I just noticed that I hadn't gotten any emails in a while on my N1. So I checked Gmail on my computer and it showed 5 new emails that I hadn't seen. Digging a little deeper, I found that the gmail app on my phone hasn't successfully synced in the last 24 hours and I also can't access any past emails other than those that are already shown in my inbox(it won't load any that aren't already on the phone, gives a "Network Issue" error). What's even more strange is everything else on the phone works perfectly and even the number of new emails is updated in the gmail app, it just won't download the emails themselves. Is anyone else having these problems?
I just checked mine and it is up to date. In fact, I am usually getting a notification of gmail on my N1 before it shows up on gmail web site or indicated by Gtalk.
Hopefully, your issue is temporary and the 'network issue' will go away.
....and fixed. I still have no idea what was going wrong but going into the manage applications settings menu and clearing the data on gmail and gmail storage fixed it. Hopefully this issue doesn't get too widespread, cause no non-tech savvy person would ever be able to figure that out.
Alright, it turns out this is a really big freaking deal(as far as I can test it anyway). Any time I try to attach pictures to an email and send it, it causes this. And there's no way to undo it that I can find other than manually clearing the data in Gmail Storage.
...And from looking at the logcat, It gets a file not found exception when trying to load the attachment. I'm using a fresh picture taken from the camera to test it so this looks like a pretty big bug. I'll poke around a bit more though.
After a bit more testing, this only happens pictures taken from the camera for some reason. Can anyone else confirm that this happens for them too?
Alright, I think I got this(at least partway) figured out. It wasn't all pictures but just a couple specific ones. For some reason, there are some pictures that I took yesterday with my Nexus One that didn't actually get saved anywhere(I'm not sure how it even knows they exist, or where it's finding the image). The image I was trying was one of those, but trying another one that did get saved worked perfectly. So I guess this is less an issue with gmail and more an issue with the camera not always saving pictures correctly. Gmail just completely chokes when you attach a file that doesn't actually exist.
Hmmm...
My gmail hadnt synced for several hours today.
Rebooted..seems ok now.
I did actually send an attachement from a note pad application to myself last night.
No idea what the correlation is if any.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but if you are actively logged in to gmail (say, from a desktop) while accessing your gmail on your phone, the results are somewhat wonky and unpredictable.
I've seen this issue on my G1 and it continues on my N1.
I experinced this issue also. The issue seemed to exist across reboots. For some reason I was convinced that the issue had something to do with facebook syncing. I deleted that account and the problem went away. But know that I think about it, I did try emailing a picture that I had just taken right before I noticed the problem(emailed straight from the camera app), and I know that email did not go through. Hmm, definitely sounds like a bug somewhere.

Me too. I noticed same in G1 and now on Nexus while all time logged-in Gmail using Mozilla on desktop while at work. Totally unpredictable many time I see first on desktop and then later (some times way later) on G1 and Nexus.
Jp
I've been having sync issues too. I don't really do much with email, mostly receiving and I find myself having to refresh manually, all the time. It has been about 3-4 days or so. It worked perfectly at first...
Here was my problem: check settings and then the sync menu. It says something & sync. My auto sync was unchecked. Working great now!
Been having sync issues, posting in a thread about it over on the google support boards. Not major to me, just annoying and hope it gets resolved.
Thank you so much for the detailed responses about this Marcus. I thought I had messed up gmail with my theme, but then I read this thread and remembered that I had tried to send a picture through gmail immediantly after taking it, and after clearing data for gmail and gmail storage, it worked again.
So again, thank you, that is one less bug I have to deal with my theme causing.
I've had this issue when trying to email "large" (over 2MB'ish, as a rough guess) files.
Anyone else experiencing their text threads being out of order? For instance, i can send a text that shows that it was sent at the right time, however if someone texts me, the time is a couple of minutes off. Thus, throwing the chronological order off.
If im reading and thinking of ur problem rite it may be the same as mine was. When i first send text sometimes it would fail and wouldnt resend till i reopen text. So it would have wrong time at least i thought it did.

No, my texts don't fail. When I send them, they show the same time as my clock. However, if someone sends me a text, it shows they sent it about a minute or two ahead of my actual time.
I'll try to give an example: 6:45PM- actual times that these text are sent.
Me (6:45PM)- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Me (6:45PM)- ccccccccccccccccccc
Someone Else (6:46PM)- bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb
See, how it places the incoming texts at 6:46, even though it is really 6:45 still, throws the order off on my reply. It makes it seems like both of my texts were sent before I even received a response.
Very frustrating......
Are you having this problem in the stock messaging app? I noticed it every once in a while, but haven't had the problem yet with Handcent.
If you're using the stock app, try downloading Handcent or ChompSMS or something, and see if it goes away
i have this same issue, its made me switch to handcent because the problem hasnt occured using that. Plus it lets me have vibrate functionality ONLY in the vibrate setting and retain only audio notification in a sound profile

Yeah, I'm using the stock messaging app. I'll try Handcent, apparently a lot of people like it. I'll update ASAP
i'm still using my fuze and i have the same problem. i wonder if it has something to do with the time on att , the other persons phone and/or other carriers servers
Handcent all the way! It corrects the out-of-order issue and is way more customizable, including assigning ringtones for each contact. Just remember to turn off the notifications on the stock messaging app, otherwise you'll receive double notifications on each message received.
Im having the same problem on my Captivate...But my N1 gets it right. Im getting replys before I even send a text...according to the time stamps.
Sorry to report that, although ive only experienced it once, i have seen the same problem with Handcent SMS
All these little issues on this thing are starting to pile up :/

But this is true, at least for me, for every device.

No cuz my iPhone worked just fine...
This problem happens to me if I reply back really quickly... It'll put my text above the one I replied to.

Beauty is there's ways around it (other apps) and we don't have to rely on anyone to fix it.
My wife and I both have Captivates. Her phone has the text messages out of order, while mine does not. Something we noticed is that when we do an auto sync of the date/time, her phone is consistently 4 minutes behind mine. For example, my time will be 6:06, and her phone says 6:02. I believe this is what is causing the text app to "re-arrange" the messages. The text app just looks at the time stamp of the message, and not the actual order of the send/receive process.
I am not sure how to correct this other than manually setting her phone forward by 4 minutes.

This is exactly the problem.
If I get a text at 9:01... And I reply at 9:01... It puts mine as having been sent before the one I received.
just use handcent people.
Yeah, but like I said, Ive reproduced the problem once, even with Handcent. On a side note, does anyone know how or where to get more skins for Handcent?

That does not solve the root problem... Some phones are getting the wrong time from the network when set to auto-config.

tikicult, somone else reported that their phone was off by 4 minutes. Solved it by getting a new SIM Card.
Guess I'm a new user so I can't post a link to the forum thread, but here is the url:

I've been having this problem as well.
I went to the AT&T store today to try and get a new SIM, as per one of the suggestions in this thread. Problem still occurred. Tried it on a fresh straight out of the box Captivate. Problem still occurred. Sales guy threw his SIM from his iPhone in a demo Captivate. Problem still occurred on both Captivates.
Later I tried adjusting the time manually up by a minute or 2. Problem still occurred after a text with a response approx. 20-30 seconds later. Still showed the text coming in at 1:23, and my response which was 30 seconds later as being sent at 1:22.
Seems like a Samsung software issue.
In the Gmail app on Android, I noticed that there is a weird problem when viewing threaded conversations/emails.
The problem is that I see multiple "read messages." All of those messages are usually duplicates of my reply to the conversation. For example, within the read messages, I see multiple messages of my replies; some usually incomplete emails of the final resulting reply.
I was wondering if everyone else was having the same problem or whether this was normal.
Thanks.

im not. go to settings, and clear data and cache for gmail. if that doesnt work, try uninstalling it and reinstalling it
When I got the phone (before rooting, etc.), my sister tried to send me a picture and I never recieved it. I kind of shrugged it off as a network error.
I use Go SMS instead of the stock SMS app anyway. Every now and then, I'd get a message saying "Messaging has stopped." but it never bothered me.
Since then, I rooted and installed the CM10 preview on the phone (amazing piece of work, might I add :highfive
I had issues reciving (and sending) pictures then, but I recall specifically reading there was issues with that.
After restoring to stock, the Messenger app wouldn't even load, and force closed every single time. It forced me to use a third party texting, but since I regularly use Go SMS, not a biggie for me. But no matter what I do, I can't seem to get the messaging app to ... well work.
Also, as before, I still cannot recieve a picture. No clue why. Makes no sense for me. Sounds like a software issue, but after multiple restores / formats, I'm really not sure.
A friend of mine also had the same issue. I'm posting to see if anyone's come accross this before, AND possible solutions.
Thanks for your input guys! :good:

Just noticed someone posting something similar about this. No one has anything to report on this topic?
I have received a half dozen or so phone calls since I upgraded to Lollipop, and so far every call that I've had has a caller ID picture assigned in contacts, but none have shown up with a picture while the call is actually ringing my phone.
Has Google removed caller ID pictures on incoming calls, or is there something else going on here?
Have other people seen this happen?

Alright, at least I'm not alone.
Figures there would never be a problem with something so basic before, but Lolliflop can't seem to manage it.
HI, just noticed that too.
I played with stock Phone app settings and it seems to fix it for me.
Tell me if it helped.

Only 2 other people?
How are more people not complaining about this?
I have the same issue. Since the update on my nex 4, this issue has been there. When i call, the photo shows but incoming calls dont show the photo. Its annoying. I hope there is a fix soon.
Sorry to post on nexus 5 thread as i couldnt find it on nexus 4 forum
It seems to be only if your phone is locked (PIN, Pattern, etc), if your phone is on, and unlocked the picture shows.
Only using slide unlock.
Never an issue before.

Yes this??
Same thing here, i flashed xTraSmooth 2.3.3 .
Sometimes the image appears, but usually it does not.... Very annoying
Hmm tried every setting . Cleared contact storage and cache still same thing..
Same thing for me
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
256
Has anyone managed to find a solution?
Working fine for me, although I flashed the factory image and set my phone up from scratch
Even I flashed factory image and set up my device from scratch. But problem is there
Same thing for me. Did clean install and removed google account and back sign in again with no luck.
Have the same issue here.
Reimaging of the device didn't help.
This happening only on the locked device. While device is unlocked - picture appearing.
Using stock dialer and contacts applications.
Not yet. I've tried all kinds of things from disabling Google's Caller ID service, to setting new contact pictures for people, and I have so far been unable to make my caller ID pictures work reliably. I'll see it maybe one out of ten incoming calls. Extremely frustrating. My Moto Razr from 2004 could reliably display caller id pictures, but Lollipop seems unable to perform in the most basic of functions.
Same issue here. On factory image as well as a few different ROMs
