Yahoo Mail...Sync - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Themes and Apps

Hey,
Should we have pop mail settings enabled in yahoo inorder to sync HD2 with yahoo?
my ipod touch works fine with the same account, but in HD2 it keep asking me to enter the user name/password but never syncs.
I have another very old yahoo account which has pop mail settings enabled in yahoo and that works smoothly in HD2.

learn how to setup POP3 and IMAP
what you describe normally happenes when the wrong servers are in use or security is set incorrectly. i recommend you search the internet. just as FYI, I have a working Yahoo account on HD2 .
POP3 - pop.mail.yahoo.com
SMTP - smtp.mail.yahoo.com
IMAP --- imap.mail.yahoo.com
and make sure you set SSL correctly.

I was able to resolve this issue, This time i used Outlook to setup my yahoo account, but intially i was using the HTC wizard i suppose.

Yahoo Mail...Sync - Need Help Please
Hey guys, please bear with me. I am still new to this forum. I have had the very same problem with my phone. After I enter all the correct email account setting and it goes to check it, I get, "Check Username and Password and try again." and "Cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail." I have several more Yahoo accounts and all will work on the phone. Just not 1 of them.
It hasn't always been this way. The first 2 HD2s I had, the account worked perfect. I have had a few replacements since and all react to this particular account the very same way. I have talked to T-mo C.C. and HTC C.C. and no one seems to have a clue on how to resolve the problem. I am hoping you guy can.
My "incoming mail server" settings: imap.mail.yahoo.com
"Outgoing (SMTP) mail server" settings: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com.
The yahoo account is a free account, not a "Plus" account. Please keep in mind guys that I am a noob. Being too technical will go right over my head. Thanks..

Hosted Gmail account setup Help

I am trying to set up my college student email account, which is hosted by google Gmail, on my dash running WM6.
The email address is "myname"@students.kennesw.edu
I tried the same pop settings as my gmail account, incoming server pop.gmail.com : outgoing server smtp.gmail.com. I also tried the server settings as pop.students.kennesaw.edu and smtp.students.kennesaw.edu.
When i try to connect to the email account from the phone i get an error to check the account name and the password. They are both correct but it will not connect. It gives me an error that it can not connect.
Any help with how to set it up is appreciated. I have my personal Gmail set up on the same phone and it works fine and i have my school address forwarding to that email but i can not reply from that address.
Thanks
I'm not sure about this but it might be students.kennesaw.edu for both POP and SMTP
have u tried using ur email addy as username, and smtp should be that or your mobile carrier

Google's response
Hello,
Thank you for your report.
Configuring POP access for your Google Apps email account is very similar
to configuring it in Gmail. However, any time you're asked for your
username during the configuration process, you'll need to enter your full
email address, including your domain ([email protected]_domain.com). All other
settings are the same.
However, please note that we haven't been able to test POP access with
your mail client yet, but we're working to make our service compatible
with as many mail clients as possible. We look forward to announcing
additional compatibilities in the future.
Sincerely,
The Google Team
yup, me too
I'm having the same problem, also with students.kennesaw.edu. Love to see more info

Change email account name WM6

I know this sounds basic.....
I just setup an exchange mail server for an email account that I've had for a long time.
After running the exchange server config program on the device and everything is working, I'm left with an email account name of web host where I would rather it be my domain - which is how I had it setup pre-exchange.
I attempted to manually setup an account using the xchange settings, however it wouldn't work (read: not getting any email at all through exchange that way).
I went through the registry and can't find where the account names/associations are stored......
Any help? there's gotta be a name I can edit somewhere.
bump...same problem.

Thanks for being so clear.

[Q] mail client for hotmail - mark mail as read on server

so, i had a hotmail account set up on my htc mail app. mail came through with no problems, but any actions i took on the device didnt get reflected on the server. so if i read/deleted mail on the device, i had to do the same on the web inbox.
i switched to k-9 mail which now deletes mail on the server, but doesnt mark the mail as read once i've read it. something which i do quite often as i use my hotmail for online purchases, and i want to read an invoice but keep it for reference.
does anyone know an app that allows mail thats read on the device to be marked as read on the server?
muchos gracias!
anyone?

My wife has a blackberry and uses hotmail also. I believe the problem lies in the difference between POP3/IMAP. Hotmail connects via POP3 and from what I gather that protocol doesn't involve much more than basically forwarding the messages to your phone. While IMAP (which Gmail is capable of using) allows the syncing of deleted items\read items\etc.

I had a blackberry before my android and was able to read and delete mail, mark mail as unread etc and it would be reflected in my hotmail inbox. its really frustrating as having the blackberry allowed me to manage my inbox completely without having to log into my hotmail and now i feel like im going backwards

Try this:
Setup a new account.
In the first screen, where you write your name and password, hit manual setup. In the next screen, select the last option (Exchange ActiveSync).
In the details put:
Server: m.hotmail.com
Username: your email eg. [email protected]
Domain: leave this blank
SSL: Enable this/use always
Certificate: SSL
It has some additional settings (sync contacts, calendars, etc.), select as needed.
Began testing last weekend after seeing this post. http://androidcommunity.com/forums/349480-post18.html
E-Mail is working good so far, have not used contacts and calendar sync. It pushes messages and syncs them both ways when necessary.

so so close!
firstly, thanks for the tip. it seems to be working, but the only issue is that it has constant sync failures. i've only had it up for half an hour or so and have been testing it out, and when it works - it works well. but the syncing issue could be a deal breaker if its not an time-isolated issue. so far i've had to manually instigate the sync when i know theres new mail, or i want to push changes back to the server.
will give it a few days and see. if its still buggy i dont see spending 12 quid on it as getting value for money.
Weird... It's been working perfect so far, maybe it has to do with the OS version you have on your device, I have Cyanogen's 6.1 RC1, Android 2.2.1. Anyway I was looking for a product called Exchange for Android 2.x, but it's $20 and this is not an urgent need for me.
BTW, why you need to expend $12 on this, it's free as far as I can tell

setting up Hotmail account

So I finally got fed up with not being able to send emails through my hotmail account on my phone. I set it up as POP3. I also got fed up with my messages being deleted without me actually deleting them.
I did a quick search about trying to set up my hotmail account and didn't really find an answer. I don't want to root my phone just to get my e-mail to work. I don't want to go through a 3rd party (App via market) to get my e-mails. Is there really no way that I can get my hotmail to actually work on my phone??? I mean this is ridiculous. Something as simple as e-mail doesn't work properly.
I've had my hotmail account for over 10 years and it is my main e-mail.
I use MSN and have no issues. Only thing I had to change in the stock mail app was the Security type from SSL to TLS for the outgoing server.
thanks that actually worked.

Glad it worked out!
have you tried setting it up as an exchange account. works perfect on the mytouch4g. gives me push mail and leaves messages on the server.
Server/URL m.hotmail.com
Username Full e-mail address (such as: [email protected])
Domain Leave this blank
SSL Enable this
Certificate Accept the SSL certificate when prompted
wow thanks. this worked too. now i did use the search function before i posted this... lol. thanks guys you dont know how much of a headache you saved me.
no problem man push mail works better for me instant notification. i lurk here for a buddy that has an inspire.
ok so i accidently deleted the exchange account (trying to delete the POP3 account) and now it wont let me add it again =(. idk whats wrong.
went through now... strange

[Q] Getting school mail in the stock mail app

I've been doing some searching across the web and I've yet to find a definitive answer on this issue. I'm trying to get my school email account to link to my Sensation via IMAP. My school uses Gmail as its mail server, so you'd think it would've been easy to link it. But I have yet to make this work after I've enabled IMAP on my email account, and tried numerous configurations in the IMAP server settings of the Sense mail app. Could anyone offer some help with this issue?
My school email address configuration is: "[email protected]"
Did you try setting up gmail with your school's email address?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
Yeah, I've selected the Gmail option when creating a new mail account and entered all the information I had. If it helps any, my browser's url says "mail.google.com" when I'm logged into my school's email account. I've tried "imap.mail.google.com" and "mail.google.com" along with "pride.hofstra.edu" and "imap.pride.hofstra.edu" in the IMAP server settings, but still no luck.
Try forwarding your school email account to another email account. I had this same problem and I just forwarded to my gmail account and everything is good now.
incoming server is imap.gmail.com if you're using gmail app/servers, and port 993 with SSL
@op, just call ur skool's tech team or whatever n have them help u with that. I had to do the same since the incoming and outgoing servers r diff, and have diff port #s. All this I dint know n I was wondering y my setups never worked.

Dude... you guys are making this 100 times more complicated than it actually is.
Enter it as a gmail account WITH NO SPECIAL SETTINGS and just enter your school email address for the gmail id, then enter your password as usual.
I did this for my work email and it worked in two seconds.

I've tried entering my information without any settings and the same issue about being verify IMAP settings appears. I entered "imap.gmail.com" and, strangely, it says that my username/pass is invalid. I tried logging into my account via the regular gmail.com and it says it my name/pass is incorrect (weird?). I suppose I could just forward my school email to my regular Gmail as a second option.
I think this issue might be more complicated than it seems, since my school is somewhat known for its poor competency when integrating tech into its network. I suppose the incoming and outgoing servers are different or something. I'll ask around at tech support when I go back in a few weeks and see if I can get this cleared up. Btw, I'm actually a student staff member of my school's tech support team. Albeit, I was only recently hired. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
Just enter [email protected] as a Google account under menu, settings, accounts and sync.
To access it via web it should be https://my.hofstra.edu/cp/home/displaylogin?service=/mobile/index.jsp
Yes you should enable imap and pop settings. You can also configure your main Google account to send and receive for your edu account. I have like 5 emails routed through my main gmail.

Just tried that, and it says that the password is invalid. I only need to sign in once for my school account to access all my services. There's also no mobile version for login either. And my IMAP and POP settings are both enabled on the regular desktop version. I guess I'll just route my mail through Gmail. Sounds much easier to do!
I also just had my school's emails forwarded to my Gmail account. I haven't had any problems this way and it took two seconds.

Are you typing in the full email address or only the id? You need the full email. Password may also be case sensitive.
