So, now that people have figured out how to enable Navigation (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582656), how about the Eclair CarDock?
bogdi1988 was able to install it by modifying the prop file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4921107&postcount=201), but it won't run yet. Has anyone else tried it?
Thanks
it installs with the prop, but it fails to start. it gives 'force close' and that's all.
as soon as i put original props, app deletes itself. i shell-ed in the phone and it was missing from /system/app folder and also from the Settings - Application page.
i guess we need an app that is de-odex-ed... or w/e it's called... (it's late here)
I also got it to install with the prop on my MT3G but when i revert back to original props the app is missing
I also installed under new prop files and then reverted back to old, car home still remains for me... of course, this is completely useless as the app force closes just like for everyone else.
you guys stil trying? =P
java.lang.RuntimeException: Binary XML file line #25: You must supply a layout_height attribute.
I'll look into this but probably incompatibility due to it being the 2.0 sdk
first thing no idea what im talking about but droid have magnetic dock/sensor so would u have to change dock code from mag to accelerometer
I checked, there are no android:layout_heights missing anywhere. 99% sure this can only be run on a phone with 2.0 frameworks then. Besides, all the packed graphics are for WVGA and would have to be scaled down.

not entirely sure if they could do that as it would launch everytime the phone was tilted but they should be able to remove that code alltogether. The software comes with a shortcut that can be placed on the desktop and launched just like an app.
Since the stood has a bigger screen then the dream and magic is possible that the only problem is resizing the resolution to be compatiable with the dream n magic

I know the G1 has a compass which is a magnetic sensor. Don't most Android phones have compasses?

Interesting idea. A quick check with a rare-earth magnet shows a clear order-of-magnitude difference on the magnetometer, as you'd expect. That seems like a more significant code change, though, since you're adding a conditional check on the magnitude of the mag field.
Already a metal detector app on market
seems way more feasible to work via shortcut.

Any progress for Dream?
I'm able to run the Car Home (CarDock.apk) on Cyanogen 4.2.8.1 (ADP1), although the 'navigate to' voice commands don't work (needs map update?).
Here's the apk I used: http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/apps/CarDock.apk
Does anyone know where the magnetometer is on the G1/ADP? I want to test the auto-switching without running a magnet all over and potentially damaging it.
The iPhone and Android phones have MANY camera apps that give cool effects, one being Lomo effects, so I am wondering if there are any for the HD2/WM?

I personally use Resco Photo Manager.
It's a little pricey but it's a great app to have. Especially with an HD2.

Gallery3D is by far the most over-engineered photo app on the planet.
I absolutely HATE it.
~ Why does it take so long to "index" all my photos?
~ Why do I not have an option to disable all the retarded tilt/sliding animations?
~ Why can I not use it without it prompting me a million times to access my Picasa Web Albums (which I do NOT want to see)?
~ Why does it not remember my place when I go back to my homescreen?
The frustration I'm facing is coming from trying to place shortcuts on my Launcher Pro homescreen using custom icons. Gallery3D is the only registered handler to pick photos, and Its driving me nuts. The folder structure seems to randomly change order, the thumbnail cache of all the folders seems to be continuously rebuilt, there's just SO many things I hate about it.
I found the wonderful app called "JustPictures" but LauncherPro doesn't recognize it as a handler for images when selecting icons
Is there an alternative app I can use that will work with LauncherPro's custom icon support? I really need folder support, as a minimum, and that's honestly all I care about.
quickpick, miui gallery, or gallery 2D
I agree with liquid. Im really sick of 3d gallery. Im going try one of those you posted kyle!!

THanks guys, QuickPic is excellent, everything I needed and nothing I didn't want. Updated OP so others can know about it as well.
Cool man, glad it worked out for you. I've switched over to it as well. Much faster than G3D.
By the way, I want to say thanks to you LS for your fantastic work on this phone. Your dev skills are epic in comparison to mine, so I thank you for your hard work to make our phone "Hero-scale"
Be advised: if you delete the 3d gallery you will lose picture frame widgets. I also lost the video player. So, until I find a lighter weight video player im stuck with it gumming up my phone with its crappy slowness.

First things first: Im not a code guru - I just have some expirience on other android devices and can't promise that my attempts will work succesfully.
So I'm trying to port the camera app from the Arc to our Play.
Looks like we will need to modify the libs, as the camera installs flawless but gives errors on start "No camera found".
Only tried the Arc app, as I didnt get my hands on the Neo dump yet.
Here the zip with (i hope) all libs and the apk itself.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/kti4anb9lx7qyv8/cam__anzu.zip
Attempt #1
Copy & Paste all camara related libs from the arc to the play
FAILED - if you overwrite the play-own cameralib.so the phone hungs up in a bootloop.
That sounds cool. I'll take that the arc camera interface is custom made and not as ours the native android?
Regards Dousan...
Thats the reason behind this whole story
Their custom app for the cam looks more cool and sofar i know has more options (or atleast they are better sorted)
Great Looking forward to your updates/progress
Regards Dousan...

If some of the real devs can make the libarys accept 720p recording, probably yes. as the camera seems to be capable to record in that high res. (eg. the htc desire has also a 5mp cam and record 720p flawlessly)
Can you make R the shutter button and maybe L just focussing?
ill help, ive coded a few apps for iphone 4 (cydia)
can you upload anything camera related from the arc, and include directories? thank you!
if anyone used the iFlat series themes, i was behind all the coding for the weather, time etc, im known as xX-SicKsKiLZz-Xx over at iFans
im also working on remapping the buttons, im seeing how the market camera apps remap buttons and working from there.
uploaded the apk and the libs, see 1st post
hold on, did you fix permissions after copying/pasting? thats the only reason i can see why you ended up in a boot loop.
i did. 10 signs.
just checking
ok, i spent all day on this, i managed to remap the camera button and its fully working in the native camera app, theres still a bug i need to figure out, the bug is that if you keep hold of the R button, it focuses but doesnt take a picture.
also, i managed to get the arc camera app working, you have to remove ALL old camera related stuff and replace it with the arcs stuff, then double check permissions.
theres still bugs, none of the features in the arcs camera app work, it FC's if you even try to take a picture.
im rewriting the all of the libs, ill post with updates & uploads tommorow

I second that ! great idea
I spent a few days on this when the arc and play were rooted.. think we will be able to get this working but need to wait until we can get some custom kernel action as there seems to be a link to the arc in the app... or possibly someone smarter then me can break the .apk apart (easy) and find the expression etc that limits its use to neo/arc (the hard part)
anyways thats my 0.02c
EDIT
just read

Hi
Seems like Google Photo's is hard coded to be the default picture viewer.
If you install something else you are not prompted to choose the new default as you would expect.
Disabling google photo's and trying to force new default doesn't work either.
Perhaps with future ROM?
Anything anyone achieved without root etc. till now? Thanks.
Reorienting back and recent keys seems like a no go either, what do people do to get round that?
Thanks for any tips already.

Tryna different camera. Counterintuitive? Maybe. Probably. Definitely. But you will get the option that you want.
But this has ALWAYS been the case with HTC. I have installed the HTC camera app on other phones, and it was imperative to have the HTC Gallery app to be able to review the photos after they are taken. I know that it's a different gallery app that we are taking about, but I think have the Camera App is the real issue here. The app defines the default photos app.
I may be wrong, but that's something that I discovered a while back.

You could use a custom rom like leedroid, there you can define your favorite app for pictures and it will launch from the camera.
And you can use custom roms without root.

install htc album from apk mirror, then disable the google photos app. It should default to htc album then.
It should but it doesn't, and I don't know why... When I disable google photos and install htc gallery nothing hapens when I try to open photos from camera.
Any fix for this yet?
Would love to see a fix too!
I got around all the little issues with Photos by disabling that app.
Then got "QuickPic" from Google Play and made it Gallery app in it's settings.

on our rom you can pick any gallery app as preview album in the camera app.
I've tried many apps as I've never really used Google photos before and had no luck with any. But I've started to like it now. Especially since they added opening straight to albums in the settings.
