Hey, guys! I wanna start developing some apps, but I'm having some problems. I'm running it on a macbook pro and when I go to create a new AVD, it I need to enter a target, but there's one problem: the target part is grayed out, so I can't enter anything there! any help is appreciated.
You need to install all the platforms and device AVDS from the servers. Update your SDK with all the latest API's
thanks!!! i tried updating before, then went through the settings to fix that, and it worked! now if only i could get the emulator to stop rebooting lol.

Alright, since my google search returned the whole 2 (two!) relevant results, and the search here around 10 irrelevant, I thought I'd drop this on the community, in hope for some help.
I've upgraded my 64bit OpenSuSE to 11.2 the other day, downloaded the Android SDK, set up the environment variables, and fired up the "android" script that is supposed to download and install a platform, so I could access my device through adb shell.
Here I ran into a problem: Half of the buttons I click in the SDK updater don't seem to work, it will not save the settings, it will not remember the URL I type in (had to use http), and when it reads the http repo, it will not download and install what I have cheked! What happens is, I click the button, it appears to stick down for a while, then pops back up as if I never clicked it, and nothing happens.
My first question is, has anybody tried this on SuSE 11.2? I have had no problems on 11.1, for instance.
Second, does this need any "special" Java configuration to work properly? I have tried both the openJava (now built-in into SuSE), and Sun Java latest (SDK and JRE). I don't think so, but asking just in case...
I'm pretty much stuck. If anyone has this working, or better yet, if anyone knows where I could download platforms outside of the updater, please be so kind and share. Thank you!
P.S. Oh, and the optional third question: Is there a way to trigger the download from console? That would probably help to figure out what goes wrong...
EDIT: Not Java problem, but updater problem. It does not show any of the SDKs, it shows only APIs, which can only be added if a valid SDK exists.
Can anyone confirm this?
It seems I need an external link to SDK 1.6 for Linux (for example). Can't anyone share?
Thanks!
Still stuck...
EDIT2: Solved it, my adb works again. But the updater app is crap I installed the APIs, then shut it down, rebooted, then ran it again. Also, for some reason the buttons wouldn't respond to clicks, but if I click and then push Enter key, it works. Took me a while to figure this one out.
Hey, I'm getting ready to install Android SKD on openSUSE 11.2 from scratch. Could you list your steps and/or suggestions based on how you got it working? Thanks.
How did it go?? Sry, just saw this...
Don't have time to do the steps.. actually, everything works just as the standard procedure suggests, with the exception of button clicks - as I said, each time I clicked a button, I had to press the Enter key (as if the click was just giving it focus, but not the actual command)
Feel free to PM me (or any other user), especially if the thread is a bit old, like this one.

Hey guys this is my first time really working on an android and I am trying to get it to work with Metropcs.
Here is my question.
I have this Android SDK r06 and when I execute it, a window pops up. There are several things checked and unchecked. I basically just hit accept all and then run it...
Do I need to accept all? or can I just run what was initially checked off when I first opened it?
I dont want to install any un needed stuff since this part takes forever!!!
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hey all, I could use a little help I'm new to this stuff. I installed the Android SDK all correctly with the correct Java JDK and for some reason when I create a virtual android and run it I get "Error Loading Preferences", is there any way I can fix this to get it to work? I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (if you needed to know), thank you for your time and help in advanced.
Yeah, I'd like to know the answer to this also
R u trying to root your phone for the first time or something and what phone is it
ohh no, im not rooting it yet (still have to receive my phone in the mail), but in the virtual server when i create a virtual android I receive that error
Ohh alright then it may just be your computer just wait for the phone to come in
okay, thank you!
I just got my SNS yesterday and it's my first android phone (was previously using an LG cookie) First thing I did was try to root it, and I seemingly succeeded, or so I thought. It looks like it's rooted and the superuser apps there but I can't install apps using any of the guides I find or even update to 2.3.2 (keep getting and error 7 msg). When I try to install using APKInstaller it tells me it can't find the device, which I think is the problem.
I think the problem is that someway or another windows 7 64 bit stopped recognizing my phone as a Nexus S and now recognizes it as a portable device in device manager (There's also an Android Phone, with an Android Composite ADB interface) I used the SDK to install all the updates available including the google usb driver rev. 4. I tried updating the Portable device driver using the google usb driver but windows keeps it as a WPD Filesystem Volume Driver. Also I noticed when I checked to see if adb gave me a serial number for the phone using the cmd prompt commands in the rooting guides it comes up blank.
I used usbdeview to delete everything seemingly related to Android, but everytime I reconnect the phone it, installs the drivers for the portable device.
I need help to make windows recognize the phone as a nexus s again so I can update and install apps and games etc. If anybody out there can help i'll really appreciate it. Explain the steps to me as if you were talking to a child, leaving nothing out plz. Thanks for any assistance.
I live outside the US (no android market) and would hate to think I messed up and expense phone purchase in just one day
Not quite sure where to start. But my intuition tells me its the Windows 7 64-bit and drivers that's not playing along. You might want to google if other users are having trouble with W7 64-bit with Android drivers. Otherwise, find another computer and repeat the steps. If not, flash a custom ROM to see if that eliminates the problem. You haven't damaged your phone. Don't worry.
just install directly from android market website
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I assume you mean instal the update from the market (which I can't do because I don't have wifi)?
I managed to get the adb to list a device number after I installed java x32 & x64 bit. I still can't install apps or get the update to work, but I'll try unrooting and then rerooting my phone as see how that goes.
Oh, I haven't done the initial sign into gmail thing yet in case that makes any difference
Edit: god I feel stupid. I didn't realize that I had to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.3.1 and then to 2.3.2. I did that an everything upgrade without any problems. Now just got to figure out how to install apk's and I'm golden
Edit 2: Ok, I figured everything out and now i'm up to date with updates and I can install apps and games. Oh Happy Day Thx for all the help
Hello everybody.
I'm new here and I looked for an answer for me but I didn't found it.
My problem is:
I've used Eclipse Luna and ADT Bundle with no problems while several months. Two days ago I installed Android Studio and after installation it began to download 'SDK Tools' and others. I cancelled this operation because I haven't time. Since this moment, SDK Manager doesn't run. It open an MS-DOS Windows but it only flashes, in less than one second it dissapears. I can't open it from command-line, eclipse and android studio.
I found several solutions like editing android.bat, find_java.bat, setting environments variables (JAVA_HOME, PATH was set and I added ANDROID_SWT and ANDROID_HOME), re-install Android Studio, update jdk version from jdk1.7.0_13 to jdk1.7.0_79. All didn't work.
Have anybody had this problem or similar? Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance.
Anybody has had this error?
