XDA Zinc couple of questions

Firstly, what's happening with the forum on Asus models? I can't see any folders for the Zinc or Graphite (not sure what the codenames would be Marss II for Zinc).
Secondly, anyone got any idea what the Zinc case is like ? I've just lost my Minis S (Wizard) case and I won't replace it if the Zinc one is any good. If not, I'll get one that should fit both now.
AdvThanksance, DBo.
think this forum is only about HTC devices
and since xda == o2 dont use HTC devices anymore
the name may be a bit misleading
Hmmmm
Thanks for the reply.
I thought this was an xda developers forum though, not an HTC forum.
I can undersatnd if it is diverging people might not want to go down that route, but I thought it was a community for xda developers of all persuasions.
Ho hum.
diff manufactors do things very different when it comes to upgrading and such
so now that xda's can be any flavour of OEM and not just htc
the range of flashing tools and 3th party programs and drivers become more complex
I think there has to be a section for the Zinc as it is going to be very popular. Same for the Graphite.

In need of a HTC Touch Dual Forum

Well, the topic says everything!
The Touch Dual is comparable to the regular Touch by software,
but the hardware infrastructure is "completely" different!
Thanks,
I agree, I am getting 2 Duals tomorrow and thought this place would have a Touch Dual forum by now.
Mine could arrive tomorrow also and one guy in the Touch forum claims back the forum for Touch only, and asked us to nag in general forums...
So, nice to see a Polaris forum, although Polaris will ship in January; but none for Dual, which is shipping for some time.
I understand the problem with Time, Space, Money etc; on the other hand, we do not want to bother the "regular" Touch owners with discussions about hardware, they do not own and getting them bad feelings reading about UMTS issues and stuff, which they will never get in their ppc...
So, for freedom, peace and happiness:
Please get us a subforum for Touch Dual. If you need more mod's for this, why not letting us know in this very thread?
Thanks!
we
btw: There are even more Threads about getting a forum for Touch Dual around.
I'm getting my Touch Dual tomorrow and would love to have a dedicated forum to be able to discuss it.. without annoying the 'touch' users!

I agree! I've already posted several times at Elf upgrading thread requesting that we get our own forum but seems to me it's falling on deaf ears!! I guess we touch dual owners are the black sheep, is it because the phone is not as geeky as Kaiser i.e. no GPS, Wifi, 3m camera, everything but the kitchen sink etc....
Well then, looks like, huh?
Read my lips...
we

Just to remind you all the touch dual codename : it is HTC NIKE!
As a newbie to the world of pocket pcs I would alsp like to add my vote for a specific touch dual/nike forum
there are several threads requisting a forum for dual (htc nike)... no response from admin

we need a forum for touch dual please, the touch section is a mess!
Seems to me the Moderators are really taking the biscuit!! Either because they think HTC Nike is not geeky enough i.e. it doesn't have every feature under the sun or they are just classing it as the Elf which is silly if you ask me.
Come on Mods please wake up and smell the coffee!!!

Suggetion of new section for Samsung i780

Hi guys
as you all know , samsung i780 is one of the most powerful pda with a slick design , it grabs your attention even if you hate samsung company, its really a special pda
so my suggestion is why we dont make a separate thread for this device, a thread that has sub threads like general , upgrading and roms hacking, accessories and FAQ, like the one for tytn II or touch curise
so what all of you think ?
thank and best regards,

Seems that this phone is selling very well, at least in europe.
A dedicated room makes absolutely sense.
I would
also love that ! Just stopped using my Tytn II and is using my new i780 as my primary device - the Tytn II is in the drawer. But I love XDA so I would love to have a i780 section event though it aint an HTC phone
thank guys
lets hope we get separate section for samsung i780
would be cool but i gues all owner of this phone think so
I completely agree, finding infor on the i780 is pretty difficult and it would make things easier to make a special topic for it. I have been using the i780 for two weeks now.

It would be nice to have a section dedicated to the Samsung i780!!!
I hope.
Thanks
Agree with everyone !!! Since i780 is the first 320 X 320 device. New section will help everyone to discuss in future...........
I'm agree too
This phone is one of the best on WM...
Thank you all guys (dariog78, harrisoon and sebastientoussaint)
it seems there are alot of people who are interested on this device ,therefore a new section is really needed for this device.
I jst traded in my HTC Hermes for a new Samsung i780 and loving it. It would be nice to be able to share all the tips and tricks with other people.
Thanks!
seems like i780 is a very popular phone..
I agree, the I780 must have it's own home. I have a herald, but when I got my hands on this baby, wow nothing like it. We should start to encourage developers for this new kind of screen.
While I have no doubt that the Samsung i780 is a good phone I must say that it should NOT get its own section here.
On the Main Page you will see this....

Welcome to xda-developers.com
This site is about certain PDA-phones, made by a firm called HTC in Taiwan. Their makers named them 'Wallaby', 'Himalaya', 'Blue Angel', 'Wizard' and 'TyTN', but almost nobody knows them by those names. The mobile provider O2 sells them under the brand-name 'XDA', and that's what we had in our hands first. They're also known as Qtek, MDA, SX-56, Hermes and many, many other names.

So Unless I missed something in my search, The Samsung device is not made by HTC. I'm all for there being a Developers Forum for a Samsung Device. If I had some web hosting space left I'd offer to host it. However this is an HTC site and I think it should be kept that way.

but as you can see in the devices section, there are sections for HP ipaq and Palm Treo 750, and from my knowlege HP ipaq and palm treo 750 are not htc devices therefore we dont see any problem to have a section for samsung i780 since the hp ipaq and palm treo 750 had, also the samsung i780 is a special case because the resolution of its display is 320*320 which means it will has its own programs and games, thats why it is important to have a section specially for this device
@AbdullahT
HTC is the manufacturer of the Treo 750 and several HP iPaq smartphones. So it's normal that they have their place on the XDA-forum.
@JimmyMcGee
While I agree with you that this forum is all about developing for HTC manufactured devices I still think the i780 should have it's own place here on this forum. First of all, this site has been created in order to port Linux to the XDA. That aspect got somewhere sort of lost, since this forum talks more about porting the latest Windows Mobile versions to older devices and writing Windows Mobile software to enhance the experience with Windows Mobile devices then porting Linux to HTC devices. So this forum has evolved and I can't see why it couldn't evolve into a forum that also talks about other then HTC manufactured smartphones.
Personally I would welcome a dedicated i780 section. It would make finding information about tweaking the i780 a lot more easier. The main problem is, that there are other popular smartphones around, like the LG KS20 which also deserve their own section.
In my humble opinion I think the current structure of this forum doesn't allow anymore for adding more smartphones. So I think it would be a wise idea to rethink the current structure. I would think more in terms of activities then in terms of different devices.
go for it!

XDA open for non HTC devices? what you think?

With the posibility on the air of opening XDA for non HTC devices, what is your opinion?
Should this go ahead?
Or should we stay only with HTC?
This poll will help Admin & Owners to see what is members opinions, which are very important!

I'm quite interested about this (of course there aren't too many votes yet, but we'll see)...what do people have against non-XDA phones? If we can maintain the same set of quality ROMs and information, what's the objective?
The XDA admins are beginning to experiment with some non-XDA sections (of course sticking with WinMo and Android), so I hope everything continues to move in that direction.
We should stay HTC. There are a ton of users as it is, and while more would be great, xda is slow now, think of it later. I would love to have other manufacturers, but it works about the same if they are all grouped into the general forum. Or everyone could just have HTC manufacture their device and be done with it.
I would like XDA-Devs to open to also non-HTC-devices. There are several non HTC-devices that are also very interesting, like for instance Xperia X2, Samsung, Toshiba, etc..
Why not? .. unless the traffic could be compromised, otherwise i dont see why not having other WinMo devices sections, like Samsung , Toshiba, and Other windows mobile devices
Besides my HTC phone, I also have a WM Samsung device, and it`s great I can find good info for it here too. So if you can handle the extra users, why not? There are many great smartphone devices from other manufacturers, let`s give them a chance. Competition makes the world evolve.
Of course , yes. I don't have anything against HTC, as 5 of my six WM phones have been HTC but I feel we are more a user community which does not need to be distinguished and divided based on manufacturers.
Also, I feel it will lead to better phones from HTC. Reason, simple - if other brands are allowed here, more people will buy those brands owing to better support leading to increased competition for HTC. Eventually, as users we will get more technology for less
no point of having this post or poll as xda is already a open forum for windows mobile all the while
the name 'xda' came from O2 Xda product line on touchscreen & powered by windows.
when xda atom came along from O2 asia, its already known that its not a htc product but its still listed here.

Keep it to WM & Android. Maybe try one other than HTC device forum first before adding others. Then phase them in slowly. To make sure it doesn't get over crowded or unproductive!

That was actually a mistake made by the admins, and they deemed it unfair to remove the forum after they realized their error. If you notice, other O2 XDA models not made by HTC don't have forums here.
I hope they do decide to go for it. Sure, there are other forums for other manufacturers devices, but NONE of them are even remotely as good as this one.
Take the Acer M900 device as an example. On the ETEN users forum, some ROMS came out for that device, one of which had been built blind, but the chef didn't tell anyone that little tidbit. Now, anyone that burned that ROM is hosed with burning official ROMS as you just get a "ROM Incompatible" error. The only way now is to edit the "magic byte" to burn a ROM, any ROM. Still no fix for it.
If that had happened here, a fix would have been around by now...
It shouldn't even be a question. Who cares which company made the device? If people need help and this forum can do that, then I fail to see why it shouldn't. While I personally prefer HTC devices, I'm open to other being helped in any way possible.
In my opinion, XDA's first non-HTC device should be the Droid.

I hope so
Cuz I am in the mood for a samsung B7620. Not because it is so beautiful, it is completely ugly and I hate Armani, but I realy like the specs on that device. The biggest problem however is the lak of a community like XDA. As HTC is not bringing out any high end devices with qwerty and winmo, TP2 was just a makeover, I feel forced into other directions.
I say stick with HTC. Because once this forum becomes something like Howard Forums, I'm going to leave it forever.
I believe now that forums should be specific to manufacturer, or else chaos and confusion will ensue.

by adding sub forum, what confusion & chaos will it cause to you to leave this forum?
anyway the poll result has the answer
I agree that this forum should include sections for non-HTC WM (and maybe android) devices.
I currently own a samsung jack and it, along with its predecessors - the blackjacks, are probably the most popular non-touchscreen WM phones. Yet they have no dedicated section.
Sever less popular phones on the other hand do have their own sections.
I see very little distinction between any WM phone manufacturers - the software is mostly what matters right?
And I would love it if my Jack had the kind of support my old Gene had around here.
