Request: Frequently Called Widget - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I was thinking it's be pretty slick to have a widget that displays your frequent calls on the home screen like the tab inside dialer, something that updates as your calls change, doesn't seem like it would be terribly difficult to code.

does something like this possibly exist already?

I know of a way to create a folder with favorite callers.....but not a widget
in contacts long press on contact place them in favorites.
long press homscreen create a folder pick starred contacts.

I was actually talking about the "frequently callerd" under the favorites. Those are changing all the time, so it'd be slick if you could have a widget that auto updates as well.

Help Return the Note Button

One of the things I have always liked about the HTC products (at least on AT&T) is the Note button that is visible when you end a call. When you push it, it brings up a note using a special template that fills in the date & time of the call as well as caller information. Sadly, this has been removed from the TF3D call screens.
I know that with Diamond Tweak, you can set the Fuze to use the AT&T (HTC) default which brings back the Note button (as well as on-screen talk and end buttons). Unfortunately, when you do this, you no longer get the large, friendly caller ID screen. All you get is the popup at the bottom.
If someone knows how to get to the Notes call log template from the TF3D call screen(s), please let me know. Or perhaps one of the developers out there can find a way to create a new skin to incorporate the Note button (and maybe bring back the onscreen talk button).
Thanks,
Joe
How about removing the stylus during the call? The default setting is to launch the Notes app with all the call info pre-filled.

True, but it JUST launches the Notes app and doesn't launch the template. I went there already. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Mine does launch the template with the various fields filled in (and even puts it into a separate folder named "Calls") when I remove the stylus.

I don't know why but the first time I tried that it just opened a regular note. Seems to be working as you say now. I'd still like the button since I don't scribble notes, I type them.
For the time being, I'm switched back to the WinMo dial pad. I have a cab file that skins that dial pad on the older HTCs to make bigger buttons. I may try it out on this one and see what happens. Still doesn't get me the large, friendly caller ID.

cleanest way to get notification icons

what is the best way to show missed calls \ sms etc in the home page. or in the notification toolbar
the less stuff I need to install around it, the better
I would prefer not install max manilla really.
and if I had to, then I dont want it to change the look on my HD2
regards
Just use Co0kie's Home tab it shows missed called etc with minimal change of the homescreen, use the search function to find the thread hope this helps ^^
it increase number of shortcus (makes them smaller).
also it changes few things in the layout which i dont like much

You can turn off all the things that change the layout so that it looks exactly the same as default. Everything in Co0kie's home tab is optional.
I dont have notification in the top bar,
it would be nice if I can see all the changes in one place really, ideally the lock screen but I dont want S2U2.
I could not find a way to revert cookie home tab to 3x3

Sorry mate - my bad. The next release, which is imminent, will have 3x3 back, as well as number of quicklink pages, so you don't have to have the left and right ones (if you don't want them).
so there is no easy way to see
missed calls\ new sms
in convenient one location?

Organizing Apps in folders ?

Hey people, i have been looking under tree and rock to finde some sort of way to organize Apps in to folders, in the main menu. With no luck so far.
I am i just blind and stupid or have Android made the same mistake as apple did with no way of organizing applications (albiet, appels problem is a bit bigger than Android's).
Anything to help me keep my Main Menu Organized ??
Kind Regards
Vicster!

"main menu" being application launcher drawer/cube? Or home screen?
Stock application launcher drawer/cube doesn't have the option, and I fail to see why anyone would need such an option, given that -
1) Home screen supports folders.
2) There are plenty of apps that allow grouping applications in "folders" of some kind (virtual ones) on the home screen.
Your "main menu" is the home screen(s), not the application drawer.
How about 'Apps Organizer' from the market.
- You can set up categories
- Apps can be in multiple categories
- Assign custom or predefined icons to these
- Both widget and shortcut support to put these categories on your home screens
- Fave apps so they stick to the top in the folders
- Optionally have all folders/categories as subfolder from 1 main folder. Now that cleans up everything into a single icon.
It's a lifesaver if you use a ton of apps and want to stay organized imho.
nice apps organizer
for me it has been FolderOrganizer by Fabio Collini for quite some time...
After trying every app organizer I could find I settled on "tag home" to fix this problem. You can create tabs in the launcher, sort the apps by tab, prioritize the items in the tab sort them, have an app under multiple tabs, (easier than remembering if gmail is in internet or communication) and you can shortcut the tags onto the desktop as folders. plus, it's free in the market.
Just my 2 cents, and that's about all my advice is worth....

I am also looking for an efficent solution! But i think we have to wait until apple releases its OS4.0, which will be able to organize apps.
Then suddenly there will be apps developed for android who do the same thing. Its sad, that it has to be this way...

Why would you think that? There was Advanced Launcher for 1.6 that did this, and many home alternatives that do this. It's harder for rosie because it is closed source.
PS. You can make a folder on the home screen for a long time and dump applications into it, just like the magical iPhone can't do yet.

Advanced Launcher doesnt work at all.
Does Rosie mean Sense? (Sorry i just got my first android device)
I didnt find a decend Homescreen replacement that has this feature. Only Tag Home Launcher, but this app slows my phone down (very noticeable!).
The Replacements, which worked fine (for example ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro), didnt have the ability to sort apps in the draer/starmenu...
If you could point me to an working replacement I would be happy!!!
But, coming from windows mobile my experience is: nothing new is developed until apple does it and then sudenly the market is flooded with apps, that do this. ( I was looking for more finger usability since Windows Mobile 2003SE ^^). Of course there are few exceptions...
But please proove me wrong!
About the ability to create folders on the homescreen: I know this ability exists! But in my opinion one big advantage of android is the widgets on the homescreen. I like my homescreen to show me the time, my appointments, the weather...
For launching purpose i would like a simple menu with all my apps (categorizeed, sorted the way i want it )
the way I see it: the iphone has no homescreen it only has a launcher. But soon this launcher will get better than the one from android (now they are equally bad^^) and that is when i think apps will be released to overcome this differnce. But it should be the other way around...
But again: please proove me wrong!

So until I find the perfect solution I'm using the folders created for the on-screen but I'd like to be able to rename the folders. As an Android n00b is that possible?

To change the folder name:
-Open the folder.
-Touch and hold the bar at the top of the folder.
This should give you the "Rename folder" dialog box.
Good luck.
You my friends are the greatest!

Contacts app or widget

I like how I can make a shortcut of a certain person on your homescreen, but I don't like how I can rename it on the homescreen. For instance...my home phone and wife's cell is under one contact, so when I make the shortcut they both say the same thing. So I'm curious if there's an app or widget that would keep the similar style but allow me to rename it on the homescreen.
file this in the 1 of 2 things that do not exist for some unknown reason.
A good contact widget and a google voice widget are just non existent, IMO. I am not a developer in the least, so I think we are stuck wishing or settling for apps like:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/br.livroandroid.widget.contatos
I think it does what you want, sort of, but it just doesn't "LOOK GOOD"
This one looks better, but still not what I was wanting....
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.phonepony.frequentcontacts
Maybe?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.moxier.swiftcontacts
Or you can just buy Launcher Pro, as it comes with an awesome contact widget (same as HTC Sense basically).
There was a "contact widget" that is very similar to this and I don't like it. Just looking for something that shows the profile pic and I can rename to "Home" or "Wife's Cell" instead of two instances of "Wife"
BetterCut solution?
You can do this with BetterCut ($1.99 in the market)... you can set up a direct dial shortcut and select wife cell # change the label to whatever you want, e.g. "wife cell" or "wife work", and choose an icon for it including a photo you've taken (make sure you crop the photo you want square first or it will distort when used as the icon)...
What I am not sure of is if there is anyway to tie it too the friendstream facebook or G-mail icon though...
Hope this helps you though
PS... anyone know how many posts I need in order to link or avoid the 5 min between post n00b restrictions? Obviously I can search for this too, just curious.
I just came across this. Thanks!!

I have never found an answer to this question, but I think it's actually a forum-wide rule, perhaps to prevent server overload. I still have search restrictions. For me, it just gives me time to review all of my results.

Edit Favorite Apps missing apps

Anyone else figure out how to add apps that are missing from the choices of apps to use when you edit the favorite apps for the edge?
I cannot find Calendar app which I use often.

It's there on mine...well sort of. Here are the steps on how I got to mine and other "missing" apps.
1. Go to the edge setup screen and choose Manage Panels then click the "pencil" in the favorites panel
2. look on your favorites edge for a folder with multiple apps. You may have to scroll vertically on the edge to get to it. Then click on it.
3. Select "Open Folder" and your calendar should be there. you can click the "minus" sign on any of the apps in teh folder and it will place them back into the main Favorites page. From there you can drag and drop the calendar icon into your favorites panel.
There's also an S-Panel Edge you can download from your manage Edge panels screen that will allow you to see your tasks and get to your calendar.
ricerx that was it! Because it was in a folder it would not let me put into the side. You are the man! Thank you.
How do you edit the second fav panel? There is no edit pencil icon on that. This is an AT&T version. The first panel I can edit but second I have no clue how I do that.
I have exactly the same issue with the T-Mobile version.

I have the exact same problem, but with the T-Mobile version SM-N915T. The favorites star at the top of the second favorites panel which, when pressed, pulls up the favorites list and allows one to alter the app list, is not selectable. Works fine on the first favorites panel, but not the second. Curiously, the second favorites panel's star is not solid (only outlined) whereas the first panel's is solid (filled). Anybody have a fix?

Every model of this phone comes with a carrier specific panel next to the favorites panel that is locked to either carrier-branded or carrier-promoted apps. This can't be changed. I'm sure someone will figure out a mod though.

There is a calendar edge screen app you can download from Samsung. That will give you quick access and a quick glance at your days events.
some games not showing
I'm still having this problem, I have a few game apps that aren not in folders and aren't showing or selection in the favorite applications selection screen
