Media Player w/Album Artist (Windows & Android) - General Questions and Answers

I'm looking for a media player that will allow me to select music by Album Artist, I have spend hours tagging my music and most music players I try use the Artist, which contains multiple entries for the same album.
The only software I have found on WM is Pocket Player, but not entirely convinced by it. I have also recently got a HTC Tattoo, but can't find any decent media player that supports the resolution, let alone one which handles Album Artist.
Any recommendations welcome

I know this is a very old thread but... same question. I am kind of in disbelief that all the music players for Android are so poor, but it seems they areā€¦ can anyone recommend a player that correctly handles music with various artists in a single album (which is very common)?
Ideally one which also supports the ability to search the music collection, and replaygain.
How is it that with the numerous apps available, there are still none with as many features as Windows Mobile had several years ago? *shakes head*

Cool Flipside MP3 Player for Windows Mobile!

Is anyone using this mp3 player. I want to purchase the player but first wanted to get some feedback from the current users. It has a very cool "swoosh" effect while switching through albums...

It's cool if you're looking for that Iphone feel and more into graphics than features. But, it is still lacking quite a bit in the features sections. Conduits Pocket Player and PocketMusic are still the best if you're looking for lots of features (for music only... TCPMP if you're adding video to the mix).
Your right, it does lack features but that swoosh effect should be standard on all players!
The album swoosh is amazing, as is its album art downloading feature, its so simple it should be a crime.
But without AVRCP, being able to sort music buy genre, album, artist, yada-yada, and some faster scrolling (at most I get two albums per swipe) its just not enough to convert me, yet.
So until then, Pocket Player FTW, lol. At least on WM, I installed this on her 8310 and it is the PWN.

Dynamic/Smart playlists in WMP on Mobile (or on an alternative player)

Hi everyone,
As you know WMP has an "Auto playlist" option that lets you create playlists on a set of rules. However, when it syncs it to the WMP mobile, they turn to regular playlists.
E.g if I have a playlist that is "Not played in last 5 days" and I play some songs from it on the WMP Mobile, all the songs will still be there. Is there a way for truly dynamic playlist on WMP Mobile? If not, what other player you know that supports this feature?
Thanks!
I'd love this feature as a way to create a playlist that stays filled with the latest podcasts downloaded from RSS Hub -- and ideally that deletes the ones I've listened to. Any suggestions?
Yeah I've been really disappointed with the media player features as well as the alternative media players in winmo. I hate having to carry my earbuds as well as a jabra bluetooth dongle, so I've switched back to carrying both an ipod and my phone. I'd pay $100 for a decent player with similar features to my ipod touch or my wife's zune.
Conduits Pocket Player. All you'll ever need, including dynamic playlists.

I'll try that out; looks like it has a 30-day trial. I've been playing with Mortplayer, and it does at least some of what I'm looking for, for free.
Pocket Player's finger-friendly library is great: it has smooth flick scrolling, handles large libraries (2000+ tracks) effortlessly and is very customizable. Hope you like it too.
Try out Kinoma's Player. Not sure if this one does what you're trying to do, but there is a free version and so far in my use of it, is ridiculously cool. Also supports Orb.com and other streaming content providers, has RSS podcasts that will stream in (not sure if there's a way to download them to the device, again, haven't been using it very long).

I've been playing with the Conduits Pocket Player trial and the Kimona FreePlay, which is a crippled version of the full Kimona Player. It's hard to compare them, because Pocket Player is a 30-day trial of the full version, whereas all of the relevant features are turned off in Kimona's free version.
Pocket Player does everything I need. It's great.
Kimona FreePlay's interface, though, is fantastic. If the full version does everything Pocket Player does -- dynamic smart playlists, especially -- it would probably be better than Pocket Player.
(I listen to podcasts on my 30-minute drive to work. Pocket Player has a smart playlist called "recently added", which stays full of various podcasts I subscribe to through RSS Hub -- which is great for one-tap skipping ahead and so forth while I'm driving).
A year has passed.
Has anyone come up with something less clunky for Windows Mobile smart playlists of podcasts (automatically or on demand download new episodes, add to playlist and delete old episodes) than using having to deal with using 2 different apps?
Seems like a really common request that's being ignored for Windows Mobile while good apps are made for Andorid, Blackberry and iPhone.
Even Stitcher.com has elected to make apps for every major smartphone OS except Windows Mobile.

What media player(s) do you use?

I'm stuck. I've been using windows media player on my Raphael (Touch Pro, Fuze etc.) and it really doesnt cut it. Limited format compatability and awkward user interface. So im wondering what YOU use. Post multiple programs if needed.
Take into consideration:
What you use them for, music, video etc
The file format mp3, avi, .flac etc.
Album art?
Me? I use TCMP for videos, Windows Media Player for music or Nitrogen (0.3.2) I tried 0.2.1 but it didnt suit me. WMP has poor usability and Nitrogen has really poor library thingy, hard to select and play tracks quickly but other than that is easy to use.
Shoot!
P.S. (Links would be ace)
for just music s2p rulez
everything else, coreplayer
Agree S2P rules!!
For the rest TPCM
Coreplayer hands down here.
Coreplayer ($) is the best all-around player for me. TCMP (Free) is probably my second choice for all-around.
I use Conduits Pocket Player ($) for music, though, due to Coreplayer's strange (IMHO) library. There are probably several just-as-good free music players, but I have a license for Pocket Player, so...
TCPMP for videos & AudioManger for music...lot's of skins!
TCPMP for all!
Conduit's Pocket Player. Smooth MP3/AAC etc player that works extremely well with CPUs with lower clock speeds. Also supports WM10 plugins and skins.
I use nitrogen
theres a really simple way of fixing ur looking for music in Nitrogen problem
as it doesnt have a playlist thingy u can make folders with specific types of music in those folders
i dont kno if you understand me
Pocket Tunes for audio - it was the best at bookmarking which was a must-have for podcasts for me.
CorePlayer for video.
Between those two I've never had anything I couldn't play.
Kinoma play. MP3, WMA, (AAC? Dunno - don't use it), youtube, flickr, shoutcast, podcasts, orb.com (use this to listen to ALL of your music or watch all of your videos and even your HDTV!), iDisk, Audible.com and more.. damned near every radio station, DigitallyImported (www.di.fm) and thousands of internet radio stations and video streams.. cool panoramic photos and more..
In short.. I've used all of the others (S2P, Nitrogen, Core, etc) and I can't get over the interface and ease of use that Kinoma offers.

Playlist Feature (Shoutcast, WinAmp, etc)

I'm not sure if this feature has been suggested, or if it already exists (being unable to find it), but I would really like the ability to build and manage playlists in MX Player.
I really do love how MX Player can run independent of playlists, jumping to the next file in a local folder (or shuffling if enabled), but sometimes I'm keen to watch or listen to a specific series of media, even web media and streams.
Now that WinAmp is dead, I do hope that some of the features found in WinAmp will find their way into MX Player. That includes:
Playlists
Shoutcast streams
More prominent Shuffle and Loop buttons (took me a long time to find this hidden feature).
Also, I would really love the ability to copy or bookmark the address of streaming media. For instance, if I choose MX Player to play a .pls or .m3u link, that media opens in MX Player, but I have no means of copying or bookmarking it to play again later.
Thanks bleu8888.

Already on the feature list from a long time ago. (high priority #8). Ctrl+F in the "feature requests" sticky post next time
Also if you are looking for a dedicated, feature-rich music app, I would recommend PowerAmp.

music player that supports id3-sort-tags (artist-sort or album-sort)

hi,
i'm searching for a music player for my defy with cyanogenmod 7.2 that supports sort-tags in mp3. that means i can sort the music regardless from the shown artist or album name. this is the feature is miss the most since my good old ipod is broken. the only useful player i've found is the rocket player that can sort albums by the year tag, but not my the album tag.
i've tried some popular players such as poweramp, but no player has the feature i'm searching for.
can anyone help me? i read that android can't read this id3-tag so the player installed on android ignore that tags. but is there no player that can read that tags without android's "help"?
Xenoamp is meant to support them, although they never actually worked for me and I've since moved on. Worth trying, though, as it's a good app and the dev is very cool.

Have you tried GoneMAD Music Player? There is a free trial version available, so you can check it out.
Furthermore, you might want to try MyPlayer++ from XDA member DMDP. He is a great developer who actually listens to user feedback and implements new feature requests. If his player does not support sorting by your preference, ask him if he can implement it.
I've been doing a lot of research on the topic, and GoneMAD indeed seems to be the best option so far. I wish they would add a desktop version and sync. I'd be all over that .
