How to save text (txt) document without confirmation question - General Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I have a question on which I wasn't able to find an answer.
Every time I'm trying to close *.txt file on my pocket PC (htc touch hd) I got a message:
"Saving this document in this format may remove some formatting. Do you want to save as Word instead?"
Is there any registry option how to remove this question?
I really want to use txt files on my pocket pc.
Thanks a lot
Petra

What i do is use [Software] Notepad (Text Editor, WM6.5 Ready) and change the associations to .txt with Total Commander.

Hi,
this is quite a good idea but still it didn't help, because in this case I need to confirm another message when I change something in file:
"Would you like to save chagnes to *.txt?"
"Yes""No""Cancel"
If I change something in word, no such message appears and changes are saved automatically.
thanks
Petra

No such notification when i use the above directions provided
Can open .txt edit and just save as the reason Office asks is due to that it want's to preference .doc over .txt.
Attached installs to Windows & places shortcut in Start Menu/Programs/Office Mobile, you will still have to set the association.

Shortcut to Text Messages

Does anybody know a way of creating a shortcut to messages and navigating directly to Text Messages. By default it takes you to the last account you were active in.

Do you want to start a new message, or just open the SMS inbox?
V
Start a new message.
Thanks
I've got an app. will post it later, hopefully tonight. Still at work.

This should work if you put the link in something like Pocket Plus.
Unfortunately as WM2003SE upwards you can't specify whether it is SMS or Inbox or MMS etc, so you will need to make sure the correct account is already selected before using the links.
To edit it, open Notepad and drag the file into the window, then change the name in the To section.

Guys, I've posted programs to quick dial and SMS from shortcuts

Tell me how it goes!

PS Anton.Valleyman - these work on the same idea, but have a nice message box on no command line!
Thanks Vijay, the cab responds with not a valid ce cab file. I am trying to install in on a XDAIIs with the latest Rom.
Thanks

Aye, though if you've got Pocket Plus you can create shortcuts to the .lnk and it does the same thing as your prog, but only with the inbuilt icons.
I've got about 15 of them as a separate tab of P+.

Ahh "-transport"....what a wonderfully logical name for it...
Bloody programmers, some give the rest of us a bad name!

pearler - I'm not sure if anyone else had a problem with the cabs, but I've linked directly the executables as well. You'll need a way to make shortcuts though - gsfinder is my weapon of choice.
Ant: yeah, "transport". Who'd a thunk it? [Programmers' joke ]

Remove MMS options/shortcut to SMS

Apparently this has been answered before but I'm sorry I can't find the answer -- I HAVE searched....
I love my Tytn 2 but what has always annoyed me is the number of clicks to get to a new SMS screen:
start -> messaging -> sms/mms -> menu -> new -> sms
I have to make sure i dont accidentally press MMS -- I never use MMS and I dont know anyone who does! Never seems to work between different phone types anyway.
I'd like to hack the registry to get rid of all MMS options if possible.
Also any shortcuts to get straight to the "new SMS" window ?
Thanks
Dave
Actually, your second question has already been answered in your other tread (but nice to see you posting in the right place)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=823570 Just note that there shouldn't be a space between "-" and "body".
After renaming this file from .txt to .lnk just transfer it over to your phone and run it. Or even better, first transfer it to your phone as text file, and then rename it to "New SMS.lnk
Running this shortcut will get you to the new SMS window. For easier access you can bind it to one of the softkeys to this shortcut (you can use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279544 ) or copy it to "/windows/start menu".
You can also create shortcuts with filled recepient filed this way, and even with filled body. For example, if you often message someone with phone number 1234567, you can use this in the link file:
"\Windows\tmail.exe" -service "SMS" -to "1234567" -body ""
putting something between quotation marks after -body will insert this text into the massage.

Click to collapse
Yeah sorry about posting in wrong area..seems to have got someones back up.
Have tried this - followed instructions to the letter... the .lnk file appears as a folder. Clicking on it does nothing (have tried renaming both before and after transferrirng it). I dont have a /windows/start menu folder as far as i can see (cant even see a windows folder via synccenter or explorer) - HTC Tytn 2, WM6.1 on Vodafone UK
Anyways, I think the other suggestion of going via contacts is easier.
I still want to know if poss to remove MMS options by tweaking the registry though. These options seem to have been added to WM6 -- didnt have same options in Wm5. I have been using WM for years so should know my way round by now!
Thanks for your help.
Just go into your setting and choose to go to the sms account and not the account picker.

Annoying message upon closing a text file

hi all,
I use word as a text editor for notes that run through my mind. I use the .txt format for speed reasons, but every time I close it I get the annoying message
"Saving this document in this format may remove some formatting. Do you want to save as Word instead?"
It's no big deal, but it's every time I edit a document. I tried to redefine the default Word format, and google the problem, but I didn't find anything. Does anyone have the same problem and eventually a workaround?
HTC trinity
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
Microsoft Office Word Mobile, Version 6.1
this isn't a problem. when you cast file formats you might lose some data.. it just informs you on that. I suggest you start using MoNotes (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403297) or MobilePad (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=473197) instead.

Import Poetry messages into Android Device

Dear friends i am very much new to this forum and android.
i s have shifted from Nokia so few things I really miss about that and copy and paste message into phone memory for forwarding to some one some other time is one of them.
I Nokia we had a option to paste any text in Nokia communication center and then save it as message for later use and import in phone to use as template or something like this. I have surfed lot and did not find any suitable pc suite or software to do this so I figured out a method to import new messages to phone memory or inbox without having phone attached or saved or backed up from nokia pc suite.
First of all you should have following softwares
For Pc
1. My phone Explorer
2. ABC Amber nokia converter
3. Microsoft Excel
For Phone
1. Import Sms(Full Version)
Method
Here is step by step process with images
1. Open My phone Explorer and click on the message>and draft
2. Then click on the new message icon on the tool bar like this
After this copy your text and save it as draft
Now open Message windows of My phone explorer and right click the selected message to save/ Export it
Now export/ Save the selected message in nokia message format *.VMG format
Now you have to open ABC Amber Nokia converter and open the folder containing *.VMG nokia message files like this
And save then In CSV Format like below
After that open that message file in Microsoft Excel and edit the message like delete first three Columns and first row
Now make Arrangement of the columns like this so that I should look like Nokia CSV format to import in Android
Now please remember write sms in first column, in second column write submit, in third keep empty and fourth is for the no from where you have received message so keep it empty as well and in 5th keep empty and in sixth write date as “ yyyy.mm.dd HH:mm, seventh is empty and eighth is message body
After that save that CSv message, any warning click yes
Now put that message file onto sd card of your mobile
Open “SMS Importer(ful version)” and give path of your file
Now clock menu and click “preview and import” on phone menu
Its done message will be in your inbox
sorry for the screen shots you can download the whole procedure in doc format from address below
/office/9rnvAxVJ/file.html it is on 4shared.com
you can also download sms impoter full version here
4shared.com/android/UnyQcPK9/file.html

attach pdf or doc file to an MMS

Hello Xda,
Is there a way to send a pdf or doc file through an MMS message. I have some files I would like to send to someone.
Is there an app that can do that?
Yeah. Using a file explorer (I use Root Explorer), find the PDF you wanna send, longpress on it and a list of options comes up. Select Send (or Share, depending on explorer) and then select Messaging from the list.
Have you tried?
It did not attach the file
no another software can do like this?
Ah, I found one.
Tmail allows to attach files
