Hell yeah! Loved it on my WM devices, and one of the few things I truly miss about WM.
Oh wow, Steel was bought by Kolbysoft. Hopefully it will still be free.
Silverlight!?! On android. Well that would mean Netflix on my phone!!!!

yea im pretty sure i just pee'd a little after reading this
Skyfire was, IMHO, the best browser on WM... full flash support, silverlight... drools! And it was surprisingly smooth and well executed. And no need to wait for Adobe to give us flash, since they did server side processing of all the flash.

No, Steel was created by Kolbysoft, Kolbysoft was bought by Skyfire.
This looks really good... If it comes out before Opera.
Is it faster?

Yes and no... it uses server side processing, much like Opera Mini, so it loads pages faster, but until the whole page is loaded it won't display.
I think Skyfire is better than Opera by a pretty wide margin.
For those who couldn't able to download Mozilla firefox's latest beta!
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/releases/
Just go here through your web/mobile browser and find the version you want to test! and for X10 download the armv7 version or the one with the suffix r7!
the beta 4 is pretty solid and stable, but I am testing the pre beta 5 version
And for those who says it is available in the market! It isn't for everyone...
If you are running on stock SE 2.1, chances are lesser...
Note: I am not responsible if you smoke your mobile as all these versions are still in beta/pre-alpha!
Firefox in Android, great.
One question: how light is this version? Latest Firefox versions for Windows/Linux/Mac OS X are heavy and eat a lot of RAM. Hope this changes in Android.
beta 4 is still huge and takes ages to start up. I cannot remember but about 10mb for the app? It lags when you open complicated webpages.
FF lags like hell for me. I tried beta 4 for a few days. It's a great browser, but they need to lighten the load a little.....It's just too tasking for its own good! I shouldn't have to kill all my other tasks just to get webpages to load. And flash is very spotty still

I prefer Dolphin Browser Mini.. Mozilla is not done yet. :/
The market version of ff is 18mb.
Anything over 5mb otherthan a game is crap. My rule, sorry.

Skyfire is good, but Dolphin is my option!
Latest update (2.25.2011) seems much better, but I still had to take it off my phone. 14mb is too much without App2SD and everything else is sluggish since (on my phone) there's not much space left internally. I liked the Sync thing, it showed exactly what was the last pages on my desktop, but I use Chrome mostly and that syncs across computers too.
Reformatting the text still doesn't seem to work correctly.
Some jpgs were rendered poorly
confused on single/double tap to zoom, ran through preset sizes and returned to original. I suppose it works better if you have dual touch.
lag on touch, so you may "Next" twice
stable beta5 out!!

FF on the desktop is pathetic, makes me wonder why they even bother with an Android version. 14-18mb for a browser? Really? I'm confident they've included a dishwasher+coffee maker and a sauna in there.
What can it do better than Miren Browser which can do all of the above in just a little over 2mb, and with great aplomb!
Are you kidding??? FF on desktop is the ****!!! There's literally nothing better for desktop pc that FF4 beta....I dunno what you're smokin', but where I come from, we don't touch any other browser. lol
^^ haha tell me about it
There was a time when I used to be a firefox user too, but the 3.xx versions started sucking ass. I then moved to the 4.xx beta and it's a lot better than before. The sluggishness and insanely high resource usage remains though :/ and they still haven't fixed it despite ELEVEN betas and being over a year in active development. Last time I checked there's one more beta due soon, may be more after that, too
tbh i think that the stock android browser has worked best

I personally like skyfire the best. It's got partial flash which saves on battery (according to the message when it loads ) and fb is integrated into the browser...speedy as hell, too!!
If firefox would just load pages faster I'd use it exclusively...I love the fact that they have sync working finally!! I've been dying to try it, but I can't get any web pages to load at all, even on my home wifi network with 15MB cable internet lol.....and all my background apps are killed, too
if someone can port the micro b browser from maemo 5 it would be great!
that is one kick ass browser!

true that, and on the desktop, ive tried IE9, FF4, and Chrome dev.. tested them for an amount of time, and have to say chrome beats both of those, both in speed and interface..
but thats just my opinion

Latest Chrome beta is fast as a rabit after drinking coffee.
I´ve tried FF on Android and it's very very very heavy and slow... i´ve felt like trying to move a elephant with my fingers. Back to Dolphin HD.

then you are obviously doing something wrong ive been using dev chrome close to the day it came out.. only issue i had was a while back, when i couldn't scroll up a page with the mousewheel anymore.
but ok, can't really tell that i had a lot of benefit using the dev version above the stable one..
http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/12/22/google.pushes.first.nexus.s.firmware.update/
So apparently the first update for the nexus s. 2.3.1 was suppose to address the browser lag.
I've been creeping the Nexus s forum for a bit now and was wondering if the browser is as smooth as the galaxy s.
It seams like the browser when compared to the Atrix(had and returned) is a bit smoother.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm3BJ2vKpGM
What are you guys experiencing right now?
The Galaxy S browser is special, it's hardware accelerated. The NS one isn't, and thus isn't as smooth.
Do you think Google will release the same update down the road? Have they acknowledged this problem yet?
There's alternative browsers such as Dolphin Browser HD. They work fine... at least for me.
It honestly does not make sense that Google would not address the browser lag. I hope it gets addressed asap cause I love going on worldstarhiphop

Even with dolphin HD it lags. It even lags on the market website when you have the app screenshot on the page, how ironic...
The thread about black wallpapers here is impossible to scroll with NS. Disappointing and unacceptable.
No I don't think its been fixed yet. Galaxy s is a special case cause Samsung hardware accelerated it for that phone. How ironic, Samsung giving a better update over Google.
Opera !!! FLASH WORK
NO LAGG AT ALL !!!
Opera need to be ORIGINAL browser
On my side it feel somewhat slow when there is a Flash applet in the page and I try to zoom in while the page is still loading. But after that it seems to be fairly quick to respond.

Can you try www.tested.com please?
this nexus doesn't seam to be scrolling too well.

Just curious if it's his phone.
It's actually a bit choppy on Opera 11... weird. First site that I've seen that made Opera 11 slow down a lot. If you think that's bad though... try that site on the regular android browser. It's basically unresponsive lol. There's something at the top of that page that's causing the browser to bog... perhaps a bit of bad website code?

Nah it's not that bad at all. Sure it's not great, but it's quite usable.
You know what, I had the same issue with my nexus s, really bad lag, even swiping down the mobile Facebook page was stuttery. I only just had mine, and it was already rooted with natarchy's kernel on and overclocked to 1.2Ghz. Also with clockworkmod flashed. So I thought this was a deal breaker, so last night I found s method using a nandroid backup off here to flash it back to stock, relocked the bootloader, and took it upstairs to charge up, ready to take back today. Well, guess what, tried it out again while lying in bed, and on every single big site I could think of, even like engadget. Like all the YouTube browser tests it was really quick, so I thought I'd put flash back on to measure the impact it had, which was minimal. The wife has an iPhone 4 so I pinched her phone and did a side by side comparison of browser load speeds and the nexus s was constantly a bit quicker, so, take from this what you will, is it rooting?, maybe it was the governor I was using, or the kernels, but it is more than respectable now. Also, scrolling through big pages is smooth too btw.

A little off topic but is there ANY way to get an unlimitedbdata plan if you have a new account?
If not...its back to sprint and bye bye GS2 for me. Already over the 2G mark and only twobweeks in!
Thanks

For those of you who didnt know it, Firefox mobile has been available for android for a while now, but a lot of people don't know about it, so I thought I'd post it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/
It is also available for free on the Android Market https://market.android.com/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox
I just thought I'd share it here for all to enjoy it.

Probably been asked a million times, but I can't find the answer, what is the best Facebook app? I need notifications at least every half hour, full features and speed. I bought friendcaster pro last year but lately it has been buggy and unusable, and the official app hogs data and is SLOW. Any help would be much appreciated

When I had Facebook and all that I used Seesmic. A lot better than stock, doesn't hog too many resources, sync works fairly well, overall a awesome app if you hate the stock FB app.
Nevermind, can't give you a link because I don't more than 10 posts.
Goodluck, and let me know what you think! :good:

I hate Facebook stock. Wish they made a better one, but I haven't found anything that has the same/similar features.

Yep, there is. In fact, type in "facebook alternative" in the Play Store and you will see there are several. The one I currently use is FBMX - Another Facebook Client. It seems to be faster -- and more reliable -- than the stock one and does everything I need it to do. I used to use Friendcaster too, but I agree that it has gotten too buggy lately; I liked it better before it became overly popular.
