Hi,
I was wondering if it is posible to make an app that can enable Wifi based on the location, since it also can get the location for the weather. I don't know what information weather for Sense is using to determine the location, but I also think (don't know for sure if it's getting this information) it should be posible to determine the location by the ID of the gsm point.
Hope someone can make it. (If so, I can think of more things to turn on/off based on location)
Thanks,
In G-Profile you can create a profile based on phone cell identification, which turns on wi-fi. You can also add the start of other programs.
Cool... Thanks... Did not know that.
The cell identification on G-Profil does not yet work(in standby) on WM6.5

Good morning,
Do you think it is possible to have a manager of a communications On / Off for GPS?
thank you.
Explain in details what do you expect.
GPS now turns on when you connect to COM4, and turns off, when you disconnect. Nice and easy - and fully automagic. What more would you expect from this behaviour?
Thank you very much for your answer Jakubd.
I read the notice in full, but I could not find the information. No more than on the forum.
So I thought it would have been good to be able to close or turn GPS since the manager of communication. Simply and wondering if the function there.
But thank you for your help. And also thank you to everyone for this great forum.
Good day ..

Yes this is how I understand it works as well. I can see the benefit of having it a toggle though because if it is always running you wouldnt have to wait for it to find a satellite But that wouldnt matter much since you would be out of battery power. But you know, maybe making some kind of bat file that toggles and launches your gps program second may save you a little wait time.
If you want GPS always on (and looking for sats), use GPSGate.
But as you said, expect more batter drain.
I think it would be good to have like in 3G case, an option to put on/off GPS, sometimes go into programs that use GPS to setup that program and don't want to use the GPS funtionality in that moment but the GPS connects when you enter the program and if we need many time to configure the program the battery dissapear.
Anybody knows an app that it has this functionality?
Thanks.
Hi All,
I know it is possibile to trace/track a GSM mobile telephones location all over the world.
I also know some compaines does this for chargeable service.
I am VERY interested in getting this for free! (I bet you are also).
Anyone know how to do this without empty our pockets??
Thanks,
If the phone you want to track is a WM phone, you can use TrackMe.

Thanks but thats GPS tracking.
I wanted to track using mobile signal trianguler positioning
Just read the first line of the software description
This application retrieves GPS positions from a GPS device (built-in or bluetooth) or Cell ID information from a phone provider.

I can recommend this app. It works with or without gps, only with bts trangulation. There is an option to discard data with low accuracy.
Good!
Hi,
Anyone know of an app that will help me automagically change volume depending on time of day? I'm in the situation where I need to have a low volume when at work, but I need it to be louder when in my pocket - or somewhere in my house...
Cheers!
That would be interesting.. Im in the same situation..
Just having my phone on vibrate works wonders
Might have to make my own util if nothing exists. Can't believe we're the only two users in the world who needs this
Great software is CT Scheduler, google it.
Sorry for my English.
I found an app yesterday "LocationAware". It suppose to set your (volume/vibro/silent) mode base on your GPS location. Haven't got a chance to test it yet. Let me know if it works.
phoneAlarm (http://www.pocketmax.net)
you can set different profiles -- home, work, meeting, night, etc...
and have them automatically switch based on time, location, connection, etc...
awesome app I highly recommend to anyone, I can't live without it
Thanks guys! Going to have to look at some of these

Nice1, thanks bud Looks interesting.. Just checking it now
You can also use G-profile (5 euro) it can change it based on time. And also based on gsm mast location (wich doesn't bring any datacots). And lots of other options.

It doesn't use GPS it uses cell tower triangulation from what I remember reading. GPS would put a large strain in the battery if it was always running.
Yeah, I'm leaning toward g-Profile. The most important reason for me is the identification of gsm masts (sp?)
Which Applikation can automatically activate my favorite WLANs when my phone reached the home or business GSM Cells?
Y5?
One more, which can handel Telefone Profiles?
Tasker can switch WiFi on/off based on cell tower or GPS location. It also has "network" location but I wouldn't suggest using that one for anything you need some accuracy on.
You can also simply check for a specific SSID every N minutes and enable Wifi if it's available.
As for telephone profiles, not sure what you mean there.
Tasker, Tasker, Tasker.

I'm assuming he means silent, loud, ringtone etc.
Thanks for your reply.
The Y5 does what i need for WiFi very good.
But, I need also a tool which change the Ringtone Volume if I reach my office Cell ID or my Home Cell IDs.
I think tasker can do this, but it needs much battery power said some users.

I am using tasker and my battery performance improved thanks to it. I think it depends on the setup.
I know theres no possible way to do it with the stock rom but I'm running CM7 and i was wondering if theres a way to do it with Tasker on CM7.

There is a setting on stock to only use 2g...not sure what tasker is but there is also a setting in CPU Tuner that allows you to define which networks you connect to.

You should check out Tasker. It's very powerful.
In a nutshell, you setup conditions, and if those conditions occur, tasks to be completed.
So the OP here would decide when he want's the phone to be 2G only (the condition) and what action Tasker should take, such as turn on 2G only (the task).
I've only just started playing with it, but it's getting a lot of good praise from devs like Paul O'Brien (MCR).

i'm not on CM7 but my solution to this was to install Any Cut and create a shortcut to the specific settings menu "Mobile network settings" with the "Use only 2G networks" toggle. i pretty much keep 2g on at all times unless i'm using maps or am going online, etc.

So, I'm not a Tasker expert by any means, but that's a scenario where I think you would tell Tasker to look for whenever you open Maps, then to automatically switch you to 3G.

Very cool. I'll have to check it out and see if I can get it to turn on GPS when I open maps (the only time I use GPS).
ya it works well on CM7 but not on stock I could never get the gps to turn on
Does it work? I thought the 3g/2g toggle is still on the todolist of tasker.
