as the topic states, i just reflashed my phone after installing and uninstalling a variety of software, some that were incompatiable with the htc vox. as i have a fresh installm i would like to know what are the best apps and themes to use with tghis phone, considering its slow speed and low ram. i installed windows mobile 6.5 fireburned (build 23017.5.3.0). i searched for similar threads but found none. so this may turn out to be an official best apps and themes thread for the vox.

Ok I have done quite a bit of trial and testing before posting this and feel now is the time.
I have installed and tested a good number or custom WM6 roms. See list below:
NBD 7.9
NBD 8.0
NBD 8.1
NBD 8.2
NBD 8.3
NBD 9.0
NBD 9.1
OCTAIVOI's Wizard 3.2
OCTAIVOI's Wizard 4.5
TNT 4.0 Professional
Black Diamond 2.0 Touch
faria-htc wizard...WWE WM6 ROM- [the real thing]
Windows Mobile 6 - Titanium 2 (WM6Ti)
I love flashing new WM6 roms and testing them out but I also rely heavily on 3rd party software that I have to install after the flashing is complete. For every one of these roms mentioned above, I have experienced performance issues(slows down to a crawl) when installing larger amounts of 3rd party software not included in rom.
On thie flip side, when I install T-Mobile's official WM5 rom and then install large amounts of 3rd party software, the performance of the phone isn't affected in the least.
What I would like to see, is a custom WM6 rom with the performance of WM5 after installing large amounts of software. I believe the only way to do this is to change the page pool to 12mb because other than software installed, the pagepool is pretty much the only difference between these WM6 roms and and official WM5 rom I downloaded from T-Mobile.
Here is what I install on every rom I use:
Wisbar Advance 2
Palm Threaded SMS (WM5 or WM6 depending on what rom I am using)
Inesoft Address Book
Resco Explorer
Resco Registry Add-in
Resco Keyboard pro
Batterystatus
Weatherpanel
Chronos
Coreplayer
For WM5 roms I also install:
Touch WMP skin
HTC audio manager
Touch syle dialpad skin
10 button comm manager
When I am running T-Mobile WM5 then installing all of these programs does not impede the performance of the phone whatsoever but every WM6 rom I have tried to date has slowed down to a crawl when installing this software. I dont understand why... It just does.
Right now I dont even have all of my software installed. This is all the software I have installed, not already included in rom:
Wisbar Advance 2
Inesoft Address Book
WM6 Palm Threaded SMS
Thats it and it is running so slow I can't stand it...
of course will find WM 5.0 more stable than WM 6.0 if you install all of these 3rd party apps, WM 5.0 compatibles with all the Apps listed, not like WM 6.0.
- What you have to do??
- find the app effecting on WM6.0 and replace it with newer version (if available).

That sounds like a good idea but when it comes down to it, most of the software I use isn't really available for WM6 yet. For example: Wisbar Advance 2 and Inesoft Address Book.

i didn't read correctly, are you using Inesoft Address Book!! it is the most effector on the system (at least WM 6.0).
we are looking for many of 3rd party applications we are not really using them, so revise yourself and check out the most important apps for your really using and install them, test this thing for a week, then you will know which important, the stability or too many apps .
thats not means i'm not a 3rd party applications user

I am going to try installing Windows Mobile 6 Titanium 2 again and install 1 app per day untill I find the one that is killing the performance of the rom. Thanks for the idea.
I have an HTC branded unlocked Kaiser in the UK (Currently on T-Mobile)
It's still on it's original install, it's a bit clunky at the moment, but it was a bit slow on the screen updates to begin with.
At some point I will definately put a custom ROM on there - I don't want touchFLO or any fancy gimmicks, just my spb suite for the front end and multimedia stuff so I can play divx will do.
I just wondered how mature the ROM kitchen was for the Kaiser. Is it worth going for the rebuild yet? Would it become much more responsive or is that mainly down to the rubbish graphics drivers?
Oh, and also, once I have it all set up and extra stuff installed (eg TomTom activated), what recommendations do people have for backing it up to an SD card so that in the event of a wipe whilst away from home, I can have a reinstalled OS with TomTom already activated and installed?
I'd go for a Lite ROM either Alex's or Dutty's.
Alex_'s UltraClean ROM now with NetCF 3.5, SOD/XIP fix and SmartDialing
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349354 and
Dutty's Hybrid NO.7 NU-Skool Lite Rom RTM.zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=351058
Make sure you have first installed HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=53280&d=1191643466
Then install the duttythroy HTC_ConnectionSetup_1_0_31002_1.cab
this will detect your T-mobile connection and setup the correct phone settings..
These ROM's will make your Kaiser fly!!!!
hey everyone
first of all i would like to congratulate Dr. Martin Gonzo for his amazing ROM.
now, since i've seen that many people have already tried and are currently using his rom, you definitely have some of your other apps instaled
what i would like to know is:
wich apps do you think work best with the Windows Mobile 6.1 version
or that you find them practical or indespensable
if you can, put a thumbnail of you 6.1 screen
would like to see come cool backgrounds with the 6.1
please share the links if possible
cheers everyone
there is a best apps thread here for wm6.0.
i guess it should be pretty much the same applications for wm6.1 also.
Check out the CHome Configurator. It'll let you customize your sliding panel home screen easily. Here's the link to the excalibur thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393104
Total Commander, Its got to be the best Freeware File Manager for Windows Mobile. It allows you to work with files in ROM unlike File Explorer, allows you to edit the registry and even has an ftp client built in.

Hi
I have just received an xdaII mini and have been browsing these forums looking at the different roms available. I am just wondering, besides obviously being a newer release, what benefits the updated rom - say Cotulla's wwe03 - brings to the magician (in its default 2003se setup). Is it more stable, better features apps?
Cheers
2 words. Persistent Storage. This is the main reason (but not the only reason and there's a lot) why you should abandon WM2003SE and upgrade to Cotulla's ROM. This means that if ever you drain your battery, you would not lose all the data (e.g. contacts, appointments.. etc.) in your Magician.
make your xda mini beautiful
You can enjoy great applications and launchers when you upgraded your ROM. Many applications are running only if your ROM is wm5, wm6, wm6.1 or wm6.5.
Try to use spb mobile shell and see the difference in your xda mini.
Thanks for replies. What about memory issues. The XDAII mini only has 64 mb of ROM and 64 of RAM. Is this enough to run wm6? Do users get out of memory errors and is it stable...will I need to reset the phone regularly?
Well I held my breath and flashed wwe 3.03 to the o2 and it seems very quick and stable. As mentioned, my biggest concern was with memory management. Is anyone using external bluetooth gps devices with this?
Cheers
WM6.1 runs great even if the Magician has only 64MB memory. Basic rule is never to install too much applications in the internal memory which will slow down the unit. If possible try to install them in memory card. The good news is since you installed 3.03 then you now have SDHC capability.
As for your second question it would be better if you read the thread for the version you installed. If you can't find the answer then don't hesitate to ask you questions since there are a lot of members who will be happy to help you.
Have fun with your "new" magician!
hey,
need some help here. am just migrating to windows 6.5 versions. while there are several threads on various ROM versions, i cant find conclusive info on which are the best radio's to opt for? or to be specific, radio+rom combinations??
there is a thread for best radios, but i dont see anything on it for 6.5 versions, its restricted win 6.1
can anyone specifically tell me which is the best radio for the following ROMS?
1. esperOS 6.5 28008 lite
2. Bare WM 6.5 ROMs Witschey
if not specifically, please guide me on threads where i can find more info on best radios
what im looking for is,
1. good connection
2. battery life
3. fast and stable GPS connections
thanks!
There is no best Radio as it will depend on so many variables, location\carrier being some also they effect signal, battery life, GPS fix etc in different amounts.
The best thing you can do is go to The Ultimate Radio Thread and test yourself for what is best radio.
Oh and 6.1 Radio's are used on 6.5
On that note thread closed.
