Hi everyone,
Even unregistered I've been using this forum for some years. Now it's time to make my contribution.
I've seen some people requesting this app, and even I needed it, so I'm presenting it waiting for your feedback.
Some applications on market (like Notification Toggle, Elixir 2, etc) are doing more or less what I porpose, but on a different way. Also, as far as I know, no app does exactly the same.
So, here it is my proposal. StatusBarAddon is like an status bar mod, so you can "pull" power controls at any time, on any rom even without root.
This app is free and available on android market (search for):
StatusBarAddon
What it does:
"Pull" down power controls at any time (and on any app);
Costumizable controls;
Volume and brightness controls;
Compatible with all android 2.1-2.3 versions (sorry, no ICS support);
Compatible with the Android status bar;
Free.

(As you know, I'm not able to post links, so sorry but no market links or pics )
Here's the link: https://market.android.com/details?...=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5ybXNjLnN0YXR1c2JhciJd
Thank you for the URL!
Add landscape mode, please make + the ability to hide icon in the status bar. I would also like to when you click on the button does not switch to the settings window, and immediately disable or enable any mode (eg Data)
Thank you very much for your program!
can you get a direct link to your softwareb
Not working on my Atrix running ICS
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
Thank you for your suggestions, I'll try to implement that as soon as I can (I'll be busy for some time, for professional reasons).
The data toggle is a peculiar one, since Android does not provide a standard interface to enable/disable data, so I decided to not do hacks (like change the carrier apn). I'm not sure if I can make anything about data (and Sync).
Since I'm a new user, I'm not able to post links, sorry.
That's right, I completelly forget to test ICS, so no ICS support, sorry for any inconvenience.
You are wellcome
nice app, i like it, especially the brightness changer.
you said you need translations? i could translate to Estonian.
a bug is that the gps toogle wont work, it allways shows gps is on, pressing the button doesent change anything.
and please, make the icon invisible also
work pefectely on sgs2 i love it keep the good work
Unfortunately sys it's not compatible with my P999 running ICS.
Nice app
But you should add an option to make the background transparent with black or white icon and add a option to remove the icon in statut bar
I can maybe translate to french
҉ Envoyé depuis mon Samsung Galaxy 3 avec Kyorarom 5.2 ҉
The GPS switch uses the Android power control widget, so I'm sorry but I cannot provide any fix for that at the moment.
I've just released a new release wich makes it possible to hide the notification icon.
I'll now work (as soon as I can) on some costumization options.
Thank's for your feedback
Nice and usefull app. No problems so far om my HTC Wildfire.
Some suggestions:
add battery status
add volume levels for ringing tone, media, alarm.
tap on "sync" should do a "sync all" instead of going to the settings
make it possible to choose the order of the buttons (e.g. I don't use fllight mode that often and would like to enebale it, but somewhere near the end of the list).
Can do translation to Dutch/Nederlands.

That's your problem, get off stock already! Lol
The battery status is on my todo list, will probabilly be one of the next improvements. Also, I've already started to do something about the buttons order.
The different volume levels will certainly be considered.
For the sync toggle, it's the same situation as the data toggle, since I haven't already find a convenient to do it, but I'll keep searching for a solution.
Some users are having troubles with the bar (not working at all), but I can't reproduce this situation myself on my phone or in the emulator, so I can't provide any support at the time, sorry for that.
Thank you again for your feedback!
you should make it so that when you have only the bars (volume and brightness) activated then the box aboove, where the other options are, should dissapear.

Just implemented that, will be on the next release
For your information: for the synchronisation I currently use the HTC widget "sync all".

I have already done something about the sych toggle, will be on the next release. However, it's not fully functional, because (right now) I'm not able to read the sync status, I'm only able to start or stop the sync.

Debugging
If you experience issues, the best way to help is by reproducing them and then clicking "write to us" - be sure to include a description of your error or we may not read the logs.
Weve actually done a lot of testing on this device, but suggestions are very welcome and of course we havent tried it on all the roms
This maybe usefull for devices with a strange acting displays (ex. my Nexus some time) or devices with a small border.
BUT whats the benefit for my Transformer?
I mean i got a HUGE frame to hold it in tab only mode, and dock for watching movies and text stuff.

Anything to report?
I have some suggestions.
It would be nice if it could switch between landscape and portrait mode. Because my bars are too small in portrait mode.
I had some problems with cropping the size of the blocked area. You might want to improve the area where you have to touch or give an indicator what exactly the user has to do.
I like the idea. However it would be cooler if would be intelligent like the XOOM 2. Which can tell the difference between a finger and the palm. Especially because I have all my icons on the side of the screen.
I already have something like it on the to do list!
How is it coming along? I find cant live without this app now

It's great when you have a 10 month old baby watching Elmo's World in the car who likes to grab the screen every 3 seconds and keep backing out of DICE player!
Thanks, enjoy! And keep the suggestions coming.
A new release is imminent!
1.0.2.8
New configuration interface
Split shake and notification controls
Fixed many minor bugs from the logs
1.1.3.5
Improved shake sensitivity
Added toast toggles
Reworked UI to be quicker
The only thing that drives me crazy is the system tray when I'm using an app or playing a game. I keep hitting that and the menu overlaps any controls I'm using on screen.
I think the system tray menu should be a long press to open. I'm hardly wanting to open it up often anyway.

Avoid task killers
It is best to avoid task killers such as Advanced Task Killer. Android is designed to automatically pre-load certain applications, even if you don't load them yourself. If it starts to run low on memory, it will smartly unload the oldest running apps automatically.
Manually killing tasks will only mean they get loaded in memory again. Task killers can make the phone slow, laggy, or drain battery life more quickly.
Bookmark a contact on your homescreen
To bookmark a contact on your homescreen, long press on the home screen background and select Shortcuts. Then select Direct dial.
If you call someone regularly this can be useful as you will have a shortcut to them handily placed on your homescreen
Bookmark a web page on your homescreen
To bookmark a website on your homescreen, go into your browser and find the bookmark of the page you want to create a shortcut for.
Then long press on the bookmark and select Add Shortcut to Home.
If you regularly visit certain websites, this can be handy as you will have a shortcut to the site on your homescreen.
Create folders to tidy your Apps
If you find yourself with too many Apps on the homescreen, then you can create folders to organise them.
To start, simply press and hold on an App and drag it over the top of another App. The App should change colour/shape. Then release your finger and the two Apps will be combined into a folder.
You can then drag more Apps into this folder using the same process.
To give your folder a label, simply long press on the folder and you will be able to enter a name.
Double tap for a full stop (period)
While typing emails or notes, you can simply tap the space key twice and the phone will insert a full stop / period
Install new keyboard to improve accuracy
The standard Android keyboard is good, but not great. There are many third party keyboards available which will improve your typing speed and accuracy.
Go to the Android Market and search for 'Keyboard' to see some great alternatives, many of which are more accurate and make typing much easier.
A good one is GoKeyboard.
If you see a warning saying the keyboard will collect all information (including credit cards) just ignore this. This is just a security feature that Android shows for every third-party keyboard that you install.
Accents and special characters
If you want to type non-English letters (eg those with an accent), long-press on the relevant letter. A list of options will appear for you to select.
Access the scientific calculator
To access the scientific calculator, rotate the phone to landscape mode.
The calculator will change to a scientific one
Add email or phone number from text
To add an email or phone number to your contacts from a text message, you can long-press on the email / phone number. Then select Add to contacts
Add widget to the homescreen
To add a widget, go to the homescreen and press the Apps icon (the circle with 6 dots). Then you will see a list of your Apps with the word Apps and Widgets at the top. Press Widgets, then you will be presented with a list of available widgets.
To add a widget, press and hold on it and then position it where you want
Android Easter egg
There is an Easter egg hidden in the Android operating system. To see it, go to your Homescreen, then press Menu - Settings - About phone.
Then tap on the Android version option 5 times and you will get a surprise.
Sometimes it doesn't work, so try a couple of times. By the way don't expect to see an actual Easter Egg. That is just the name given to things hidden inside software or operating systems.
Auto focus the camera
When taking photos or videos, tap the screen where you want to focus on. The phone will automatically adjust the settings to improve the image or video
Bring up more predicted words
If you have word prediction enabled while you are typing, you can long press the middle word that is suggested. This will bring up a menu allowing you to select various other suggested words.
Browse websites in full-screen mode
If you want to browse in full screen mode, without the URL bar at the top of the browser, then you can enable this..
Open the standard browser and press Menu - Settings - Labs. Then put a check mark under Full Screen .
To get access to the browser options (that are now invisible), there is now a neat hidden menu. Slide your finger in from the left or right of the screen. A circular menu will appear with various options.
Capture a still shot while recording video
To capture a still shot while recording a video, simply tap the screen while you are recording.
This will save a still image.
Change keyboards
To change keyboards (if you have additional keyboards installed), you can switch between them by pressing the small keyboard symbol in the top left of your screen. You will need to be in keyboard input mode (i.e. typing something) for this to work.
Note: you need to have more than one keyboard installed for this to work
Change quick response texts
The phone has the ability to send quick response text messages if your phone is ringing but you can't answer it.
To change these, go to your Dialer App - Settings - Quick responses. You can only have 4 of them and you may need to edit existing ones.
Change the backlight screen timeout
To change the backlight screen timeout, go to Settings - Display - Screen. Then choose the screen time out duration.
You can also tell the phone screen to always stay lit when it is plugged in via USB. Go to Settings - Developer Options. Then check Stay Awake.
Change the screen brightness
To change the screen brightness, start from the Homescreen and press Menu - Settings - Display - Brightness.
Then choose the desired brightness setting. You can also select Automatic brightness to let the phone decide for you.
If you have auto-brightness enabled, you can also press, hold and slide the top notification bar left and right. The brightness will increase and decrease accordingly.
Check phone status and battery usage
To find out information about Signal Strength, Network Information, Remaining Battery Time and Battery Usage (by Application), go to your Homescreen - Menu - Settings - About Phone.
Check the firmware version
To check your firmware version, start from the Homescreen and press Menu - Settings - About Phone- software version
This should list your Android version, Build number and Model Number.
Copy files between your phone and PC using WiFi
To copy files between your phone and PC, go to the Android Play Market and download an app called AirDroid.
This is an extremely useful App that connects your phone to your PC wirelessly, allowing you to move files and many, many other things.
Copying iTunes songs to Android
If you have decided to ditch your iPhone in favour of Android, then there is a simple way to take your iTunes music, playlists and album art with you.
Simply go the Android Marketplace and download a Free App called Easy Phone Tunes. You will also need the computer version of the software, so go to http://easyphonetunes.com and download it from there.
Then, when that is done, turn your phone into a USB storage device (this will vary from device to device, but instructions are on the website).
Once your phone is connected to your computer, open the computer version of the software and select your device from the Easy Phone Tunes list. Then follow the instructions to Sync your media
Create folders in your Quick Launch bar
If you have used up all of your Quick Launch spaces, then there is a trick.
Once it is full, press and drag an App from the homescreen and move it over the top of an App in the Quick Launch area. Then release your finger. This will create a folder containing the original App plus the new one. This is a great way to have access to regularly used App
Create shortcut to websites on your home screen
To create a shortcut to a website on your homescreen, go to your browser bookmarks.
Then long press on a site and select Add shortcut to Home
Customise your favourites tray
At the bottom of each homescreen is your favourites tray, which consists of 5 icons. You can customise it by adding icons to the tray. If it's full however, you will first need to remove some.
To remove an icon, simply press and hold an icon. Then drag it to your desktop.
Then to add a new one, simply drag an icon from your homescreen to the favourites tray.
Enable / disable vibrate / haptic feedback when you type
To disable / enable vibrate (also called haptic feedback) when you type or press the screen, go to Settings - Language & input - Settings.
Then uncheck Vibrate on keypress.
Enable sideload of Apps
If you want to install Apps outside of the Android Market (called sideloading), then go to Settings - Security - Unknown sources.
Note: use at your own risk.
Help, I have forgotten my unlock pattern
If you have forgotten your custom unlock pattern, then don't panic.
After 5 unsuccessful tries a button should appear saying 'Forgot pattern'. Press this and you will be asked to enter your Gmail username/password.
The phone will then ask for a new unlock pattern. If you don't have a Gmail account, then you might have to either call your carrier or factory reset your phone.
Hide folders or files
If you want to hide folders or files from being index or displayed, simple put a . (full stop / period) before the file or folder name.
Make volume / music louder
WARNING: Making your volume or music louder can damage your hearing.
Most phones have their volumes limited by local laws to protect our hearing. There is a way to boost your volume however. Go to the Android Market and download an App called Volume+ (Sound Boost). There is also a free version called Volume+ Free.
You will need to root your phone for this App to work.
Make your phone run faster
Here are the top 5 tips to make your phone run faster:
1) Use only essential widgets on your homescreen - each widget consumes memory and processing power which can slow your down your phone.
2) Uninstall apps that you don't use - after awhile your phone can get cluttered as some Apps are designed to always run in the background. If you rarely use an App, then uninstall it to free up memory and CPU resource.
3) Install Apps to your phone memory - if you have an SDCard, always install Apps to the phone memory, which can be accessed faster. If you have Apps on the SDCard, then move them back to the phone memory with an App called Move2SD available from the Play Market.
4) Use Static rather than Live wallpapers - Live wallpapers consume processing power and memory. Unless you really must have them, uninstall them.
5) Kill tasks occasionally - Some Apps will run in the background indefinitely unless you kill them. Most of them won't cause a problem, but it pays to check your running tasks from time to time. Hold down your Home key and check the Task Manager.
One last thing: Don't use Task Killers. Android manages tasks very well and Task Killers just make your phone unstable and can slow it down further
note this guide is mainy to help the people who didnt recieved a manual instructions booklet along with their phone like my country(INDIA)

Wow thanks! Im gonna uninstall my task killer now.
Good job! Some of this are well known but many aren't so it should be sticky subject for all who are coming into Android from wherever hey are coming.
The taskkiller part should be put in red
Another one: manage your contacts in gmail. It is bscked up accesible from anywhere and so convenient. Much easier to edit from the computer after all.

AW: how to make android apps
Hi, i made an app using tasker that controls the hardware eq built into Samsung galaxy s and s3 soundchip, it works good so far from functionality, but i have some issues, as the app consists out of multiple scenes i wanted to overcome that the background disappears for a moment when scenes are switched, so i decided to hide the elements of the main scene that also contains the background and display the new scene without background atop of this. This works well as long as i leave the app using its close button, that destroys all scenes, when using the home button however the app gets displayed in the wrong order on next launch, meaning the main scene is shown atop of the other scene and i need to close it first so i can open it correctly. I tried a lot of things like having a profile that monitors the visability of the main scene and destroys it if it gets hidden and a lot of other fancy stuff, without success. Do u have any idea how the app main task could be called everytime the app is clicked, no matter if it is already open or not?

Check your pm...
Btw the problem only occures if it is exported as an app, if i put a simple task shortcut to the appstarter, it obviously works as intended
And don't get shocked, the project is quite massive...

U can also make swipe support to your apps
Like this friendcaster app
Create 5 to 6 scenes
And add the blue indicator below every scene name title
And add your action in stroke menu
Either swipe updown
Swipe left right or any
And in action choose show scene action
Example
In info screen there will be an image with the indicator under info text and in sroke action it will show wall scene
Where wall scene will have same image with blue indicator under wall text
Swiping from wall scene will show
Photos scene
Swipping from photos scene will show members scene
U will have to add 2 strokes in each scene one for left to right to show next scene
And one for right to left to show previous scene

I'm not a developer or programmer (although I could learn how to, but by the time I figured out how to create a program, the Note Edge 3 would be released), but being an end user of the phone and with first hand experience, I can always comes up with ideas that may improve the functionality and accessibility of the device. Below are some of the ideas on different panels/apps that I think can greatly improve the functionality of the Edge screen.
Music Control - This definitely needs to happen. It would be amazing to be able to control your music app (play, pause, stop, fast forward, rewind, etc.) while using your phone for other tasks without having to open up the music app.
Multi-Window Functions - Why can't we use the edge screen as the multi-windows toolbar? Instead of having to hold the back button for the toolbar to appear, we can just drag the apps from the Edge screen and start multi-windows.
Task List - Tasks on the Edge screen where we can tap it to mark it as complete and a new task will show up. This could also be a shopping list and will most definitely be useful for Black Friday.
Bubble Level - There's a ruler...why can't there be a bubble level too?
Battery Bar - I know there's a battery bar at the top of the screen, but it would be nice to have a larger battery bar that's actually color coded based on the percentage of life left. And it could also displays percentage of battery life as well as remaining usage time.
Fantasy Score Updates - I play Fantasy Football and Basketball and would love to see updates on my Fantasy scores without having to open up the Fantasy apps.
What do you think of some of the ideas? Do you have any ideas you would like to share? Hopefully a developer/programmer will read this thread and create some of the highly requested/useful panels/apps for the Edge screen.
There is a thread with a list going. My company will be building a suite of apps that accomplishes many of these items.

Do you have a link to the thread by any chance? And what's the name of your company so that I may follow the progress of the suite? Thank you in advance.
When I first saw the edge, the first thing I thought of was my fantasy team lol. Fantasy points would be amazing. Yahoo already has a sports ticker, I'm unsure if Yahoo has any api that will allow other apps to pull points, but that would be so amazing.
I like the idea of a bubble level too. Seems like a no-brainer now that you mentioned it.
I'd like to see web browsers take advantage of the edge and place navigation buttons there so you wont have to hit menu->forward or menu->reload or menu->load desktop site anymore.
I'm also interested in being linked to that other thread with edge app ideas as well, please
ok dudes, let me get some of this work off my plate tonight and tomorrow, I'll probably make an official post or something for this. I responded to a few people in different threads so I went quickly and copied them here to give you guys something to ponder on, and add suggestions. This is a aggregation of things requested.
Ultimately the goal is to make apps that make it productive for business, and then make a few extra general apps. I was thinking a suite of 4-6 depending on the complexity to build.... which given how I design, the apps are usually complex to build. But with the limited space and functions of what we are making, these may not be to bad on time.
Some of these apps may exist, but I won't have my phone til Monday to see what comes preloaded. If I feel there is a lack of functionality, like in the messaging widget I'll build a better mousetrap.
WIDGETS
1. A rss feed type panel where user could add their own feeds.
2. A To Do list (integrates with outlook... so it can pull my data from there)
3. Messaging alert and reader. -- (so you can switch between sms/email/etc and use your finger to swipe left/right like a ticker to read the messages.. and maybe swipe up and down to cycle messages... still in thought)
4. Level tool
5. Music controls while using the phone
6. Twitter timeline
7. A converter tool.
8. Ir favorite channel edge panel
9. swipe or knock to turn screen on
feel free to add on!
Thanks for the reply.
So the Edge has an IR Blaster? If that's the case, I'd go further than just a favorite channels bar and add Volume up/down/mute as well as power too.

Yes, both the Note 4 and Note Edge come with the IR Blaster. It has been confirmed by many Tech and phones sites.

You and me both! The first time I saw it presented at CES 2013, I said to myself that it would be neat to see Fantasy updates on that side of the screen while at the bar or pub. lol.
And yes, I would love to have all the browsers navigation bar on Edge, it would make web browsing so much better and more efficient.
@jribbe101
Thanks for listening to the community feedback on creating apps for the Edge, I greatly appreciate it and I'm sure I'm not the only one! I look forward to supporting your company in the near future and am excited to experience your apps firsthand.
no problemo. Speaking of a fantasy widget... I am currently working on something that would probably blow y'alls minds, lol. I'm designing the UI now, and will have a running beta for March Madness and TNT (cable channel). So maybe I will integrate it with the edge... A small easter egg for our "limited" community

Its great to see you're giving user suggestions serious consideration. Can't wait see some of these ideas come alive. These apps potentially makes the edge seriously useful.
Good luck!

I agree, all these reviews talking about it being a gimmick.. I can actually see some good use for that screen in my daily business scenarios that would make small things more efficient. So, maybe we can make them eat those words @[email protected]!
Which forum should I post my thread on? General or Q&A? I'm going to start the new thread with this username and want to make sure it's under the right area. It will be a starter thread to aggregate ideas to pick which apps should be made.
Yes it has an IR blaster and comes with Smart Remote app (the same thing that was on the note 3 just renamed and themed a bit)
I was the one asking for frav Ch. IR. I think it would be cool to just swap over and tap the top 5 ch you watch.
There could also be one for vol up and down or even channel.
For those that arent use to the power button on top. You can get a screen off/power off app from the market and short cut it to the edge.
So far there isnt much i can think of for apps for the edge. Most of the stuff i can think of would have to be updated via the main app.
i.e.
facebook status scrolling,
ebay ending soon count down
TV guide reminders
I would love to be able to put any app that I have in the drawer to the edge screen instead of just the basic ones. Then you can put any of your favorite apps or most used apps in edge screen for easy access, or more sports ticker options for sports scores, yahoos one basic doesnt have any NCCA college football options.
Probably not the right thread but it's Q&A so I thought I would give it a shot , problem is I can't get the side panel to turn on without turning on the whole screen , I've read and read , your supposed to just activate it by running your finger or thumb up and down the side panel , but no matter what I do I can't get it to work without turning on the whole screen , am I missing something , I couldn't even get the night clock to work as it is supposed to , now to be fair I haven't had the phone for even 24 hrs yet , but have set everything up and messed around with it for a few hrs ...? Stumped ....any help or suggestion's would be greatly appreciated , I'm beginning to think I got a lemon , Thank's in advance ....

I don't have a Note Edge yet for reference, but I recall reading somewhere that you can "wake" the Edge panel by swiping your finger right and then left on it. Then once you wake it, you can use your thumb to swipe up and down to look at the different panels.
I do not believe that the edge panel turns on with the main screen still off.

Yes, it does. With the screen off, swipe back and forth on the sharpest part of the curve. That's the most sensitive part of the edge display. That will turn on the clock/notifications/weather (wait a bit, and it'll start scrolling to show your notifications). To access your panels, slide left or right on the edge as you would when the screen is on. once again the sharpest part of the curve is most sensitive.

I can confirmed that this works. Just put your thumb on the edge screen with your thumb covering the whole side of the edge, and slide/drag it up and down.
