bbc iplayer on opera mobile tweak - Touch Diamond2, Pure Themes and Apps

Just thought i would share this with you guys.
You can now watch bbc iplayer on your windows mobile device via the pre installed opera web browser. No need to install any extra apps It involves making a simple change in opera.
To see how just go to youtube and type 'How to use BBC iPlayer on your Windows Mobile phone' Its the first video on the results page.
Took me 30 seconds to do on my diamond2 and it works flawlessly.
enjoy!!

Seems a little cryptic, why not just share the process?

bbc iplayer howto--
sorry if my post was a bit vague... here is what you need to do.
1. power up opera
2. type in the address bar opera:config
3. scroll down to 'user prefs'
4. scroll down to the 'custom user agent field'
5. edit this field by adding sgh-i900 at the end of what is already in the field.
6. then scroll to the botom of the page and hit the save buton.
7. then press ok to the pop up box that appears.
8. Then go to the address bar and type bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/
Thats it !!
Basically what you are doing is fooling opera to think that you are using a samsung omnia i900.
tested it yesterday and it works excellently without any issues
enjoy!!!

I'm getting a message saying they don't currently support iplayer outside the uk even though i'm in the uk??
anyone else get this?

Strangely, the BBC tells me I can't stream their programmes over 3G unless I'm with 3 or Vodafone. Yet, myPlayer lets me stream over 3G with tmobile!
Still, it's nice to have the BBCs comprehensive listing and interface available over wifi.

Didn't work me
I used to play bbc iplayer on my Xperia x1 few months ago then I updated to W.M 6.5 + X2 Panels and now I have problems to connect. I tried with CorePlayer + myPlayer application, I have tried with a Opera modified with sgh-900 in opera:config....nothing...I'm not sure now if is the phone that now have some compatibility problems or seems that the BBC put some kind of block or wall to stop hacking iplayer. Does anybody have any solution?
Thanks.

Didn't work for me iPlayer website still thinks I'm outside the UK (which I'm not).

Official Youtube App

Have you guys seen the official youtube app? Here's a link http://symbiancorner.blogspot.com/2008/01/java-j2me-mobile-youtube-player-now.html. It looks pretty cool, unfortunately, it it doesn't work on my Touch Cruise (with esmertec JBed) and its JAVA based...but hey so is Opera Mini, and its far faster than any native browser both in rendering and in navigating menus, etc.
I don't know if it'd be a simple matter to get it working, but if someone does or has. Please post!

EDIT: In response to below
I'm not sure how to move a thread? Just repost my original message in the hacking and development?
Yes, this applet was created with certain phones in mind, but since its a JAVA applet, it should theoretically be able to run on any platform. As of right now (at least in this thread) some have had more success than others.
Here is the direct link to download:
http://www.google.com/m/download/youtube/download?sign=1&make=Nokia&model=N95&ver=v1.0.1
put this in hacking and development... and lets say if someone can fix it
Addition: It launches on my Wizard + Jbed. But just the streaming video wont work.
it's funny how it will allow you to download onto your Wizard but won't let me DL on my 8525...
can you upload the .cab for Sh*tz & Gigglez??
I did find an interesting article over at the ATT forums about this very subject.
"I was very pleased to find this... I had suspected that the 0.81 player was just a myth, but no! 0.81 seems to have a bit more overhead but plays more file types. It is quite extraordinary how many! WIth just one or to exceptions, I can use it to play most files. 0.72 is lightweight, but doesn't play back quite so many file types. Still does the full flash thing perfectly though!
Installing to main memory seems a good idea for performance, particularly if you try the 0.81 version. If you can't spare the memory, it is OK to install to your memory card, but might be best to stay with the 0.72 version. Your CPU speed may be a factor too.
Tip: In the prefs check auto exit after command line playback (or something). Means when it auto-plays flash videos it will also auto close, dropping you back to the site on Internet Explorer. There are a lot of settings to fiddle with, so if you do not get good playback at first it is likely just a matter of twiddling until you do! No special advice.. it will vary by device.
There is a file called ATIfix (or something) which may apply just to some HTC Hermes derived phones. It was needed on my Hermes.
This link is much better because it has pretty much everything (codecs, add-ons, etc) and the two latest TCPMP player versions you might want, it includes all the correct Open Source licences intact plus references to the original creators and sites. i.e. all done the correct legit way."
I have to confirm I have this working with youtube.

info
Hi all
is it possible to add more info on the first thread??
I looked to the official site and found that the supported phones mentioned are:
Some Nokia phones like the 6110n, 6120c, E65, N73, and N95
Some Sony Ericsson phones like the k800i and w880i
...so is it for WM6 device too??
and is it for the mobile youtube web or for the normal desktop one??
Thx
MMAPI is Required
This java midlet requires a java vm with jsr135 mobile media api with video stream support. It so happens non of the wm devices have a jvm with this configuration. Jbed wont stream from you tube but i think the jvm coming with the sonyericsson x1 might support this sonyericsson support most of the java api's even more api's than nokias.
did notice you could also download the apps directly on that page.....dis-regard my post
i finally found a zip file containing the .jar file for this app but after install wen i try to run the app i get an error "sorry youtube only works on phones with larger screens" im using the mogul i didnt think my screen was that small. so do u think there could be a workaround for this. if anyone else is having truble getting download pm me for the zip

How to make opera mobile default browser?

Ok...i've been having some problems with this for a long time now, and now im' finally started looking into how i can change it. but does anyone know how to make the opera mobile browsers the system wide default no matter what programs are used? it seems like some programs use opera, while others (palringo) default to PIE. the funny thing is, even palringo doesn't always default to PIE its just a hit or miss.
i searched and found this
1) suggests changing Default Browser key:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/: DEFBROWSER/1 to operal.exe from iexplore.exe (then soft reset)
doesn't work
2) opera:config --->install--->first time launch, save (exit then soft rest)
doesn't work
3) in the opera settings menu, there's an option to make it default browser (exit then soft rest)
doesn't work
does anyone know of a sure fire way to make it so that system wide whenever you open a url it always opens in opera? only other thing i found was xperia and a touch pro tweak cabs which obviously wont work on the kaiser.
Opera mobile official thread
Extracted from the official Opera mobile thread:
To set opera as default browser, Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\ EFBROWSER\1
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486502
You may try the cab in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418915
if you want PIE as default, install the FixIE.cab in this link http://www.windowsreference.com/win...xplorer-as-default-browser-in-windows-mobile/
thanx for all the tips guys, now that i've worked w/ my phone for a bit...it seems like opera is the default when using email, sms messages or anything else. the one thing that ALWAYS opens in IE is palringo. when clicking on a persons chat which contains a link you have two options, copy to clipboard and open in browser. it is possible that when palringo was developed, the default browser for winmo phones was defaulted as PIE...so even if you change the system default, it still doesn't effect palringo? this is the only thing i can think of that would make sense...

It's probably hard-coded into palringo if it isn't changed with the cab provided above.
resetting my device now, if it doesn't work...i'm gonna try n' find out from one of the mods on the palringo forum, usually answers tech questions pretty quik
Good luck then...
Well the easiest way to add opera mobile to your default web browser is by going to the settings and clicking on default option in it..

Thats for the heads up. Midomi are in the marketplace too. You have to pay upfront ($5 / £3.19) but song searches are free. However - It does not actually work on my HD2. Seems like its not recording properly or something. I have emailed their support and they said they would work on an update.
For now I think your Shazam find is our best option.
Should be free indeed.
But I don't understand. WHERE AND HOW TO BUY IT?
Once the application is installed there is a menu option to buy the application.
I'm trying to install it but I can't find it through markeplace application and I can't find it on the website.
Is there any special procedure ?

Thanks, because if we had to wait for the MarketPlace to propose it, we would have to wait for years
Thanks a lot for the info Xeon
midomi is better
What is the difference between that and the previous (free) MusidID we had ?
For a working Midomi on HD2, you have to use the Subzer0 version from this post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4353929
Actually I find much more things with Shazam. Although Midomi is good but trust me Shazam is load better.
Omg so 'ZIT' ("cuz we'll spot the record for you", "based on a complex listening system that also helps the government spy on you" - see gta iv) actually exists in real life? wow, just wow
edit: downloaded and installed, and yea, wow, it actually works, good too, tried some old hiphop songs and it knew all :O
I have a sneaky feeling Apple sponsored the iPhone version as you get the link to iTunes where you can buy the song. That's probably why this isn't free and that is.
Having used shazam and midomi on the iPhone, shazam works a lot better. Assuming of course that they work in the same way (which im 99% sure as they send the data to their server!)
I cannot get Shazam to work on my HD2 here in Denmark. It wants me to set it up but comes up with the error message "Sorry, we couldnt set up Sahazam at this time!".
Has it something to do with copyright issues and the phone companies in Denmark might have blocked this option?

Did you install the one in the first post? Weird that should work, actually if it is banned I believe you will not be able to send/receive through internet but as for the installation , that should work.
Denmark is know to be rather a very liberal country, so I guess Shazam is not banned there
I installed it from the Marketplace. The installation succeeds without problems but the program states "press setup to agree on terms and..." and then it fails when I press "setup".
I just tried to uninstall and use the .cab file on page 1. Same problem.
Tried both wifi connection and regular 3G.

[SOLVED] Mobile pages doesn't fit the screen in Opera (9.7/10b2)

Hi guys,
Got an annoying problem with my Opera. Everytime when I'm loading special mobile-webpages such as m.spiegel.de, wap.bild.de, or m.espn.go.com these do not fit my screen and it is not possible to zoom out to make it fit:

Ticking mobile-mode diesn't help me out (and I also don't want it because I'm briwsking non-mobile websites (like XDA) also and that looks quite crappy in mobile mode. I also changed my UA in the registry to the one of Touch HD.
The pictures and also the written parts are always too broad for the resolution.
Do you all have the same problem? I'm using German 1.48 stock ROM. If you don't have the problem, how can I solve it for me?
Big THX in advance!!
Did you try Internet Explorer?
I like Opera a lot, but on mobile web pages it sometimes looks weird. On touch.facebook.com it doesn't always shows the space between sentences. Same on my Nokia N86, i prefer using the native Symbian browser when visiting m.something.com pages, rather than using Opera
Hi. Yes, you're right. They fit the screen perfectly in IEmobile. Good to know. But I'm still asking myself, why can't Opera do that?
Doesn't anybody else have that problem as well? Does nobody browse mobile-pages with HD2? Pleease help!!
I honestly don't know.
I like to nag opera with such issues
Good news: I solved the problem by myself!
The reason for the crappy displaying of mobile websites in Opera are the default Opera-settings by HTC...
For anybody who's interested - here's a step by step guide to change these settings:
1. Open Opera Mobile
2. Type opera:config into the adress-bar
3. Click the point "Adaptive Zoom"
4. Change the values to the following:
I guess that the only point that's really important causing my problem is the "Default Zoom" - by HTC it was 175% I think - 100% fit waay better into the screen...
5. Click "Save" right below the "Adaptive Zoom"-settings.
6. Restart Opera.
7. Because of the big WVGA-resolution it may be useful to go now into regular settings on the bottom right and tick the option for biggest font-size as possible...
8. DONE. After this procedure the pages (same as I capped in the initial post) look as they're meant to be - like that:
Hope that I could myybe help someone with the same problem like I had - as XDA helped me approximately for 1000 times.
Cheers.
Hi, this is exactly what I am fightning with....
In Opera, when I look at the adaptive zoom, set it to 100 (like you) it WILL not resize the browser window??
I cannot make it zoom so it will fit full screen widht?
I put in the same numbers like you - it still too wide. After changing the numbers, the screen where you type in font sizes gets VERY small?
Am I doing something wrong?
Helle
Don't know what causes your problem. With my configuration e.g. the normal settings-section in Opera gets quite small as well, but I guess that's because of the browser is not written for such a big resolution. What you can do is changing the font size. First in normal settings under "display" (don't know the exact name because I'm using a German device - take it analogously) - choose the biggest option for the font size; second you can edit the font sizes also in the aboutpera-area. I suggest just some experimenting (I realized, that when I tick lots of settings to default (not HTC's default) - it gets looking better and better - HTC just messed up the settings obviously...). You can after these experiments easily undo them, so feel free to test.
hmm strange, I cleared out the cashe, but that did not help either. Tried to set the default zoom to 90% - nada, does not respond ?
It is amazing that the phone company does not make default issues MUCH easier to config....
Can't figure it out ... evv

Is anyone more informed of why? I know flash != shockwave, not sure if that is the issue. Or is the browser telling Hulu what kind of browser it is. I know that is spoofable. The last thing I can think of some sort of cache issue with the browser? In the settings the max I can set it is 6mb so maybe Hulu won't stream it. If we can get Hulu working on our N1's it would be a huge win. =)
everyone thinks that if they could just get flash on a mobile device (whether it be the nexus one or the ipad) they can watch hulu. i always figured hulu would just block certain user agent strings. this is how they block/blocked the ps3 and boxee from streaming.
Those can be spoofed to look like IE/FireFox/Chrome/Safari though can't they?
weird i played a hulu video.
Also my internet is booming under this build. One thing i miss though is the gallery app.

yeah i saw the video with that guy from adobe using it on the nexus but i hadn't known a rom was available. i don't want to root my nexus because of voiding the warranty and there is no way to re root. I can't wait till adobe releases it. I don't want to run the desire rom because the ui is different. The nexus has its own special ui that is far superior to the rest of the droids.
Has anyone else tried Hulu?
yeah its flash lite 4 i believe and not flash 10.1. there were limitations when I was using it on my phone such as hulu.
