Iphone Keyboard? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hey, I've searched all over and couldn't find anything on this (maybe it was in a way older post) but I was wondering if it was at all possible to hack/port the keyboard on the iphone over to an android phone? Has anyone tried this? Is it just plain impossible, if so what are the obstacles? Any insight would help, thanks!

I don't think anyone has tried doing so. The HTC_IME keyboard is kinda close to it. Im not sure what would be the point, there is a lot of replacement keyboards out there like Better Keyboard which is skinnable. Also, the iphone has a wider screen than most android phones(I think even wider than that of the nexus one), which makes using a virtual keyboard in portrait mode easier.

I'm not really sure what you're asking here. Do you want the look of the iPhone's keypad or the spelling correction engine? It's impossible to "port" either over, you'd have to write an IME for Android which imitates the iPhone's keypad.
To be honest I'm confused why you'd want either. Having used both iPhone OS and Android for a long time I find the iPhone's IME a pain in the ass to use over HTC's IME for Android which is excellent.
Yes the iPhone does have a slightly wider (and taller) screen than most android phones because it's screen is 3.5" compared to 3.1/3.2 used by most Android phones. The only Android phones with screens taller and wider are the DROID/Milestone and Nexus One (AFAIK).

this annoys me. why do android fans like to get defensive when someone likes certain features of the iphone & want it on their android phone. don't tell them to buy an iphone, obviously they would have bought one of that's what they wanted. the iphone keyboard is actually much much better than the default android keyboard & everyone who's used the iphone keyboard knows that.

I doubt he was referring to the default keyboard. Everyone knows that the default sucks (except for the voice input, but that is available on many 3rd-party keyboards as well).
As for the initial question: No, you cannot port it over. Not without the source code and alot of time, anyways. There are a few skinnable keyboards on the market which include an iPhone skin. The HTC_IME is free and already looks alot like the iPhone keyboard. There is also a modified version which works with more languages here.

Android on iPhone ?

the title basically says it all, is there any way currently to get Android OS on the iPhone 3G jailbroken or not ?
Any info greatly appreciated
woops, sorry please delete
I seriously doubt it, but you never know.
Webos would be your best bet since the 3Gs and the Palm Pre use nearly identical hardware.
You made me very curious.
Why would you want an OS that has so few application software rather than one that has 65,000 application? One of the key reason people go for iPhone is because they want to be able to choose from those 65,000 software, increasing by hundreds each day.

out of the 65,000 applications only ~5,000 are worth having. this is apparent if you jailbreak and have "themes" on your iphone. most only have 700-1200 icons built in and most of the time they covered everything i had with few exceptions.
the software on the Pre is astonishing. it's smooth and elegant. and it can multitask! if the Pre had the same form factor as the Tp2 it would be far more popular then the IPhone.
thats an intersesting question you got there. Since both platforms are running on linux i believe.. it should be possible for an android port.
is anyone able to shed any light on this subject?

Best Smartphone out there?

I've been an avid Windows Mobile/HTC fan for over 3 years now, but I was wondering everyones opinion on the DROID/Milestone by Motorola.
I feel like this phone might finally get me to move on to bigger/better things - I'm thinking about purchasing a Telus Milestrone (DROID) on ebay to use on AT&T. I NEED A PHYSICAL KEYBOARD!
Basically, does anyone else here feel like Android is a more stable and advanced OS when compared to Windows Mobile? I currently have a Touch Pro II and Nokia E71, but I think I may sell both of those phones to get the DROID.
Is there any limitations for the DROID that I should know about as WinMo user? Is there a different/better phone I should wait for instead?
Does anyone else feel like me currently?
I just want to find the ultimate smart phone! (I swear it's an eternal hunt)
Honestly in my opinion I think android beats windows mobile in every way. It is a much more innovative operating system in my eyes and with rooting the posibilities are endless. If you could go without a keyboard I would say get a nexus. The droid's keyboard is very flat and honestly when I used one I found the touch screen keyboard just to be easier to use. If you have used one you'd understand what I mean. The flatness makes it very hard to type on for me atleast but I guess as you get used to it, it gets easier. Honestly though the best smart phone is all up to. He user. I think out of the phones you mentioned I would take the Droid over the other two. But if you think you could get used to an on screen keyboard think about getting a nexus one because from what I've seen they are great and incredibly fast phones.

WM doesn't need Root access because its already there. We can do what ever we please with our WM devices.
Go for the droid - it's a great phone.
If you really need a keyboard, make sure you check out the droid in person before you buy it. I don't know if a keyboard could be any flatter. It's amazing how some people can distinguish one key from another. If you have big/thick fingers, this may be an issue. As far as keyboards go, the touch pro 2 is the one for me.

Yeah seriously. Do look at the droid's keyboard before you buy it. When I play with one I nd up using the on screen keyboard more but I've also used one for all f 15 minutes total. Friend who has one can tell each key apart and loves it. It all comes down to opinion

On my opinion Rhodium is the best hardware keyboard device out there
Leo Has the option to test young funny Android but from the mature and stable WM platform
Ive been using Android 2.2 on my Nexus One for the last week.
Now Ive got to say im not the biggest fan of the Nexus One, it has some tech issues that still need to be worked out, but I have had it since it first came out so it is an early model.
Android is great though, its really intuitive to use and the new version is really powerful.

I'm pretty sure it's not the iOS but an Android ROM that is similar in layout and design to it. I'm guessing this is the MUIU ROM but I'm not too sure.
I don't think so. I used Muui a couple of weeks. This lookes slightly different. It really lookes like iOs 4. Would be awsomes if u could access the whole appstore on Your magic or hd2. And the touchscreen interpretation of the iOs is still the best i think.
Woa! think of driver related real multitouch (more than 2 actions at the same time on 4.3 inch)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
It's a little different then the muiu Rom but what's funny is the apps that they go in to they could of gone in to apps that would show it is ios like music or better yet the app store but they don't.... even at the end he has his figure over the Player and then goes back finance
Is anyone else besides me impressed at that video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IY-uRRCARJw&feature=player_embedded
It really looks like IOS 4. It really does. Unless that is one hell of a good/baddass skin/theme.
What really bothers me was that half of the video was him moving icons around and that was it! That was it? It was!
I am no iphone user, but can anyone verify if the way things move, windows open, text, etc in that video.... are they indicative of the real thing?
maybe he opened up that white phone and just put an iphone under the hood. iono.. what do you think?
Last question: where is the original source? I would like to know.
thats definately iOS
Asians are always ahead of other Android users...
Whatever it is, either iOS or damn good theme, it looks great!
No it's not iOS, it's a very well done fake, if I recall correctly they used a theme.
iOS is not *ever* going to be available on any device Apple does not intend to have it.
Technically, it's possible if someone rewrites the code from scratch or manages to get hold of the code somehow (and even then it won't be a breeze), but the chance of this happening is just so incredibly small that really there's no point in waiting or hoping. Just go ahead and enjoy Android, Gingerbread is about to be released and it's gonna kick some major ass!
FAKE! half the animations are missing and ios doesnt scroll the wallpaper like android (i have an ipod touch)

[Q] iOS keyboard on Android?

Before I get the hell flamed out of me, let me say that I'm an Android fan. I'm not too fond of Samsung, but I like my Samsung Captivate. I traded my iPhone 4 for it. However, as good as the Gingerbread keyboard is, it isn't as accurate or seamless as iOS's predictive text software. Is there a way to install the iOS keyboard onto my Samsung Captivate? It is rooted and running Serendipity 6.3 (Android 2.2).

no. iOS is closed source and porting anything from is close to impossible. there is however other keyboard software with iPhone themes, such as better keyboard if this is of any use to you .

Thanks. I've tried Swype and SwiftKey so far, but neither were as good as the Gingerbread Keyboard imo.

Blackberry Slider thoughts

What are your thoughts on the Blackberry Slider that was shown off recently? Since android sliders are dead I'm actually considering it. Personally I wish I didn't have the gimmicky curved screen, but my options are limited. Too bad the specs are a mystery ATM.

That's not a keyboard I can do. I only like the sliders like this phone.
First I had the Samsung U740 (Alias)
Then the Samsung i760
Then the HTC Touch Pro (With dual-boot functionality to boot either Android or WinMO 6.5. FAVORITE PHONE EVER)
Then the LG Fathom (LOL AWFUL)
Then the Samsung Epic
Then this phone.
I love this keyboard type and cannot do without!

I've never tried that orientation before, but it does look top heavy. I'll have to see how it is in person.
