ELF/ELFin UI Optimization
Our Elves aren't getting faster, and each day, system builds and apps are getting nicer, but bigger. This thread is to take some system image files, put them on a diet, reducing file sizes, and gaining a faster user interface. Using S.V.I's technique and some graphic design knowledge, I have been able to shrink most files considerably, decreasing load speeds and increasing responsiveness.

ELFin HD2 Theme
• Theme is lighter than stock M2D, even with the full screen weather effects. Running 2mb less in RAM.
• For best results, install over a clean Manila 2D (stock theme).
• I am runnning 250mhz and this theme, the ELFin is just what it should be.
• For complete look, try Livven black theme, and add from custom pack: Plain Taskbar and Softkeys.

Graphic Designer friend of mine who knows nothing about Phones told me as I was asking for imaging tips....."if the images are black, white or grayscale, don't save them as color (RGB or CMYK), it'll save you a heap of file size"
So I'm gonna put the Comm Manager on another diet after work
Uploaded the Op* Comm Manager, it's as light as it gets.
Since my Mac does'nt do .cabs....can someone make a .cab out of it.
Also, on that note, could somebody extract the HTC Ez Input 2.1 keyboard, I use it, and it's a resource hog, and at 8mb .cab, it is not a light keyboard either.

Not neccesarily, just copy all the files to the /Windows directory. Don't forget to disable TouchFlo from the Today settings.

But if I install your commManager over the one that's already cooked it will not make it smaller, since it cannot replace it ?

Yes it will, untick Touchflo, and copy it, i suggest using Total Commander. It will overwrite the larger files.

Thanks for the optimisation, anyway Paul, i also one of fans of Onyx, and i use the R7, it is been 3 days i use m2d on it. i feel after i install m2d on Onyx R7, the battery life of my BlackyTouchElfin quite decreased rather than while i am using Titanium only. Do you feel the same way on your elfin? is there anyway to save the battery life although m2d running inside the OnyxR7?

Tonight I will check the link, and will upload some goodies...been waiting for someone to sell me the Ez Input files, was able to save huge file sizing there. Also been working, albeit slowly, on a nice HD2 theme for those who have the WAlien optimized GFX Manila (like I do).

I was facing this problem because rapidshare servers were too busy for free users. I checked at another time and it worked.

The X-Button doesn't work. When I open a program or setting I cannot close it. It works fine with other ROMs. I really like this ROM. Hope I can find a fix.

Problems closing programs...other than that, VERY nice ROM, wizeman.
EDIT: It seems the closing program problem *may* have something to do with screen calibration (alignment)...because sometimes when I click "X" or "OK", the right softkey "button" is clicked. Not sure if this will help with a fix. I sure hope this can be resolved, as this ROM is the PERFECT fit for me.

It works on my locked G4. To get the nk.nbf file, you have to launch it so you get to the first screen, then use Windows to search for the file (make sure you search all folders + hidden files), it'll be the one in your TEMP folder (in a subfolder with RAR and some number). Then flash with ShellTools like normal.
And this is a GREAT rom. Very fast. I really like it.
edit: also, I couldn't find PIM Backup and had to download it....where did you put it?

It's in the Office Mobile folder.
i am having the same issue with my "x" button. Softkey is pressed sometimes instead of "X", like TomInMb described. I tried to run welcome.exe to align screen again, but same issue still.
Any fix for this yet?? Other than that, great rom, with lots of useful stuff, and not too much bloat-ware. Very speedy and responsive.

What is UI Tweaker and why is it included in the rom?
I have included UI Tweaker so you can further customize the user interface to match the CUSTEL theme for a greater experience. You can implement the CUSTEL Color Scheme by doing the following.
UITweaker ~> SysColorChanger ~> Tools ~> Import
Select the CUSTELColorScheme file located in the Color Schemes folder of my documents and reboot your device.

I have flashed this rom and it feels like flying running it - my TyTN II has never felt snappier and I have tried every rom released. But I don´t get the wifi fix to work, has installed it and did a reset and tried serveral times with no luck. Shall try to install a new comm manage as I don´t like this one - I like the ones with big buttons and more functions than six But this rom rocks as your Tytn roms did - thanks man!

Good to hear, thank you for your feedback on the bubble fix not working. I will look into a new fix, I apologize for the inconvenience.
One little bug - the sms and mms are splitted wich I love. But when in SMS and chossing NEW you still has to choose between new sms and new mms.
And when looking at the options for mms there are two versions of arcsoft depending in wich way you open the options for mms. In one place it is 4.2.8.1 and in the other 4.021.28
Duttu got the same bug in his earlier roms

I installed another Comm Manager but the bug is still ther so I use the old Wlan button fix with editing the register

custel you managed to make the ultimate fast rom
i replaced the com manager with the one with 10 buttons and the wifi bug it's now ok.
i've tryed a lot of settings and different customizations in tweaks but i have the same problem and i can't find where is coming from...
the screen freezes when the phone is in sleep mode...is working but the screen not responds...there is a black blank screen and only with soft reset is opening...
i tryed to find what is doing that but i couldn't....
just for you,to know,i use the same apps and excactly the same settings everywhere in any rom i test.and only in your rom this happeneds...
it's the best (and the more honest) way for me to test the roms between them..
your rom is realy fast and it's worth it (for me) to find the solution...

The reason I ask is because modifying system caches other than the glyphcache can cause stability issues. Which is why I only modify the glyphcache when cooking.

Storage and RAM figures are blanked out until I've finished cooking, as at the moment they are not true representations.
I am also working on getting HTC Album from WM2003SE to play nicely on WM6.1 so we aren't stuck with that Pictures and Videos rubbish.
I'll be updating this post with regard to the responses in this thread, so keep checking back!

What kind of improvement can be really expected from .NET 3.5....?? it takes a lot of space....may be you would like to use my COMM Mgr colors on your ROM, i'm using it on my WM6.1 version....!!

Indeed it does take up alot of space, but .NET 3.5 was already in ROM in WM6.1. I could try and remove it and replace it with 2.0 SP1 but I'm not sure how successful that would be. I'll look into it though

except GnatGoSplats rom, most of the tornado roms are filled by a lot of programs which i think many of them not used a lot

That's what I think too: make it as clean as possible with cabs for the addons (there are already cabs around for a lot of them, I think), so everybody can install what he really needs. Better than a ROM full of applications I never use with no space left for things I like to have.

I'll probably end up making a Vanilla edition before embedding the software. But the vanilla version will include:
Custom settings menu
Custom boot/startup/shutdown screens
Various registry tweaking for performance
Removed Customer Feedback application
Removed Error Reporting application
And maybe the HTC software, I'm undecided at the moment though...
I'll be updating the first post with regards to responses here so keep checking back

I very much agree with the 'voices' in this thread who prefer a clean and, may I add, a slim ROM. I seldom or never use some of those additional apps. So, shall I plead for a clean, slim ROM, please?
Anyway, I have modified the CHome cpr file that you may include (pics of home screen attached). I have moved a few things around, changed the clock's font, and bold a few displays. The panel is also slim down.
I also attached here bronzeres.dll which I found elsewhere in this forum. This file has an additional of more than 30 icons for the homescreen.
The pdf font file included here is for the CHome clock face. (Place it in \Windows\Fonts directory.
I dont know which Battery Bar app you will be using. I included here Saman's.

My thinking is, any third-party software that can be installed on SD Card, let's leave it in SD Card. Othwerwise this wont be "Vanilla" anymore.
Edit: SmarToolKit is still in alpha; very unstable.
For those of you still worried about space etc in the ROM, I'll be packing the executables with UPX, not only does it reduce the file size, but its 'in-place' decompression, so it won't hog your RAM either.
I'm free most of this weekend, so it'll be rolling my beta out to a couple of people for testing on Sunday most likely. Then if all is fine and dandy, I'll release it to everybody.

I've had this for a while now but have been super lackadaisical so i'm releasing it now.
Requirements: You should be familiar with cooking and should have read the wiki several times to get an idea how to do this. It's fairly straight-forward to cook, however modifying, adding, deleting, and creating stuff could be a challange. The steps are as follows:
-Launch pkgtoolsbuildos5.3
-Go to the buildos tab
-Choose load ROM on top left
-Tick the programs that you want (i have provided hundreds of OEMs and if you want more, just create them using the CAB2OEM program i have included).
-Once the ROM is done cooking, pagepool patcher will come up. Choos the pagepool you want and exit it.
-An error about moving kaisimg.nbh will come up, perfectly fine.
-Your ROM is all done and can be found under tools>kaisimg.ngh
-Enjoy!

Note: Most of the stuff are run and completed automatically, therefore it skips the chance to edit the dump, choose splash screens, spl, etc. To edit this, simply edit Create_ROM_For_Kaiser under tools with notepad to create a pause.

Welcome back Kareem! I, too have, been gone for a while but that's been work related. Since Dutty moved on to the Diamond forum and my first Tilt went to the grave, I've been trying different Roms. Most I've found don't have such good battery life for me. I'm gonna try your Manilla rom and see where it goes. Thanks for comming back and for your cooking.
Keyboard
Hardware keyboard don't work right, when I want to type symbols with Fn key. For example: when I type Fn + C it show "=" (without quotes) instead of ":" (without quotes).
Also, sliding keyboard out cause wake up device even, I disabled this function via Advanced Configuration.
Anyway, this is fastest ROM I have ever tried. Thank you.
BTW: I don't understand, why you removed task manager...

Downloaded your Rom this morning. Set up all applications. So far so good. I have tried all Roms in the forum. I think this one is probably the best in outlook. Will have to use it for a while to test out the battery life span. Thank you for ur hard work

My Windows7 Theme
with many new icons - also in the most sub menus. Only tested with manila 2012!!!
I changed more than 500 icons, all are coming with transparent background. Some golden icons are implemented. It was the work of two weeks and many hours in the evenings and nights.
Don´t worry...your language won´t change after installation of the theme.
Many of the files you will see first time after using it a while.

EDIT: One bug is in the theme-please copy the attached 695552fb_manila (compressed or uncompressed) AFTER installing the theme cab with Total Commander to windows of your HD2 and overwrite the existing file, because the integrated is not transparent. Then your 2nd slider looks golden like in the preview. Thanks to hatori for his information.
If you have the problem with 6.5.x, that the slider icons are a little bit to high, look at the posts 208 and 209, there´s a mod from Dioky (many thx to him) and all is presented well.

TCPMP/ Mort Player Portrait Skin
I made some skins for this version of
TCPMP for our HD2.
All tested. All only in portrait mode.
Elegance, Elegance Blue, Elegance Red, WP7 and Black, also some variations,
all in the attached package.
If you want to use them, copy the original files out of programs/TCPMP/:
fond.bmp, boutons.bmp und skin.xml in a folder on your storage card for backup.
Then copy the files in the zip folder (not the folder - only the files) into the program folder and overwrite the original files.
Start TCPMP and have fun.
A comment after testing would be good.
Black Skin (I was a little inspired of the "Devotion Taskbar" of Matt Jackson, which i use on my HD2)

Mort Player Skin
This is a variation of the rjblack WVGA Skin for the fantastic MortPlayer.
Bigger Cover, smaller buttons, more functional. Place the file rjblack_WVGA.mpz in the program folder of mort player. Then you can choose the skin from the program menu. The little grafic bug up in the left corner depends to the newer versions of the player. I placed the text a little more right, so this is not really a problem.
The player has alarm function, also EQ, many echoe-effects and much more settings. It has a better sound than the iPhone or the Nitrogen Player here on this board. Also it´s fingerfriendly (swipe up and down = next album/ previous album and swipe left or right previous or next track). It´s including many language versions.
Give it a chance.

Deactivate Sense and restart. Delete the 1cd2f8ef_manila with Total Commander out of windows. Restart again and activate Sense. Now it will take the slider out of the original Rom.
Tested the W7 Theme, just one word...waou....
Neo, i would suggest you start a new clean thread and post the cabs with sceenshots. If you need my help to cab some files let me know.

I'm not able to get the theme .zip working. Is it possible to make it a .cab file?
Look at post 8, unzip the 2nd download to your pc and use one oft the included cab-files.
For the slider the cab-file is also posted there.
I am surprised your Windows Theme is not getting more popular?
It is a great job, some QTC files need clean-ups as they are no more use but overall this is maybe one of the most complete Theme
The reason maybe the presentation...when you open then thread, you see at first the player - I think about editing the 1st post. Most users don´t scroll down, only return.
About QTC: I have no experience in editing these files. And at the moment not enough time, to work with new things. Maybe, i integrate something in the next theme and edit vista-theme later.
But it´s good to know, that I have a help in you, Steve.
