Number of questions...
I currently live in the UK and use the following mobiles the MDA Compact IV and the Samsung U900 soul as my back up phone (both currently locked to T-Mobile). I am about to move to Dubai and would like to know:::
1) Will these phones work over there... really confirm what I think (IE they will provided they are unlocked).
2) Does T-Mobile operate over there? If not what service providers are there and how competitive are they? I benefit from being on an employees tariff with T-Mobile at the moment.
3) Does anyone want to buy a T-Mobile branded Athena with the AP4.0 Rom?

I think GSM and CDMA standard here is same as Europe. There are only 2 operators, Etisalat and Du.
Du is just new and has some coverage problem so you may want to go with Etisalat.
I have been here 2 years and I am not impressed by bought Etisalat and Du.
WCDMA is umts
CDMA is a 2g phone std. that America and few others use that don't use sim cards
don't believe Dubai use CDMA
Hello all:
I'd like to check whether the X7510 would work with T-Mobile's 3G network in the US. Does anyone know?
Thanks.
No, T-Mobile's bands are 850/1700, and the x7510 can only do 850/1900/2100. So no.
Hi All,
Sorry to differ (and I am an AT&T customer) but according to the GSM World site at http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml
T-Mobile operates in the USA on the 1900 band. As the x7510 is a quad band phone I see no reason why it won't work with T-Mobile.
Well if you go to the HTC site, and look at the G1's Specs, it shows a US 3G at 1700/2100, for T-Mobile. So unless they also have 3G band of 1900, the x7510 won't work on T-Mobile US.
Looks like I'll stand corrected. Seems that T-Mobile's 3G is not going to be accessable by the x7510 if HTC's site is correct, although the GSM/GPRS obviously is.
Best action I suggest is talk to T-Mobile and ask them to clarify what frequency their 3G service is on. Alternatively switch to AT&T and the x7510 will be just fine.
Thank you, this certainly clarifies my original question.
Happy holidays !
ATT 3G
I have ATT and have yet to see my X7510 lock on to anything but "H" and "E" while those around me with IPhones lock on to ATT 3G.
Edit: Oops, "H" is a form of 3G or 3.5G according to my reserach.
No luck
I believe T-mobile on 1700 (Coz my bro G1 works - with 1700/2100 for 3G while x75xx on 2100), so I only have "E" all the time (I live in CA). Except for streaming video, everything else just work finefine.
If you want 3G, might need to consider ATT at least at this point.
My x7510 Ameo works with T-Mobile US
The 3G works fine with my x7510 Ameo after I called T-Mobile US for all the settings. If you don't get the answer you want from the first T-Mobile tech call back and get another tech until you get all the settings you need.

Same thing with T-Mobile TP2 on AT&T network. Compare Rogers and Telus 3G bands. It might be different.
not to sound rude, but is the telus 3g (hspa) network even up yet?

lol yeah I think so. I think its called 1x or something like that. I'm not very familiar with the CDMA phones but they advertise that you can use the phone to surf 3G speeds on their network so I'm pretty sure they have 3G speeds.
Sorry, but i'm using TELUS and the HSPA network won't be up till next year and trust me, Telus speeds now are NOTHING close to 3G.
I'm not sure how they are advertising these 3G speeds but 1x is actually slower than what Telus is currently using which is EVDO.

i dont think thats true at all. i get speeds of up to 2.8mg downlink and 500k up.
ive downloaded while tethering upwards up 300kb/s. you might be in an area with 1x coverage, and not EVDO. PLUS make sure the device you are using isnt just EVDO, it has to be EVDO REV A. (touch pro, diamond, touch pro 2, touch, etc). Hope you get better speeds. CHears
Telus EVDO is not slow. Unfortunately the HDPA network is not up yet but it should be online VERY soon as the Olympics are drawing close and this is the reason why Telus is upgrading the network before Feb. 2010 here in Vancouver.

Where the heck are you located?? I'm using a TP2 with full EV signal and i'm getting 400-600k and that's in the downtown core. And from what telus tells me thats the best they can do till they put the HSPA network up. They said CDMA is only capable of 7-750k max, there is no getting over that. But i'd love to know how your getting 2.8 meg, because technically thats roughly 2100k faster than what telus says we can get.
And Jessie is right Telus has a goal to sell phones during the olympics and they plan to have the HSPA up by then.
Yup I'm pretty sure I saw Telus advertising their high speed somewhere
im using a physical sim-card thingy to allow other sim cards to work in my telus TP2, it works (since it does not give me the regular error and i can see the numbers in it), but how do I stop it from using CDMA and go on GSM only?
Guys
I'm hoping you can help us no CDMA users with this question.
Considering that the CDMA TP2 has both GSM and CDMA radios, can I pop in a GSM SIM CARD and enjoy full GSM coverage including use of Asia and European 3G bands?

Yes you can use it on GSM networks. If you want to use the phone on a SIM other that the company's provided sim you need to sim-unlock it. The 3G will work in Asia and Europe but not in North AMerica because the bands are different and the TP2 supports those of Asia and Europe only (the North American CDMA version).

Go to Phone Settings and select the Network tab then select GSM only instead of Global or CDMA

It is quadband gsm.... works on all continents.... provided it is unlocked or you are paying for global roaming.
hello guys, im going to purchase verizon tp2 cause they say it supports gsm and cheaper than the generic nonbranded version. tmobile's design i dislike. so as im going to use it only with gsm sim, i have such questions, are there any differences in use between gsm and vzw versions except i must select gsm mode? can i flash it with generic tp2 roms?
........
okay, seems to be cdma versions cant be flashed to gsm as it is another model id(rhod400 and rhod500)
so i have one more question, will i be able to use internet on vzw tp2 without any restrictions on its stock rom now, when hardspl have not been released yet?
Just to be sure I understand if I want to buy a TP2 in Canada...
The Telus version will not be able to use GSN (Fido/Rogers) 3G network because the 3G bands are not the same as the TP2 from the United-States and Europe?
If so, would this version of the TP2 work with Fido/Rogers GSM 3g ?

I dont think so. I dont think there's a PRO 2 that supports our North American 3G bands.. At least not yet.. For the question above. Yes it is GSM quadband but not 3G quadband. This is different. It is 3G dualband and supports those of Asia and Europe only. Unfortunately.
That's a good and clear answer! Thx !
No problem. I think when and if AT&T or some North American GSM carrier releases the TP2, then the 3G will definitely work here in NA. Otherwise the current versions only support Asia and Europe.
Another question, can we install a custom ROM on the worldphone telus Touch Pro 2 like the other GSM phones? (I dont think so but I found two opposite answers on this forum).
hi there
well my problem is that when i choose the band of 850. the phone cant really find my network band......
im from costa rica , and our 3g band is 850.
i used to have htc pro from att and it worked 100%
but now with my tmobile, i really dont know why i cant connect to my 3g network. EVEN that my phone gives me the option to change the BAnd.
T-Mobile's 3G band is 1700/2100MHz. Most of the world is different. If your phone isn't T-Mobile branded, it probably has no way to get on the T-Mobile 3G network.

MMMMM
so.. why my t-mobile htc pro 2 phone has an option that says umts 1900+850 :/
hi just purchased a USA htc win phone ,does anyone know if 4g will work in UK ,if so witch provider cheers
no body tried then
not much happening here then
Not sure
I have just bought from USA a HTC One M8 T-Mobile 0P6B140 which I have unlocked. It is working fine but although it shows it is on Vodafone UK 4G, using the app NET CHECK it reports 3G HSDPA/HSUPA 57mbit. The only thing that I haven't got working is MMS. I have entered the APN details for my contract Vodafone sim which I found on the net, and there are various, but it tells me it cannot send and to contact mobile op. for settings.
As for the 4G, I live in a rural area it may be that Vodafone are transmitting on band 20 (800 MHz) and this phone doesn't support that. Vodafone only have the 800 and 2600 frequencies, band 7 and 20. My phone uses 3 (1800), 4 (AWS). 7(2600), 13 (not sure). I might be wrong with these.
Overall I am pleased, the phone is superbly built and it gives me something to think about!
I have the mms working fine, it was just the APN/MMS settings. So it is just the 4G not working but I can stream video from my synology ds214play with the 3g HSDPA/HSUPA.
Hi, LTE support depends on which carrier version you are bringing to Europe. My Verizon version did not work because it supports only "non-European" LTE Bands.
Now that I am using the AT&T version I can use full LTE in Europe (except the 800mhz band, which doesn´t matter for my country).
Be also aware that AT&T and obviously T-Mobile change the firmware so the phone will display 4G when in reality it is on 3.5/3.75G and LTE when it is on real 4G.
Cheers,
T.
