Hey guys. My name is Jordan. I have been on Android Central and XDA Develipers for a while now and have been working on starting to do my own reviews and stuff and have started a website I am looking to see what peoples opinions are. I have my first post up there and plan on doing more just want to get some opinions from the people on AC. Please let me know. Link removed by moderator
Oh where to begin. For me I have come from many Android Devices such as the Moto Droid 1, Droid 2, Droid X, HTC Aria, Samsung Captivate, and Dell Streak along with getting to play with many others such as the HTC Evo, LG Ally, LG Vortex,
all of the LG Optimus series, Nexus 1 and Nexus S. All of these phones have been fun and I have been in the constant toss up of weather to stick with my Captivate or move over to one of the new phones. I work for AT&T currently and we have 3 new phones that are coming out within the next few months. I took a look at everything and have been sitting there for about 2 weeks and finally decided it was time to switch. I loved my Captivate but it was behind the curve and got tired of waiting for the offical 2.2 update to come out.
So after I decided if I wanted to switch it was time for me to pick which one of these 3 new phones I wanted to go with. So I sat down and did my research and looked at everything I could. The first phone to get knocked off was the Samsung Infuse. The phone seems like it will be cool but it had some negatives. After having the Captivate and waiting for the update that kind of got me fed up with Samsung. I know that it is partly At&T's fault but is also part Samsung's also. The other thing about the phone is that it is a 4.5 inch screen. Witht that size it is pusing it beyone beleif. I personally feel anything larger then 4.3 is going to be to big. Yes the Super Amoled + screen will be nice and so will the 16 gig internal storage but to me the 2 main problems I had with it were way to large of negatives. So that left me in a toss up between the Atrix and the Inspire. I looked at the Inspire and figured that I really couldnt find any negatives about the phone. The Atrix
on the other hand is hard. I like the fact that it is Dual Core but it is also a negative where it will suck a lot of battery. Next I hate the price tag. $199 and $459 for the laptop dock. That is flat out rediculous. The $199 for the phone is fine but the Dock is to expensive. Next is Moto Blur. I am not a fan it seems to slow phones down and is a big pain in the butt for most users. So after all of that I decided the Inspire was the way to go.
So I picked up the Inspire with a 4G sim card and have been using it for the last few days. The phone has been running really smooth.
First off is going to be overall looks of the phone. The phone is absolutely beautiful. The size is just right it isnt to small, not to big, but right in between. I like the look. It dosent look like a cheap plastic phone either. It seems like it has a good build quality to it. I like where they have the buttons positioned and am happy that the speaker grill and buttons are all chrome finished. It gives the phone a nice look. The battery door is the one big negative. It is a pain to pull off but if you are a person that dosent see yourself doing this often then you will be perfectly okay with this. Another think that is kind of inconvinent is the position of the 3.5 MM headphone jack.
Next I want to go into the overall User Interface of the phone. The UI is awsome. I have always been a fan of HTC Sense and this definantly dose it justice with it being the newest version of Sense. The clock widget with the weaher and temprature is awsome.
It dose not slow the phone down at all. It is very snappy and I like the set up of it. Along with sense you get a lot of cool backgrounds that are cool and fun to use. With the new sense you are also able to create and account that will alow you to track your phone if it is ever lost and maybe even wipe the phone which I am not completely sure about that but I beleive you can.
Next is the screen. So the screen is something that I was really surprised about with this phone. To be quite honest it was my biggest fear in switching. Coming from the Super Amoled to the LCD wasnt bad at all. To be quite honest they look almost identical. The phone displays pictures and video quality very well. It works awsome and is clear I have no complaints. Along with that the screen is also very responsive. It dose not have any issues with not responding to my touch and it is clear and very snappy. Part of this snappiness is because of the nice 1 GHZ proccessor.
So how about that 8 megapixel camera? It is a very nice clear camera for both still and video quality. I have used it for multiple purposes so far. One of the big ones is when I have been working on my girlfriends car the last few days. I was able to take pictures of parts that were broken or things that may be causing the issue and they were clear and able to displayed perfectly. I sent the pictures to multiple people and they were all very surpirsed. Another nice feature is that you are able to zoom in very far with the camera. It was needed for a few pictures and kept it very clear along with a few dark shots that LED flash helped quite a bit. Video is perfect also. I was doing a few videos for a friend that was
doing some random BMX stuff also. Worked good and was able to send them to my friends for them to use as they want.
So what good is a phone if it has crappy call quality. I have used many different phones as previously noted and to be quite honest this is one of the most clear call qualities I have ever had. I have called friends on different carriers and different devices and all said that I sound clear and I was not muffled and using speaker phone was the same thing just fully clear. On my end calls came through clear and wasnt muffled also sounded amazing with the speaker phone. Both spearks are clear and allow you to turn the phone up quite a bit if need be. Another very good quality.
Signal Strength is awsome I have not had any dropped calls and seem to be running in Hspa+ and HSPDA. I have gotten signal in a few areas where I previously
would not have been able to.
So the last thing and one of the most important is Battery life. It is something that could be better. I have tuned setting and the phone seems to only get me through about 7 or 8 hours with minimal texting and internet browsing and a few phone calls that come up to less then 1 hour. This is alright but is not the best. I was able to get a 12 hour day out of my Captivate but this is something I can work around and that isnt a big issue for me beacuse I am normally out for that time and have a tendancy to charge my phone multiple times a day without even thinking about it. So for some people this may be a major negative but for me not so much.
So overall I have fallen in love with this phone and am happy with it. I will be posting some benchmark scores here soon. I will continue using this phone and can not see any issues with what I used to have.
Yeah so as the title says, a guy offered his mint condition BlackBerry Torch for my Captivate. I have never owned a BlackBerry so I don't know how to feel about this deal so...
Would you make this trade? Is it fair?
Thanks
In my personal opinion, that is an awful deal. I feel that blackberries are just plain silly.
well do you like having apps? besides email, business crap, and a few games?
do you like customizability? custom roms? do you want the blackberry keyboard? (touch or not sucks)
do you want a super-power email messenger? or an android phone?
only your habbits and tastes can decide but i would NEVER
ask yourself why does he want what you have?
ill sell you a mint condition penny for your car!
This is a deal on his part but certainly not yours.
I came from Blackberry (had a Bold 9700 then a Torch) Both bought outright no upgrade because I needed a new phone at the time and didn't want to wait the 9 months for an upgrade. I bought the torch and returned it not 5 days later because there is nothing you can do to the phone to make it yours.
I would stick with the Cappy. the torch is so limited on what you can do with it. It is almost like renting a house vs buying a house. If you rent you have to play by someone else's rules. The Cappy is like buying a house its your to build a deck and paint the walls and pull the carpet! I would tell that dude that if he wants a Cappy to check Ebay or buy one!
NO DEAL!
i was testing a torch for my company for a couple of weeks.....HORRIBLE!
i mean..... its a blackberry. it doesnt actually DO anything
My bro got the Torch and I got the Captivate. Without getting into all the hairy details, let's say I love my Captivate and would not want the Torch.
I can take a crap in a bag for you if you will give me your captivate.
If it's in mint condition, get it, sell it on craigslist and get another Captivate and profit!
Funny I just did the same but without trade. I got the torch on release week and after a few months didn't care for it as much and bought a captivate outright.
Like the second post said.it really comes.down to preference. BB is a great phone with great communication abilities, but you lose the apparently and multimedia. I hated you tube on the bb because it wouldn't buffer while paused and constantly stopped through playback. And the processor in it wasn't made for multimedia. When watching.movies the sound wouldn't sync to the picture and id have to pause and play to sync it back up.
It did get better battery life and the keyboard is a plus, but after a few months the slider mechanism would make noises and become loose. I use to think the captivate felt cheap because of the weight being so light, but the torch feels bulky to me, but you'll probably get used to that. The torch does email and instant notifications much better, and if I remember one of the most missed features is the led notification you have on top of your phone when you have new messages.
Call quality was better on my torch and signal was usually not an issue. Of course gps works in it too but if you feel the phone is in even condition it isn't a bad trade. BB usually sells for a bit higher on ebay, especially to foriegn countries.

Keep your cappy!
Thanks guys!
I just have no idea about BB...so I read your posts, and watched some vids...yeah no wonder he wants to get rid of it, it doesnt do anything LOL
Thanks again for the great input : )
Its price is said to be $399 USD for the 16gb version.
Samsung has improved:
Its hardware is stolen from the SGS2, except for the camera, which makes only 720p vids.
"Voice Call
The GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus calling function has been upgraded to let you make and receive voice calls privately by using Receiver Mode in public places. You no longer need a headset or Bluetooth for voice calls."
The speaker phone is on the front enabling normal phone usage, Unlike the previous Tab!
Oh, yeah, and Honeycomb 3.2 . How are they making voice call possible on that, I don't know. But its Samsung, so anything is possible i Guess
Here is the homepage:
http://www.samsung.com/global/microsite/galaxytab/7.0/feature.html?type=find
It is also thinner, under 1cm thickness, and lighter than the old one.
The only downside, is its size , and possibly its screen resolution (1024x600). The dpi Should be pretty horrible, just like the Tab 7 was.
What do we Streakers think? Is this a little over the top, or just the size of your pocket?
This or the Galaxy Note?
i´m definetly in to it! Love the screensize and the new ability to make calls private. i only need my device to make just a few calls, so it will be my next device!
I don't get it. Does it make calls over cell networks? If so, who? Or just wifi? Do you hold it up to your head?
Either way, I just think that if it is too big to fit in your front pocket, you wont carry it with you all the time. Then if you want to look something up your out of luck...
I saw another manufacturer that made a 7" phone/tablet. Ill post it here when I find the link...

The Gtab 7+ was apparently always able to make calls, but until the recent update it was only able to make speakerphone calls, the update allowed it to use it's phone speaker to make normal type calls (yea it's really wierd how they managed that)
It basically conceptually an even bigger streak 5, a phone speaker in the front and a larger speaker or something (or mabye just that one at full blast) for normal sounds.
It's got a full modem with voice unlike the s7 which is data only (possibly)

Did you even open the link about the phone I had in the first post? It has all the answers to your questions!
its really about g0d damn time....I think theres is a market for it. was waiting for something like this..
the question is what US network will allow voice and data on this thing.. hmm.....
Where did you get the $399 price point? I kind of doubt about this price since they did price the S2 at $700. Hmm, but it's too big for me to be a phone anyway. Hope the Galaxy Note will be priced around $400 . Man can dream!
Nevermind, but to answer your question, yes I did click the link and read the entire add...
I think some of the people here are confused; All of the Galaxy tab 7's, including the original version have the phone radio in them. It's just all 4 major US carriers had the phone disabled, but it can be turned back on. I have had the first version almost a year now, and it is the only phone I use now.
Wifi version is up on best buy. Quad band is up for preorder on Amazon. Really hopes this comes to US with 3G. Can't afford to pay much more than $600 though. This would be a dream on honeycomb with phone integrated.

Is it easily enabled by flashing software? Compatible with At&t voice/3g? Does it take your regular phone sim? Does it fit in your pocket?
Thanks in advance, this is starting to sound like an interesting option...

yes(well not that easy for some),yes(although AT&T might say you're on the incorrect data plan; hit or miss),yes(reg. SIM), and yes(should fit in your pocket provided your about 6 foot or so, or a real heavy set fella) and I think you can find the original fairly cheap too.
How it is supposed to be carried? My Streak lives in the pocket.
The Galaxy Tab 7 cannot be considered to be use as a daily phone due to its size. Either you constantly carry a bag or you have really really big pockets to fit that in. In my opinion, the Tab 7.0 is useful only for home/indoor usage - i find it difficult to carry such a device outside. Also, if you make a call with it, OMG, this is what I would call holding a brick!!
the EXACT SAME THING can be said of 4.0" phones, then they came out
then the same can be said of 4.5" phones, but they exist
then 5.0" phones, and yet there's the streak.
7" is a bit unwieldly, but it depends on your situation, i've handled a s7 a fair bit and i wouldnt be against juggling it and my s5 as a phone if the s7 could actually make calls.
There's some times where I'd carry around a s7 regardless if I wasnt just borrowing it on and off, those times i'd keep the s5 at home and make calls on the s7 given the chance.
I cant imagine someone owning a tablet without a smartphone, there's too much synergy with having both vs just a tab and a dumbphone.
My hands are still big enough to hold a s7 with 1 hand, it's just about as wide as I can one-hand, anything larger would be because it's the same width but smaller bezels. one-hand-ability and having an actual voice modem would be my only criteria for tablet/smartphone differentation.
I always wear jeans when out, and the s7 fits perfectly, but that's just me. When I have it on hand i carry both the s5 and s7 back to back in the same pocket.
for quite a few of us, the phone calling part is the least important part in our devices, if it works reasonably well that's all we need. We simply dont care if it's super comfortable or call quality, as long as the ocassional call comes though without hassle. The s7 is not at all uncomfortable when held as a phone against your head (depending on how big your hands are), if you ignore the fact it's configured all wrong to make calls (speaker/mic is positioned for video chatting and not voice calls)
documentation is up on tmobile website.. user manual (250+pages), reset your device, and tech specs, etc... looks like no voice calls/phone app/ caller Ids
welp, just have to wait for the XDA community to get this thing calling.. or hope for a Euro voice enabled one...
I'll be keeping an eye on this.
I bought my original tab from onthego solutions. I don't know if they'll have the new version, but mine was designed for the Rogers network so it works perfect in the u.s. with at&t. This also avoided any contract commitment so if it does come to the u.s. it would cost about that much anyway (for out of contract purchase) I've scanning online daily to see if the "full" (voice modem) version has surfaced anywhere yet.
Everyone is talking about how hard it is to hold this thing to your ear for a phone call. I use a bluetooth most of the time. The original doesn't have a ear speaker, it is bluetooth, or speaker phone (which is still great in a noisy room)
I have even seen ads on craigslist locally from people who will unlock the phone modem in these for a few bucks, but when it first came out in the u.s. someone here on xda posted a hack for doing just that (t-mobile phone I believe) so it's not anything new at this point.
confirmed voice calls in indonesia and malaysia..
now to see if flashing these firmwares over ..say... a tmobile version will enable voice calls.
hoping it can so i can upgrade my current galaxy tab
What's your all-time favorite phone? I'm just wondering If I'am the only person who still prefer to use phones such as Nokia model 3210, Nokia 5110 and alike instead of the current devices and smartphones. Why? Because the battery lasts longer, they're definitely more durable and way more cheaper.
What do you guys think?
My Sony Ericsson C905A (AT&T variant). It was a pretty unique phone, being one of the first to have an 8mp camera, and also sported a xenon flash, so you could take proper photos at night. I took some pretty nifty pictures with that "phone" back then, when most people were still using 1.3mp or 2.0mp camera phones.
It had its definite flaws. It required a proprietary connector to charge/sync, and used that connector with an adapter to use headphones or aux audio jack (which it didn't #$^%ing come with). It also used Sony's Micro M2 instead of microSD, which cost quite a bit more.
In addition to loving that camera/phone, it was a gateway device for me. Back then, for me a phone was just a phone. Texting too, of course. I rolled my eyes at iPhone and BlackBerry users that needed to stay connected all the time. But part of the deal when buying that phone was it was only $50 on-contract ($350 off) if I signed up for the internet option (which didn't use "data"), which was $15/mo, for 6 months. So basically, paying $140 for the phone, then I'd cancel the internet. But soon I realized that having internet/email in my pocket was extremely handy, even on that dinky, low-res screen, so I kept for the life of the phone.
Unfortunately, the life of the phone was barely over a year, after somehow the LCD cracked and started bleeding (no idea how, I never dropped the phone). When I called for a warranty replacement, they no longer offered that phone, and tried to pawn off some Samsung slider with a paltry 2.0mp camera. I explained that the reason I bought that phone, and in fact switched from Verizon to AT&T was to get that phone. So I was offered a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, which had literally came out the day before - simply because it also had an 8mp camera. I thought there was no way I would be offered that phone, but when they did, I said "uh...yeah. Sure."
That Xperia X10 was great at first, but slowly died (despite being given a brand new one, not a refurb), and its replacement died a quicker death. But it was my first smartphone, and I've never regretted getting into Android.
Already plenty of these threads - here is one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575128 another http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959930 and another http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2229761 amongst others in the off topic section.
Good afternoon all!
I am an android user who has been on the MetroPCS/T-Mobile network for some time. I got tired of their selection about 7 months ago and decided to venture into GSM phones from Europe/Asia. My choice during the holidays was the POSH E500 TITAN, a very great phone for its price ($170 at the time). However, very recently it took a nasty spill and the silicon case that it comes with isn't much help, so it rendered the mic useless and messed up my SD Slot, making that not work either.
I just got the phone less than a year ago and I don't want to throw it away. I could still use a headset device for calls if need be, but the kicker would be the SIM slot for my music. However, I cannot find workarounds and its frustrating.
I did consider, however, this phone:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00R5QDQNA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3S5S99TUAZMWF
Now if you guys have better suggestions, I am all ears if you know any phone out there worth nabbing for $120 - $150.
Thanks!
