Is there a SMS app like Handcent SMS for WM6.5? - General Questions and Answers

I am seriously considering buying the HD2 when it comes out this month. I have the G1 and there is an android sms app called Handcent SMS.. I love this app, it lets you assign a different ringtone for every contact. I know all phones let you have a ringtone when a contact calls you, but this app lets you have a separate ringtone when a contact text you.
And this app lets you have a background picture in the sms window for each contact also.
Is there any type of app like this for WM6.5?

Moved as not software release.

bump.
anyone???

Nope, not really. Don't know why.

Is it possible to auto delete SMS?

Let's say that a friend of mine sends texts to someone that he wouldn't want my, (erm his) wife to find out about.
Is there an SMS manager that will auto delete all texts to and from a certain number at 5pm, for example, each day?
My friend will be very grateful for any ideas.
look for a firewall app it wont delete them but it will hide them.
Not exactly a common request, so probably not.
Should be easy enough to knock up an app to iterate through the messaging inbox and delete anything from number x. So if you know VB/C#/C++, or care to put in a few days learning, it should be an easy enough project.
Who knows, you could even profit from it, and we could see AffairCoverup Pro(TM) released in MS' new app store.
Yeeaaaah. ACP(TM) We have a title. I just need to learn to program...
Clean sms periodically

cool app ! I was almost sure that was not possible to do that !
SMS Organizer - should work for you
Try SMS Organizer ( search for SMS Organizer by trailblaze in google play store)
It can auto delete sms when the sms sender matches some predefined number or string.
Basically you can set 'rules' where you mention that if the incoming/outgoing sms macthes certain conditions (say the sender is so and so,or the message text has a certain keyword), auto delete/move it to a custom folder.
Great app to organize and manage your sms inbox bye the way.

Program to intercept SMS?

I am new to Android and looking for a program that will intercept certain text messages and allow me to mute it and mark it as read. On my Touch Pro 2 I used a great program called Magicall. Is there anything similar for Android?
Thanks!
Mike

I am looking to mute and move to a folder, messages from certain contacts. I tried gblocker and SMSGuard but both still leave a name in the messaging program.
Thanks.
Mike

ChompSMS has the blacklist feature. It works well for hiding suggestive messages from my friends about my girlfriend from.. well, her.
It hides messages from the regular inbox and from notifications, but you can go in to the settings and specifically state that you want the program to show blacklisted messages. They'll still be in your inbox with this selected, just not come up on notifications. If the option is off, they don't appear in your inbox or notify until you reselect the option.
SPC or super private conversation sounds like what you maybe looking for. Check it out on the market.

Intercept SMS
Try aFirewall too. It is nice for incoming calls too.
I think this should work for you.

How can I get a cleaner SMS app?

Howdy.
I moved from a Treo pro to a Droid X, and I can now see 3 times fewer SMS messages. What?
Is there any way to get rid of these silly bubbles around text messages? I want it to look like IRC, essentially, or windows mobile sms. The google talk app seems to do it right.

unless all your contact have your google voice number using google voice prob isnt the way to go simce the message they recieve will show up from the google voice number.
you can try handcent. i think the bubbles look b4st but you can go to settings, custom style, bubble settings, conversation style, android and will give you a list view with a line between speakers
Agreed. HandCent is quite the SMS app. You can customize it how you see fit, from button colors to viewable content.

I don't think the OP means that he uses GVoice, but the Google "Talk" app (Gtalk). He/she favors the Gtalk layout over other SMS apps, afaik.

Looking for SMS app alternative

Right now I'm using Handcent SMS and it's okay but I'm missing a very usefull feature: Marking some text in a recived SMS and send it to another app.
Example:
If I recive a adress then then mark it and send it to maps.
If I recive a appointment then mark it and send it to the calender
Is there an SMS app that can do this? and have all the other great features of Handcent?
I am not aware of an sms app that can do that. There are copy/paste apps that can get addresses over to Nav as a work around though.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
I'm using the copy/paste trick now but I think it culd be done easier.
Am I really the first one who thought of this?
I'm not a developer but I think it would be somewhat easy to make.
1. make it possible to mark out some of the text in a sms
2. pop up a menu with options: Save as.., copy, send to..
3. a sub menu to send to where it list the apps that should receive the text. maps, contacts, calender, whatever
Well now the idea is out there, then I home some developer picks it up

Any settings for audible reminder of SMS or email?

My wife is replacing her Samsung Highlight with a new MT4G, which we can all appreciate is a significant upgrade. One feature her Highlight did, was remind her that she had unread SMS text every 5 minutes or so. For her, phone in purse, car, whatever, it's rather helpful. Can I set something similar on her ny MT4G? The LED blinking isn't gonna cut it for her. And I don't want to tell her the Highlight can do something better than the MT4G! Thanks

Not sure about the built-in app, but Handcent SMS can do this and has some pretty nice other features as well.
ChompSMS also has the feature but that program's buggy. It causes the mms service to crash on my mt4g when I receive a picture mms and also causes the laucher to go all black on my wife's vibrant.

I'm confused how handcent would integrate with how MT4G handles messages...it seems like MT4G integrates SMS with facebook/twitter and your contacts. Would handcent mess with this???
It doesn't completely replace the built in messenger, texts are still accessible from the builtin app as well as from handcent. You just install handcent and then configure the builtin one to stop notifying on new messages. All the account links remain in place.
How about something for email? I don't SMS but I would like reminders about email received.
And calls missed, how about for that? I used to have reminders on a older non-smart phone and miss it.
I checked for other programs by those who did Handcent SMS, but nothing there. What can be recommended for (reliable and hopefully very configurable) reminders?
