some basic questions bout android on raphael - Touch Pro, Fuze General

hello guys..
i bought a htc raphael on ebay for 175 euros... its got an xda brand from O2
i descided for the raphael cause its said to run android with xdandroid...
is it capable of running android 2.1?
and what features of the phone aren't supported yet?

It works...but
My experience with Android thus far on the Raphael (My US AT&T Fuze branded) is that it runs, and can make/receive phone calls, and use the internet just fine. However, text messaging has never worked for me, neither on 1.6 or 2.0.1 (the latest I have found to install)
If you're interested, it's definitely a cool toy to play with, but not something you'll be able to run full time. 2.0.1 often flakes out on me and fails to respond after a few minutes. Both 1.6 and 2.0.1 are very taxing on the Raphael, and go through the battery quickly and make it nice and warm.
http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder&Itemid=68&id=2:android-port has good packages that are built around HTC devices. Click through to Android Packages for 2.0.1, or scroll down to HTC Raphael (Old) for the more stabile but less fun 1.6 release.
If you have any questions, let us know. What's the HTC/Android outlook in Europe right now? I'd consider buying one next time I'm there but too many €'s for me to buy out of contract with my weak dollars.
Happy androiding!

I've been playing with 2.01 for a few days - no bluetooth, gps or camera...and it takes a lot of battery.

There is still a lot of work before we get a stable build, but you can try out the latest version.

I've Been using [ROM][30JAN10]Gen.Y PX-TP R0 with XDANDROID (Standard|Core), Its been great for me, the only problem is turning wifi off sometimes freezes and at times the d-pad doesn't work when loaded, but a simple reboot does the trick. My battery lasts for about 8hrs with wifi off so I must be lucky!

If you don't need Bluetooth/GPS/camera it's usable as an everyday device. You can expect 8-12 hours of battery with occasional use.
It will freeze every now and then and you'll have to reboot.
The battery acts very odd, android does not read it correctly, so your % will jump around a lot.
It's usable, but as you saw some people have some problems. Just make sure you read the first two pages of directions and do everything correctly and you shouldn't have too many problems.

Just for clarification: are you guys running Android as the only OS, or using the "boot off the SD card" method?
The links I provided are for builds you can run off the SD card, but which have to be booted using the "haret" utility from within WM.

This would be to run an Android OS rather than Windows, right? It's a full OS and not just an app which emulates Android? I think I read elsewhere that dual-booting is possible, so this wouldn't delete Windows and the issues you guys mention could be overcome by booting into Windows when necessary, right? Does it matter which ROM I'm using now before using this?
Thanks.

Struff: When I run the "Haret" bootloader, WM gets shut down and then a bit of linux code gets android running. It's not really "dual boot" as you would think of it, though. The bootloader is run from within Windows Mobile and then once it does its thing, the only OS running is android.
You must first boot WM, then get the bootloader, then android will be running. At that point, a quick soft reset (after telling android to shut down) means WM will start back up.
Clear as mud.

Android on the Tilt

Ok I am not trying to replace the other Android thread. It just seemed over crowded to try to ask another question. I was just wondering who has got android working (Making calls, using the internet over 3G/GRPS/EDGE, does it boot every time, and how often does it freeze) and what radio/rom do you have.
For android devlopment see this thread.
I can not use the internet or make calls. It boots every time but freezes after a few minutes.
I have L26V12 and Radio 1.65.24.36.
BTW: To all the people who have been working on Android development GREAT JOB!!!
I voted "Sort of", even though your description of "Sort of" doesn't exactly match my experience. More accurately, I CAN briefly get some Internet traffic once in a while, but have never been able to make a successful phone call. In any case, it completely freezes in about 2-3 minutes.
Please post what rom/radio you have and how well it works.
i have some internet (google map) (no browsing) but i can't make calls but it seems to freeze when i use the google maps
Yes (we can only have when the port is complete)
Sort of / Not Really (what we have now)
No (read the Android Thread and you'll have 'Sort of/Not Really')
Sort of - Boots everytime but freezes after less than 1min, usually I barely have time to launch an app before it freezes, so not been able to test it really.

Just FYI for everyone, that is not a sufficient reason on its own to create a new Thread.
Sort of.
I use a Nothrills rom (French rom, based on an official HTC rom with updated softwares but no other modifications)
Boot not every time.
Phone calls ok
Google maps ok
Didn't try to browse
And freeze after 2 or 3 minutes
Android rarely boots
Windows Mobile 6 Professional
CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.5.2)
I would willing to donate.

Sprint TP Very Slow on any ROM (and battery drain)

Hi All,
I've tried searching around all over here and PPCGeeks and have not found a solution, please help guide me in the right direction. I've had a WM 6.5 beta rom (Merdin's Windows Mobile Pro 6.5 Beta 4, 4-13-09) and one day, Rhodium (Xbmod's V1D) would not load and everything got sooooo slow. I tried doing a couple clear storage's and still, same problem. Eventually, I tried the Juicy 7 (stripped down) rom w/ WM 6.5 and now I'm on db ROM Sprint Optimized. I keep having the same issues where the programs are extremely slow to open (e.g. opening a new text may take a minute to load up) and things freeze up (e.g. an incoming call can't be answered or it will keep ringing for minutes until I do a soft reset). Worst of all as if that's not bad enough, the battery under normal use, AT BEST would give me 6 hours (if I'm trying to surf the net - after IE loads because Opera takes like 2 mins to load - I'll get like 3 hours of use). I never had these issues with that Merdin rom before this. I was out of town in Orlando and wasn't installing software or anything but I was unable to ask right away before going through all this trouble as I wanted to hopefully seek out a solution. Any ideas? Is it WM 6.5? I don't think it is since I wasn't having the issues at first w/ Merdin's. Also, is Clear Storage maybe not really clearing things (although they appear cleared)? Thanks for ANY guidance!!!
Start with 6.1
WinMo 6.5 is getting better but start out with WinMo 6.1 bare roms like Da G's Ckean Rom if ur concerned about speed. Manila's, TF3D2 always slows down a phone because it adds threads that the processor has to go through.

Sleepy Sprint CMDA after upgrade

I am having problems with a Sprint HTC TP2 after doing the 6.1 to 6.5 upgrade. I have had it into Sprint repair twice and hard reset it about 6 times. There are two problems I am encountering:
1) for about 2 minutes to 30 minutes at a time I cannot turn the unit on. The flashing green light is out during this time. I can call the phone and it wakes up, but you cannot wake it with any of the buttons. The reset button does not work either. You can pull the battery and that will reset it. Sometimes in this phase the white light behind the hard keys will light if you pull out the stylus, not always.
2) at random times the phone software gets really slow. For example, the flippity floppty clock animation will hang up and not move for 30-60 seconds, then it will move a little and eventually it will catch up. Other apps will do similar things, the clock is the obvious because of the animations.
This has occurred even right after a hard reset, within a few minutes. With no additional apps loaded (as Sprint told me the first time that was the problem.)
Sprint unofficially told me to downgrade it back to 6.1 using a variety of websites to follow, and officially told me to contact HTC support and gave me their 800 number.
Thoughts? Anyone else having this problem? Advice?
Being a Sprint corporate employee at a service and repair center, continue to go into the store if it is convenient for you to do so. Every eTicket they create builds a case for them to replace your TP2 with a new one. I would strongly suggest using Microsoft MyPhone to back up your information so if they do swap you out, you just need to log into MyPhone and sync your information.
The issue is with Sense
I experienced the same issues with the Sleep of Death in the device and had to remove the batteries everytime I finished a call. I got tired so I reflashed the phone, set it up and hard reset it again.
The problem persisted. I would have to click on the windows buttom and then could not click on the Today or Settings tab( I woud just hang there!) Then I disabled the SENSE UI and worked with the 6.5 default settings and no more lockup issues. Also, installed SPB Mobile Shell and it worked for 3 days without issues.
This makes me suspect the SENSE and HTC apps are causing the lockups. I am interested if other people are experiencing these issues. I installed MAX Manilla 2.5 two days ago and the device seesm to be stable. The only time I have issues is when I update the contact tab. It locks up, but that is not a function of Max Manilla but the core HTC contact app.
Had my phone for a week with Sense 2.5 and WM 6.5, stock. No problems like the ones mentioned in the thread yet...
It all depends on what you use your phone for. Try my ROM, see link below...
Sprint 6.5 Rom issues
There have actually been some similar issues with the new sprint 6.5 however, not to the extent of the phone having actually been stuck in sleep mode. Some things I can recommend that may help is to check your task manager frequently because programs don't fully close when you exit out of them. In addition to this you should consider installing cleanram which helps clear up memory. I’m not allowed to post the link because I’m still a new member however just follow this thread...
xda-developers > Windows Mobile Development and Hacking > Windows Mobile Apps and Games
[APP]htcAddicts - cleanRAM v2.1 (RAM Cleaner)
Also, there seems to be an issue with the manila 2.5 sense and the htc clock, if you have the htc clock open it can run sluggish at times..But I recommend that you pull up you quick tabs and minimize your htc clock for the sense 2.5 to run faster. Lastly keep the stock plain black screen saver because if you use a custom or different background the system can run slower.
I too also have the sprint tp2, and the 6.1 rom is considered to be one of the fastest and most stable rom for cdma tp2s. However, the downfall is the downgrade :/...
I have also worked for sprint corporate repair center, what might help and save you time before going to the repair center would be to call the technical support to see if they could solve your issue. Because by doing this a ticket is already created and the tech will be able to see the troubleshooting that was done. In addition to this repairs can be difficult and frustrating at times due to the fact that the problem that you’re having must be repeatable in order for sprint to repair or replace your phone (it really depends on the repair center). If you find that you continue to have errors with your sprint 6.5 rom, I would recommend trying other Roms to see if the issue is in fact the rom or the device...
Hope this can help!

Sprint 6.5
Thank you for the good advice. I took my device into a store and they did the usual hard reset ( cannot reproduce the issue) process. I sat there and activesynched with Exchange server , made a call and had the phone locked up two times. I do have over 1000 contacts in my list ( Business, clients and my consultants!)
The tech said he had never seen this issue and ordered me a new device.I use the Clean Ram and task manager programs. I also ran a process explorer in the device and it finds Manilla to be the culprid of the issues. So I have installed Mobile Shell and am using that until my replacement arrives.
As I sat in the store there were 4 people with HTC TP2 with unresponsive screens. All 6.5 roms.
Sprint WM6.5
I have no idea what all the hype was about or what I'm missing in this upgrade. IT'S HORRIBLE!!! It's almost 10% cosmetic and 90% buggy. In my opinion, WM6.1 was stable, fast, and professional looking. The upgrade has done nothing for me in terms of productivity. It has turned my phone into a cartoonish, VERY sluggish, and a freeze worthy POS!!! I despise this upgrade, the colors, the themes, and most of--the stupid, sloppy, rolodex-like clock.
Anyone know where I could find the necessary information to 'downgrade' back to WM6.1???

WM6.1 is always faster than WM6.5. Besides WM6.1 has sense 2.1, which is faster than sense 2.5.
Downgrade 6.1
PPC geeks has the stock roms...
I still cant post links yet :/ but goto PPC geeks..then click on forums..from there scroll down to where it says htc device and click on touch pro 2...then click on cdma tp2 upgrades...then scroll down nd you should see a forum thread that says STOCK ROM collections..once u click that it provides u a link for the sprint 6.1 rom and many others...hope this can help!

Reboot issues
Has anyone been able to sort out the reboot issues?
I have it working in landscape now problems. Except when it is in the actual navigation mode, it reboots the phone.
If there is no nav, just the map, no problem.
Thanks for your help guys.
Reboot issue with iGo on HD2
I had the irritating problem of freezing when starting ANY navigation software. And to be more exact, when the software achieves a satellite fix!!
I noticed that the lower part of the phone warms up everytime, and it helped to extend the duration of navigation software by putting it against the air condition of the car. But this was not enough, because iGo worked only for 5 minutes at best, after which I had to pull the battery and WAIT for a couple of minutes before inserting it again and restart the phone.
It's really hot in Egypt at this time of the year. So, this meant that the HD2 is permanently and completely crippled when it comes to GPS software.
So, I moved to SD android, which had the same problem. The phone also froze when it connected to to GPRS on Android after some time (about 5 minutes without cooling).
The next logic step was flashing a NAND android, hoping that the probelm was in WM6.5.3 itself. Surprisingly, the Android NAND had the same problem!!!
I finally discovered the ultimate solution; UNDER-CLOCK your CPU! since then I could use CoPilot on android for as long as I want.
Now, I'm moving back to WM and going to under-clock the CPU to see if this will work.
please let me know if this helps you..
BTW, I noticed that this restart issues with GPS software was somewhat common with HD2 esp in hot weather, but I think this is the first time somebody (that'll be me!!) comes out with a solution. So, I'm really looking to replicate it and test it.

I used hd2 (wm 6.5.5)+TomTom last summer in Sardinia (not as hot as Egypt .. but driving hours under the sun in a car with black leather interior is quiet the same ) and never had any lags or device over heating.
maybe iGo for WM is buggy
I have never had those issues.
I have been using TomTom for over 12 months, I switched to iGo and it was perfect. I then run iGo Primo and it also works with maps on only.
When I use the voice navigation, thats when it reboots. This tells me it's not an overheating issue, but a config or voices problem.
Other people using it in Italy don't have the problem. I assume I need to find other English voice files.
igo8 without bug on winmo
hi,
personally i am using this version ( Nav N Go iGo8 Revision 3
V 8.3.4.102680 - August 13 2009 )
you can download it from
david2131.com
or from google torrents search
the size is about 44mb without maps
i use it for one year and it has no bug for me and its not slow.
N.B : format your sd card (1 or 2 gb) and install IGO8 on it before installing anything, its very important to do this step for a 100% success.
you don't have to install nothing, it's just copy paste, and works like charm.

I had a same problem and do the tricks same as you do.
At first time for about week or two under clock do the job, but after some time situation goes worse and worse. After problem with GPS, there were problems with WIFI and Youtube clips, after that situation came little bit worse because i didn't even make a call without restart or freeze.
And at all times lower part of phone goes warmer and warmer. I bring it to service and they told me that they know for that bug for HTC HD2 and it`s a usual problem. They changed mother board and now phone work like a charm without this problems and it`s a cold always.

AT&T LG V10 Upgrade Options

This phone has become a problem because one after another, things have stopped working on it. It's currently at the latest android release from AT&T 6.0, with the stock firmware. I did a factory reset this morning just to verify that it wasn't some of the things I have disabled, and it didn't change the way it worked (the auto brightness doesn't work at all anymore), and I'm having more and more problems with apps like the Geeni camera app that just don't work any more.
My question is, is there any upgrade path to a newer (10 or 11) version of android that might help me out? I'm basically ready to replace the device, but I've put a display on it recently and it's in otherwise good shape.
I'd like to know as well.
My wife's phone has been having issues with apps, camera lag, and browser slowing down, over heating etc. Android 6.0 maybe too old to run some apps, and probably more load on web browsing is causing the issues, but the specs are still on par, imho, with other phones that came years later in the game - 4G of ram and a great camera, good device storage for app loads. Hard to let go.
