Wifi Tether Force Close (edit: solved) - Hero CDMA Themes and Apps

I'm having trouble with WiFiTether. Every time I start it up, I get a force close. I've deleted and reinstalled the APK, I've deleted the dalvik-cache and boot-cache and reinstalled ROMs (Fresh 1.0, 1.1, and Modaco 1.3). I'm not sure what else to try. Any suggestions?
edit: solved by uninstalling then manually installing the following APK: http://code.google.com/p/android-wi..._1_61-pre1_htc.apk&can=2&q=label:Experimental

What Tether version are you using? I got that FC when I updated to a newer Tether version, so I uninstalled, re-installed version 1.61-pre1 and its working again.

Thanks for the tip, but doesn't seem to be working for me. How did you do it?
I removed android.tether.apk from /data/app and restarted, then used the package installer to install wireless_tehter_1_61_pre1_htc.apk and restarted again. Still force closes.

Oh, this time I uninstalled using the Apps menu, then reinstalled and it worked. Thanks!

Yes, I had done it using the Apps menu Glad to have helped

had to do the same thing to get it to work. uninstall then reinstall.

I could not get it to work...
so i found another tether application
aNetShare.....
and it works..
but still want to get the Wifi-tether app to work!!!

Just curious, if aNetShare works for you, why would you want Tether to work?

it is what comes with the MoDaCo Rom... so.. want it to work.. so I can feel more comfortable with the setup...
and it has more security setup.. I think...
last night.. I got the Wifi-Tether to work..
uninstall the software.. from the phone..
then reloaded 1.6version
NOW WORKS..
Both works..

i was on fresh 1.1 when this started happening so i flashed back to 1.0 threw my theme and Noj custom lockscreen back on, and its STILL happening. usb debugging is enabled, unknown sources are enabled.
any ideas?
You didn't mention it, so I have to ask:
Have you tried downloading and installing the latest version?

The same thing happened to me. I went to settings>applications>manage applications, and then uninstalled. Then go back to home>all programs and open it up again, it will still be there. It will reinstall and should work.

had the same problem.
ended up switching to a different ROM because of this.
I found that this problem was fixed by disabling Apps2SD.
Honestly, that program causes more bugs then it helps...

This is being caused by the absence of the "Binaries and Configs" that Wireless Tether first installs to the phone on its initial run. Like the Cetus said, uninstall and reinstall the 1.60 version, and you should be golden.
Mine was doing THE SAME EXACT THING, all you have to do is uninstall completely, then reinstall 1.60 and it will work perfectly. You can get the apk from the developers website here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I had to uninstall, then reinstall the latest version to fix mine.

[Q] Market Apps wont download

I am using Coredroid V7.
When I am trying to download apps from the official app market, it doesnt download.
it says downloading then just clears itself out. i try it again it doesnt download it.
i even did a full wipe(1.5 and coredroid wipe) then freshly flashed the rom again, then it doesnt download again.
because of that i even had to RE-root my phone..well that didnt fix it as well..
it worked completely fine in 6.7. can anyone help me whats wrong with it? i even resetted my phone..nothing worked...
im trying to download miren browser..
Wow hmm I had this before. Are you setting up any accounts after flashing? What I mean is once you flash and get to set up tutorial, when it asks about setting up accounts,so u log into Facebook or Google right then?

Well, after the extensive wiping/rerooting/reflashing/reseting you've done, to no avail, maybe it's just the market acting up.
I've run into similar download issues both stock/unrooted and custom/rooted, from time to time. It's usually that stuck progress bar that never seems to move and never finishes, almost always when trying download something that's set to update automatically.
I've also run into specific downloads not kicking in, as you're describing. It usually clears itself up if I just wait a little while and try again.
Not a very specific solution to your problem, but all I'm saying is that after all you've done to "reset," that should have taken care of the problem, if the problem was indeed on your end.
FWIW.

Do a Search for Full Wipe, there is something you can run that just cleans yer device completely. I would try that. Else; I am unsure.
Settings->Applications->Market-> Clear Data/Cache ???
Worked for me =(
It's just a sporadic issue with the Android Market. I have encountered this very same problem and thought it was the rom but never did any reflashing or wiping data/cache but then I would go try to download an app and it would successfully download and install. I think it's an issue with the android market.

Just fyi, I flashed v7 tonight, and installed several apps after the fact, so I can at least assure you that it's but the ROM.
Sent from the computer I carry in my pocket.
Solution kinda
I was having the same problem tried all sorts of wipes to no avail ended up just downloading and installing new cooler looking app market thinking it would solve my problem but it didn't just gave me an error message to go along with it.....so the solution u say......annoyingly simple really reboot into recovery after installing new market clear cache and dalvik cache too just to be sure.
confirmed working as of 5 minutes ago.
with new market
on virtuous unity rom (but I don't see a reason it shouldn't work on most roms with weird market bug)

Help! Lost Market App after Factory Reset

I did a factory reset on my phone and somehow I lost my market app. Can anyone provide any help as to how to get it back. Thanks!
Here you download to your sd and install

You can try to paste the market app you just downloaded to the system/app folder of your phone, and then I reboot. That method worked on my epic and charge.
Have you tried to do a reset again, and what rom are you using?
I rebooted a few times and it stopped Force Closing. Now I'm getting an Authentication Login Error, saying that I need to Log in to my google account.
I'm running rooted EE4 w/Voodoo Lagfix Enabled

The only thing that I can think of is to maybe disable the lagfix, wipe data, reflash the rom, then renable lagfix
But I would say the easiest way to fix this is find a rom to odin over it, maybe ep1f humble or gummy if you want GB, both are good

Finally got it working. Just waited on the screen where it asks me for authentication... then after a minute or two, it started working... weird. Thanks for the link to the new Market!

[Q] Why does it take life-long time to uninstall app?

Hi, Guys,
I'm using P5110, with CM 9.
Everything was fine at the beginning, but din't know since when, it takes forever to uninstall any app, taking more than 10 minutes in many cases.
Sometimes, rebooting the tab would help to get the app uninstalled, but it is ridiculous to do so every time before uninstalling apps.
Any idea how to solve this?
Thanks!

Hi, Jxt,
Thanks for your attention.
The rom I am on is: [4.0.4] CyanogenMod 9, downloaded from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722099
Yes, my tab is rooted.
Hope it won't require complete system re-flashing rom, 'cause when thinking of flashing rom and installing, setting all the apps, it drives me mad.

Hello, your welcome i was just wonder, did you restore apps with titanium backups?
Are you running out of space?
Try going into recovery and wiping cache? NOT Factory !!

I've just wiped cache, but sorry it doesn't work, problem remains.
Anything else to try?
P.S.
I've installed FREE MY APPS before, and therefore, have install/uninstall many apps on this tab, but months ago, I've stopping doing this and removed all the staff, including FREE MY APPS.
Maybe during that period, some mess was done to the system?

The only thing i would say to try now is flashing a different rom, i recommend Pacman roms.

I assume you are trying to uninstall from your Setting/Apps.
What happens if you log into the Playstore App and try to uninstall apps from there?

Problem finaly solved wihout having to reflash rom, or even switch rom!
All credit goes to a miracle app: SDmaid !
After trying wiping cache, and using several apps to clean the trash files (some tools did clean hundred MB of trash files) without any help, I tried SDmaid.
It further cleaned out tons of trash files, and right after that, it takes only few seconds to uninstall apps, work like charm!

Netflix problem?

When I bought the Phone the app worked perfect, but since .12 it doesn't work anymore. I reinstalled but nothing works. I can see the menu but When I try to watch something says loading forever. Is there a way to fix it? Thanks in advance

Did you try clearing data and cache of the app?
Sometimes some apps do not work after upgrading the firmware and you've to clear data and cache to make them work again!

Yes, I read other people has same problem after updating but none solution. Thanks anyway.
Still no solution to this problem? I've had this since I got the phone back in November. Updated straight to 4.2, never tried it on 4.1. I can't believe this hasn't been solved yet, with the recent releases and everything. Meanwhile I've just been using this app, it's a bit outdated but at least it does the job.

I just updated Netflix app, it works now
