Launcher 2 to sloooow - Nexus One Themes and Apps

Maybe this should be in development section...
Anyway, the launcher 2 is way to slow.
I tried to find a way to speed up or disable the fade in and out in the launcher.
There is 2 xml's: fade_in_fast.xml and fade_out_fast.xml.
Is there any way to change fade in behaviour?

Spareparts (current edt) don't affect the launcher.

I always remove the stock launcher, but what about going into settings> display and sound> and disable animations?

The settings only affect window animations. The launcher animation have some other settings

Interested in this as well.

I tried all kinds of tweaking without luck. This launcher2 behaviour is areal pity on a blazing fast device.

i agree, theres something up with it. i dont necessarily wanna drop the transitions or anything, seems like it needs tweaking. its mostly when flicking through the apps, its not really responsive for me. its like it takes so much effort to get the drawer to flow through the apps but once its flowing i can keep it going with less effort....physics anyone?

i think the whole of Launcher2.apk is basically a beta. the damn folders when you open one on the desktop don't even match up with the bottom of the folder (contents)- Wysie posted about this a while back- i have tried to fix and remake all the 9patch drawable images without any luck which makes me think its in the code for it- ie. how it handles the 9patches is off...
I am waiting for someone to tweak it so that we will have an Advanced Launcher2.apk with folders, differing number of screens etc like with advancedlauncher for the G1/Magic.
I know nothing about building from source but i wonder if the tweaks from advancedlauncher can be applied to Launcher2.apk (avanced launcher was open source too with git access etc)....

[REQ] Bare Bones speed launcher

We've seen some great launchers recently, and I just want to put it out here what I'm looking for, and maybe some others too.
I would like to see a launcher that switches screens as snappy as how the default gallery app swipes from one pic to the next. It's really snappy, smooth, and bouncy. It's different from the iphone-esque style (which the 7screen launcher does a great job at). I just prefer the sliding of the gallery app more.
No other fancy things like extra buttons on the bottom, extra screens, tweaked app drawers, auto-rotate, or things like that. Those extra features are great to play with, but I would love a keeper launcher. The default launcher is perfect, except for the kind of choppyness it exhibits when going screen to screen.
Not sure how welcome request threads are, but I figure I'd give it a try. I'd try to make one myself...if only I knew the first thing about doing so.
Keep up the great work, devs.

Replacing stock launcher

Hi all,
I'm currently using LauncherPro and I was wondering if the stock launcher still runs in the background when LauncherPro is active, or if it's completely shut down.
Basically, I'm trying to find out if the stock launcher would take up any RAM/CPU when you're running a different launcher on top.
Thanks

Interesting question. I think the easiest way to get an answer to this, is simply to ask one of the creators of the home screen replacements apps. I'll try to get in touch with them and get back as soon as I can.

In the mean time, it can't hurt to remove all widgets and things from the stock launcher homescreens. This way it won't use resources.

not a bad tip
I'm pretty sure it doesn't.
Even if it does it would get killed after residing in memory long enough.
There can only be one default launcher and you'll notice if you switch between launchers, each time you do the launcher you load has to redraw everything on the home screen. Thus it's not residing in memory.
Heck, the default launchers don't stay in memory very long without some tweeks so I can say with confidence that launchers not actively running aren't gonna be taking up resources.
That's my observation as well, but I'm no expert

It's not used unless it is called, typically by another app using an intent, or it's set as your default launcher.
So, if it's not set as your default launcher the only resources it consumes is storage space EXCEPT until it is called by another app. For example, the stock launcher has a wallpaper picker intent so when you open the wallpaper picker it will "launch" that function (not the whole app) of the stock launcher because the stock launcher is registered (in androidmanifest.xml) to respond to such calls.
In reality it will sit idle for most of the time and use a tiny amount of resource if it's needed. It would be a measurable use of resources but probably not perceptible to a human.

Cyanogen 6 on HTC Dream - Home screen SLOW!

Hey guys,
I loaded CM6 on my Rogers HTC Dream the other day, and I've noticed some serious delays when going back to the home screen from certain apps.
In the Cyanogen Performance settings, I have "lock home to memory" enabled, but I still occasionally get some serious lag on the home.
Basically, I leave an app and when the home screen loads, there are no apps, no widgets, and the bottom task bar doesn't even load the shortcuts. It just shows "LAB" and "RAB" and the main button. It takes quite a few seconds until it finally loads. During this time, you also can't scroll or anything, it's basically just frozen.
Any ideas on how to fix/improve this?
Also, would you guys recommend sticking with the ADW or going over to Launcher Pro? I heard LP might be quicker on the G1?
Thanks

Do you have compcache or swap enabled?
Also Launcher Pro is a lot smoother on the G1 than ADW, but it also uses more memory.

Well, I would say go ahead and try it. Then remove ADW Launcher altogether once Launcher Pro is installed.
Also you can go to settings/cyanogenmod settings/ performance settings/ Use Compcache should be checked if you want compcache. Also Lock Home in Memory should be checked.

Still getting lag going to the home screen though.
Any suggestions?

With his tutorial, my CM6 with ADW is running just as fast as the 1.6 Rom I reverted back to after using CM6 before.
Try Zeam launcher. It's less bloated than ADW and Launcher Pro.
I had the same problem after upgrading to CM6. Definitely install swap and firerat's all in one.
Pretty much follow this guide:

I am pretty much in the same situation,
I went with LauncherPro, now can someone post the command how to remove ADW with ADB.
I have ADB running, but I am a newbie in commands.
Thx.
The CM slowdowns and reboots are not bugs, they're features! CM builds have so much linux and so little Android under them that they'll eventually force you to get a real life.

As anyone would tell you:
Yes there is a way to go back to stock, but it is easily searchable. Please do a bit of research and you'll have your answer.

Hi everyone and happy new year!
I’ve released an small update for ADWLauncher EX with the following changes:

Lots of fixes for “ForceCloses” and other stability and code improvements.
And to celebrate the new year and the ADWLauncherEX success, I’ve published the ADWNotifier app free for everyone on the market!

Thanks to you, my Launcherpro has been collecting some serious dust.........thank you x10 for the best launcher available!!!

Maybe I'll try out ADW Launcher EX now that ADWNotifier is free. I saw no reason paying for a "feature", which is standard with Launcher Pro.

Can EX import settings from the free launcher yet?
Hey, I installed ADWLauncherEX form market. Now, I'm running into some problems:
The Launcher won't save any settings, I set. In fact, every time I exit the settings dialog, the changelog pops up again. Anyone know, what to do about that?

edit: found it, you have to use an app like root explorer and delete 2 directories located in dbdata/databases.I don't recall their exact name, but they both contained the string "adw" and were almost at the end of the list.

no worries man..i found one aswell, but most of the people with the same problem wrote they found two..
Nevertheless it works like a charm so..
Launcher works great for me so gar on a Galaxy S. However, I noticed one annoying thing: Loading the shortcut list for applications takes an eternity (I have 300+ apps installed). The same thing goes for the dialog in ADWNotfier, where you can select the SMS oder Mail-App. This definitely needs some code improvement.
Hey, I downloaded the app yesterday and it still wont download to my phone I have the captivate and it just runs a bar saying authorizing i left it overnight and it still has that running so i canceled and redid it, still nothing it wont physically install whats wrong?
I love the speed of ADW EX.
Only significant complaint so far is that there's no direct access to System Preferences from the launcher menu. Shouldn't have to go into sub-menus to access the system prefs.
Question: Is there a way to get SMS/Gmail/Voicemail notifications in the dock?
Both LauncherPro+ and Go Launcher will attach such counts to the relevant icons, but I don't see this in ADWLauncher EX. In ADW Settings > General Preferences > System Preferences there's options for "Show notifications" and "Bubble font size", but I have no idea how these apply. I sent myself a SMS, and though my Notification bar was showing one message, there wasn't anything visible in the Launcher itself.
-edit-
OK. Got it working. Didn't realize I need to download ADW Notifier as well.
Would be nice if the notifiers were smart and only wiped the numbers after you actually read the email (for example) rather than as soon as you open Gmail though. That's how Go Launcher seems to work.
So far I'm liking this. I am having a problem, and I don't know if it's a feature or a bug. Every time I swipe down on any part of the screen the notification bar will come down. I switched back to Launcher Pro and it did not do this. Also when switching to the hidden dock it drags the icon form the normal dock. I would also like to see a way to change the dock backgrounds like on Launcher pro. And I'm with saltorio, It would be nice if there was a system prefs from the main menu. But I could get used to it where it is now. Keep up the good job.

So is ADW ever going to get some widgets similar to LPP? Would live to give ADW a serious consideration but having to pay for other apps just to make up for ADWs shortcomings doesn't make sense.

Making your S6 as "vanilla" android as possible....

Not getting my S6 until Monday, but two of the first things I plan on doing are installing the Google Now Launcher, and the Google Keyboard. As a long time Nexus user, hopefully this will get me as close to that vanilla android feel as possible.
So my question is...has anyone installed those apps? How is it running? Anything else you can do to make it as vanilla feeling as possible?
the problem with the google launcher is the samsung icons stay, you have to wait for a lollipop theme to be available on the gs6 theme store

That was my other thought. Haven't used Nova Launcher in a while...but might be using now just for the lollipop icons. Looks like lollipop icons comes baked into nova launcher now, awesome.
How about Google Now? Would be awesome to get it via swipe to the left in nova...but doesn't look like that's possible. Any suggestions for that?

I'm waiting for other themes so i can find one I like. But I would imagine the system themes from samsung would affect the look of everything else, and then the launcher would be overtop and be the "visual" styling for stock android
One thing I'm missing is the priority setting for notifications. Stock android you could set volume profile to priority and get only calls/texts from starred/priority contacts. Then could also set an auto time interval

Hopefully the built-in themer will get a lot of support so we have a lot of choices.
Samsung has some built in do not disturb stuff though right? On my nexus 5 I use "Nights keeper" at night so I get phone calls, but everything else is silent. Can set whitelists and everything.
The google keyboard is a touch laggy at times on the GS6 for me, specifically when swipe/slide typing. So are third party launchers. It's very small though. Some won't notice it I bet

I feel pretty confident that this will take off and be Hugh...Plus for the themers it probably will make their work easier since it will probably come with some sort of themer package. This is one of the best parts of the phone is the ability to make it look different!
