WM Program on Android - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

This forum helped me immensely when I upgraded to WM 6.1 on my VX6800, and again when I wanted to unlock the GPS on the device, I'm hoping for that good luck again...
OK, for work I have to use this program that is only available in either Palm or WiMo. Currently I use the program on my VX6800. I'm getting the nexus as soon as it comes out for verizon. So, Instead of carrying around 2 devices at work I'm wondering, ideally I'd like to run a shell for this rather simple WM program. Is there anyway to do this? or any other options I have?
Sorry if this topic has been covered but I feel like I've read everything possible about this phone, and I haven't seen this covered. Paitently waiting, for 3/23 I think.

Nops
As of now it's not possible, android and am are two different os. So Nexus will not run wm softwares.

WM 6.5 - I feel like a n00b

Ok I just flashed my TP with Shep's latest ROM. With the new look and new system of WM 6.5,,, I really really feel like I'm a n00b.
I have been using PPC for 5 years now. I owned Toshiba Wm 2002 PPC at first, and then hp iPAQ. First time I flashed my PPC was back when I owned a himalaya. It was a nice device but it fell off my from my pocket and the LCD is broken. A friend o mine asked me to sold its Mobo to him.
I bought eTen M600. It is a helluva device. It excel every PPC I ever used. With its latest ROM I flashed, it become the most stable PPC ever exist. I still own this device. Too bad it can not be upgraded to WM 6. The manufacturer says that its chip is not compatible with WM 6. but I need to have a WM 6 ROM since I need push mail feature badly.
And then I bought HTC TP. Flashed it yesterday and there I was,,, wandering what should I do to customize my PPC. The honeycomb menu is confusing me since I can't gain access to classic folderview program list.
I am not going to whine, but surely I have to revolutionize my (classic, old school) mind in order to adapt this new OS.
How exactly would someone reply to a thread like this?
I just want to express my feeling
hahaha
I agree... the honeycomb is not too easy to work with... it would be great if you could drag and drop the buttons to the positions that you would like them at. I have to click "Move to Top" about 100 times to get it in the order that I wanted.......
If you dont like it you could try quickmenu (I think that is what is is called) it is an app floating around that replaces your menu... It was mentioned to me in another post of mine. Personally I really dont like the Titanium look but there are many skins around to customize it if you want to use it. I use PROven ROM 6.5 with rhodium. I like it alot. customizing it is up to you. you can install different apps and try them out...
Sorry for being long-winded... You have been around long enough to know most of this just thought I would shoot my 2 cents into the mix.
Thanks,
SoBBie

I dont get the difference between Smartphone and PPC

hi there,
i was looking for a new phone and got the at&t Samsung Jack. I understand that it is considered a smartphone and i though that as such, needs specific smartphone software. After searching the web for some applications it occurred to me that smartphone and windows mobile are somewhat the same thing. I am not sure though what the difference is. I know that i can install some software that i used for my kaiser but not all software. what do i have to look for and where is the best place to get my hands on some nice cabs?
thanks,
G

i understand. what i don't get is, what do i have to look for when it comes to software?! i have a bunch of cab's that worked on my kaiser but don't work on the jack. is that because one is the standard edition and the other one the professional edition? when i look for software, what do i need to look for? wm standard or smartphone apps?
thanks,
G
You have to look out for windows smartphone apps. Actually smartphone is a misnomer as the touch version of win mobile is also called a smartphone. However for software searching PPC means touch version and SMARTPHONE means nontouch version. Actually this happened with me also as I had no idea about the difference of software compatibility in SM and PPC. Now I have known that PPC platform is much wider, versatile with respect tl software availability. I hope this serves your purpose. If you love apps I think you may regret changing over to smartphone from PPC. Some PPC apps do get installed on smartphones but only a very few of them can be used satisfactorily mainly due to navigational problems. However most of the PPC apps donot get installed on smartphones.

thanks for the great info, it makes more sense to me now. i didn't really want to switch from ppc to sm. i was just sick of my kaiser. the touchscreen drove me nuts. i cant stand the way it works. i wish it would be as smooth as the apple. (don't get me wrong, i hate apple).
i looked at a few phones and decided to go without touchscreen. i bought the nokia e71 but wasn't a big fan of the menu and the symbian os. i think it looks more refreshing than the windows os but its too much work to even send out a text message...i probably didn't get to know it good enough though...
however, i don't need too many apps on my smartphone. just emails, calendar and tomtom if possible. i have a hard time finding a cab though for a tomtom version that works...
thanks,
G
p.s. what is a good site to download smartphone apps?

as well as not having touchscreens, smartphones generally dont need to be as high specced to get hte same speeds. this means they are cheaeper and in my experience tougher to break xD

questions abt android on htc diamond2.

Hi all,
I read through a few sites and the forum to research about my phone and i am looking to make it not so laggy/sluggish.
I am from Australia and is on Telstra network and my HTC Diamond2 is very sluggish and so laggy, it can barely function. Chance upon android articles and reading about rave reviews about how Android performs faster than Windows Mobile 6.5.
I have ZERO computer programming technical abilities. Just a chemist looking to fix her phone. So, this may sounds like requesting baby sitting service, but if anybody is kind enough, please direct me to the builds that are stable with Diamond2.
Google maps, text msging and bluetooth (which at the moment does not work) are very important functions to me, so I am looking for a build that have functions similar to these working well.
thanks so much in advance.
check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509493
there is currently no fully working android build on the TD2 as there are problems with the drivers, android is not a complete replacement for windows mobile tho as you need to boot android from the win mob enviroment, plus as a owner of a android and win mob device i prefer windows over android any day of the week, maybe you should try some system optimisation software like sk tools, pocket mechanic or tweeks 2k2 as they can all improve system stability also try a cooked rom from one of the great TD2 cooks here on xda as alot of them out perform the stock HTC roms
Thank you so much.
Yes, i am just looking to really optimise my phone as I am pretty much stuck with this phone unless I can afford a new handset straight out.
Again, thank you for the link. I have no great computing abilities but I like to DIY. Will definitely look around more.
Thanks so much again.
you're really asking a question that will result in an answer that you just won't like. Its basically not feasible to have android on your phone, and if it ever were to be somewhat available, it would not be stable and it would require significant tinkering and knowledge to have a half-ass working android Diamond2.
your phone is nice...there's definitely a way for you to sell it off locally and purchase an android phone.

Android

Hi
Is there a working Android distr. for the Advantage X7510? and if so where can I find it
Thanks...
No there is not.
How about dual boot.
I have not tried it or read it up yet, but it looks promising.
Gen.Y DualBOOT v1.0.6.0[W|Q|VGA][CAB|EXT]
Have fun!
Edit:
This one seems important too:
[prj][XDANDROID][android.2.0.1|2.1][31.5.10]2.1 AOSP system update
I'll love to dump Windows Mobile and install Android 2.1 in our Athenas
Thanks for the reply, but I still cant figure out which one to use....
i'm learning how to put everything together as we speak.
once i get everything working i'll write a step by step guide for our phone, but for now lets keep our fingers crossed
i'm tired of WM6/7 looking forward to use Android 2.1 as the default OS, specially now that the market is mostly Google vs. Apple (iphone vs. Aphones [Android phones])
Windows Mobile is being left in the dust, as well as Palm and other phone OSes.
HTC already has many Android 2.1 phones on the market, so it's simple logic to follow that direction as most of the drivers should be compatible, even if it's not some one will be able to help and develop a driver for "Linux" Android.
Nice....
I am looking forward to see what you have made.
Android for X7510
I too am waiting for this major improvement to my X7510 device. Looking forward to testing for you anytime. Just let me know when you're ready!

Reviving the Advantage X7510 ...
Hi,
I've put my X7510 aside for some months waiting for something better than WM!
Android seems to be up to the task, but, it seems not much is being done for this excellent phone ...
Anyone has any updates in that regard?
Thanks to all,
AAA
