europe and Germany, because there's nothing added for Germany.
First thing to do is to download the database of your desired location. Save it somewhere where you find it again. Now start "SQLite Database Browser" and open the database. It should now look like thid (Attached Image 1). Switch to the tab "Browse Data" and select "hotcity" as the table (Attached Image 2).
Now search for the abbreviation of your country, in my case it's "DE" for "Deutschland" (Germany). Remember the abbreviation and the posID of your country. So in my case I need "DE" and "110000001"
Now head over to weather.com and search for your city, where you live in. In my case I search for "Cloppenburg, Germany". Now you should have an url like this: "weather.com/weather/today/GMXX0017:1:GM". The part which is necessary is "GMXX0017", the GM stands for Germany, the XX is a placeholder I think and 0017 is the ID we need.
Now we have the posID of our country and the ID of our city. Now we have to sum the posID and the ID of our city. In my case it's "110000001" + "0017" which ends up in "110000018". This is the posID for our city.
Now we switch back again to our SQLite Database Browser and select "city" as our table (Attached Image 3). Now we have to go to the last page (Attached Image 7) and look for the last ID used in the database. In my case it's "16619" (Attached Image 4), so the next ID is "16620".
Now we create a new record and insert all our information we have, this happens when you double click the specific field of the new added empty line.
This should look like this (Attached Image 5).
When you entered every information it should look like this (Attached Image 6). Save your database and push it back to your device.
Code:
adb push miui_city_entire_eu.db /data/data/com.miui.weather/databases/miui_city.db
Now you should be able to select your city in the weather app and use the app effeicient.
(I hope it was the right forum )
I don't know Vietnam Post ID so MIUI weather fail to update.
LOL!
Well, to be honest, this is not the full part of the issue, there is more backend to this app which you have no clue about.
Good luck with your inaccurate ramblings about the id's.
We actually made those up and make it correspond to our backend system for picking up data.
Therefore if the PosID is not in our backend the app wont work anyway! So, everything you've said is a load of crap
If the PosID was to conform we'd have to add them to the backend system and also in addition to this in order of the last valid posIDs not your own.
Could an admin please close this thread down! it's heading no where without the MIUI-DEV backend anyway so its pointless chatter.
Damn thank god for the polite dev's. Why not explain this to him nice instead of being an ass ?
Why are you so rude with this guy, mobiusdigital?? he is just trying to make that app a little better, for those who desire more of it!! It's not neccesary for you to be such an indecent person, not even if you were the master developer for that app...
I think you should appologize "Technolover"... Beeing a "professional" dev. (as I think you are), also demands to be more polite... there are other ways to say the things you just wrote... or is that everyone in your country are that rude?? Gosh!!
I was going to install this app, but after the absolutely putrid attitude of the dev above, I will not. Sorry, pal.
Followed all instructions to the letter, but the MIUI weather app won't open, well I hope that MIUI Devs will add some functionnality to MIUI Weather to add our own cities, or something similar.
for the record
using HTC HD2, with last MIUI and living in France.
WOW that was rude

Oh look, its the clown who thinks he owns miui. He wanted to sell the weather widget because he done a few dirty hacks. Also he was considering to sell some language packs. Myself and others co confronted him and our posts got deleted and I got banned.
You should see his attitude in miui-dev
WOW! I was really keen to try the app out, had been checking their site every couple of weeks to see if my country was in there yet. After mobiousdigital's reply, I'm disgusted.

Sorry, but this works only for posID's which are in the "hotcity" table. I don't know the real backend of the app but I think that the posID's of the countries are just there to change them to the letters which wetter.com uses (e.g.: GMXX0017 for Cloppenburg).

Well, to be honest, this is not the full part of the issue, there is more backend to this app which you have no clue about.[...]

Followed all instructions to the letter, but the MIUI weather app won't open, well I hope that MIUI Devs will add some functionnality to MIUI Weather to add our own cities, or something similar.

Sorry, but Asia isn't in the hotcity table, so it's not possible to get it working, except you know the posID from the Backend of the App but I don't think so =/
You have to wait for an update from MiUI-Weather

Oh look, its the clown who thinks he owns miui. He wanted to sell the weather widget because he done a few dirty hacks. Also he was considering to sell some language packs. Myself and others co confronted him and our posts got deleted and I got banned.
You should see his attitude in miui-dev
