[APP] New ADB App not yet in the Market - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Created by Dror Becker. He's worked really hard and it works great. This app is an easy way to use adb. All you have to do is install the apk and follow the instructions.
I've been using this all day and it changed my life.

Um, what does it do exactly?
P

Great app, now I can watch .mkv files

sorry guys
I'm still non the wiser. What exactly does this wonderful app do?

Seriously what's this app?

Is it not obvious from the OP? Your battery will last 3x longer. Or more.

all is not very conclusive 2GHZ overclock? WHAT?
3 hours more battery? WHY?
a little more light on what it does or close the thread... sorry

Guys, this video should help http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pk6gvBPMa4

200 MB more RAM????
and the last twitter message (if you click on the link follow on twitter) says "you have to pull the battery after it has done its work to finish it"...
seriously, that doesn't sound healthy at all.... besides, if you just understand which buttons to press simultaneously (e.g. power while holding volume down to go into bootloader, etc.), you NEVER have to pull the battery....

I'm not really sure how long you've been around, but I wouldn't just suggest crap.
Some of the other reports of features are incorrect, but this app definitely makes using ADB much easier for you. You don't even need a computer.

@the dude of life.
pls. enlighten us, what's this app do then?

I use Reboot Control Widget and it works great for me!
It has several options:
Reboot Handset
Power Down
Recovery Console
Boot Loader
Wipe Handset
All work 100% of the time.
Root Required as with any reboot or power down command.
QuickBoot

Glad someone else sees it my way as well.
I could never understand why people get an app for a one step improvement...especially when it's already made so simple by the manufacturer.

quickboot however offer 2-click (1 open app, 1 choose option) access to "reboot" "reboot to recovery" "reboot to bootloader".

Quick Boot is a whopping 29kb installed and is easier to use despite what some members think. Wasted space is space unused.

Well I for one love it, saves a lot of wear and tear on the buttons on my phone. Anything that will save the wear and tear on my phone is imo a good thing. I don't know why people would want to hit all the buttons to do a reboot, enter recovery and so on its a pain in the butt.

So far, saving wear on the button is the best argument I've heard regarding such an app. That makes more sense... although I'd call HTC and get it repaired if that happened, which I doubt as the buttons seem durable enough. Anyway, your points are well-taken, but humbly disagreed with.

For real. Got mine just an hour or so ago. It is so much better then the hacked version. Auto caps ftw.

It doesn't have a voice-input button on it, does it? If not, that's a deal breaker for me.

I am the Senior QA Engineer at Swype. A voice-input button is a sorely missing feature for us too. We are looking at what it would take for us to integrate a feature like that, but we don't have any time frame for when that might happen yet. If you would like to see that feature developed more quickly, please give us feedback on the Swype Forums.

i received the email and clicked the link from my phone but it doesn't recognize my device as an Android device. is this because i'm not using the Stock Nexus One ROM (e.g., i'm using a custom ROM)? thanks in advance for your answer.
Oh they made typing in landscape easier... Or more so better. I like it, and I never exactly hated it either.
Oh it seems they made typing without swyping easier altogether, I typed this entire post with swype. Good job! Loveee it..

So typing normally is better on Swype than on the original Android keyboard?

We're working to improve that experience as well, but for obvious reasons, we tend to focus most of our efforts on Swypeability.

I dont know if my opinion will matter, but im typing in landscape with very minimal mistakes, without even having to Swype! Im gonna go off a limb here and say this is definetly better the stock keyboard.
The bad thing is though, it doesn't have auto correction with just normally typing.. (big downer) but the accuracy is so good it can kinda be rarely needed. I believe that still should have been an inclusion.. Though.
Edit: yes it does looked in settings.. Lol

[NO ROOT][DEV] IncredibleTorch

I've been working on a flashlight app for non-rooted phones. I have been able to recreate the one that costs $0.99 (I think? I'm not exactly sure, I don't own it.). Sadly, I have the same flaw. I can't get it to exit correctly, so you have to reboot. I'm still working on it, and haven't quite given up (although I think I have concluded this exploits a higher level bug that I just can't control).
6/17/10 - I think I've concluded there is no way to shut it off. I believe this is a bug in the camera software that allows this to happen. A method just hangs forever. (All of this is I think ) Sorry guys, you probably wont see anything better (w/o root).

Wow. Good job dude. I know its finicky but you usually only need the flash light to stay on. Oh well on the reboot to turn off. You'll figure it out. Really good job man.

Woo hoo, at least one person likes it! I've only gotten put down or no replies elsewhere. haha
I know this isn't fantastic or anything, but it's better than nothing in my eyes.
anything that helps the community is always appreciated. So ty very mucho
Yea I tried the same thing. Stuck at the exact same problem.
I am by no means an expert Android dev, but I have tons of .NET experience. I used the example in the SDK, then just added the parameters to turn on the LED when taking a picture. Then it freezes and it goes to hell from there.
I tried threading/etc. No luck, I stopped working on it. Plus now there is the root, so why not just do that and use the Lamppu Application.
Thanks for trying anyways
That's exactly where I am! takePicture just freezes after a few pictures I believe. I also tried threading, no luck.
But I don't have .NET experience, I'm just a noob.
Yeah, I know now there's root Lamppu is better, but I'm personally not rooted. I figured I'd just release it because no one else has except the guy who is trying to sell it... which is just rude lol.
werd ~!~ 10 more
thanks for trying on the app though! it just confirms that I need to get root on me phone! I dont know why ppl would bash your for contributing..fail/succeed..we all benefit. It's only from attempts that we learn how things work..im sure anyone in root dev can confirm that!

I am done with it but I have one more question. Is there an option when you boot the phone with another carriers SIM to go in NO SIM mode if you are not unlocked?
I can't test this because I am already unlocked. Also if anyone would like to test my app that would be great.

It will be good for us, thanks!
When you get around to posting battery life screenshots can you make sure to post screen on time, brightness level, and what you used the phone for so that the number are more meaningful.
Nah, is normal
Yeah sorry I hadnt had a chance to get on XDA and respond. Battery life to be complete honest I am demoing the device 24/7 and so far on hard usage i'm getting 6-7 hours. But thats with the phone on full brightness and pushing the phone to its limits. Tomorrow I will be able to provide accurate battery life i will a free day and will be able to see how long it last without demoing it all the time.
I will so provide screen shots of my battery from yesterday and a screen shot from today.
Thanks for putting in contact with the right people I will contact them and do a system dump and hopefully get this started.
Maybe you can post sot time
Can you upload its Firmware? So we can extract some interesting stuff?
thanks
Yeah, screen on time (SOT) is the only battery metric that means anything to me.

You guys are so wrong on that one.
SOT is probably the worst way to tell a phones battery life.
Were Bluetooth, Locations and other things on? Screen brightness? What apps installed? What was on the screen? A web page? Gaming? (remember this is amoled and darks are easier than whites too).
This really needs to stop because it seems to have spread to a point where more and more people are calling this a metric when it's not.
There are way too many unknown factors that will greatly effect SOT.
He right. We need all the info not just SOT.
