[Mod] We may have some "Volume Wake" love! Give it a try!

edit: Post 4 contains files and directions to do exactly what we wanted. Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
I'm pretty new to the Evo (coming from Nexus a week ago), one thing I just figured would be possible when switching to the Evo was the ability to wake the phone with the volume rocker. With the Nexus we had "trackball wake" and it would be nice to have a similar system level mod that would wake the phone with the volume rocker instead. Please correct my Evo-noobiness if this mod is currently available and I just didn't see it. Also, would there be any reason why this is not possible?
Disclaimer (because I know what comments are going to follow): I realize that there are apps in the market that do a similar function. I am not interested in those due to losing lockscreen, changing lockscreen, waisting battery, and overall slow-downs. a system level mod would be as quick as hitting the power button, would keep the stock lockscreen, and wouldn't waste battery.
I can't be the only one interested in this. Anyone else?
Dude you need to search.. this has already been solved.. wait no I am from the futur and this is the past shattt!
Lol just playing man I dont think this has been solved yet and thus, bump I am also interested. It really comes down to the fact that the power button is harder to hit than the volume key because of the way I hold my hand.

Here, i am still figuring out the kinks in making it just wake the phone, but with this the volume down is basically remapped to be the power button, so it will wake and put the phone to sleep, this is NOT a flashable zip, if someone wants to make one that would be awesome, let me know how this works, and as always backup first! I have also included one that make the power button volume up and the volume up set as volume down. Unzip and push these files using ADB push /system/usr/keylayout/
Please don;t use Root Explorer to copy file, after some testing it breaks the soft key functionality.
holy crap man! you are awesome. unfortunately i'm at work so can't really do all that today. will try tonight though. anyone tried yet?

Installed it and tested both myself, on CM6, but should work universally.
So has anyone tried this out that can leave a comment about whether or not it worked for you?
i tried it using root explorer but it didn't work. i rebooted after and it seems the soft keys were not working. i only tried the first file.

This has been around since the Evo came out, not new at all!
What would be news is when someone figures out how to give volume down permission to wake the phone, then we'll have something.

It appears using Root explorer to copy it causes issues, tried it by copying it and by adb pushing it and with the adb push it worked fine, but with Root Explorer it breaks the soft keys functionality.
Possible to push using the terminal app? Don't have a computer today. Wonder if this would also fix the volume for camera you gave me. Root explorer also broke my button functionality if terminal would work could you list the commands needed
BTW bmx, I just sent the donation I promised for the help on the volume key for camera you gave me. I had went back to do it but couldn't find my thread. I don't know if it got deleted or moved or what. I never did get it to work tho. Anyway thanks for the help

Thanks bud, here is the link to the old thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773057 and i just tested this with terminal emulator from the market and i kept getting cross-device errors anytime i tried to move it, but with the other files, i never used Root Explorer to move them, only ADB so it is possible this will fix the issues you where having before, and it also looks like nicholaaaas posted some signed zip files you should be able to flash, haven't tried them so backup.
Man no luck with these flashables or otherwise. Can't figure out that terminal emulator. Get access denied when I enter adb remount

You don't necessarily need to remount. Do: adb devices, as long as it recognizes ur phone, you can just do the adb push supersonic-keypad.kl

[Q] Shut down toggle switch?

Hey everyone,
First off i wanted to show my appreciation to the Dev's on this site for all your hard work, The minute I seen the HD2 I had to have it, But out of the box i was kinda let down with its UI and OS limitations, So i checked around and found this site and I've been making my phone more custom to my needs everyday, without these tweaks and mods, The phone would have most likely been returned within days. But now I'm hooked. And I'm def looking forward to seeing a 100% stable android rom so i dont have to use WMO anymore, and I know its just a matter of time. So again thanks a lot for your hard work!
With that being said, I'm relativly new to WMO and this whole customization process, I've gotten this far because of the tutorials on the site and just reading a lot, but theres still some i dont understand, But I'll ask those questions when the time comes in a whole new thread.
*NOTE: I'M ON TMOUS. ROM IS STOCK 3.14.*
The question I have is:
I just installed a cab (longpress reset) so that when i hold the endkey (red button on the far right bottom of the HD2) for a few seconds it soft resets my phone, which is awesome because my phone likes to lock up a lot and I really hate having to pull it apart and reseting it by pulling the battery or find a paper clip or something to push the reset button.
But even tho I have yet to actually turn my phone off, I feel like im going to miss the option (I no longer get the stock action screen with the turn-off phone option since i installed the said cab above.) And at this point, unless I'm missing something, I have no way to turn my phone off now.
I was looking for a - POWER OFF TOGGLE SWITCH/BUTTON - like the toggle switches that came with CHTeditor. Just a button I can place right on my home screen in my quicklinks that if i need to I can just click to power off my phone. Is there currently anything like this available? I've been looking for hours and cant find anything like it.
If not, is this something someone can put together, I would be greatly appreciative and would be happy to donate anything I could.
Thanks.
Dan

Just decide to use CHT 2.0. There you´ll find exactly the switch that restarts the phone

Thanks, But I no longer have the option to select anything when i hold my endkey, which is what i want, so when the phone freezes i can just simply restart it without taking it apart, so i'm just looking for a button (which as soon as cht 2.0 is out of beta, I guess i'll have) that i can put on my home screen for the time being, that just incase i need to i can just power off my phone with the hit of a single button.
It might be on there, but im just seeing the endkey menu thing like the one that came stock on my htc hd2.
Thanks everyone for the quick replies and help!

Yep, I found them, But when i push the "Shutdown" or "Softreset" buttons the cab installed, they just turn my screen off and lock my phone, just like when i short click my endkey. Weird.

[Q] Beond Silly Bootloader / ARHD Question.

Essentially, I can't figure out how to get into my bootloader easily without doing the old rip the battery out thing. My last AOSP ROM could do it simply from the power menu, and I'm trying to find an easier way of doing it now, but just can't find the option.
Tips?
Many thanks, XDA.

Hi,
Firstly,go to settings/power and make sure fastboot is unticked.
If you have ARHD,then you must have 4EXT.
Open the app and press "Power Menu".
This will give you a choice of things to do.
If you don't have 4EXT,then I suggest you get it.
Otherwise ,you can hold the power button, and it should give you the option to power down.
When you have done that, then power on whilst holding the "-" volume button,
and it should take you into bootloader.
Perfect!
Thanks a bunch Sir! Happy New Years to you!

How to Disable ICS bugfix/bugreport?

Hi, everyone. I always accidentally press my NS' power + volume up buttons, which activates the bugfix/bugreport email window.
Is there any way to safely disable this feature?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry to ask, but what? You mean you press them when powering up the phone? If not, could you post a screenshot?

Yes, I accidentally press them when powering on or off my NS. Try holding the power and volume up buttons. Your NS will vibrate and bring up your default email app and compose a bugfix/bugreport email for you.

Exactly what I am searching online for. I always get the sharing options appear out of nowhere and only realise that it is trying to send a bug report.
After some extended searching, I finally knew how it was activated. By pressing Volume up + Volume down + power button, you will feel a vibration after a second or so, that's when the bug reporting initiated.
http://code.google.com/p/ics-crespo...rc?r=a3b8746ae7e80de2f9db08a9e8094f6587b4b675
However, I have no idea how to disable it. It become very annoying especially when waking up the phone from sleep and you find that your device is lagging because of the bug report generation.
Any help?

Turn off USB debugging.
The solution that I've found, without turning off USB debugging, is renaming the file "bugmailer.sh" (to something like "bugmailer.sh-backup"), which is found in /system/bin.
P.S. For me, I need USB debugging turned on, because it is required by Titanium Backup, which I often use. If you don't need USB debugging turned on all the time, you could just turn it off, like Uni7 posted, and it'll also solve this issue.

You shouldn't need USB debugging for TB on any new rom. From official FAQ:
40. Why does Titanium Backup demand that the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) be enabled? I don't develop on my phone and don't want this.
The only reason is that on some ROMs, earlier versions of Superuser (the app that grants root privileges) didn't work properly if ADB (USB debugging) was disabled. This is why I added the warning at startup.
Nowadays, on most ROMs you can leave USB debugging disabled in your phone settings and also disable that warning in Titanium Backup. The option is: MENU -> Preferences -> "Warn if no USB debug".

Same here on my Galaxy Nexus...anyone eager to help us out?
I have the same problem. HELP
This is a manual bug report triggered by pressing both volume keys and the power button at the same time. It will vibrate once when you do it and then it takes a good minute or two for it to compile the report. The phone will then vibrate 3 times quickly when the report is ready, but only if the phone is awake and unlocked. So, for example, if you hit the power button to check the time and happen to press all three buttons or your TPU case (just an example) is holding down your volume buttons, then it will trigger then. You won't actually see the results until the next time you unlock the device. They are addressed to your default email address unless your ROM developer adds an email to them. Obviously being stock this would not be the case.
If you want to get rid of this feature, go to /system/bin and rename bugmailer.sh to bugmailer.sh.bak or delete it. Then reboot and no more bugmailer.

I should add that in addition to the way mentioned above that will completely disable it, disabling USB debugging should also disable it in 4.0.4.
