Sandisk 32 GB MicroSD available for preorder now! - Nexus One Accessories

mobilefun co uk have made this available for preorder for shipping from 20th April for £99 inc. taxes! Not bad for a new entrant I'd say.

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/sandisk-microsd-card-32gb-p20431.htm
Does that write speed class this as a class 6?

According to the SD Card Spec
http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/
Above 6MB/s is class 6

I just wish it was someone other than mobilefun...
They sold me a Motorola A780 (back when having linux on a phone was cool the first time around ) as new when it was used, and had the 2nd CD missing (making it impossible to install the GPS maps) and I found that the phone had been used (the GPS creates trail logs)...

That's just marketing. They offer it ways before it's available.
When it reaches the market, other stores will offer it, too.

Technically it does not because it uses the term "up to". Class 6 requires a minimum of 6MB/sec and when they say "minimum" they mean that it has to deliver that speed under all conditions (such as, say, as the card fills up). When the spec is quoted as "up to" then it is a maximum transfer spec and you will likely never see those speeds and they can't be used to qualify for a Class 6 rating.
Given that Sandisk's Mobile Ultra line, once the speed kings of the market, have been slowly downgraded to Class 4 and recently to Class 2 in shipping form, I wouldn't expect this card to be anything more than Class 2.

Now all we need is higher quality apps in the market.

ill pass is a class 2.

Sandisk first batch of 32gb micros is going to be class 2 only.
With other classes to follow at higher prices.

heads up on class 2 micro sdhc cards sold as class 4

a followup to an earlier post that might save others some frustraton and headaches
i had ordered a 16GB Sandisk Ultra class 4 card from KomputerBuy on amazon (Sandisk lists amazon as an authorized dealer or "a where to buy" dealer).
Their product descript showed a pix of a class 4 card - what arrived was class 2, but a different product number as the one showing class 4.
Called sandisk to see what they'd say, and the CSR did a fancy deflective word dance telling me that what the class numbers meant yada yada, but it was surreal, he would never answer directly the question "okay, are you telling me that the NEW class 2 cards are the same read/write speeds as a class 4?". and during the conversation he did ask who the vendor was, and i identified KomputerBuy and he confirmed they were an authorized vendor.
but i left that conversation looking for an aspirin bottle
contacted komputerbuy, and as someone else described, komputerbuy emailed me back responding that "sandisk had a problem earlier with stenciling the wrong class number on their cards".
I took issue with that indicating: 1) customers should be advised of this BEFORE they've processed the order, 2) that description does not reconcile with the fact that the product ordered and the product received had different model numbers, so there was an unauthorized subsitution and 3) when i tested the write speeds, it was approximately 1/3rd slower than class 4s (ie write spd was 5.1MB a second)
now i'm dealing with their attempt to charge me "shipping and handling charges".
i went out and found an 8GB class 4 card at MacMall (also a Sandisk recommended dealer) - i actually called them, asked them to confirm it was a class 4 card, salesman went and picked it up, had it in his hand and said "yes, it's a class 4"
price was suspiciously low ($27) considering the memory card shortage that apparently exists in the industry
well, it came in today - its a class 2 as well
this time, the model number on the card is the same as the one on their website, so there was no product substitution, but having a second seller describe it as class 4 ("in his hand") coupled with Sandisk's deflective obsfuscating answer, tells me there's a shortage of class 4 sandisk mem cards, and sandisk is coordinating, suggesting, motivating sellers to distort product descriptions to move class 2 cards out.
personally, i still want a sandisk card, but will now buy it in a store, with the frigging card in hand
in case anyone thinks i'm smoking home rolled cigarettes, i've got some shots posted at http://s816.photobucket.com/albums/zz81/vze86qtl/8GB Sandisk class 2/, including a shot of the unopened packaging, a closeup of the card, a shot of the pkging model number and a copy of the vendor's web description
as an aside, newegg.com, who i trust (bought quite a bit from them), on their web indicate 10/22/2010 for expected delivery of 16GB Ultra cards (there's no guarantee they'll be class 4, but hopefully)
If you look here Got Sandisk ultra 16GB Class 2 instead of class 4!!.
The same thing happened to me, i returned the product and got the full refund, and picked another one with the "SDSDQY-016G-A11M" from amazon itself to be sure, good it's really (4) with the same serial but tagged at the back of package "Class 2" here was i think the truth about what KomputerBuy told me "Sandisk misprinted the class number"!. okay missing one tag not all the product with class 2 tags from the card it self to the serial and the package!!
the fact was the card with "E11M" is Class 2 not 4.
so you have received the new one, and it is stenciled as a class 4 on the card itself?
have you tested it on write speeds? -
I returned it, and buy another one, from Amazon direct with the code "A11M" (4).
And yes I tested the write speed and it was 14~ 15MB and 19~20MB in read using crystal disk mark.

Interesting.......... from wiki.......
The following are the ratings of some currently available cards:
Class 2: 2 MB/s
Class 4: 4 MB/s
Class 6: 6 MB/s
Class 10: 10 MB/s
I have a class 4 (but it is just a generic/no brand one) and it matches the 4MB/s.
Do really get those speeds? If so I may stump up the cash for 'premium' brand.
If it is of any use I have attached a program that I use to rest with. Best done on a new card with no DATA or an old one with data backed up and card wiped. It will verify size and speed. As with anything please run this through your virus checkers first although mine have shown it to be clean and I have used it successfully myself. No install just save to desktop and double click.K.
I think wiki is wrong, as I know that the fastest sd card (class 10), is the same speed as the slowest compact flash cards used in cameras which is 30mbs

Quoting Sandisk:
The SD Speed Class Ratings specify a minimum sustained write speed for SDHC/miniSDHC/microSDHC cards (Class 2: 2 MB/s; Class 4: 4 MB/s; Class 6: 6 MB/s*).
*1 megabyte (MB) = 1 million bytes; 1 gigabyte (GB) = 1 billion bytes.

Technically speaking you are getting Class 4 speeds, but having said that, my Sandisk Class 2 , 16GB card can reach write speeds of up to 10MB/s when copying files over USB. I just tested by copying a 600MB movie using a micro SD card adaptor, it took 58 seconds meaning an average speed of 10.34MB/s. Read speed is around 17MB/s. I bought this card last year. Don't have the packaging anymore, so cant confirm the product code.
EDIT: I also have a spare Class 2, 8GB Card which i got bundled with my Previous Nokia 5800, Not sure who the original manufacturer is, because it only says Nokia 8GB Class 2. Did the same test and got 5.2MB/s write and 12MB/s read speeds. I'm not sure about the exact speed ratings, Sandisk and many others web sites say Class number corresponds to the minimum sustained write speed, maybe if I copy a combination of large and small files filling up the entire disk , I might get lower write speeds. but right now I get more than dowuble of what the minimum guaranteed write speed. Perhaps the key point here is not the average or maximum speed, rather the Minimum sustained write speed, which means at no time it should drop below the specified speed (which might cause problems for apps like video recording) but I can't find any official documentation specifying the average or maximum write / read speeds...

FIND TURNED REVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 32 GB Micro SD... Good Find???

So, after having found these and purchased the Sandisk I found that its performance was lackluster. It ran slower than my 16 gb Dan-Elec. Reading and writing. I wound up returning it and purchasing the Dan-Elec 32gb today. Lo and behold the read and write times are faster. Plus an extra 5 years on the warrenty. Very surprising. A class 4 Sandisk .vs a class 2 semi unknown. Unknown wins!!! I am very happy.
These are the least expensive options I have found to date. With the new options in development is it recommended to get the class 4? Besides running apps, there is no difference.
The 720p video, from what I have heard and from personal experience on my class 2 16 gig, is the same for playback.

I would go with the SanDisk Class 4.
A couple things to remember, the class number is an indication of the MINIMUM write speed that the card is capable of. In my experience, SanDisk cards typically out perform their class on a regular basis.
A higher write/read speed is nice but not sure where to draw the line as far as 'overkill' is concerned.
IMO, a class 4 card is just fine. I don't think the extra speed makes that big of a difference.

I think you are correct, especially after reading this in a similar thread------------------->http://www.bunniestudios.com/blog/?p=918
I saw a benchmark test video on digital cameras showing that a Class 2 Sandisk SD Card was clearly faster than Class 4 SD cards from other brands.
Personally I've found that Samsung cards perform best for me - that means speed above their rated class, and more importantly I've NEVER had a Samsung card corrupt on me.
I won't use any other brand now (and most other brands are just Samsung or Sandisk cast-offs, rebranded). My data and my time is too important. I'd sooner use a class 4 or 6 Samsung than a class 10 anything else, and I guarantee you it would read/write just as quick.
EDIT: This love for Samsung only extends to their SD cards - they can stick their phones up their ***es!

Where to find them though?
i have a class 10 16gb but honestly i do not see anything "upgraded" from the stock class 2 8gb. I do not store my apps on SD (YET) so maybe that would be improved when the time comes. Also i was hoping when you open your picture gallery the image would load up more clear but faster but nope still the same. I think get the cheapest one and run with it.

Good choice, anything greater than class 6 is wasted on the phone, even with "HD" recording capability.
As for brand, Sandisk has always made reputable products, and they stand by their products, should anything go wrong.
I'm looking forward to getting my 36GB 4 class soon...

[Q] Micro SD card 32gb class6

Hi
Know there is a 1000 topics on this already, but couldn't find any answer in any of them for my question.
Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 32GB class6 or higher microSD card?
I can't find a single one on google, ebay, amazon, bestbuy or pricewatch...
I can see that Kingston makes them on there homepage, but I can't find anywhere to buy them :S
Found this one, put it seems that it is only class4, which I can tell from the picture, even though the text says otherwise
http://www.dhgate.com/new-kinston-3...ard/r-ff8080812ca0db81012cc85e38b35dd7.html#1
I need class6 at least for 1080p video recording, so no need to suggets lower class
thansk in advance
I don't know whether the answer is not too late
Can use the other instead?

Why not open? Out what the problem?
Why not open? Out what the problem?
They are indeed available. I just bought one on BUY dot com (but cannot post link). It is a 3C brand, class 6 (3C is made by TopRam, and I've done well with them in the past)
BTW, word of advice: whenever you buy a new SD/microSD/USB/etc and as soon as you receive it ALWAYS run a Write-test using h2TestW tool. This way you can tell right away if the card is
a) defective
b) meeting or exceeding the rated speed
c) a "faked-capacity" counterfeit :-o
Any of the above, you get your money back!
Early theme, right?

i have a better question... what can you do with 32gb that you cant do with 16?
also, if you are looking for a class 10... i have a class 10 PNY in my evo 3d. but it is a 16. ridiculously smooth and fast. the transfer rate is well over what a class 10 should be.
i bought it at best buy for 60 bucks. don't know where you are located, but where i am there is a Fry's electronics close to me, and when i was shopping around they had a few class 10 32 gigs... wasn't familiar with the brand, though, so i chose a smaller one that i knew would work flawlessly.
hope that helped
why direct buy the class 10 ?
32GB, I feel a little big
32GB, I feel a little big
From for smooth read/write,
8gb class 4
16gb class 6
32gb class 10
There are many now class 4,6,10.

Sandisk 32GB too slow!

Just purchased 32GB Sandisk micro SD. To my knowledge Sandisk has only one 32GB micro SD card and it's a class 2. I have had same, but in 8GB capacity. From time to time I copy/backup folders to external SD: Navionics, Epocrates, and TitaniumBackup...up to 460MB. On 8GB it would take a minute or two each, but with new 32GB it takes forever. Both class 2; same manufacturer, but smaller one much faster. Any suggestions?
Infusion of Android
Class it up! Try a class 4 or 6.
nvm: I read later that you mentioned you get a faster speed on a Class 2 8gig than on a Class 2 32 gig. I just need coffee. Ignore my comment
I have a Sandisk 32gb Class 2... and it's slooooow. So I tried a 32GB Class 4, and it's still equally slow. I'm beginning to think it's the device, not the memory card. I'm getting annoyed with how much just having a memory card in the slot slows down the phone. I may just tolerate the internal 16gb and stop using an "external SD" because it's gotten super annoying waiting for it to scan all the time.
I have an adata class 4 32gb and its pretty good copying to and from. I got it from a quality retailer. If you didnt get it from a quality retailer, TEST it with h2testw app on the pc and make sure its real. It will take a long time to test it. Writing will go quick and you wont see any errors, but reading and verifying the writen data will take a lot longer and thats where the errors will show if its truly not a legitimate card.
I got a couple of fakes off ebay that i got refunded for, but these people sell thousands of these things on there and alot of people get fooled because they seem to work fine, UNTIL down the road when you cant read the data and lose a ton of stuff.
If you test it and get no errors on the reading side, you got a slow card and thats all there is to it. Its not the phone becuase it works fine with cards for most everyone. Not many complaints showing up

Correction. It's a Class 4 that I bought from Staples.
Sandisk technical chat was a joke and commented:"Well there is no guaranteed read and write speed. Still you can try formatting it with a tool called HP Tool"
My response:"Your comment could be construed as a copout. I believe everyone should have the guarantee that when same manufacturer produces a product and one is classed to have double the transfer capability ...... it should perform as such"
Sandisk chat :"I understand but we do not have any read and write speed on micro SDHC card"

Kudos to you for challenging them... Unfortunately the world is becoming more and more of a marketing-reality. Something can be marketed as anything. AT&T decided they'd rather call their 3G a "4G network" rather than update to 4G... Sandisk decided to call their Class 4 a "Class 4" without any sort of technical evidence of it complying with the standard... and who's going to stand up to them, just like who's going to stand up to AT&T? Very sad state we've gotten to.

Does PNY make Class 10 16 or 32gb cards? In searching on Amazon 32gb Micro SD Class 10, I'm seeing Lexar, and Patriot. The Patriot gets mediocre reviews saying that it dies frequently, and is incompatible with many devices. I'm thinking of buying the Lexar, but I still haven't seen anyone post any better read\write speeds, so I'm wondering if the Samsung can even read\write faster than class 4.

Wanting to buy @ Amazon... I have $300 in gift cards on Amazon, so need something I can order from them. Not a fan of Newegg as they charge Tax in CA, and their "standard" shipping is slooooow (up to 10 days the last couple orders). Use coupon code EMCJKJJ45 to bring it down to $55. Pretty decent price for a class 10 chip from a known manufacturer.
Edit: Varying write benchmarks on Newegg and Amazon. Some are hitting class 10 speeds, some aren't. YMMV.
Awesome! Thanks for 2sharing
Just be careful and make sure its genuine, I have heard a lot of stuff about fake cards claiming to be class 10.
Whereas if you go for a good brand it might actually perform better.
I have a sandisk, 32gb, class 4, and i have 20 gb of music of my sensation, it works perfectly, better then my ipod touch! So I wouldnt pay much attention to the class but more to the quality of the card.
Granted the write speed is slow, took me a long time to get the 20gb of music on, but reading speed is somewhere around 10 to 16 mbps, and thats from a class 4!
This one is legit- got suckered in some ebay buys of fake cards, went ahead and bought this one a while back from NewEgg and never looked back. PNY is a good brand. I use this one currently and have had no issues .
Ordered one...
I put in my order at Newegg this morning. Coupon code worked. Unfortunately, since I live in California, I had to pay sales tax so it cost me $3.99 extra
Yep, I bought this card from newegg. It is legit!

I got the email promotion and bought it as soon as I saw it lol. Got it in the mail yesterday. Noticable space and performance improvement from the stock 8 gb card. Everything that is on the sd card loads much faster now. This card may not be a high end class 10 card but it is that of a high end class 6 card which should be good enough for phone usage. You will be able to record hd with this card just fine. I've been waiting for it to be instock and on sale since the day i have my Sensation lol. Gotta love new egg.
How can i buy this card from Europe ? The Newegg don't send to Europe.
later edit: meantime i bought from Amazon, they send to Europe
Good price, thanks for shared
Unfortunately my stock 8gb card died. Contemplating between this or the 16gb class 10.
This one (DMY 32GB class 10), at this price, is fantastic. I already put it in my Sensation and the phone is flying (like a pig) with 32 GB. My laptop geting jealous. I warmly recommend it !
I have a 16gb PNY in my Sensation and I have to say I am disappointed with the performance of a so called class 10 card. SD Tools reports write speeds of <8MB/s which is no better than the 8GB Kingston class 4 (though seems to be under rated) that come bundled with the Sensation. Alarmingly, that falls below the 10MB/s minimum for a class 10.
Is SD Tools a reliable app?

Test the card on a computer instead.

Is the rating for read or write? I have a Patriot 16GB C10 that gets 8.6MB write and 19.4MB read.

I think my ancient card reader might hinder things though saying that it's USB 2.0 so will see how it goes thanks.

Rating is for write speeds. 10MB/s should be minimum, PNY packaging states up to 15MB.
