I need my data connection for sending/receiving MMS and GPS, but I dont have a data plan. I set up a connection and then delete it everytime for my messages, just so i wont get charged for the internet use (Rely on WiFi)
I was just wondering if there is a way to have an always on data connection that disables the internet connection but still allows me to access my MMS.

Is there any way to kill all data connections? I have no data plan, and this phone constantly just wants to connect to Edge and 3G for some reason. I am a student at a University where the entire campus is wireless, so I don't need a data plan. But still, it prefers to connect a lot and cost me money. Is there something I can disable to shut off these connections. I still want to be able to send and receive MMS texts though. AT&T said they could shut it off but I wouldnt be able to send or receive MMS. Any ideas?
Go to start>settings>connections>connections>manage existing connections, press and hold on MEdiaNet and select delete. Once this has been deleted it will no longer try to use this connection.
I believe that would also disable mms. the best bet is to use a third party app like gprs monitor from spb or modaco nodata.
Ive been stuck trying to figure out how i can send MMS messages without using a Data Plan. I want to be able to STOP all connections to the data plan, minus using it for MMS. Basically what im saying is that i just want to send and recieve MMS messages since i have an unlimited SMS/MMS plan.
Can somebody help me out, i'd really appreciate it.
cAll customer service tell them you want no data-
have them block it. Problem solved.
MMS does not require you to use a data connection. Freekquency is right if you want to doublecheck and protect yourself from extra charges....
What I did on a Samsung Epix for this to work is go to connections in settings and set the first one for internet to "My Work Network." Since the MMS program has a manual setting on which data connection to use, I left that on the internet connection. When I get an MMS it will work fine but when a program tries to access data it will fail. A little caution though is that if the phone is either sending or receiving an MMS the other programs can use the connection until the MMS is done.
Search the forums for Modaco no data and toggle off the data.
It seems like if i use NoData then it stops the usage of MMS. I dont want to STOP my data connection, i just want to use it for MMS only, not online.
I have blocked out my data connection at alltel because i dont have a data connection plan and dont want to go over my minutes and all that. So my question is, is there any way to get picture/video messages without the data connection (it dials #777 when trying to connect and fails)? I dont really want to pay for the data connection for picture messages but dont want to drive a Ferrari in first gear.
I'm not sure, but i think it's not possible. Sorry to be so little help.
You can easily stop your phone from connecting to cell data services, under connections tell it to connect to "my isp" or "my work network". You can unblock the data services and just use wifi, I don't think they'll charge you for the data mms uses. At least that's the wafy i do it on att, and i don't get charged for data usage.

You recieve MMS through wifi? i don't think thats possible, MMS has to go through the network.
Do u have a messaging plan? because with at&t pic and video messages are included in your messaging plan so you don't need to have a data plan and.
BUT it does state in the fine print that any pic/vid message over 300k will be billed per kb but i've sent and recieved MMS way over 300k and never incurred any additional charges on my bill (which may be due to the fact that i have an unlimitted data plan but not sure).
I have ROM listed in sig.
I do not have a data plan, and am currently on a prepaid plan with AT&T and trying to avoid extra costs. I am using DisableData to disable both "AT&T ISP GPRS" and "Media Net".
When I disable media net, I am unable to send or receive MMS messages. So usually I have been enabling media net if I get an MMS message and disabling it again when message is done.
If I forget to turn it off, then I catch my phone connecting to edge or 3g (depending on whats available) and charging me data.
Just is a major PITA. Is there anywhere I can get MMS to pass through but disable all other data connections?
Thanks,
Shaun
Is the MediaNet connection actually incurring a charge? The other appears to be for GPRS. Sorry I have no knowledge of AT&T. My T-Mobile MMS connection is seperate fron the GPRS connection so disabling data allows MMS to function fine. It's strange that both your connections are used for GPRS.
Hello,
Have you tried disabling all data connection except MMS in TouchPro Tweak? In your ROM that should be in Tools | Tweaks | TouchPro Tweak. Find entry "Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA).
Hope it works for you.
So I just got off the phone with AT&T and found out that you must have media net enabled to have MMS come through, and there is no way to block all data excpet MMS. So I guess I will just have to keep doing what I have been doing.
So, are there any sideloadable XAPs that can tweak Windows Phone so that it doesn't ever use the data connection for internet, but leaves the MMS connection open?
AT&T can't do this on their network, so you're currently pretty screwed if you have a Windows Phone but don't want a data plan and don't want to risk data charges, but still want to send pictures.
No data no MMS.
