MOTOBLUR like widgets for Nexus One? - Android Apps and Games

Got my N1 today replacing my Cliq. I love 2.1 but kinda miss the Blur widgets. Specifically the "Happenings" widget. Anything close to that on the market, or any hope porting those specific .apks without the entire Blur framework?

No, but the news widget is better, and for twitter I like seesmic.
No, its not the same, but the overall experience is so much better.

Sad to say but I am also missing the Happenings Widget lol anybody have any suggestions on a comparable app that can do the same thing? Aggregate all you social networks in one place. Thanks

MOTO BLUR was crap and so fugly, I can't believe anyone would miss it.

"Pure messenger widget" is the closest thing I've found so far. It aggregates twitter, facebook, SMS, gmail, and pop email. Unfortunately it's not free and it's not as clean or nice as the happenings widget yet, but it is constantly being updated. Even though, most days I still use the Cliq over the N1... crazy I know, but I use the happenings widget much more on a daily basis than I use Navigation or speech to text for the dialog box.

I was hoping for the same thing, so if anyone wants to hack the happenings widget onto the nexus one I would appreciate it. I can't do anything like that, otherwise I would probably help.
I don't think Motoblur was junk, but on the very slow and glitchy Cliq it didn't work well at all.

Which Twitter app is the best?

Of the numerous Twitter apps available in the Android Market, free or paid, which one have you decided to you use after trying out the others?
I'm pretty sure most of you guys (like me) have tried multiple twitter clients for our Android phones.
I haven't tried out many, but for the longest time, twidroid pro has been the one I use.
I really like the look of twicca, but it doesn't like to refresh or takes forever to refresh, doesn't like to notify me when it is supposed to, and doesn't auto-cap the first word if you aren't mentioning someone as your first word.
I tried hootsuite (think that is the name, too lazy to care to check) for all of about ten minutes before I got tired of it.
I used tweetcaster for about 30 minutes but overall I didn't like the way it handled things when I used it (maybe those have changed now, don't know or really care)
When I did try out/use Sense ROMs a long time ago, I didn't like peep.
I haven't tried that many, but out of the ones I have tried, I have found that twidroid pro works best for what I need.
I voted for TweetCaster. I usually go back and forth between it and Twidroid, but most recently, TweetCaster has won out for its appearance. It's cleaner, a bit brighter, and does everything I need it to pretty efficiently.
I've tried Twicca, Touiteur Premium, TweestCaster Pro, Seesmic and Twidroid Pro.
Hands down Twidroid Pro is the most feature rich among all the other apps. It supports video uploading too vs the others. Plus, it supports almost all the popular Image upload services for Twitter. My problem with Twidroid Pro is most of the time, image uploading fails, regardless of which image upload service.
I like TweetCaster Pro. One problem I have with it is the ugly splash screen and there is no option for auto jump on top when it refreshes.
Twicca has the sleekest UI and I like how dialog boxes pops out. I hate how it requires plugins for twitpic.
Touiteur Premium is okay. Didn't like it that much. Best widget among the bunch though.
Twicca. Streamlined, huge feature set, easy on the eyes, free.
Touiteur, hands down.
i prefer twicca for my need..i only use twitter to read latest twit from news agency and some famous people that i like..

+1 this. I was a huge Twidroid Pro user, but once I tried Touiteur I didnt look back. I just like the way it works. Its easy, its functional and its fast.

I agree with that one.
touiteur...best UI, hands down...
Touiteur then Seesmic!
I used Twidroid Pro (Android tenor/granpa tweeter client), then Seesmic (robust, clean), quickly tried Peep (good integration with HTC Sense, part of the whole Sense experience) and Touiteur Premium (Promising, good ideas) but now I use Twicca.
- Color labels is a must have feature for me for mobile usage (I only read "important" tweets on the road). They are cleaner than Touiteur's (you can't choose your color, full line color looks awful).
- Layout of Twicca is the cleaner, it gives the best part to tweets. Toolbars are not intrusive (Seesmic tabs are too big)
- Picture/video/url shortener service integration : Seesmic is probably the best, Touiteur is poor and Twicca is nearly nowhere but it's the only one that's extensible with plugins. For URL shortening, I use URL Shortener app.
- Twicca is probably the more responsive on my Nexus one. Touiteur frequently lags on startup.
- Multi-account : Twicca is the only one that can't deal with multiple accounts
- Status update : I Frequently open the notification bar trying to open the status update bar of Touiteur. Other apps are fine.
- Notifications : great on every apps. Twicca does not tell you how many tweets, others do.
You can't make a mistake by choosing Twicca, Twidroid or Touiter. Android give us good choice
Touiteur
Looks good, works great! Nicest widget I have seen. I really like the interface!
Twicca. Color labeling allows me to group people easily. Red for family, Purple for my wife, Green Church, etc. It's amazing how much more proficient you can be, and how many of the pointless posts you can skip over. Only wish that the spell correction worked, and that you could view peoples profile pics.
I just discovered that you can put Twicca shortcuts on your homescreen.
Long press on homescreen>Shortcuts>Search/Update/User/View list
Comes in very handy when you dont need a widget taking up your homescreen space.
+1 for twicca!
Twitter Working on Official Android App
They just bought Tweetie... things that make you go Hrrrmmm.....
Mainstream users might use official Twitter app just like what happened with Facebook. But there still should be needs for advanced twitter apps. The Facebook app is a poor one. Let's see what's coming with Twitter for Android.
But will the official twitter app for Android support third party services like photo and video services uploading? I'm guessing not. Hmm..
Features I need in a Twitter app:
* multiple accounts
* ability to display the entire conversation when people are @replying to each other back and forth
* open links inside the app rather than switching to the browser
I re-downloaded Touiteur and Twicca to try them again, but they still don't meet those needs.
So far, Seesmic is the only one that does. Swift was nearly there, but then HootSuite bought it and jacked everything up.
TWICCA!! I've tried all the others, and they all suck compared to Twicca

What's a good news widget

Hey do anyone know of a good news widget to use other than the HTC news widget and the genie widget?
Sent from my Sprint Evo
Try BuzzBox
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Looking for the same..I tried Buzzbox and it sucked..Couldn't find the feeds I searched for and wouldn't show news items but from one feed.
I use gReader. It takes all the feeds you have set up through Google Newsreader and syncs it on your device. The adding a new subscription directly from the application is a bit weird, but it works.
Pretty fast too although I don't think it caches graphics until you open the item.
Greader includes a widget?

Well I can just use the HTC News app for that, it works great. I got used to the widget though using Sense the first week or two after I got the phone. So looking for an alternative widget.
I personally think the HTC News widget is too bloated. I prefer the Genie Widget -- not only does it give accurate weather notices, it's also got a great news aggravator.

Where do I find it, I know I found it somewhere before but didn't see it in the market.
I'm also trying to find Genie in the market, but can't seem to locate it...has it been removed?

any other scrollable news widgets? or any way to trick the sense news widget to work with launcher?
No scrollable news reader widgets I know of and I can assure you I have looked everywhere and likely tried out nearly everything out there. I would like nothing more than to dump Sense but personally, I think they really hit the mark on some of their widgets and their seems to be no equivalent in the market. The guy behind LauncherPro has been doing a great job rolling out similarly functional widgets but no ETA yet on the NewsReader.
Lot's of folks seem to really like the Genie widget which comes on the Nexus One but with no way to choose the specific feeds you want, it doesn't work for me.
Buzzbox has potential and is the only non-Sense news reader with a full screen widget. That said, it still leaves a lot to be desired and was deleted without prejudice. It's buggy, articles were OLD (16+ hours), and it was missing a lot of feeds. I sent an email to the developer and in his response implied that the servers at Buzzbox pre-scan the sources to only send you the "best stuff." WTF? Isn't that the job of the editors at the respective sources...?
gReader syncs feeds from your GoogleReader account and is definitely one you should try if pulling from Google Reader is what you are looking for. However, if you are looking for a bit more customization I would recommend trying out Feedr, NewsRoom, and Greed2. They all have "widgets" but that is using the term loosely in comparison to the Sense one. Personally, when I am running a non-Sense ROM I use NewsRoom. Again, it has widgets but they are really just shortcuts. However, in my opinion (and of course, this entire post has been all my opinion) I think you'll find it has the nicest layout of what is available now plus customizable feeds.

(Req/Bounty) Sense Message widget for non-sense launchers

I'm putting this out there, cuz I'm pretty sure everyone wants some sense widgets. I know JsChiSurf is like.... RIDICULOUSLY good at hacking things up and getting them working...so...if he, or anyone else wants to take a shot. I'd love to have the htc sense message widget (and even bookmarks widget) working on Non-Sense launchers. Is there anyway someone can
a) Create one from scratch that looks/acts just like the sense ones?
or
b) hack up the htc ones to work with launchers like...launcher pro, or helix, awd, etc.
I'd be willing to donate good money if someone could get this working....and I'm sure others would as well.
Post a reply if you'd be willing to donate...maybe then we'd generate more interest for devs to work on it.
The dev for launcher pro is working on recreating all of the sense widgets. I know its $2.99 for the plus version which allows you to get the extra widgets. Right now he has people widget, calander widget, and bookmark widget along with some new features.. Check it out here > http://www.launcherpro.com/?cat=3
+1 for LauncherPro Plus
In case you also want the number counts on the dailer/messages/gmail icons like Sense does, there is an app called SMS Unread Count.
http://android.kanokgems.com/sms-unread-count
Contrary to its name, you can make a widget for SMS, Gmail, and the Dialer. And bonus for you, for each widget you add you can choose the icon you want:
-"classic" aka 1.5 vanilla
-"eclair" aka 2.1 vanilla
-"hero" aka Sense
Thanks guys! That's great info. I'll download lunch plus pro right now...I was looking around his website a few days ago because I heard someone say he could get sense widgets working (on this forum), but when I went to his site's forum, I saw that his most recent post said "sorry guys....there is no way to get sense widgets working". Hopefully his will be just as good.
Thanks again for the info!

Hey Gomorrah! Long time no talk. I just downloaded it, and it's pretty slick! I still like the way the sense one looks a little better...but this will definitely do!
Our phones are getting slicker by the day! By the way...the "Post Your Screen Shot's" thread, should be called "Gomorrah's Phone Will Always Look 10 Times Cooler Than Yours" thread!
Good work man!
A scrollable rss news widget which aggregates all feeds into a single stream, like the one included with sense would be amazing. Thats the only thing I miss since leaving sense.

[Q] Couple of hopefully easy questions.

Bare with me, I am used to rooted devices running CM. G1, MTS3G, G2, and now the MTS4G. So maybe some of these things are just sense issues or just normal...I don't know, but I don't like them.
Why doesn't the desktop picture move when sliding screens? I loved that feature because I leave my "center" screen free of icons, and I always know when I am at center because the pic is centered. With this, the pic is always centered and I never know which way to slide. Minor, but still a PIA.
In Contacts the only thing I have checked is Google Contacts, yet when I start to type a name to send a text, each conta7ct shows up 4 times. Again, minor but I don't like it.
Actually that's it. I guess I have to deal with some issues until we get Soff root, I'm just spoiled with CM7.
Also not liking the new style text messages, looks too "Iphone" if you ask me. I like the old standard thread design.
Dear lord someone needs to come out with a way to get s-off so I can run CM.
There's an app for that!
LauncherPro is a great launcher/home screen replacement that you can use without rooting the phone. It will give you more customization options for a better home screen experience without needing to root.
Handcent SMS is an excellent replacement for SMS/MMS messaging. I like it a lot better than the Sense version!

Chameleon Launcher

Anyone using chameleon launcher on their infinity?
Looks like another great launcher for tablets...
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/18/chameleon-launcher-1.0-google-play/
whats so great about it?
Tried it.
Uninstalled it.
I prefer Apex launcher. Chameleon has some nice ideas but it's still buggy and not ready for release imo. It costs $10 too which is a mistake.
Basically, the main feature is that you can set it up so that your default "home" screen automatically changes depending on where you are, what time it is, etc... But really, other than that, I'm not so sure what people (including myself - I'm a "backer") were so excited about. Besides being able to set your default home screen depending on certain conditions, it really doesn't add much to the launcher experience...
I personally can't remember why it was supposed to be so great!
I un-installed it as well, mainly because you can only use widgets provided by the app - you lose access to all standard Android widgets, which makes it unusable in my opinion.
That being said, it would be nice if Nova, Apex, etc added the ability to automatically change your home screen depending on certain conditions - I think that is a cool feature...

I am a backer, too. I am disappointed, too.
Switching things like chameleon does is really nothing special. It is still just one screen. So, i can set my apex launcher screens to reflect what chameleon tries to do very easily. The only thing is that i have to swipe. To be honest, this is not exactly true either, cause almost everything can be done with Tasker.
So yeah. I still hope chameleon starts getting better, but it has to be real quick or all the interest is going to float away and another app will go down the drain like many others.
I backed it too... it costed 10$ . But after few days i uninstalled it. Lack of Widgets , very Slow , lack of user defined wallpapers etc .
They are still in Beta i guss and they are updating the app almost everyday . Hope they come up with more nich Widgets etc soon.
thanks all for the replies!!! was trying to see if it warranted the ten dollar price
like i use a different homescreen when im in my vehicle (media oriented),but right now i just swipe right to get to it
swipe left to go back to my regular homescreen
chameleon key feature is simply to "auto-swipe" ?
At first I was disappointed, 1.0 has changed my opinion its stable and looks amazing. I was the first to complain with the beta releases now with the widget api released things good get interesting. @Apex launcher pro on my tf700t.....too buggy

Kickstarter backer here and I'm a little disappointed now that they have issued Ver. 1.0. There's no calendar widget, you can only place so many apps in the dock, the dock is huge and not adjustable, no pre-built Android widgets so any thing you've already paid for is wasted, and it doesn't do news feed images very well.
But the biggest disapointment is the lack of a calendar widget! That should have been a fundamental basic widget from the start. It's not so it won't be my launcher of choice untill that get's fixed.

That's one key feature, but I would say the bigger draw is the aesthetic polish it brings. That's one of the reasons they won't let normal android widgets be used, as it clashes with the look of Chameleon. Give it time for more widgets to get made (especially with the API now available to developers) before deciding if it's a success or failure. IMO with 3 or 4 more of the widgets I need, I would easily use it as my day to day launcher.
whoah....cant use regular widgets? only widgets you can use are chameleon widgets?

Correct. If you care to learn html5 you can make your own Chameleon widgets, and in the future they will add the ability to use widgets other users create. Until then, you only have the official chameleon ones to choose from. No standard Android widgets are usable in Chameleon though.
I was super hyped about it so I backed it on KS. Then I tried it and uninstalled it... nuff said...

Chameleon will definitely get better with further releases and more widgets added.
Like someone before me said, for me too, the polished and beautiful design is an added value of this launcher, nothing else (at least currently).
Calendar, Google+ and Music widgets are coming in near future. Custom widgets from users are coming, too, eventually. (i am hoping for beter gmail, email widgets etc...which can easily be done by others, not necessarily by teknision).
But, as i said before, they will have to act quickly - hype is on, but as with anything else it can get cold very quickly, too.

Just found this I like the look of it but does it have bookmark and email widgets?
Another kickstarter backer here. I also uninstalled it. It supports my gmail and news. I don't use Twitter or Facebook so it's fairly useless to me. Maybe widgets that appeal more to me are yet to come but not using it now.
