HTC Magic keeps rebooting, unlike other posts, PLEASE HELP, thanks in advance! :):) - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Hello All,
I've tried my hardest to search all over the forums but I still can't figure this out. I'm highlighting all I've tried to eliminate all that junk.
I have a 32A magic and I tried updating the ROM via this post.
I actually installed the radio 6.35.08.29 a little bit lower on the post using recovery mode while it was on my SD.
My device is rooted via theunlockr.com's one click rooting.
I think this was the problem because I was supposed to install the radio 6.35.10.18 because as soon as it was finished installing and rebooting, it keeps rebooting and doesn't even get past the splash screen
Here's where the issues start making me want to pull my hair out.
The good news (from what I'm hearing) is that I can still boot into fastboot and HBoot modes, but I can't get to restore mode at all
I'm getting better with the sdk so I'm understanding fastboot etc now but the main problem I believe is that it won't recognize my device.
I am on windows 7, but yes I've installed the latest drivers and device manager is recognizing it but when I try in cmnd to type adb devices it shows "List of devices attached" and it's emtpy.
I try to type something like adb bugreport and it comes back "error: device not found"
So clearly it doesn't seem to be recognizing the device.
What I was trying to do what push another radio to the device or something but at this point I have no idea what I am to do, especially since I can't get to restore!! Grr!
Any ideas?

p.s.
I thought I'd mention that I think this may be because I didn't (and cannot) select USB debugging from the menu as I can't load the device...
May be bricked... Oh well lol

update
It's only going into fastboot mode when plugged in now.

fastboot flash radio Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_6.35.10.18.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot-1.76.2007.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2.img
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot reboot-bootloader
make sure those files are in your tools folder

Thanks,
The files recovery-RA-hero-v1.5.2, Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_6.35.10.18, as well as hboot-1.76.2007 are all in the tools folder.
For fastboot flash radio:
I keep getting:
sending 'radio' ... okay
writing 'radio' ... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
Same thing happens for flashing hboot and recovery as well...
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot reboot-bootloader
both work fine.
Like I said, thanks HUGE so far, but still not working...

im also having the very same problem i cant even flash the sappimg or anything i dont even get the recovery
sapphier pvt 32b ship s-on h
hboot-1.33.0009 (sapp30000)
cpld-10

thats all i get please help
ok i got it check it this is what i did i put the engineering-spl-hboot 1.33.2005on to sdcard and rename to update...
then turn on to recovery holding home n power...
then when the triangle picture pops up press home & end call buttons again just press it no need to hold....
once done updating place sappimg.zip on to sdcard...
power on to hboot ...
phonewill load zip file.....
let it do its thing again after done reboot and you got it!!!!!!
i had a card adapter sou will need on let me know if it helped you out....also i formatted my sdcard before i started because phone had problems mounting card when in recovery

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530527
download the update.zip
fastboot boot recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2.img
(make sure you use sapphire unless you have the hero radio and spl installed otherwise the hero recovery is needed if you have the cursorsense radio which effectivly makes the magic a hero)
apply the update.zip
then you should be able to fastboot the prev instructions

just fyi make sure u check your radio on the fastboot screen before using the hero or sapphire recovery - make sure you use the proper one!

update
Hey all my problem was also with the spl as well for some reason. I also loaded the newest rogers update instead which the combination did the trick...

Semi-bricked Rogers Magic - Please Help!

I'm an idiot and tried to flashboot a new ROM on my phone without an engineered SPL. I got the standard error
"failed <remote: signature verify fail>"
In my defense i'm a noob who only now understands that I can't remote fastboot using my current SPL.
Now my phone hangs on the ROGERS splash screen.
I can get into HBOOT, FASTBOOT and RECOVERY. However I do not have any previous .img files to flash (I created a backup a few months ago and now I can't find it).
I have searched this forum (and elsewhere) and I cannot find how to restore my phone (I find lots of threads saying you can, but none with any useful steps)
Fastboot menu says:

just booot in recovery mount ur sd card put any rom in it and flash

Thank you guys.
I did search and read tons of threads and how to's but without knowing exactly what to search for, it is really hard for a noob.
I got it all up and running now. Thanks again.
Ok now I have a new problem.
I upgraded my SPL to 1.33.2010.
I'm trying to upgrade my Radio next however fastboot just hangs. It recognizes the device but when I "flash radio" it just sits at "send" forever.
I have tried reinstalling all my drivers and the sdk tools. Same problem.
Anybody have ideas?
Are you trying to follow the Cursordroid's guide to update to Radio 6.35.x / SPL 1.76? In that case it's strange to hear the send process loops forever.
1. have you double checked fastboot recognises your device? (fastboot devices)
2. is your USB cable plugged?

Yes I am following Cursordriods guide and Amrons. I spent 12 hours and didn't go to bed last night working on this stupid problem. I was at my wits end. Hair sticking up, nervous eye and head twitches, rings around eyes, and 20 hail mary's later I tried an absolutely desperate move and plugged my USB cable into the back USB ports instead of the front ones.........it worked. I didn't know if I should cry or beat my computer with a baseball bat.
Anyway. Thank you to everyone who were helping me out. Nice community here.
Cursordriods Sense ROM rocks. Highly recommended.

help!! May have bricked my phone

I updated the Radio on my 32a then I went to Fastboot mode to load the hboot image and discovered that i get a (failed : remote not allowed) message everytime I try to flash anything. So I guess I need a goldcard the only problem is I can't boot up to reformat the SD and make a goldcard...
Any idea's??
I'm lost!!
Can someone make a Goldcard for me, on another phone? I don't know what to do,
Thanks in advance...
anyone???
I'll pay for a goldcard if someone sends me one, assuming I can use one made on another phone in my phone. I need a way to get past my Fastboot mode and I can't boot to recovery or get anywhere else... to make a Goldcard
HELP?!?!
i used my memory card that came with my phone to create a gold card and it worked perfectly well just make sure you follow the guide to the letter.
you cant use one from another phone as you have to get the CID from your phone which is unique from phone to phone.
i believe what you should of done was flash the image first then update the radio but just search the forums theres bound to be someone with the same problem or even a google search might help

What's your HBOOT version? I got that while upgrading my RADIO. All I had to do was install an engineering SPL first. Then I was able to flash the new SPL.
you need to post more info. what radio did u upgrade to and whats your spl/hboot? Also, what recovery did u use?
I also noticed you saying something about the blueLED, I thought you could still get into fastboot...
can you still get into fastboot? I'm confused, cause you went from being able to go into fastboot and then now it's completely dead?

I the current recovery is RA-magic-v1.2.3H and I was trying to upgrade to RA-hero-v1.6.2 and Hboot 1.76.2007.
I got the radio upgraded but when I go to Fastboot to flash the hboot i get the (Failure: remote not allowed) error. So I can't change anything with the current hboot. I'm guessing I need a goldcard since I can't get to recovery mode, but every set of instructions for making a Goldcard requires the phone to be in adb shell mode which i can't get too.
At this point i don't care if i get the new radio on or not I just want it working again. I was running the SuperD 1.9.3 ROM with the Old radio...
The Blue LED issue wasn't me, I dont know who that is or what that was about.. I CAN still get to fastboot
Um, is that an engineering SPL? I believe you need one before doing this.
Did you try flashing the old radio again? Also, how did you upgrade your radio? Did you use Fastboot or Recovery?
If you can't flash anything.. well I dunno what else to do, never seen this problem yet. Maybe someone else with some more knowledge can help you, but try searching. I'm sure you're not the only one who's been through this situation.
Give this a try, I have no idea if it works though.

help?...
If you flash an engineering SPL you'll be able to continue. Flash 1.33.2010 and then continue from there. That happened to me too.
If you can read:
Prerequisites:
- HTC Magic / Sapphire 32A
- Engineering SPL
----- 1.33.2005
----- 1.33.2009
----- 1.33.2010
----- If you boot into fastboot and have issues with "fastboot:remote not allow", then your SPL won't work. Upgrade to Engineering SPL before continuing.
----- If you do not have an Engineering SPL, download 1.33.2010 and flash through recovery before starting this procedure. Flash the SPL update.zip like any other update.zip file.

how do I flash it through recovery if I can't boot into recovery?
can your computer detect the device? can ADB detect it? Can you get into fastboot mode (Power+Back)? You could try to flash the engineer SPL (and the old radio) through command prompt:
Do it in this order:
Code:
fastboot flash radio Radio_HTC_PVT_32A_3.22.20.17.img
fastboot flash hboot hboot-1.33.2010.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-sapphire-v1.5.2H.img
fastboot erase system -w
fastboot reboot-bootloader
The files you'll need are all at this topic.
perhaps you missed the part about any fastboot command giving me a
FAILURE <remote: not allow> error
The one thing that gives me hope is that I get about 1-2 seconds of response from adb during boot up before it shuts down and starts the boot process again. If I knew how to run an update.zip from adb shell in one or two commmands maybe i have a chance at loading the old radio or engineering SPL or something. If I try to get to recovery mode it locks up after a second and I can't run the update through the menu...

Hi
A friend gave me his htc magic because he crashed him.
he has already rooted his device
he put 2.1 rom and he decided to put another "fastest" and he crash his device
he told me that radio is bugged and his rom too.
I think with what i read on this forum that it's semi bricked because i can go to the Fastboot with pushing back and Power
When i put him on regulary i get Rogers screen then a Black screen.
What do you think about it ? bricked ? semi bricked ? Recoverable ?

If you can't get into recovery you may need to flash the 1.6.2H recovery image from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
and if you can't flash recovery (due to the SPL being Perfected) and you want to try something from scratch (you may have downgrade the new radio back to 3.xx via this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=605239 )
You can try something like Cyanogenmod with this 32A Wiki Guide. (Though I *Think* you'll need to get a Engineering SPL to get rid of any Perfecting)

ok thanks i'm gonna test =)
but now i have another probleme.

i try to solve that probleme to test to unbrick my phone

Recovery is dead

You'll probably need to downgrade to an Engineering SPL for your phone if you are unable to do fastboot flash radio radio.img from the command line.
(I'd look more for you but I'm currently coding a website for a client).
i tryed to make the first part of http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream/Magic32A_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
"if it says 'Remote Not Allow' or similar, your SPL may need to be changed"
They are exactly say that in the commands prompt so i need to flash my Spl i'm actualy trying =)
and i think that i have to make a Gold card to flash my spl
Edit
I tryed to Downgrade my SPL with a tutorial in my language
"http://swissdroid.wordpress.com/2010/02/23/32a-changer-le-spl-ou-le-radio-de-votre-magic/"
And i cannot flash anything they alway say "sending 'xxx' <xxkb>... FAILED (remote: Not allow)
Ans i don't know how i could make a goldcard with a bricked phone.
So What can i do ? ..
The "remote not allowed" means the SPL is perfected. Perfected means that it's "Locked".
You have to make a gold card:
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/14/how-to-root-your-mytouch-3g/
Once you have a gold card then you download a new SPL and put it onto the card (read instructions from there):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4332591
Engineerings SPL v1.33.2010
Once you have an Engineering (prefered) or non-perfected SPL you'll be able to flash what you need without the 'remote not allowed' message.
But I must warn you, make sure you read the instructions several times before doing anything and verify that its for your exact device.

You can't do adb from fastboot, only from the recovery. If you flashed a new SPL (Engineering) You need to then flash the appropriate recovery/radio/hboot, then when you turn off the phone you press and hold down Home + Power to get into Recovery mode, once there then you can do adb, or you can mount the USB and copy over an update.zip or rom file.
Kind of hoping someone with experience on the older Magic/MyTouch (32B) chimes in.

The new SPL is placed on the goldcard, then you do volume down + power in order to Hboot, doing so will cause it to update the SPL package. You don't flash an SPL with fastboot command .
yes but i can't make the goldcard for flashing my SPL because i need to make adb commands so what can i do ? ..
I'm sorry i really don't understand :$
It mean that my magic is dead ? ..
How did you write your fastboot info if you cant access fastboot mode? I cant believe that someone could memorize every detail, including the exact list of options.
Its just that that SPL is a perfected one...you could try re-flashing it by using a goldcard via fastboot. Or try running RUU.

So how could i get my CID ?
And Kbeezie Told me that it's because it's in recovery that we can use those commands.
So how can i make the goldcard ?
That what i don't understand :$

What to do if you DONT have s-off, and recovery takes a dump on you (and cant boot)

This may have been posted before but this just SERIOUSLY saved my ass this morning.
Only use this method if you phone will not:
Boot into your:
Recovery
ROM
Anything else besides HBOOT (hold vol. down and turn on phone)
Get an RUU from somewhere and pull the rom.zip file
Rename it to HERCIMG.zip
Put on ROOT of sdcard
Reboot to hboot as per instructions above
If you renamed it right it will say:
SD Checking...
Loading.....[HERCDiag.zip]
No image!
etc.etc.etc
then
Loading...[HERCIMG.zip]
You will see a progress bar on the upper right of the screen.
It will ask you if you want to upgrade. Press Action (trackball btn) for yes.
***YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING! Root/files/etc. just like if you flashed it with the RUU setup file***
After it finishes you now have a working hero again
Very helpful post. Saved me once.
Also, a tad off topic, but if you are S-OFF, you can flash the recovery only (clockworkmod tested). This might save some time vs a total reflash.
google clockwork recovery, find the 2.5.0.1 img file for the heroc. Get an android-info.txt from an exisiting HERCIMG.zip (either find one on xda in this forum, or follow OP instructions and get it from ROM.zip) and zip it along with the clockwork recovery .img file. Rename it to HERCIMG.zip and flash from hboot.
You can also create custom RUU with a clockwork recovery by replacing the stock recovery img in an HERCIMG.zip with the clockwork recovery .img, and then flashing. You will get sprint stock but with clockwork recovery instead of the stock recovery.
Just a few tips I've learned. Remember mine requires S-OFF, which is opposite of what the OP is working with.
Well this is very helpful.
BUT! Here is the issue I am now having...
My phone wont boot into android... OR recovery (stock).
I know the recovery is stock since I just flashed the RUU from the carrier.. So I am thinking maybe a corrupt partition?
Major worry I am having is I did flash the engineering spl however it is still in s-on mode (dunno why) so I cant even boot into a custom recovery to flash back the old spl. Is it possible to flash the spl with the method you mentioned? If so I will do that and then if it still doesn't boot (I know it wont btw) I will take it in store.

I tried the eng-spl also to get fastboot working but that didn't seem to work either. Not sure why. I used the other S-OFF method flashed via clockwork.
This wouldn't be an issue if we could use fastboot on our phones (I always get access denied). I think the eng-spl was supposed to enable the use of fastboot.
If you think the eng-spl worked, try using fastboot to wipe your partitions. I think there was talk about this in the firerat mod thread. I don't recall the exact commands, but it's run like adb is from the command line. I think fastboot system -w erase but I could be wrong... probably best to check the firerat mod thread.
btw about your question, I am not sure if you can flash anything else via hboot other than what I tried. At least I think this is what you were asking.

Well, if you are S-ON right now, you can't flash anything that isn't signed with HTC's private key I believe.
You should be able to get to fastboot via hboot menu... just boot into hboot (power off, vol dwn + power on) and see if there is an option to get to fastboot (I think it's home key? I forget). Thing is... we can't do anything using fastboot (as end users) because it's turned off. The eng-spl was/is supposed to turn that on as well as S-OFF if I understand correctly.
Since you tried the eng-spl, have you tried hooking up to USB, booting into HBOOT and then jumping to fastboot and seeing if you can do any fastboot commands?
Sadly, the only two ways I know to flash something is either via a recovery like clockwork, or via S-OFF via HBOOT. Fastboot is possible, but like I said before it seems to have been turned off..
fastboot works after you flash the eng-spl. you'll have to look for the commands to use it though. ive used it once after flashing the eng-spl just to verify it worked.
Well, I did flash the ENG-SPL like I said and I did try to use fastboot from HBOOT, however nothing ever worked except for the fact that I could see that fastboot detected it when using "fastboot devices".. fastboot reboot wouldn't even work though. It would say that it worked but it actually did not.
No biggie though, as like I said I flashed the RUU to wipe it. It still wouldnt boot but that's ok cause I got a replacement today
Awesome post, thanks. I'm tagging this should the unfortunate event happen.

Good info thanks. I think I might have been S-OFF via unrevoked already so maybe that is why the eng-spl didn't work for me (as far as being able to use fastboot, I still got access denied errors).
OP: glad you got it fixed the easy way

stuck in bootloop help plz

Hello,
I'm really hoping you can help me out, for I have got myself into a bit of a pickle.
I have been eagerly awaiting ICS, and downloaded mrT69's PG58IMG.zip ics.
Now my phone is stuck in a loop of booting, I'll hear the music start up and quietly brilliant screen and it just keeps repeating. I've tried a system recovery from the hboot menu no dice, I've tried recopying pg58img.zip and receive an error wrong CID or similar, I'm a total plonker for bothering and now i'm just desperate to simply get my phone back working.
Anyway help would be great,
The details I got from my phone are
HBOOT 1.27 000
10.14.9035 01 M
Jan 13 2012 17:33
* My phone is totally stock, this was the first thing I've attempted on it, and will be my last.
Please oh please help you're my only hope.
Cheers
What software version were you on before attempting all this? This is the most important thing to know before you try anything as it helps you find the RUU for you phone
Thanks for your reply,
Is there an easy way to find out what software?, I backed up my sdcard, if the info is stored, but it was the latest gingerbread I think, totally stock and the phone is a white sensation from asia, z710e I beleive, as you can tell I'm pretty hopeless with this stuff.
If you have done the flash please reboot to RECOVERY and WIPE the CACHE partition. After this reboot again to RECOVERY and you will see that everything is on ext4.
I'm working on a solution but I can't provide this at the moment to cover this problem during the flash process.
I would try this if you haven't already!!

When I select Recovery, I get the green circle arrow icon then a red triangle with exclamation mark, and nothing else.
*** I've now read up and now know that's normal, I've cleared the cache, same looping.

Repeating means rebooting ?
Your device was S-OFF?
It happened to me as well (or something like that) when installing a theme not suitable for GB, i am not going to tell you that i have the right solution but here what i did (and it worked!!) to recover my Sensation:
Look for and store in you sdcard:
- PG58IMG.zip (i add the file, it converts HBOOT version into 1.17.000)
- ROM Real_Stock_Experience (can give you dropbox link to download when you do not find it, it is 354MB)
Flash HBOOT 1.17.0000 from Recovery (when your device enters in HBOOT should ask you to appy update automaticly) and after that flash that ROM (it is a zip file), device shuold start normally, after that you can flash latest RUU.
Hope it helps.

That is probably because you have got an Asian ROM, i can only suggest you to make your device SuperCid (11111111), that will allow you to flash it. Look in ROM forum to find out how, now i remember i also had to do it, done it with device in HBOOT and connected to PC via USB, you need to enter certain commands in DOS.
Rgds,
well, I've tried for the last hour or so to get it going, and no luck, I'm more than likely going to throw the phone into the wall, at least I'll have some satisfaction.
i've tried using adb and adb devices in cmd, but it won't find the device, It also was a major pain to get the drivers to work, it seems to have but it doesn't want to cooperate, also it's mentioned to enable usd debugging, how on earth do I do this when the phone won't even boot?, I'm really running out of patience with the damn thing,
I reliase a solution could be changing to superCID and installing that fix, but I can't even get the phone to be recognized in windows to change it?
so I'll try and provide more info, it's an Unbranded white sensation from Hong Kong, I simply want to get it back again, can I find a firmware that is for the cid and flash it to accept?,
I just don't know what to do now, certainly didn't think this would be my evening tonight, lesson learnt,
It only uses adb when the phone is booted, so that won't work
Go into HBOOT and let us know what it says above 1.27.0000

Well I took a big punt and downloaded a ship rom i didn't know what ara meant but do now, my phone has turned a little middle eastern but I easily changed to english, which I remembered I had to do for my phone when I first purchased.
I made sure to get the same radio version, and have tested wifi and receiving calls, so as far as I can tell it functions again.
A very stressful evening,
but at least it's back and running,
appreciate everyones assistance

Which one did you download?
RUU_Pyramid_HTC_ARA_1.45.415.5_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_220005_signed
is the one I got, interesting enough, I tried the asian one afterwards and got a cannot update error, have tested phone and still works, so it didn't do anything but I must had some luck to download one that the phone liked.
Use 1.50.401.1 (latest unbranded EU RUU)
Fixing boot loop issue after "Incorrect CID" error
Thanks to "xl VipeR lx" for the SuperCID guide and Joaquinf's guide on How to flash ICS 3.32 firmware.
Okay. Here's a step-by-step guide to fixing this boot loop if you're in a confused state:
The issue is due to problems with your CID, which means we'll have to fix that. First, plug your SD card into the computer and delete the PG58IMG.zip file from your root, then put the SD card back into the phone and keep it turned off.
1) Download the ADB tool from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=672540&stc=1&d=1312138079
2) Make a folder named "adb" on your C:\ drive, and unzip the file into this folder (the path should look like this: C:\adb)
3) Open command prompt and type: cd c:\adb (keep command prompt open)
4) Reboot the phone into fastboot and then connect it to your PC
(in a second, your fastboot screen should show "fastboot USB")
5) Enter the command "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" in command prompt
6) Enter the command "fastboot reboot-bootloader"
7) Enter the command "fastboot getvar cid" (make sure your CID is now 11111111)
8) Enter the command "fastboot reboot"
9) Turn off your phone, put the SD back in your PC and copy the v3.32 PG58IMG.zip back onto the root, then reinsert it into the phone.
10) Reboot back to fastboot and the firmware should now install without error.
11) Now you need to plug the SD back in the PC and delete the PG58IMG.zip from your root, then reinsert it into the phone again.
11) Finally, boot back into fastboot and you could now go on to Superwipe and then install your ICS ROM as you'd originally intended.
you have to install htc sync to use adb commands
