where is hkcu? - General Questions and Answers

hi, i recently bought a lg gm730.
there are a few areas that i want to modify in my phone.
but in the coding that i see, it normally starts with HKCU.
im wondering where is that located, so i can successfully modify my phone.
im sorry if my description isn't very good, but i'll appreciate any help
thank you.

HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER it's in the registry you can use a registry editor for the task.
Schap's Registry Editor
PHM Registry Editor
My personal favorite:
CeRegEditor as you can edit via compauter

ohh. thankyou, will go try it now ^^

That's cool
Just thought i'd point you to REG editing guide starts from bottom of that page.

How to edit the registry

I am trying to us the tweak that prevents the screen going to sleep during a call but as I am a newbie I do not know how to use Ceregeditor which I have installed on my pc.
I have connected my cruise via activesync and ran Ceregeditor. I can locate what value I am to change but I cannot change it. I get access denied error. I obviously am missing something which would allow me to change the value.
Can someone please let me know the correct steps to take?
Thank you
Why don't you try Resco Explorer with Resco registry. Very easy to use programme. So you can make your registry changes from the device itself.

I am only a newbie and have never used a registry editor before and so have only downloaded a free editor. I had not planned to edit regularly but if i can make this work i may become more confident and may make more use of a editor. I believe Resco is an excellent editor but as of yet i don't require it when basically i can get one free for the one or two edits i may try.
Thank you for your opinion.
Try Total Commander registry editor:

It's free and I have used it on the TC so I know it works.

Help With Reg Edit

Could somebody give me a hand with some regedit tips? I am trying to set my bookmarks in M2D and I read that I need to edit the HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\Customized
BannerURL : Webpage to open
BannerURLText : Text displayed in M2D
________________________________
This is the noob part that I can't get around. Where is the HKLM? I can find the HKEY with the PHM Regedit, but not HKLM.I'm sure this is very simple and noob, but I'm a noob and therefore stuck. Anybody have some useful tips on regedit in M2D for setting tabs and widgets and such?
HKLM is the shortened name for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
So the real key you are looking for is
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\Manila2D\InternetWidget\Customized

Good Freeware Registry Editor?

Can anyone recommend a good free registry editor to a noobie for the Leo please?
I want to get tinkering... finally ... and I'm broke.
Thanks for your help in advance
Total Commander ?
Few in one, including reg editor, and for free.

and languages - http://www.ghisler.com/celang.htm
Two option for me:
On device = FDC (dot freds) task manager because you can jump between hlkm and same key in HKCU easily (as well as use it as a full featured task man)
but I prefer to use Mdsoft.pl Ceregeditor from desktop Pc through activesync/WMDC it's so simple and effective that the others are pointless.

CeRegEditor via activesync. i guess it's the easier and the best of free ones.
Thanks all!!
PHM RegEdit it good too. Nice and simple.

Registry Editor

What registry editors can actually edit HKLM etc.
As I've installed a few including PHM registry editor and none seem to be able to edit the HKLM fields in particular.
Would prefer free software too
Look forward to replies !
I use PHM and it works fine for me.
What key in particular are you trying to change?

How to create a .reg file (what's the format)

Hello all,
I hope I used the search function correctly, I could not find an answer to this one. If You have a link to an answer, please be so kind to point me out in that direction.
Each time I do a flash of a new ROM I go through the process of installing the mayor things I need. Although I know that Shashimi (if I write it correctly) will solve this issue, I am trying to get to smoothing the job of some standard actions I do for each ROM.
I install my Resco Explorer 2008 and edit the registry.
I know all the specific entries I need, some are new, some are value changes.
There is a possibility in Resco to import .reg files. I tried to create my own by taking a .reg file I downloaded from here, but Resco complained it not being in the right format.
Can somebody inform how the file should look.
Is there a difference between value changes for an existing entry or new entries. Is there a certain Header which should be available.
I am sure these questions are answered somewhere, but the Wiki and Search did not let me find an answer.
And yes, I will go to Shashimi sometimes, but am not ready yet.
Thanks all in advance,
Ruud
I used TaskMgr to export some registry keys and it looks exactly like this:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\BTRouter]
"BTBaudrate"=dword:003d0900
"BTPortName"="COM7:"
Hope this helps
Hi ZaxXx,
exactly this format is what I see around here. But trying to import this through Resco Explorer 2008 does not work. Also simply clicking on the (text)-file with this format does not result in the registry being updated to the contents of the file.
How would You re-import these registry entries, other than by hand?
Edit :
OK, I just tried to import a file which was exported by TaskManager, this actually works.
But my files, which look the same to me are rejected. Time to start looking real careful, what the difference is.
Regards,
Ruud
OK solved it.
Or at least to some extend.
I can import the file through TaskManager and the file is accepted without mistakes. The entries do appear in the registry after that.
BUT, Resco Explorer 2008 still judges the file corrupt and does not want to import.
It will save a lot of time like this, so I am happy.
Thank You,
Ruud

I'm using PHM Registry Editor it allows me to do the following tasks:
Explore the registry to find the operating system and applications configuration,
modify system and applications tweeks not available from the standard options screens,
export all or parts of the registry to .reg files,
backup and restore the complete registry and
perform search on the registry data
Export a key, look into it with notepad (ASCII) editor, then you'll know its format
Some more recent findings you might want to take a look into you need them anyway when you're getting into UC;

This Rollup is an excellent overall HTC FAQ IMHO. It'll give you a very good overall impression of how to flash a ROM.
When you too are in cooking ROM's then this thread 'll interest you!
