Whoa - So in an effort to get to a point where my phone would ring for calls (and only calls) - Outlined in this thread - I've somehow managed to completely do away with vibration for notifications.
I'm running Cyanogen 4.2.14.1.
In other words - The device will audibly notify, but not vibrate, except for calls - Of course, I've double-and-triple checked everything, all my vibration settings for notifications are fine and I've uninstalled all the various applications that I was using to do it.
It has to be a preference that got knocked out of whack by one of the above-listed utilities...
What's my next option to get vibration back?
Thanks,
Noah
Hey Noah,
I had the exact same problem as you. I had no idea why my vibration died on me. Turned on the phone, it gave a vibrate so it definately wasn't broken. Checked and made sure all the vibration stuff was enabled. Unfortunately, I decided to reflash the rom! I simply backed up my stuff using MyBackup, wiped, flashed the rom again and the vibration came back. It takes a few minutes, not too long but make sure you use the mybackup or any other backup program otherwise setting up everything again is a pain in the arse. Maybe someone else has a better solution but if not (I think it's better you don't wait too long for another suggestion! lol), just do this and you should be ok!
edit
I just re-read your post and checked out the other thread. How the heck did you manage to stop vibrations but not turn them back on? That is so weird.. double check everything. Check settings within text messages and see if its all enabled again. In the worst case scenario, youll probably have to do the above

So I know this is a known bug from what other threads have said. In my case I don't even need to use the slider, but guranteed my phone sounds will all stop working at least once a day, even the vibrate does not work.
Soft reset solves the problem till the next time.
Should I consider reporting and getting my unit changed ?
I am testing one thing right now, normally I have my pushmail running 24x7, I think this might be the cause somehow. It's not direct push, its Oracle Pushmail plugin with works with pocket outlook.
Is this normal ?
Voicecommand is the problem, disable it and you will never have that problem again!
ok I will try this out and get back
that did not work, i disabled and left push email running overnight and sure enough in the morning the sounds no longer worked.
Tonight I will turn push mail off and see what happens I am pretty sure the sound will work in this case.
i had this issue earlier this week and i've seen numerous threads about other having the same issue. NO true, duplicated scenario or solution has been found (or i haven't seen one). After several soft resets i had to do a hard reset and reinstall everything. That was the only way i got the sound back.
so in your case are you saying a soft reset did not bring the sound back ?
in my case soft reset always brings the sound back.
I have kept my email turned off and so far no problems with the sound, I think mine has got something to do with oracle pusmail plugin, which is a real pain as I need that.
Unless this occurs in a clean device [no installed 3rd party apps] it might be a software issue. Maybe you should try and weed out the offensive app/s?
So I know which app causes it, for me its the oracle pushmail plugin for outlook that we get from work, but I can't really remove this, after all this is the reason I have this device :-(
When you lose the sound on your device does the camera also die at the same time?
Will have to check that out next time. I have had the camera go a few times, needed to soft reset. Next time the sound goes I will check the camera and report back.
Camera was ok when the sound went.
Are you SURE you have voicecommand COMPLETELY disabled? (NO checkmarks on NO options AND!!!! NO SHORTCUT TO VOICECOMMAND ON ANY BUTTON)?
Regards,
Ingo
Will have to try again, today I noticed the voice command was enabled, very weird I never set it on.
Will see how it goes this time.
OF COURSE!
The sound goes away.... it also came back once, without softresetting. I am not sure the VC is directly connected to this... I spent a good amount of $$$ to buy this phone for my wife, on the wave that she loved the 650... but what a bad idea!! Is something going to be done in order to fix all these bugs? By the way, my 750 is unlocked, but I guess it doesn't make any difference, or does it? Thank you guys, Paul.
If I checked TTY/TTN in phone options, all phone sound ceased. Uncheck and its back. Nothing in Help about this feature - what is it?
Chris
the innocent Treo...the silence of the Treo...
Waht is it? It is a shame!!! After almost one year that this model is out, still no fix for the problem! I spent $600.00 for this phone...it is really a shame.

Funny - same here. She loved her TX, I bought her the 750.
Ringer gone. Comment "Isn't ringing a basic feature of a phone honey?"
Just had to hard-reset, all others failed.
Not nice.
Same story here. She loved the 650, it got to the end of its life, so I bought her the new 750. Even worse, it doesn't even vibrate for her....lol...
Silent 750
Seems that a lot bought the 750 for the wife.
Even more reason to get the sound issue fixed
Any news yet on this - any word from Palm?
Every day i have to reboot my phone, even when i receive a call the phone don't vibrate.
Is there any mortscript that screen on screen off the phone when you receive a screen ?
Folks, forgive me if this subject has already been addressed. I did run a search and found nothing relevant using "navigation" as my search criteria so here goes...
I used to own a t mobile mda compact and as I recall the nav button (circle) used to flash on a circular motion to give an indication of some sort of alert be it a missed call or a text message for example. Has this feature been overlooked on the Vario IV, touchpro or is there something I need to do in order to enable this useful feature?
If I am honest my patience is beginning to wear thin with this device and its growing list of flaws/missing features which have been left to talented guys on these forums to sort out. Surely T mobile has had plenty enough time iron out these things before this phones release.. (we waited long enough for the thing after all)
My TP does this with the stock rom, no tweak or setting were needed.
Same here.

Apparently you can turn the LED on or off doe missed calls and messages and things like that according to the posts below mine.
There is no way to turn the feature when charging. So if your navigation light does not work when the phone is charging. Then i would say try a hard reset (make sure you backup) and if that does not work then you might have to send your device for warranty or exchange it whatever your options are.
On my Vario IV the settings for flashing the light (around the touch circle thingummy - I really need to read up on what it's called) were disabled by default.
So, under settings/personal/sounds & notifications, check that in the notifications tab that "flash light" is checked for e-mail, text, whatever. Actually, just checked mine after a hard reset and had to re-enable

Actually there is a way to turn on/off the feature for different events (except charging).
Try Start > Settings > Personal > Sounds & Notifications > Notifications
When you choose something like New Text Message, you see an option to "Flash light". Check the box and choose how long you want the nav light to flash.
EDIT: Never mind...forgot to post it and it's a little late.
Thanks guys for your suggestions.. I'll try some of this stuff out and get back to you as to whether any of it worked for me.
Disabled Option
I saw this thread and thought that I'd like this too. I have a stock Sprint TP Rom. I checked out my notification settings and the Flash Light option is there for everything but Incoming Call. However, it's greyed out and won't let me check it. Is there a reason this would be disabled?

It probably becouse on incoming call the whole divice is waked up and the send key is blinking.
There is also settings>sounds and notifications>notifications "phone:missed calls". There you can set an action: popup, blinking and vibration.
hope this helps (names of the options translated from polish TP stock ROM so mey not be acurate )

Thanks folks..!!
Seems like I totally missed those options for the flashlight alerts. They all work for me now. I have combined them with various ringtones to differentiate the alerts i'm getting. It appears the flashlight indicates alerts even when the device is being charged. Thanks again guys, at least "SOMETHING" now works as expected.
I'm trying this program out to get my phone profiles to change automatically (silent for work and wifi/bluetooth on at other times like when plugged in etc).
I have set up details for auto switching but the behaviour now of the profiles is a bit weird at times.
When I have an automatic switchover for instance from Home to Work (silent) profiles, I'm not certain if it's actually doing it or not.
What happened this morning for instance was that I got to work at 8.40 and checked my phone and it still had the speaker icon showing normally in the taskbar as if it was still set to 100% volume, BUT, when I pressed the volume rocker to set it silent, I found the volume bar was already fully down, suggesting it had actually changed the volume setting as required and presumably switched the profile, but simply not refreshed the speaker icon on the taskbar to show that the phone was now set as silent or vibrate.
Hope that makes sense!
On top of that, whilst it seems to work well to switch both wifi and bluetooth on when required, it doesn't always seem to turn wifi off again when it should. I'm fairly sure it's not just a case of profile settings causing it just to remain on because the profile it's gone back to still uses wifi after an auto switch.
Would love to keep this program but only if I have total confidence that my phone is not going to ring when it's meant to be silent etc, and it's a little misleading at the moment with the impression it sometimes gives about whether the phone is actually silent or not.
Anyone else have these issues, and any way I can correct this?
Cheers!
if you've gone in to setting-->profiles --> and click option --> automatic switching
then you are doing it right
also realise there are option for switch on/off bluetooth/wifi/radio etc when setting up your profile
also if you can't see the PhoneAlarm taskbar on your front screen, then that would mean its not install properly and therefore not working, hope that helps
have you been to the forums @ pocketmax.net? there is tons of information there, and plenty of help for questions such as this.
I have been using phoneAlarm with no problems whatsoever for years now...
oh, and by the way, your signature does not reflect what ROM you are using -- I have noticed on the more recent Energy ROMs of mine that the taskbar is sometimes "slow" to refresh. for instance, when unplugging usb/charger the battery icon does not change from the 'lightning bolt' back to percentage until a minute or so... (this could possibly be related to volume icon as well)
Thanks for the replies
No I've not looked on their forum I must admit. Will be worth checking out though.
I'm very interested in the comments about this slow refresh with the taskbar though as I think that must be the problem.
I had noticed the same thing with the charging 'lightning'' icon but had forgotten until you mentioned it.
I've added my rom info in signature - thanks for pointing that out.
Is there any cure for this behaviour with the taskbar other than swapping Roms?
I'm quite happy really with this one, unless someone wants to recommend a rom that's radically better and doesn't have this particular issue?
Plus the fact I could potentially go through loads of other roms til this is solved, or just be trading this bug for another one.
Would love to solve it though. This app is growing on me but if I have to double check each time it swaps a profile to make sure it's done it then it defeats the purpose of having it.
I realise at least that this may not actually be the fault of the app itself though.
The title says it all.

Title says it all, but it's still vague as hell. Vibrate problems on ringing/notification? Haptic feedback in general? Elaboration is your friend.
Staying on post, I didn't notice any vibration issues while I had it turned on, but its since been turned off to conserve battery life.
I have this problem all the time, Im vague for everything without realizing it. I meant vibrate for notifications. I tried turning it on in settings but nothing.
If you want it to vibrate for your text messages you must go into the settings in the messaging app and turn it on as well as in the global settings. Same for email i believe.
Well, that did it. thank you very much.
thx that helps me too.
I just want to chime in on this situation and say that I had the same problem on my completely stock evo shift. One moment it worked perfectly and the next it didn't. After several attempts at checking settings and hard/soft resetting, come to find out it was a faulty motor in mine that worked when it wanted to. Had my phone replaced at the sprint store after a supposed cleaning fixed it and then failed again after 3 vibrating notifications. Just another possible resolution/observation.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Actually I have the opposite problem, I cannot disable notifications vibration ( for messages ) on MIUI ... but I found out this was caused by the apps settings ( Fb messanger / Wechat / What'sup )
Before I discovered all of these ROMs on this forum that were somewhat debloated already, I spent a lot of time going through and debloating it myself to get it exactly how I want it and make it as vanilla as possible.
Along that train of thought, I'm having a heck of a time with the lockscreen. It's easy to rename or remove htclockscreen.apk, same as the Inc2 and TBolt. However, upon doing that, while the phone does revert back to the stock Android lockscreen, you can't answer an incoming call while locked. You have to unlock it, and then it appears as though you're already in the call - therefore all you can do is "end call" and call back.
For a period, Widget Locker seemed to remedy this, but it was inconsistent, at best. I've also messed with some of the idlescreen apk's (related to the Sense 3.0 "apps" within the lockscreen), to no avail. What am I missing?
TIA...
I think you have to select the option 'Hide Incoming Calls' in WidgetLocker settings for calls to work properly. You still have to unlock before answering, though. Unfortunately, that happens when you disable the lockscreen completely. I got used to it now. After unlocking I see the incoming call and have the option to answer or decline.
Definitely better than not being able to answer at all... thanks for that - I'll give that a shot.
That definitely did the trick... honestly that's not a bad feature anyway - decreases the chance of a pocket answer, and an extra swipe is no big deal to me.
What's weird is, in my testing, the other way worked fine as well... i.e. it came up normal before enabling "hide incoming calls". Who knows...
