I've seen one or two screen protectors that are pictured to fit the N1, but before I go order one, I want to make sure I can't smudge and scratch it up.
I have for my MT3G the PowerSupportUSA.com screen protector for the G1, and it's served me well.
Is there anything similar or better planned soon for the Nexus?

+1. I hate to post just to say +1 but I too am in need of a screen protector. If anyone has any info on any good ones, please post. As soon as a few debut I will try different ones and hopefully remember to post results here. Also, you might want to keep an eye on http://www.seidioonline.com/ as they are getting ready to sell some N1 products. They are usually overpriced but they spawn ideas so people can cheaply copy them.
Does it not come with a protector in the box? Like the G1?
No. I was disappointed it did not come with a screen protector. I ordered a kit from amazon "Skinomi TechSkin - Invisible Cell Phone Protector Shield Full Body Skin for Nexus One - Plus LIFETIME REPLACEMENTS"
Wireless Phone Accessory;
$18.95
Free shipping.
Zagg is taking preorders for the InvisibleShield -- ships approx 1/08:

I've never had experience with the invisibleShield line. Does anyone have any comparisons to the non-smudge/non-glare ones from powersupportusa.com referenced in my op? In order of most to least necessary, I'd like to see these qualities
1. Smudge and fingerprint proof
2. Static cling rather than adhesive backed
3. Can take a bullet to protect the screen (at least be scratch resistant)
4. glare reduction
5. Looks good.
I've not yet been able to sell my MT3G, but when I do I'm very hopeful I can buy both the screen guards, case, and phone on the same day.
Does the phone at least have a protective film that you have to peal off before you make calls or something?

I've had both the Zagg (and InvisibleShield and ClearProtector and whatnot.. they're almost the same when used on the screen) and PowerSupport anti-glare ones. I'll rate it JUST FOR THE SCREEN:
1. Zagg is somewhat fingerprint proof on the screen (better than a bare screen), but too far off from the anti-glare protectors. No comparison here, anti-glare wins.
2. Zagg is adhesive based (you need to wet it with a solution to apply). Only regular screen protectors (including anti-glare ones) are static cling.
3. Ah ha, here is what the Zagg-type stuff wins. Just view the Zagg videos and you will see they are a lot stronger than a hard plastic film. Scratch-resistant-wise, I find they both do the job well enough.
4. Zagg is somewhat anti-glare, because the surface is not even. But the "bumps" are a lot bigger/coarser than anti-glare screen protectors (like PowerSupport). Zagg-type stuff is still shiny while anti-glare ones are matte. So the anti-glare property is a lot better on (gasp,) the anti-glare screen protectors.
5. Appearance wise, it depends on what you like. The anti-glare screen protectors dim/distort the screen a bit, while the Zagg-type stuff preserves the colors better. However, the Zagg stuff has an "orange-peel" look due to the bumps, while the anti-glare protectors look smooth.
Personally, I use Zagg-type skins for the body, and an anti-glare screen protector on the screen.
And I want to add that my Zagg-type skin is peeling off my Magic (since day 5 or so?!), while my anti-glare screen protector recently has a tiny dent. Both are not bullet-proof.

I found a 15% discount code that worked for my order: hfmembers
I ordered the clear silicone protector, a motorola rapid car charger, and the skinomi protector. I'll report back how everything goes.
I just pre-ordered the Zagg Screen protector only. I had one of the whole body clear skin things from Zagg for my G1... and I did not like how it made the phone look, and how it felt.
I do however, really like their screen protectors. You cannot mar them what-so-ever. The only thing I would stress is taking your time applying it to the screen. Make sure that sonovagun has a lot of the solution Zagg provides, and get all the air bubbles out.
I think a nice silicon case (hoping for a Blody Glove) for the Nexus will be a nice fit for this phone... the G1 as always cumbersome due to the sliding keyboard. Every case for it came in 3 parts.
I just got word from Martin Fields (overlayplus.com) that they have a Nexus One on order and expect to offer screen protectors in a week or so. They usually include a camera protector too.
How is the glass screen on a stock Nexus? Is it easily scratch-able? Is it even glass?
Wish it was Gorilla Glass, would solve a lot of problems

Yes, it is glass. Does it matter how easy it is to scratch? It's possible to scratch it. If you put a protector on it, it's just a few bucks to replace if it gets messed up and it's peace of mind...
I ordered a screen protector from clearfreakmobile on ebay. It's an invisibleshield type (have to use water), but it looks fine. I never liked the full body kind as the little pieces keep coming off in my pockets. Should hopefully get it late next week.
i'll prolly check out martin fields when they start shipping them.
I still swear by naked cases they are awesome. Patiently waiting for a nexus one!
Nothing beats powersupport anti-glare. I custom cut these for my car navigation, digital camera, and all my phones. but nexus got a big ass screen and custom cutting wont work
I'm digging the Clear Protector (which, again, is the same as Zagg and Ghost Armor). It actually gets completely smooth over time and the orange peel effect becomes less noticeable. It also starts off with a little more friction on swipes than I like, but that is fixed over time as well.
Recently purchased a full body protection, similar to that of invisibleshield etc. from the following site:
http://www.devdef.com/products/for-htc-desire-hd
Hoping that it has no orange peel effect, loss of sensitivity of the screen or yellow tinting after time. Will give a review (with pictures if possible) when I receive it and my Desire HD!

Yea thats fair doo's. My friend has the Samsung Galaxy S with a silicone case and whilst it looks good and gives it a firm feel to it, I definately myself prefer a clear full body protector. I had a bodyguardz protector for my HD2 and loved the feel and look of it. Nice to know that it was protected without covering up any of the beautiful design.
But yea its all down to the individual preference!
This body protector is a lot cheaper than Zagg which was quoting I think $20-$30 last time I looked. Does anyone know what the difference is?

Im not too sure on the difference, only the price difference at this stage. I have received the protector and so as soon as I receive the phone I'll apply it and provide my own review (with pictures) for other members to decide upon
Can you tell what the material is like?
Is it slightly stretchy and "soft" like Zagg's offerings (i.e. if you dig a fingernail into it, does it spring back?) or is it more rigid and unpliable like a brando protector?
I'm a big advocate of Zagg's products - but they dont seem too fussed in making anything for the DHD yet...
I am using CAPDA CASE to protect my Desire HD. The best protector case I used.

Used to have ZAGG full body protection. It was nice for a few months. But then it started peeling away along the edges, the dirt and lint started getting under the film... urghh, dusgusting. Got rid of that.
I've been looking all over the internet and I've been unable to find anything that looks like it would keep my greasy ass hands from messing up my touchpad screen. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I would like to know too. I hate having to use my shirt to scrub the screen clean. lol. But I'm sure ANY screen protector is better than having none.

I was about to suggest military shield, but I think I'm going to try skinomi because its half the price with decent reviews (via amazon). I have the military shield on my phone screen, and it is freaking awesome. Crystal clear, NEVER scratches so it seems, fairly resistant to fingerprints, and it has a nice, natural feel to it. Zagg on my cousins vibrant felt waaaaaay too sticky/tacky. Just not natural at all. Will let y'all know when I order/test the skinomi protector.

I find just getting any "Matte" screen protector works wonders. It scatters light, and doesn't seem to attract fingerprints the way those other shiny guards do. I got one on Ebay for $3. Just type in Matte screen protector touchpad for a cheap solution.

Well its pretty easy, you just need a sticky tape and a good eye.
You need to do it in a clean room, and obviously you need to clean the screen first.
If you failed at the first attempt, just peel off and try again, no harm on doing that.
The easiest way to align it is to aim for the camera hole and the home button, just make sure they are centered when u aim it.
If you have bubbles after application, this is most probably caused by dust (or just bad quality screen protector) if it is a dust, just use the sticky tape to remove the dust. The sticky tape will not leave any mark on your screen nor the screen protector.
Hope this tips will help
Putting it on in a steamy bathroom also helps keep the dust out of the air. On your first attempt, try to peel it off of the backing as you apply it, pushing trapped air out as you go. It gets a bit trickier when you have to handle the whole thing peeled off.
Okay, so after using the skinomi skin for about a week now, I have to say I like it. One of the reasons I got my stylus was because I hated fingerprint smudges on the screen, and with the skinomi, it is hard to see any smudges after multiple uses. May ditch my stylus now, who knows.
Anyways, a couple things to note:
1) as another user stated, put the skinomi on after a hot shower with the door closed. You want the mirrors good and steamed up
2) line up the home button first. My skinomi is a little off and so its closer to one edge of the screen than the other. No biggie, really, just full disclosure
3) don't worry about the camera hole so much. For one, camera doesn't work on cm9 anyways. For two, even if it seems like the skinomi is a little bit over the lens, I don't think its a big enough of a deal. You could line it up perfectly on the camera, but you run the risk of your home button being overlapped by some of the skin
4) while squeegeeing, use the included cloth to wipe up any solution that gets pushed to the edges. Maybe not necessary, but I did anyways
5) once you are done, IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE CRAPPIEST SKIN/SCREEN PROTECTOR EVER. Again, don't worry. After 2 or 3 days, it will should look great.
I would post pics, but what's the point? If anyone wants, I guess I could. anyways, for about 7 bucks, I would definitely recommend the skinomi protector. It does not feel all tacky like the zagg stuff, its actually pretty nice.
I'm wondering about the match of these two together... around the edges. Being an epileptic I really don't prefer the thinnest possible glass as it's not only dropping the phone I'm worried about. Epilepsy is kind of an "uncontrolled breakdance disease" so phone abuse might be more violent than just a regular drop in the pavement. But what glass thickness will an Otterbox Commuter allow around the edges... if it actually goes far enough over the phone's edges to reach the tempered glass. (I don't know that either, since I haven't bought the case yet.)
Are there any experiences out there? Thickness suggestions? Maybe suggestions of glass covers if it's a "some will and some won't" issue?
Berthaconners524 said:
I have the commuter, and a regular "non-glass" screen protector. I've been doing a lot of reading about the glass, and the general consensus is that it does break with wear, usually pretty easily. I have a friend at work whose daughter has epilepsy, and I understand your concern. Best of luck to you, dear.

Everything breaks with wear. That's one of the things we can't get around. But I do think that a tempered glass layer has more to offer than the thin plastic film when it comes to abuse that's worse than keys and coins... and even if the hit breaks the screen protector, chance is still good that the phone's display will be intact.
Not to forget the bonus that comes with a glass protector... a glass display feels much nicer.
Berthaconners524 said:
I understand that all things do break with wear, but I suppose I cannot comment on the aesthetic of the glass, as I've never tried it yet. But I guess I just like my piece of plastic. I have no complaints. But I might be an exception, and I'm fine with that.

I'm not the picky type myself. I have no problem enjoying my phone like it is today, with a (cheap) fingerprint attracting and bubbly plastic protector. The extra protection is all that I'm after... and if the glass protector comes with a nicer feeling, I just have to live with it. :silly:
I've seen somebody with this combo before. It actually fit nicely. He was using a bodyguards protector I think. Whatever one they sell at the AT&T store.
I just ordered my new Moto X 2014, I'm actually getting it for free to replace my old Moto X.
What are some good case and screen protector combinations? I know in the past I've had some trouble with a case AND a screen protector, it's sometimes one or the other. I'd prefer a clear case, but I'll probably end up getting more than 1 anyways.

Just got mine as well here is what I have found so far:
All tempered glass is a waste of money for this model none if it fits right at all due to the rounded edges
I would ASSUME the older plastic style ones MIGHT work better but read they also dont work that well
Most cases that say they are clear are actually frosted and that for me defeats the purpose of customizing the back
So I am going naked screen and hula case and will carry the phone in a belt pouch. Not the perfect solution but for me its acceptable. I would have preferred a strong clear tpu case (most turn yellow), I dont want a hard case, and would have love tempered glass on this but they simply dont adhere correctly.
There you have it the sad but true facts about cases and screen protectors from the research I have done. Hopefully some others in here can give you better news

I don't mind a hard case and not a fan of the glass screen protectors. I like the film ones. My last film protector made it a matte screen and took the glare away. It was fantastic! And it worked with the case. But it's the only smartphone that I've had where screen protector AND case can be used.

I love the look, not sure it would truly give a huge amount of protection but should protect the edges of the glass on the screen which i read is the most vulnerable part of the phone. It does have a little but of movement when you hold the phone (aka wiggles slightly) but it also adds more grip, i have a plastic backed phone.. Those damn beveled edges, nice concept, nightmare in reality. They are why no glass or other screen protector will truly fit right.

When holding or using the phone its fine. I am also extremely OCD and when it moves/wiggles is like when you just tap the side with your finger you can feel it move very slightly, very slight;y but for me noticeable, but not enough to get rid of the case just makes the phone look awesome.

I really like the way that looks. My phone is Royal Blue, White Front, and Red Trim. So it's between a white or red hula case, or the gelli case. I'm leaning towards the Hula for more everyday use I think, and buying another case from amazon for when i need more protection. Weird question, but do you think there's enough give with the Hula case where it would fit around the Moto X in a thin TPU case? I like the TPU cases but worry about the protection or lack thereof. Just wondering if it'd be possible to use them and occasional put the Hula Case around them for extra protection. Of course the buttons probably wouldn't work then...

You wont be able to use the two together, to much of a lip on the back with the hula case. Even if you did somehow fit it on the tpu would never touch the back of the phone just the lip around the edge. TPU will likely give more protection then hula but hula will likely give more grip then a tpu case.
New to the X, is it worth while getting a screen protector? Case is on its way, but with Gorilla Glass 3, is it truly worth the extra to cover the screen? Probably will end up with one but wanted some other opinions!

That is completely up to you but I can tell you this based on my research and personal experience:
There is not a tempered glass screen protector on the market for the 2014 that adheres properly. Not one of them works well and thus dont bother with those. The 2014 tapered edges on the glass are the issue. I have HEARD of similar issues with PET style screen protectors but never messed with those as they never felt right to me.
Lastly everything I have read says those tapered edges o the glas DO make it more prone to crack or brake on a drop so you need SOMETHING to protect the glass edges. Full case, hula bumper, something....

A lot of the cracking that people report is from dropping their phones, not taking the Hula on and off. The Hula is designed to absorb the shock of a drop and it breaks so that the phone does not. Better that your $20 bumper break than your $600 phone.
I take my Hula off and on all of the time and it has never cracked. I think people are dropping their phones and the Hula is doing exactly what it is supposed to do - absorbing the shock, which can result in it cracking instead of your phone.
