Want to develop app to make phone keyboard/mouse - General Topics

Hi as the title suggests I want to create an app to turn our phones into a bluetooth keyboard/mouse for pc/ps3
So any help I can get would be much appreciated. My biggest hurdle is understanding how the bluetooth stack works and how to emulate a bluetooth HID device. I'm finding it very hard to get any information.
Any one got any pointers?

there are already a couple of apps that do this.
mobile remote from mobileSRC is one of them.
Unfortunately mobile remote (dont know about the others) doesn't support the widcomm bluetooth stack found in new devices (like my rhodium)

I'm just about to get a touch pro 2 as well so thats one of the reasons why I would like to make my own app. It seems that the tech required to make this type of app isn't well known as I haven't been able to get any help/info anywhere. Hopefully I will stumble upon something and if that happens i'll upload something here

A2DP Bluetooth Profile for existing MS BT stack?

Hello there!
I was seriously thinking about buying myself one of those Bluetooth stereo headsets. Unfortunately they need the A2DP Profile which isn't included in our present MS BT stack.
I have read a lot in this forum about transferring the Broadcomm/Widcomm stack - a guy even offered 200$ on success. Yet so far no success.
Now I was wondering if it would not be easier to add that profile to the existing stack somehow? By "somehow" I mean that I am not a programmer and havbe no clue how to do so on my own.
Any suggestions or help?
Cheers, <))><
Hey Guys!
At least a simple "No" or some reply would be nice. I can't imagine that I am the only one who looks for something like that
Well I just tried to find a thread for you over at Howard Forums but was not successful. Go over there there is a poster named "whtrbt7" he seems to know a bit on this subject.
Basically I believe the short answer is no.
I think we are a year or so away from getting true full stereo audio via A2DP Profile.
I'm no expert on this subject, but I believe there needs to be more consistance and control within the BT industry as a whole.
i just posted this link in another thread but maybe its useful to you:
http://www.send2press.com/newswire/2005-03-0311-002.shtml
iWALTZ enables multimedia mobile phones using MS Smartphone(R) and MS Pocket-PC Phone(R)-Edition to stream music over Bluetooth, seamlessly switch between music and voice calls, and display rich media related information on wireless accessories.
"Mobile phones are transforming to be the next generation multimedia devices," said K.Srikrishna, CEO of Impulsesoft. "iWALTZ enables this transformation by delivering an integrated Bluetooth audio experience and significantly reducing time to market for mobile phone OEMs. Impulsesoft is working with multiple mobile phone OEMs to deploy iWALTZ in their products that are launching in the first half of 2005."

Maybe soon we we are able to get a2dp working on the magicians
Cheers,
Rainer
Cheers for the answer! I hope so too. Just installed the newest Widcomm Soft on my PC in order to give it "More Power" (Tim Allen from Home Improvement). Now I can't wait to make A2DP work somehow on our Magicians. It would be like Star Trek

Change the Microsoft Bluetooth stack to the Widcomm one!

You may have heard (particularly if you’ve been following my past articles) about the differences between the Microsoft Bluetooth stack coming with HTC Phone Edition devices and know its major shortcomings when compared to the major alternative, the Widcomm / Broadcom BT stack:
It lacks BT PAN (albeit the latest AKU3 has some basic support for BT PAN server functionality) support, which would be of high importance in, say, chatting / talking apps (for example, 4Talk or Microsoft Portrait or multiplayer games)
It, as far as versions prior to AKU3 are concerned, lacks support for BT FTP (see THIS ARTICLE for more info)
It has wildly inferior A2DP (stereo Bluetooth headphones) sound quality
No wonder a lot of people have been actively trying to “hack” the Widcomm BT stack on Pocket PC models initially coming with the Microsoft BT stack. Of them, the WM5-upgraded Dell Axim x50(v) and the x51(v) may already be known to you (I’ve also posted a lot on the project; see for example THIS).
Some weeks ago, well-known XDA-Developers hackers started to work on the port to HTC Phone Edition phones; for the most part, with success.
For the most part, you may ask? Yes, unfortunately, there still are problems; they are as follows:
Currently, it’s not possible to use traditional Bluetooth headsets for calling. Upon trying to connect to the headset, the PDA will just display an error message as can be seen in HERE. In the Hermes Widcomm developer thread, people are working on fixing this issue; so far, with little success. This will be a showstopper for many.
You won’t be able to use the PDA as a modem via Bluetooth (see my tutorial here) using either pre-AKU3 DUN or AKU3 Internet Sharing BT PAN. Also see this thread for my posts on this problem.
That is, if the lacking functionality is a showstopper for you, do NOT consider switching BT stacks as yet.
Model-specific tutorials / threads
Check them out for a discussion and / or a tutorial for installing the BT stack on your particular phone model:
HTC Wizard
HTC TyTN (Hermes) (my earlier report)
HTC Trinity: it seems it still doesn’t work at all (I’ve tried hacking very hard).
HTC Universal; well-known Pocket PC hacker and coder Helmi has just announced he’ll really soon release a working version even with headset support. I'll keep you posted.
it may sound silly, but does this stack appear in the uninstall list? so, am i able to remove it?
i'm asking because last time i changed my bt stack i ended up with my wizard being mute all the time. luckily i was able to restore my old bt version by uninstalling new one. so how is it with this one?
BTW, here's the Headset-enabled (!!!!) Universal BT stack hack: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1115973

Yes, it can be uninstalled - I haven't had any problems doing so on my Wizard and on the Trinity. Note that the Universal uninstallation is a bit more tricky.

wm6 PPC as BT keyboard

I've roamed the forum and didn't found much about this possibity.
Could a wm6 ppc such as a Kaiser could be used as a bluetooth keyboard and paired with, let's say, a PS3 ?
I know there is a BT gps forwarding app (gps2blue) and so it doesn't seem totally undoable...
any thoughts ?
Have a look at http://www.mulliner.org/bluetooth/xkbdbthid.php .
I wanted to port it to wm6 but I do not have enough knowledge and experience in ppc programming. It uses GTK and Bluez and runs on linux, so I think porting it would mean rewriting mostly everything (the bluetooth part as well as the window system part).
But who knows, there are such great developers on xda-dev. Maybe someone has enough time to do this ? If so, I'm really interested.
you could use an application like TabletRemoteControlSuite of SallingClicker. they don't implement Bluetooth HID protocol, but they can be used to remotely control keyboard and mouse over bluetooth / wifi...
Thanks for the link. Sallingclicker is a nice concept but requires a host client, which is a no-no for using in non mac/pc environment.
xkbd-bthid is actually closer to what i'm looking for, sadly not running on wm6...
true, all tools I know require a 'server' application running on you computer...which can be annoying
mabye you can make over your request to Teksoft. They already made the BlueMouse application which enables your PDA to function as a real bluetooth mouse...so I guess they have enough knowledge to create a similar application for a virtual bluetooth keyboad HID, but then it will probably also be shareware instead of opensource...
EDIT: while looking thru the forum at Teksoft, I just noticed that they are already working on a Bluetooth Keyboard HID for theire program Bluemouse...http://teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1583&highlight=keyboard
Hu...no, from what i gathered from the teksoft site, what i'm looking for is the exact opposite: pairing my kaiser AS a standard bt keyboard, not pairing it WITH one.
thanks for the link anyway.
you're right, I mixed them up...
hi,
did you already found something for wm6? I'm looking for exactly the same function.
regards
for now this is the solution which is the closest by far:
anyRemote
otherwise tuxmobil.org has some programs listed, but nothing really compareable to xkbd-bthid. sadly.
BlueTooth Windows Media Player control???
Does any one know If I can use my ppc to control windows media player remotely??
Thread Moved to Question&Answers Forum
You can try GRemote, you can connect it through ActiveSync/BT/WiFi, it can use any SIP as keyboard or the hardware keyboard (it has an option for the side of opening the hardware keyboard, for Touch Pro and TyTN II (they open in different directions)), it can be used to control WMP, and not shure about WinAmp, it can be used as TouchPad and as a GameePad. It can be used as Logitech MX Air, but your phone needs a G-Sensor.

Salling clicker is a really good solution for that.
i'm using it to control the mouse/media player/winamp/screen....
there are many scripts out there for this app which let you control a lot of aspects of your comp.
Gremote did not work with my device or computer. too hard to set up. spent an hour and a half before I realized that it is in the diamond section, and probably will not work for me anyway. The rest of the stuff I found is for java.
This reallly bugs me. didn't anyone at MS think about using a ppc to control wmp through activesync??? I bet they thought of it at apple.
F""K it. I give up.

GRemote should work on other devices, altough without acceloremeter some parts will not work completely, but I expect the keyboard and mouse to be working. I'll try myself on my wizard this week.
Did you try Salling Clicker? Very nice tool with very good integration for windows mobile and itunes remote control. and you extend with many script from their forum.
PPC - Keyboard
I need to be able to either plug my Touch Pro into the computer via USB cable which i use to sync or connect it via bluetooth by plugging in some sort of USB dongle.
Either way, I will need to be able to not have to install activesync or any other drivers. I need a plug-n-play solution.
I will be working on multiple computers which have just been re-imaged at work. I do not want to swap keyboards & mouse back and forth between them constantly; however, swapping the dongle or USB cord to my phone wouldn't be as bad. I cannot install software on these PC's to support this.
I would like to plug it in and it recognizes it as a keyboard/mouse just like it would with a real keyboard or mouse.
How would I go about doing this?? Does the Salling Clicker software support this??

no it doesn"t... so far I couldn't find any application wich will work without installing some kind of 'server' on your pc, you always need a PDA and PC application. The apps which are working like this are: SallingClicker (many nice extra features for music and presentations), GRemote (freeware) and PPC Table (nice interface).
My small sony ericsson very simple mobile phone supports a bt mouse and bt keyboard interface. I don't need anything to be installed on pc (except bluetooth stack) and it will recognize my phone as if it is a standard bluetooth mouse or keyboard. Such an application would be very nice for Windows Mobile...

install ms bt stack instead of widcomm (LG KS20)

Hello!
i have some trouble with the widcomm bt stack on my LG KS20.
For more information read this.
Is it possible to delete the widcomm-stack (included in original rom) and install a ms stack?
I have been searching for a long time to find an installable version of the ms-stack, but it seems like most people want to get rid of it and install a widcomm-stack...
Can anybody help me?
Thanks,
andi
there's the Definitive guide to bluetooth services in my sig.
go there...
i also believe the cabs are in the stack files i put there.
As far as I understood, this guide is how to optimize your Windows PC and not the mobile device. The bt-stacks also seem to be for PC. Am I right?
My Problem is between mobile device and bt carkit.
Please help me, because otherwise i have to sell the phone...

Turn mobile device into bluetooth keyboard and mouse

Hello,
Is there a way to turn these mobile devices into a bluetooth keyboard/mouse?
I am aware of the gremote porject at http://gbmsoftware.com/ but am looking for a more generic way to turn the mobile device into a remote keyboard and mouse.
A generic solution would be ideal because it could be used with any system (not just PCs) including PS3s, PCs, Macs, Linux, etc.
If something like this doesn't exist, what would be involved in creating it? Would one have to write a bluetooth driver?
I am a developer but have never written a driver or written anything related to bluetooth. If someone can point me in the right direction I may be able to write this thing myself.
Ever any luck with this?
My Frenemy has found an app that does this with WIFI - but your point about universality strikes me as important. Not having to install a server app allows this to work on any platform. I wonder why no answers or other posts.
The EVO 4G would make a SICK remote bluetooth keyboard and mouse...
Thanks...
Frank

No,
Nobody really got back to me and I've since moved on to WebOS. I still think it would be great little tool!
