Is there any way now to flash back to an older SBF?
fixed recovery.exe = its not working , root exe not found windows warning
batch reply "root.exe not found" after double click the defy_recovery.exe
also, from above reply:
"mount: Operation not permitted"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,
I found out the way to get this rooting working.
everything stays the same until running the recovery.exe part
then please refer to the old rooting method
BUT using the rooting pack mentioned above link
then flash back to 2.51
it should work!
cheers!

this will work on HK TW SG version 2.51
can we have any details about the rooting process ?
i want to get the Taiwan version of the Defy (Blurless)
1) is there any way to get root access, but still use the firmware that came with the phone ? (TW SG HK 2.51) i wouldn't mind doing some stuff manually...
2) As far as i know the original ROM of the Taiwan SG HK defy isn't available for download right ?
thanks for your hard work.
tenfar, thank you very much for your great work, I just rooted my HK DEFY.
Here are few steps added for those like me very new to Android and Root.
1. If you RSD Lite did not recognize your DEFY, download the USB driver here:
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/
2. Power off DEFY. Then press 'Volume Up' and 'Power' together to boot to loader before you flash the SBF to your DEFY.
Happy rooting.
Thanks
Now I finished my HK defy rooted.
Very thanks for tenfar.
rooting wit Uk 2.51 possible..not other ROM flashable
hi Guys.....i have installed the UK JRDNEM_U3_2.51....and the root method desribed here worked too...
My question is: What happens after
- rooting the Uk U3_25.1 with our method (Sytem.boot.only 2.1 2.5 etc.)
- Restore system with SystemRecovery-App "Recovery Boot"
- i restored with a backup of t-mobile U3_2.21 (from my friend)
-worked
??
Build Number ist U3_2.21.0 now
Did I downgraded my system now?
If yes,
the Problem is then:
I cannot flash any ROM (RSD 4.9) from here http://and-developers.com/sbf:defy
except the JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_BLUR_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_USAJRDNEMARAB1B8RTGB02C.0R_USAJORDANRTGB_P035_A011_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
Therefore I dont believe i downgraded anything :-mad:
The flash-procedure with all other ROMs is the same:
RSD : finished --> Defy is not booting is hanging in the bootLoader-mode
Any Help?
Or anyone with a Vodafone 360 Original Backup that would be great
Thanks

I try to install settings.apk, but It error.
Please tell me how to install it on emulator.
What emulator do you use?
thanks!
I've a problem installing Java in my 858:
I follow theses steps:
Open Terminal Emulator
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/jbed.apk /system/app
cp /sdcard/libjbedvm.so /system/lib
but at the last command say me the memory is not enought, so retried but say the file exist and is read only, open the explorer i see the file is some kb versus the 3 mb in sdcard, i tried in terminal change permission with chmod in 777 at this file, tried in adb, tried to eliminate but nothing to do, i've smartlucky rom 2.4 (froyo 2.2.2 rooted).
Some suggestion ?
i want to use INT2EXT in cm9 i followed this tutorial
xpmode said:
INT2EXT+ INSTALLATION TUTORIAL
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE S2E, LINK2SD OR SIMILAR, YOU MUST REPARTITION SD CARD AND FACTORY WIPE
int2ext+ is a relatively new script that instead of making symbolic links(Link2SD) or moving certain partitions(S2E) to sd, extends your internal storage into your ext partition in sd, which means S2E's potential space saving and Link2SD's stability combined together and gives you something to brag about.
PREPARATIONS
Download the latest build of CyanogenMod 9.
Download the latest version of CronMod INT2EXT+ here.
Open CyanogenMod 9 zip.
Navigate to /system/etc/init.d
Open INT2EXT+ zip.
Navigate to /system/etc/init.d
Add the file called 40int2ext in the /system/etc/init.d directory in CM9 zip.
INSTALLATION
Go to recovery, do factory reset and advanced > partition sd card.
Select 1024M for ext(for some reason, I selected 4096 and it only read the first 1GB-ish) and 0M for swap.
Wait until it says Done and goes to menu.
Go to Mounts and Storage.
Select USB storage and connect your phone to your computer.
Copy your modified CM9 zip file to the root of your sd.
Select unmount.
Reflash ROM.
Reboot.
After reboot, go to settings > developer settings > root access and select Apps and ADB.
Go to your adb directory and do adb shell.
Type su.
Then do:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/etc/init.d
chmod 644 00banner
chmod 644 90userinit
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
Reboot.
After reboot, reboot into recovery and flash gapps.zip normally.
Then go to Applications and enjoy your new, extended internal storage.

Err, now that's funny. To do adb shell, all you have to do is put in the command adb shell
Isn't that funny? xD
What the guide meant for adb directory is the place where the adb.exe file is kept.
So all you have to do is put in cmd:
adb shell
and while you're in shell you just put in those commands:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/etc/init.d
chmod 644 00banner
chmod 644 90userinit
mount -o ro,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
After that to close the terminal, type in:
exit
then adb reboot
Hope that helps =)

Hmmm, you don't need adb for this. Just use terminal emulator on your phone. It comes installed by default on CM9 roms. Or you can search play store for android terminal emulator. The app is by Jack Palevich
Code:
su
mount -rwo remount /system
cd /system/etc/init.d
chmod 644 00banner
chmod 644 90userinit
mount -ro remount /system
Then again, I don't really see why it is necessary to deny execute permissions to these scripts in first place. They are just empty shells - unless they have been modified.
I'm using int2ext4 right now and never really had to...
EDIT: If you want to reverse these changes then
Code:
su
mount -rwo remount /system
chmod -R 755 /system/etc/init.d
mount -ro remount /system

As of link2sd it uses installrecovery.sh file in /system/etc to mount sd-ext partition. It then moves apps/data/dalvik-cache to sd-ext and places symlinks at the original locations.
Take a look here where i've explained why symlink based apps/scripts should not be used on HTC explorer.
