how do I delete words from my user dictionary ? - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I have a mis-spelling in there that keeps popping up and it is pissing me off any ideas?

Ha, I've got the same problem! For some reason it has "the" as "thee." You can imagine how problematic that is! I checked through the settings but I couldn't find it. It's probable in the application management section, but I haven't really looked.
I figured I would just do a complete wipe when I got home from vacation and it should delete the whole thing.
Anyone know how to edit the list otherwise?

You will have to delete the cache. Not sure which. Let me look in my phone and see if I can find it. Which will delete all saved words.
*NOTE* THIS WILL DELETE ALL SAVED USER WORDS.
Go to settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Touch Input > Clear data

the only way to do this is to delete the whole dictionary.
If your phone is rooted, it's really easy, its just a button push in Flipz kitchen
Otherwise go to settings>aplications>manage>touch input> clear data. It won't uninstall it, it will just clear your dictionary and clear your keyboard settings (haptic feedback etc.) but its pretty easy to put your settings back

Ironic that you can remove/edit individual entries to the Moment dictionary. Also funny it came preloaded with "Sprint" "Samsung" and "Moment" as custom words.

Couldn't you pull the db, open it with sqllite and edit it?

somebody know where the db is stored? Maybe we could write an app to do it.

I think I found it at /data/data/com.htc.android.htcime/udb
It's not a sqlite db, but just looking at the file it does appear to have some words I've saved along with a lot of other words, might be the entire prediction dictionary?
/sdcard/ime/tubd.dat is also supposed to contain words, but I am not seeing it on my card.

is there a way to edit the file ?

I've been looking at it... and it seems like new words are added to the end. I think the only way to delete a word in the middle of the list is to rewrite the file completely but leave that word out. I just haven't had time to play with it.

t9 words list removal

Hi all, is there any way I can remove mispelled word in the t9 word list? Do I need to uninstall the whole t9_french from add/remove so it resets the word list or a simple deletion of a "word list" file would work? Thanks all.
is this what you need?
I guess but I tried installing and it didn't worked, I probably need the VM version instead of this one?! Where can I find it? Thanks
So far I couldn't find a way to do it... even uninstalling & reinstalling the t9_french pack didn't worked, words previously added are still there. I've tried the application "msT9 Ed" but I wasn't able of loading the "dictionary file", it's searching for a file called "msT9.udb" while I think my smartphone t9 file is named "T9AW.UDB", I copied it on my PC, renamed it to "msT9.udb" and tried loading it with the t9 editor without any luck, it doesn't show any word out the list?!
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Try this, put this file into your /Windows folder and reboot your phone, then when you are composing SMS,
hold the star button and you will see My Words under T9 Settings
Wow, thank you so much, it works like a charm!

How do you delete an item in the settings menu?

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to delete an item in the settings/control panel menu (not the start menu) or make it hidden/absent for WM6? Is there a tweak for this?
Thanks!!
Just edit the .cpl.xml file and remove the unwanted entry.

Thanks Nitrogenious for the response!! My issue is with SMS receipt fix settings by intruders. Because of changes to the rgu to make it english (my v1) it no longer is functioning, so I am going to a sms delivery receipt cab (v3 by intruders that you have provided in your responses in the forum, thanks yet again ) but I need to delete the sms receipt fix in settings...I have located most of the objects related to this receipt fix in dump folder MCSmsFix.dll, IntruderSMSFix.cpl, the related registry entry, and the related entry in mxip_cold_OEMDRIVERS_100.provxml and deleted all the items, then rebuilt, and still the entry in the settings menu exists.
Should I have edited rather than deleted?
Thanks again for any help!!
That's because you did not remove the entry from the menu. Edit rootgsm.cpl.xml and remove this code:
Code:
<cpl-link href="IntruderSMSFix.cpl.xml">
<title lang="0x0409">SMS Reciept Fix Settings</title>
<title lang="0x0408">Ρυθμίσεις Αναφοράς SMS</title>
</cpl-link>
But, I don't understand why removing the whole application if you can't use the settings menu! Btw, that's really strange - it works great in my Greek ROM.
This menu changes the recipient display format. You can manually set it by editing the registry:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intruders\MissedCallsSmsFix]
"FormatString"="%name (%phone - %phonetype)"
"WorkPhoneName"="work"
"MobilePhoneName"="mobile"
"HomePhoneName"="home"
This code exists in 28fe56b1-a5f8-4fd2-84ba-23febc171c5b.rgu.
PS. You really need to study the .cpl.xml menu structure, mate!
You are right(about becoming more familiar with cpl.xml menu structure--definitely a newbie at it ), I appreciate it. I could never get it to work because the hv conversion would always throw up an error, but from your code (there was a different format in my rgu which is really strange), I see where the error is, I will try to correct.
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intruders\MissedCallsSmsFix]
"FormatString"="%name (%phone - %phonetype)"
"WorkPhoneName"="work"
"MobilePhoneName"="mobile"
"HomePhoneName"="home"
I will attempt to re-edit and get it to work, but if not then I'll probably have to delete it...It does indeed work great in your Greek version.
Thanks again Nitrogenious, you have been extremely helpful...a donation is on its way!!

Restore original shellres

Hey XDA,
I recently used the start text modifier on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426264&page=1
I read it and it seemed to suggest if I rename the included shellres.dll.040C.mui to shellres.dll.0409.mui it would work on my device.
It ended up changing my softkey menus & start menu to French. I wouldn't have a huge problem with that, as I can use Google translate & I know French.
But all my startup programs were lost. With my shortcuts all on WAD2, and access to Settings & Programs on QuickMenu, I couldn't access anything.
A hard reset has done the job, but its still not the greatest solution...
Would anyone know if the shellres file deleted startup entries, or why my start menu did not have settings & programs (just recent)?

Hi,
The problem is very clear : the manual and explanation it the 'Icon-changer' are WRONG. You just can't change the language to any other by changing some reference in the name of a given *.dll... You need to have the correct *.dll for YOUR language. Hence it's not working. Your shortcuts etc. did not disappear, they just didn't have any reference INSIDE the *.dll, so no way to show up.
Bad explanation doesn't mean it's not working. If you like to play around, you first backup your *.dll and the start hexing a copy of that backup. If it's not working as you should expect, you can always use TotalCommander to put back your backup.
Dirk
Ah, thanks sir.
I am relatively new to this, so thanks for giving me some basics.
So I would need to do some kind of hardcore cracking open of the dll, which is out-of-the-question for a newb.

There's nothing hardcore in it Just copy the *.dll you want to change to your PC. Make a backup-copy of it, and open that copy in an HEX editor like XVI32 or such... hack the needed bits and save the file.
Then you copy that hacked file back to your device. Best is to copy it to another place as the original, cos WM won't let you overwrite like that. Therefor you'll need to use TotalCommander.
If it's not acting as you expected, you can replace the hacked *.dll with the original backup the same way.
Dirk
Thanks!
Thanks for the quick responses sir.
I will look into your suggestions. Thanks heaps!
While I need to change the language parts of the *.dll from the other thread, will this also allow shortcuts to show up? Or is it better to edit my current *.dll to change the text that way?

Nope, you'll need to use YOUR *.dll... That's the only one that is integrated in your OS, and has all the connections to your shortcuts.

Not entirely sure what you want to remove or from where? What device and rom you using too?
I believe the OP wants to remove a Settings shortcut. I'm not sure how to do it with 6.1, but if you're using 6.5, then you may be able to delete the registry setting for the .cpl (may take some work figuring out which is which) to get rid of the shortcut. Look for it in hklm-security-shell-startinfo-start-settings. It may not work-you'll just have to experiment.

Im confused, if the OP wants to merely delete a shortcut from a folder in the start menu (wino 6.5) he can use total commander or file explorer and manullay delete or move to a different location?
I might be missing the point here though

It's harder with Settings shortcuts, though. They don't appear in the start menu directory most of the time. Only the Program shortcut show up there. I guess yiou can also delete the registry entry for the setting in HKLM\ControlPanel. That should work if the one in HKLM\Security\Shell... doesn't do the job.
Hi, i knew i was not really clear ! I typed it from my phone... too quick.
So, i'm using wm6.1 with a stock htc rom on my touch HD.
In the settings, connections tab i see and old Wifi router entry... if i click on it nothing happens and i have fulle removed this prog. So i would like to delete this entry.
As i said, i can't find any .cpl for this entry. I looked in the registry but no way to find it.
Hope i 'm more accurate now

I don't know if these keys exist or not in 6.1, but in 6.5 there are a bunch under HKLM\ControlPanel, and a lot of them are just numbered somewhat randomly. I have 3-8, 10-15 and 35. Then there are keys for Advanced Network, Backlight, Buttons, etc. If it's numbered, you may just need to use trial and error (back up before randomly deleting, obviously).
If the app was something you installed and then removed, it may have put an actual shortcut in the \Windows\Start Menu\Settings\Connections folder. Check to see if it exists, then delete it. I can remember having an app that did that once or twice. If you still have the cab file, you can analyze it with sk tools or winCE cab analyzer and see where it sticks the .cpl or what it's named.

Thanx. I see those random digits in the registry, but no way to identify which goes to which Andno it is not a "simple" link

Well, back up the HKLM\ControlPanel values, then start deleting the keys one at a time (you may need to soft reset after each one). When you find the key that gets rid of the shortcut you don't want, then restore all the original keys, and delete the annoying one again. It may not work, though-I'm just guessing that removing the keys will remove the shortcuts.

Windows Shell Ext. For Apk's?

Looking for a simple small windows program that will simply show correct icons for .apk's on my PC
I set a default .ico for all my apk's but something showing the correct .ico for apk's would be great.
Is there one available?
Thanks to anyone replying.
There's got to be something??? anyone?
I remember when I played around with a Nintendo DS I found some type of shell extension that would show .nds games icons...
Was really hoping this was out there for .apk's
Really....no one can answer me on this subject....ugh
Either its a dumbass question and the asnwer is so simple anyone reading it just pass's it up, or noone is understanding my subject...OR theres nothing out for pc to do this...maybe i should make something?
Anything guys...**** give me an answer....even a "hey ceaser shut the **** up" would be somthing

Not anymore, i might have a solution for you
first get the image you want to use as an icon and resize it to be EXACTLY 256x256 and in .ico format
then click run in start menu and type regedit
allow UAC if needed
make backup of registry
if you want to just change the icon to know what it is, go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.apk
if it isnt there, right click on the folder and create new key called .apk
check if the (default) entry is blank, if so, then create a new key in the same place as .apk and call it something.Assoc.APK (not tested)
in the new key, create a key called DefaultIcon, and in that create a REG_EXPAND_SZ and put the full path in quotes of the .ico file
tell me if it doesnt work and include screenshots
Thanks for the reply...whats I actually ended up doing is making an .ico of a droid and basically setting the file extension within windows to use that ico with any apk...thanks for the info above though
