is there a yahoo messenger for Leo??
Not a native one, but there are IM apps that login to yahoo:
Palringo http://www.palringo.com/ -> Great graphics, lack of features.
Beejive http://www.beejive.com/ -> not so great graphics, but tons of features and stable.
You can also use Fring (www.fring.com) or Nimbuzz (www.nimbuzz.com)

The above sites are all block here in UAE.
Palringo is not lacking in features at all. It has improved immensely in the past few months (particularly in the betas), and now they offer a premium membership with really great additional features for $4.99 a year.

I can't find anything on the internet about the premium service. I'm very interested in such a thing. Can you please point me to a link where i can find out some more info about it?
Thanks.
EDIT: Found it!

Hey guys,
Coming to you to discuss what twitter program you use on your phone and why do you?
I'm looking for a program and I'm looking for ideas on why to use one over the other
using twikini on my diamond2, works as a charm and seems to be well-designed con: no freeware
I also use Twikini. Not free but pretty cheap, and you get your choice of a second app when you buy it. There is a bug that it won't save your password which is kind of annoying. Supposed to be fixed "soon", but I've been waiting two months for that fix.
Before Twikini I used Quakk but wasn't overly excited about it. I'm still very open to new Twitter ideas, so I'm interested to see if anything else is mentioned in this thread.
Pocketwit seems to be the best for my need, looks nice and is easy to use
+1 for PocketTwit, i have tried most of the other freebies and keep coming back to it. It's also nice to have thumb scrolling on an "older" device without TouchFlo.

+2 for pocketwit. Works a charm on my Touch Dual.
I also try others and keep coming back. I think its a well thought out app.
+1 for Twikini!
I usually stick to freeware alternatives, but Twikini is really superior in navigation and speed!
Just loaded PockeTwit on my Kaiser. Initial impression is that it will bump Twikini off my phone. Love the interface. Love that I can read the entire tweet from the main screen (Twikini makes you tap on the item to read longer tweets). The side menu thing is pretty slick. It looks like a winner.
Hehe it seems to be a battle between PockeTwit and Twikini!

Just use the internet browser on your phone.
Another vote for PockeTwit. Great interface and very functional. It has a few quirks I don't like, but in most respects it's very good software.
definitely pocketwit!
PockeTwit again.
I use Pocketwit it has the best interface I have tried, and the features are there so everyhthing is at ur fingertips! nice side slide-out navigation too.
I have tried almost every app out there, nothing beats PT!
lol, PockeTwit! Well due to your recommendations, I did try it, and I like it!
However, I don't like the fact that there's no menu->exit function type of thing, unless i did not see properly?
Twaddle
If people are still looking for a Twitter client, I've just released the first version of my twitter client (Twaddle) - available from twaddle.mobi. Please feel free to give it a spin and send me any feed back.

Props to you, looks pretty slick!
Will give it a shot
I would tell you to have a page that includes all the features you have.
I had to digg through your site to be able to see what it does (geotagging, short url service, etc etc)

Good idea, thanks. I've included a page (on the right hand side) that lists the current feature set which I'll try and keep up to date.
If you have any questions, problems, or feedback when trying it out you can contact me on @TwaddleWM, through here, or email (support AT twaddle DOT mobi)
Any of these have good geotagging features?
Post with your geotag / find tweeds 'nearby'?
Also would like geotagging to work like in google maps (which is pretty much instantaneous and works indoors vs GPS chip which can take 1+ minutes to get a fix)

Twaddle can geotag your post but does not yet feature finding tweets that have occurred near you.

Yup! Twaddle finds your location the same way Google Maps does when not using GPS. It grabs your mobile tower (That's cell tower for Americans details and looks them up in Google's database. This has the advantage of being a lot quicker and not requiring GPS. Downside is it's a lot less accurate than GPS.
Info on Twaddle can be found at http://twaddle.mobi/. Or visit http://get.twaddle.mobi with your phone's browser and it'll download the latest version.
Spotify-like app!!
Some time ago, i found this on the ADC2 and decided to keep the apk. The grooveshark people decided to release it just for premium users but the old one was free and it still works. And it does just great!

For us WM people, I still use this

costs a cup of coffee but works great.
Dude that is amazing, thanks!
yes scoobmd, it's for android only
Is there a later version of this app that works without VIP? This one FCs a lot on my Droid.
With the influx of US-TM HD2 owners coming up soon, one of the things I think they might ask for is a Yelp application. I'm guessing this because I wish I had one! It seems every other mobile OS besides Symbian has a native app, but we're stuck with using the mobile site! We don't want to be associated with those Nokia people do we?
If you aren't familiar with Yelp, it's a review site for pretty much any business you can think of - very popular for restaurants, bars, etc. I know people in the US use it a lot. Yelp has a UK/Canada presence as well, not sure how popular it is.
As mentioned, we can currently go to m.yelp.com and search, but it's not ideal since you have to type in your location, type in what you're looking for, and almost makes you not want to use it.
If you get the Yelp app for iPhone, webOS, Android, BB, etc., it'll use your phone's 'network triangulation' or GPS to automatically show you what's around you. Of course, once you have that, you can filter by category (restaurant, shopping, etc.), and sort by rating (and other various features.)
If you click on an item of interest, you can read the reviews, get details on the store (location, hours, etc.), and if the app is developed enough - write reviews, post pictures, and be a contributing member of the site.
Yelp has an API that seems pretty easy and robust, where requests are passed along like so
Code:
Sample Request:
[url]http://api.yelp.com/business_review_search?term=yelp&lat=37.788022&long=-122.399797&radius=10&limit=5&ywsid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX[/url]
And you get a crapload of data back, all nicely formatted and easy to handle.
More info here: http://www.yelp.com/developers
TBH, I would try and code it myself, but I'd only be able to create a backend, maybe (never coded for WM before.) The GUI is the most important part since a lot of the heavy lifting is done with the API (otherwise, we'd have to scrape and... ugh.)
I'm sure I'm not the only one that would be interested in such an app, and I'm willing to pay for it. I'll start a bounty of $20 for anyone interested in developing it! All I ask for release is a touch-friendly Yelp reader that transmits current location. Further yelp-contributing features can be developed later @devs discretion.
Maybe Aloqa could help?
Hi Mazzarin,
I am using Aloqa, by default it shows Cafes, Restaurants, "what's hot", Sights, Bars and Cubs, Movies, Wikipedia, Fashion and last.fm.
You can add other channels or create your own.
All the best,
Peter
Aloqa and Yelp
Aloqa has a Yelp channel as well... but...
I would LOVE to have Yelp... +1
I will also put in $10 bounty for this.
p_fr1968: Thanks for the heads up. I'm downloading it now veeerrry slowly. I looked up the app on Marketplace and it seems to have people that either love it or absolutely hate it so lets see!
taimoorhusain: I think I convinced a dev to do it, hopefully we'll see a release soon!
Only had a very quick look at this, shouldn't be too muh hassle writing an app for this, I'd have to dev it for windows then port it WM (as I'm new to the 3.5 cf so don't know what it can and more importantly can't do)
Tried aloqa... it works okay. Seems buggy, doesn't have kinetic scrolling, and only does GPS OR GSM location, not both. I'll write the devs with my thoughts and maybe they'll fix it up! But it DOES have Yelp!
djingonthenet - That would be cool if you could do it, but like I mentioned in the above post, a dev who already has a running app has stated he'll do it. More competition or something I guess?!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619329
^Next2Me is the app.

well I'll have a look anyway, maybe knock up a basic version then see how it goes from there. is the next2me app just for USA locs or does it work in the UK as well?
At the moment, next2me uses google local so... pretty much everywhere.

Did you ever find a Yelp one? I know you mentioned the developer of Next2Me incorporating it into that (nice) app; but it doesn't seem to have happened.
I find Aloqa's interface a bit scruffy. I noticed there's an app for Qype in the uk app store (Qype's like Yelp but better for Uk/Europe; bit sketchy for U.S.) but I still can't find anything for Yelp in the U.S. or otherwise
Does the Yelp iphone app let you leave your own reviews (like Qype does)? I had a quick look at the Yelp API but it looks like it's 'read-only'. I think that's half the fun being able to tell people when your restaurant food arrived cold!
James.
Never found one unfortunately. Not sure about the capabilities of the iPhone app, but I'd be happy to get read-only access still!
Yeah me too. Thanks for letting me know. Fingers crossed the big organisations start writing their apps for at least WP7.
I'll email the author of the winmo Qype app (Magic Guidebook) and see if he's willing to add in Yelp.
Awesome, let me know how it goes.
PingChat 2 has been officially out for iPhone, Blackberry and Android for a while now. It's free and ad-supported I think (not sure).
Who have been using it? I'm currently on WhatsApp, but it's kind hard to convert friends to that as it's a paid app.
Here's a more official post:
PingChat! 2 now available for Android, Blackberry, iPhone, iPod and iPad

One of the big advantages of whatsapp is that people subscribe with their phonenumber, so you immediately see everbody who has whatsapp. This is really a problem with pingchat, yes it free, but why would people use this?
I have tried to pursuade some people but the most common thing you'll hear is this:
"But all my friends have whatsapp."
Personally I really like pingchat, very nice layout, easy to use and best of all, FREE. Although i'm using whatsapp beta for free now as well. I'm still trying to get people over to pingchat.

That seems the most problematic thing for me as well...
I won't use it until pingchat allows multi login.
I've been using it with friends. It's been great, but what would be awesome would be the ability to add a user to an already in progress group chat. I have a forum of people who all follow a sports team, and we've been using it to discuss team news and happenings. Every time someone new joins, i have to close the current chat and reinvite 20 people into a new chat.

Yeah Google Voice is free forever - but this isn't a Google Voice app. Google Voice (yet) doesn't do VOIP - you still have to use the voice call network not 3G/4G/Wifi.
This is another SIP-based VOIP app, which does offer some of the features of Google Voice like visual voicemail, but it's not a spammer post. It's a valid application which looks to combine voice features like Skype along with GV features.
Thanks Craigster for the app. Not interested in spending $10/mo, but I am sure some will find it useful - especially if you want a "business line".

Line2 is a PROFESSIONAL voice management system appropriate for small businesses and those of us who wish to appear to have offices and office #'s without the physical location.
It does not do video and probably never will. It attracts those users who require something more than a novelty or toy (skype and tango, etc are fine for what they do, but line2 is a cut above when it comes to the professional world imho.)
It is costly (15 per month) but for wht it provides, is well wirth the cost. Ane its coross-platform (android, bb, ios)
It appears to work best for ios phones though
