[REQUEST] - Per User Configuration of End Call Behavior - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I find myself pretty frustrated when I'm in the favorites menu of my contact app , I call one of those favorites, I end the call and instead of being taken back to the favorites menu I'm taken to the call log menu instead. Many times I want to go straight back into a different favorite and call them. Same thing when I'm in the contact menu.
If any ROM'er had the inkling to add a "default" behavior configuration when ending the call that would be pretty sweet (in my humble opinion).
That extra click can be quite a nuisance especially when I got my knees on the steering wheel, going 65 down the highway and all I need to do is hit the call key....
(edit)This may actually belong in the dev section, not sure...(/edit)

There's an app in the Market; I believe it's called NoCallLog.

Nice thanks...it's actually called Not Call Log if anyone else is interested. I'd still like to see a ROM'er put it directly into a build.
thanks again!

Android devs, some ideas for you.

Hey all
I hadn't been on these boards for sometime, but you all know how it goes.... get a new phone, void the warranty right away by doing neat tricks you pick up in xda-dev forums.... or is that just me?
Well anyways, I've got 2 request for those devs that need ideas for some apps (I know there's at least 2 threads started by others that deal with this, but my requests don't fit either of the threads I've seen). First off a GPS data logger would be terrific, the camera on this phone is not bad at all, so it would be cool to be able to tag pictures with geographical data, better yet is to be able to tag any picture by using time/date of creation. This way you can take pictures with you're regular camera and still tag them (we all know the g1's battery isn't exactly going to be winning any marathons just yet).
The other idea centers around voice dialing. I'm loving this phone, but everytime I need to dial a # I miss my wizard; why you ask? well because anytime I would dial one of my contacts I would use voice command to dial the #. Now I've tried the voice dialer on the g1... not impressed, I mean it's like WAY OFF. How does "call home" translate to "call cheche"???, worst still is a cough get's translated into dialing "732 277 2222". Still I know that with some practice I'll figure it out. What's the problem you ask? well the whole point of having voice dialing is having the least amount of physical interaction with your phone to dial, at least that's what I think. As those of you that have tried it know, you either have to long press the call button, or worst still go in to the menu to start the voice dialer. On BT headsets the voice dial button doesn't do anything at all (tried 4 different ones), and the wired headset the button pauses music if tapped, while long presses start up the music player, and maybe it FF tracks while playing, not sure. Anyways without further ado, either a voice dialing app (unlikely I know), or an app that can change the assignment of hardware buttons. Can I actually make this change with AnyCut?.... if so I just feel I've type so much in vain
Anywho, recap:
1) GPS data logger.
2) Voice dialing app, or more realistically app to change hardware button assigments.

GPSTracker dont allow Geo Tagging of Photos
I know, but I though he just needed to track his position so he would manually add the tags to the photos when home.
He mentioned "just a regular camera"... He would just use the timestamps on the pictures and the tracker data...
It has logging capabilities? I think I must have read the description wrong then. That's very possible since I had just gotten home after a grueling 14 hr shift. Well I'll give it a try then. Still some options wouldn't be bad.
Yes, it takes a sample of your coordinates and speed every xx seconds and uploads it to a site. xx is configurable.
You can visit the site and see all your positions and velocities on a map.

Yeah I tried it last night, this can definitely work. I wouldn't mind if there was some way to tag them on the phone itself..... yes I know humans are impossible to please.
Umm it tags your location data already... when in camera app hit menu settings and store location in pictures. Which records location in the picture data.
For anyone that wants to set it up to store location for other cameras... I would say take a pic with the g1 where you take a pic with another camera. For right now that is.

Get the f*ck outta here!!!! LOL! Truth be told I just took a sample pic with the camera to check out the quality. As you can tell I didn't bother to press the menu button. As far as other cameras goes, I think GPS Tracker is a better choice, well for me it is. It can export to the travel log, so it's much easier. This way I just need my G1 to be on me, and with the app running in the background. I think I better think about getting an extra battery before that though.
Request??
Now that we have root and bb linked to the system. Is somebody working on an application with a gui to first list services and applications running. Then to stop/kill services and applications. Possibly with safe guardiing the specific kernal process' that will cause headaches? Could be usefull while running programs such as myspace, steel, pacman and the many other applications that never fully close once run and slow the G1 to intolera
Intolerable speed. My two cents
Well memory up professional might help out; although, the process is automated, so it's not like you can choose what to close. Still, for what I've heard Android supposedly does a good job of making memory available. Try it out though, it might help you.

Asurion Mobile AddressBook for Android

Hello XDA,
I am one of the developers of the Asurion Mobile AddressBook and I would like to get some feedback on our product from the users here. I have been using this forum for some thine now for Winmo and respect the opinions of the developers here. It would be great to see what everyone thinks of the application. It is available in the Android Marketplace, just search Asurion. Or you can go to our site at http://www.getaddressbook.com/.
A little about AddressBook, it is a socially connected address book that allows you to get information about your contacts from different social sites like Facebook and Twitter right in the address book, through mini programs called Mixins.
Soon we will have an APK for developers to develop their own Mixins for AddressBook. When its ready I will post more information if anyone would like to beta for us.
AddressBook is still in a beta form and is available for 1.6 and 2.0 and above. Please try it out and let me know what you think. AddressBook is new and we are open to positive and negative feedback.
Thanks,
Peter
Just installed
Main app + all MixIn
It's a nice app, just a bit slow on my HTC Sapphire Magic Vodafone 32B with 2.1 Eclair Rom
I don't like "MixIn solution", why not a full app with all modules inside ?
I've launched main app, then I gone to market and installed Facebook MixIn for first.
After a lot of privacy authorization with some screen not well fitted I did a little war with Matching People, cause a lot of them were not matched nice.
I need Photos compare, cause I've some cases with two or more people with the exact name... like my cousins =)
I had some Facebook MixIn Force close Crashes and some com.google.process.gapps crashes too, right now...
I installed flickr and associate it with some of my contacts and no problems at all.
at last I tried Twitter and no probs with it...
I think it's a good app, but a bit slow...
last thing:
Support for all languages (I could translate it in Italian if you need)
I don't like number in this format 000-000-0000
or 00-000-0000
I know it's a developing app and I will wait for next releases of this.
Well Done
Good Job
This is some great feedback, thanks for taking the time to try it out and post back.
Just wondering
Is this ultimately going to be a paid application?
You know like:
5.99/mo
4.79/mo
1.99/mo
What's our deductible? :0
Haven't tried the app, but if you could spread the QR codes apart it will ease their reading.
Thanks for your app!
played with it 30mins.
1. got the main app
2. started a new a/c in www.getaddressbook.com
3. got the MixIn: Facebook
4. start the MixIn app, input Facebook a/c
5. click Allow buttons 3 times
6. MixIn starts to get contacts from FB
7. Auto Match
8. Manual adjust Auto Match results
9. Launch main app
The above steps took about 25mins (330 FB contacts; 300 gmail contacts; Auto Matched 180; manual picked out... haven't counted >_< i believe picked out 30 - 50).
Cool:
-Auto Match tried to best match FB | Local contacts even they are not perfect match.
e.g. Shirley Lam | Salei Lam (it matches)
-Facebook photos can replace local as well as sync. to Gmail Contacts
-Consolidated activities log (SMS, voice call, etc) for individual contact
Not:
-[MixIn: FB] Say you have some contacts named Peter Chan, you will get confused without some other hints like Organization.
I picked those contacts out in Auto Match to prevent mis-matching as Org is not displayed in Auto Match results
-[main app] Contact list won't remember the last viewed location.
I scrolled from top to Carol, click twice to view details, click Return and the contact list scrolls back to top.
-[main app] Slow. Maybe it's my outdated HTC Magic... (it's CyanogenMod 4.2.13 w/ EBI1 mod]
For me:
Keep and waiting for updates!
looks cool..will try this later when i get home for work..
speed is defiantely something that can be worked on.

It looks interesting but what you should definitely not miss is the T9 dialer. The way you can find contact by typing their name directly from the dialer is the only feature that makes me stay on 1.5. I tried other apps from the Market but nothing could match HTC's Sense UI dialer. If you can bring something clean similar to this I'm sold!
Another question for the community. Are there any features you are not seeing in the AddressBook that you would like to see, things that would make this app a must have?
Great work on the app. After using the app for a few days the main reason I stopped us using it was the user interface. Its not horrible but compared to everything else on the phone, it looks a bit outdated (quality wise). Other then the ui, it can be sluggish at times but nice work.

Darvo is absolutely correct. The T9 dialer is something that is sorely missing from most builds. I think it would especially appeal to stock users as well as those running cooked roms. I have been searching for a reliable answer to this outside of a Sense UI but haven't found anything that I'll stand by 100%.
Thank you .........
I appreciate your effort with AddressBook; however:
I find it extremely inappropriate and invasive that the app immediately syncs my contacts upon install to -- where? your servers?
There should be a clear warning that this is about to happen!
Please delete my data from your servers!
Also, the 'delete all' function on your site does not work, at least not with Safari. I 'moved' all to the 'delete' column on right, but clicking on 'delete selected' does nothing.
And with Chrome I couldn't even log in. Got some error about 'src' and try the support page.
I am sorry that app is frustrating you. There is a screen during setup that lets you know about the backup. This function can be turned off in the app. If you give me your user name I will delete your account from the database. The back up is meant to protect your contacts in the case that you loose your phone or get a new one. As for browser support, right now we are only supporting IE and Firefox. Again sorry the app is frustrating for you.
Great app!
I really like and appreciate this app. The 2 biggest features that drew me to waste countless hours playing w/ hero roms on my mytouch were hero's T9 dialer, and the social integration. I'll 3rd the motion for a T9 dialer in your app. No complaints otherwise. Bravo - and thanks for the great app.
P.S. Backup to server is a bit redundant in my opinion, because your contacts already sync w/ your Google acct - but, to each is own. I might be missing an advantage to it anyway. I just opted not to use it.
And props for soliciting feedback here in the forum - where the REAL users are.

Really? Because I can see in the options where to change the time and frequency of the sync, but I don't see how to disable syncing altogether. Maybe I'm just missing something?
Good catch, looks like there is a bug, you should be able to set it to not backup. We will work to get that fix in.
I have been playing around with the Hero, but I am not sure I have found the T9 dialer, what does it do?
Feedback
I've been following this app since it first arrived, and I must say bravo for doing what only HTC dared to attempt. It works well, too, except for a few things.
1. It may SEEM that scrolling smoothness isn't that important. Ask Apple, they'll tell you the truth: Its the only thing the masses give a Sh&% about, how something looks. So imitate the apple or hero contact style, because the one here is rough but needs only an easy fix! Smooth scrolling and better "sleek" colors. Same for the dialer.
2. It seems to run too often in the background, which slows my phone seemingly, no matter how often i taskiller it.
Eagerly awaiting the next release...

Tick! A convenient timer!

Hi everybody !
After a year of lurking, i've published my first app !
It's called Tick! and it's a simple timer but i've worked hard on making it easy to launch.
Since there is no wheel selector on the sdk, I've developed one to set the number of minutes wanted. With three clicks, you can launch a timer to remaind you that your pastas or your eggs are ready !
Your comments are welcome !
Since I'm new on the forum, I'm currently not allowed to post external links, so if you want to try it, search for Tick! on the market or SlideMe. I will put images, links and QR-Code as soon as i will be allowed !

Nice app. Any plans on releasing the source
Any chance for an APK for those of us without data?
Nice
Good Work Buddy works perfectly on Xperia X10i
Thanks for the replies ! I've added the apk posted on the market.
I'm working on an improved version !
Agreed, Great work RabugenTom. Love the custom wheel selection.
Have to admit, though, I'm dying to have multiple timers. I'm not sure off the top of my head how they would fit in with your snazzy countdown timeline, but I'm sure it could be done.
+1 for release of the source
Love the app... Mightve been nice if it worked with 30sec increments as well but that might just be me, and there are other more robust timer apps for when you need that i guess.
One thing I noticed though... If the app is open and showing on the screen (IE - not in the background while working on something else or on one of the home screens), Tapping the app notification (in the notifications pane) will "reopen" the apps interface, and this can be done multiple times.
Basically you end up with multiple instances of the same timer... So if youre looking to go back to whatever was open before - home screen or other - by pressing the back button, youll just close the last instance you "opened" via the notification, taking you back to the previous instance of that same timer, and so on until you reach the first one that was opened when you started the app.
It doesnt seem to affect the functionality of the app in any way that ive seen, but it is rather odd.
Sort of like tapping the notification calls on the wrong "show" function, opening a new window rather than un-hiding the original.
Thanks for the feedbacks !
I'm working on an improved version with pause mode, multiple timers and 30s increments. I will maybe release the source later, after a lot of cleaning !
For the notifications, it's the behavior of android which works by intents. Theses are sort of messages send to applications. Intents depends on something they call Context. This is very powerful since you can launch (or do whatever you want to) an application in different ways, and the behavior of the application can depend on the intent. For example, when you launch an application from the launcher on the home screen, you actually send an intent to the application.
In the Tick! case, when you click on the notification, you send an intent to bring back to foreground (if hidden) or relaunch (if closed) the application GUI (which is different from the counting "engine" which is a background process called Service). The intent sent from the notification is different from the one you used to launch it, thats why it relaunch the GUI because the system thinks it is a different context (which is the case).
You can try it : launch from the launcher, launch a timer, go back to the home screen. Now, the GUI is no more in foreground. If you open the notification bar an click on the notification it will relaunch the GUI as expected, and if you continue to click on it again, it will do nothing (as expected). That's because the second time you launched the app, you did it by sending an intent from the notificiation bar, which is different from the one from the launcher.
Now, i don't find this behavior very annoying, and I don't want to write 100 lines of code to handle differents cases! A trivial solution may exist, but I'm too novice with Android to look at it. If someone knows this easy solution, it will be a pleasure to implement it !
Very nice timer. However I have found two problems:
1. When selecting the notification tone, "Default" plays my ringtone when previewing, but when used for real it plays the default notification sound instead.
2. I used Tick for a five minute countdown several hours ago, and afterwards I exited the program and cleared the notification, but it still prevented my phone from sleeping all these hours, draining the battery severely. I had to use a process killer to get my phone to sleep.
Do you really need to keep the phone from sleeping, even during the countdown? A timer is just an alarm with a countdown, and alarms work even when the phone is sleeping. You just have to update the progress every time the phone wakes up. Right?
Hi,
1-I will look on the notification problem. It is quite strange since it always worked for me. Note that the parameter are set for the notification at the launch of the counter. Every change you make will affect only new countdowns. When you exit the app, it always save the last parameters, even made during a countdown, and restore them at a relaunch. So it is strange, and since i've improved again the counting engine, I hope this will be solved in the coming release.
2-You're right, I've found conditions when the wake-lock is not released at the end of the countdown. It's set now. However, the wake-lock requested is partial and does only concern the CPU, not the screen. I've tested again your version on my unplugged G2 and it behave just well.
The CPU is required to fire an alarm even in sleep mode. Thats because i don't use the alarm service of the device which only check every new minute if there is something to do.
And when it's in sleep mode, only a tiny service is counting. The GUI is stopped and it's memory given back.

I'm using an HTC Desire.
I've just added here (and on the market) the version 1.3 which resolves a lot of issues (for exemple, the service exits as soon as it's no more used, thanks to bugmenever) and adds a pause mode (long click on the button)

im fairly certain there is something simple out there to handle this, but as opposed to you being novice with android, i have 0 experience programming for it. and youre right, its not THAT annoying, and certainly not worth most your work time at this point.

[Q] Making the switch (from Android G2.3.4), have some questions

Hi all,
Thanks in advance for answering some questions I have.
I've watched a ton of vids, done a pretty good amount of research so far, but still have a few unanswered questions about WP7.5. I will be looking at getting a Lumia 800 as that's what my carrier is offering in Canada. I'm sick of Android being flaky due to the fragmented ecosystem and am looking forward to the 'closed' nature of WP7.5 - I just want it to work. Period.
So, on to the Qs:
Can you enable a number row over the QWERTY keys on the keyboard? Alternatively, can you long-press those keys to pop up the numbers, even if they don't show?
Can you go into the settings to force the phone app to start with the dialpad as opposed to the call log/history?
Like in Smart Keyboard on android, does the first suggested word in the suggestions when typing get auto-selected when you hit the spacebar?
Are there alternative apps for StumbleUpon or Feedly available? (I couldn't find them, but I use these 2 apps reasonably often) Suggestions for similar, if no?
Functionality of the phone in Canada vs US? (ie which functions don't work: Local Scout, Bing Vision, Music search, etc etc)
Is there any quick way to change settings without having to pin them all to your home screen?
Can you make the calendar app start with Agenda view?
Thanks, I'll add more if I think of them.
O
>> Can you enable a number row over the QWERTY keys on the keyboard? Alternatively, can you long-press those keys to pop up the numbers, even if they don't show?
There is a Key which shows up all the numbers and other characters but its not like a popup and no long press.
>>Can you go into the settings to force the phone app to start with the dialpad as opposed to the call log/history?
Nope but there are apps which are purely number pads you can use.
>>Like in Smart Keyboard on android, does the first suggested word in the suggestions when typing get auto-selected when you hit the spacebar?
No, You need to tap and select the word.

No Idea on then but what do you use Feedly for ?

You need to use the shortcut apps for that.

Thats not true, it does auto select and use it.
Been using WP from sometime but not sure how this works if at all possible.
Like when I type HAV it shows me Have but when I hit spacebar, it does not auto complete but adds a space.

There are some words that it will auto fill in but they have to be the only possible thing you would be typing in context with the sentence. Most words have to be chosen from bar right above the text. (i like it this way)
No problem on the agenda view. Mine is always in that view so that's what i always see
1: To add to what others have said, you can tap-and-slide to add just a single number or punctuation in one motion. From the standard keyboard, put your finger down on the number/punctuation mode key, slide it to the number or punctuation you want (the keyboard will temporarily switch modes when you touch the key initially), and release. The key your finger was on (in the alternate mode) will be typed, but the keyboard will be in the original mode. Very handy.
Alternatively, you can add some registry values that will create press-and-hold options for the top keys to have numbers. I added a press-and-hold list to my comma key; sometimes it's a lot nicer than switching modes even briefly! (I use a lot of semicolons.)
3: For some reason, nobody has mentioned this yet. If the phone will auto-correct (including auto-complete), then the suggested word/completion will be bold. Pressing the Spacebar when there's a bolded suggestion will use that suggestion automatically.
If none of the suggestions are bold (because what you typed is already a valid word, or because it isn't sure what you meant to type), then you can tap on a suggestion to use it. The phone does have a setting to automatically add a space after you do this.
4: There's an app that comes up when you search for StumbleUpon, based on keyword match (it's not actually a stumbleupon app, but it targets the same kind of user). I haven't tried it (but then, I don't use SU either).
5: Vision and Music Search should both work just fine (they're not locale based at all, so far as I know). Scout... I think it works in Canada? I've never tried (I live close to the border, but not *that* close, and international data costs money so I always have it disabled). I assume Zune Pass and Directions both work as well, and those are the other two locale-sensitive features I can think of that might care.
6: Not really, but how often do you need to mess with settings? There are some apps that let you quickly reach the ones you use most often, or let you quickly reach ones that are normally a few levels deep, but no one-tap toggles yet that I'm aware of.
However, I really don't find it required to enter settings much at all. See a new WiFi network? The phone will prompt you. You'll only save a very small amount of power by leaving WiFi off when not in use; the phone is very good at putting it in a power-saving mode. I almost never need to touch any of the other settings.
Didn't notice the bold... good post ... i'm always learning something new in Windows phone

[APP][3.2+] mynderMail

This is my first app (long time java dev, first time android dev) so I'm excited to get some XDA feedback =c) Hope I'm posting correctly. Also apparently I can't do links yet so sorry about that.
Why?
I got sick of composing a new email every time I wanted to send myself a note. I looked around, but couldn't find anything that did everything I wanted (at most I found one that used intents to pre-populate the "to" field). So I wrote mynderMail.
?id=com.uxiomatic.mynderMail
Elevator Pitch
The app will let you **send an email to yourself** as soon as you can type it out! First line of the message will become the subject of the email, and the rest will become the body.
**Material-ish Design!** I tried. I'm sure I didn't hit every guideline, but I feel like I got close.
There are **no ads** (though I am planning on a Pro version next year). This app is currently in beta - so let me know if you encounter any issues.
Demo Video is on Google Play - my first try at this kind of video (or any kind really.)
Demo Music Track: “Reckless” (by Azureflux), available on SoundCloud
----------------------------------FAQ-------------------------------------
Q: So all this does is send an email to myself? Can’t I just do it myself through my email app?
A: Yes and yes. But if you’re like me and you send yourself notes all the time, time savings of 50% make this app very useful. Sending from your email takes longer because you need to:
Open the email app (which takes longer to launch).
You have to hit compose.
Select yourself as recipient.
Type the subject.
Type the body.
Tap Send
Where as with mynderMail you just:
Open mynderMail.
Type your whole note in one textarea (including the subject).
Tap Send
Q: Can't I just use Evernote, Google Keep, Google Now, <insert your note taking app>...
A: You could. If you always go back and check your notes, sure. But sometimes you just need to get something somewhere where you know you'll see it and then sort it into the appropriate app. Some things end up in Evernote, or in an issue tracker (work or personal), sometimes it's a phone call, sometimes it's a follow up email, etc... Think of it as sticking a quick post it on your front door or somewhere else where you'll be sure to see it vs writing out a note and filing properly.
Q: I have an idea for a feature. Can you have the app do X?
A: Probably, though the Free version is fairly complete. Most of the new features will be added to the Pro version when it is released. You can send/post suggestions to me, and if it’s not already on the list and the suggestion makes it into the app, I’ll gift you a Pro version.

A Suggestion
The app is great. Makes sense and works perfectly. But I think the app would benefit immensely from a widget wherein I can type the text directly and hit send. That way I dont even have to open the app. Can do it right from the lockcreen/homescreen. Alternatively, a permanent notification can also serve the same purpose, but I prefer the widget.
Makes me think of BlitzMail. Maybe that one will give you inspiration for new features, who knows, have a look: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.grobox.blitzmail.lite

That way I dont even have to open the app. Can do it right from the lockcreen/homescreen. Alternatively, a permanent notification can also serve the same purpose, but I prefer the widget.

With a widget, I'd still have to open up some sort of activity since you can't type directly on the home screen, and since the app closes itself after send it amount to the same thing.
As far as a notification, I'm definitely considering it (also considering having a floating overlay a la "Snowball"/"Sloth Launcher" if i can figure out how to do it.) Currently I have it set up in my "Notification Toggle" which works out well

Makes me think of BlitzMail. Maybe that one will give you inspiration for new features, who knows, have a look:

Huh, missed this one when doing my research, thanks. Looks like with this one though you have to enter your own mail server which is a bit of a barrier for entry.
The mail queue is a good idea that I already had on my list, as is sharing with the app.

I've since added an option for permanent notifications, as well as an option to share with the app (you can set it to send automatically or allow editing of the text before sending).
