Universal has no internal GPS
If you mean your GPS device then you should be more specific so members can help you, also if this is the case perhaps this is not the proper section for that question.

No it doesn't have i've used imate Jasjar for nearly 3 years, and it doesn't say in that website... It says GPRS not GPS... and google map can locate your location if you use wifi instead of data... although there is a gps slot in the uni but HTC never installed it...

doesn't make any sence as... they can write what ever they want... but in reality it doesn't have any GPS... i used it for 3 years and now mda-IV for almost a year so i know that very well than the guy who wrote that web page, i bet he doesn't own an UNI... and the website is not reliable like HTC's own site which shows it doesn't have a GPS....

Uni can not work from base station navigation as it lacks some radio function.... well the only way it shows the location is by wifi in google map... it does pin-point your location if you use google map over wifi connection...

I believe the HTC Touch pro (and probably the diamond and Touch HD) does have an internal GPS reciever if I'm not mistaken...
The Univesal doesn't have GPS. The only way to get a GPS signal is to use an external GPS-reciever, I use a bluetooth one. That is the ONLY way GPS is made possible on the Universal

when you sync it with the phone
it will work well with tomtom and other soft
I don,t know with tomtom but with Efficasoft GPS Utilities you must check in Menu->GPS Setup->AutoSearch Bluetooth GPS reciver, and see if there is your device, or choose manual your device.
After that don't forget to go to Menu->Start GPS

I think your GPS programs might have been "fighting" for the GPS data or that it had bad epheremis data. It is recommended that with WM 6.1 and above to have the GPS "managed" by the system.
You do this by going from the Start Menu to Settings to System and select External GPS. Then you want to select the Port your programs will use to obtain GPS data. Normally the four lower ones were commonly used by most computer systems which is why I recommend selecting COM9 as the port.
On the Hardware tab, you need to identify which Port your GPS is on. I used GPSToggle, which is a Today plug-in, to start and warm up my GPS. You can read about GPSToggle here: http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gps-toggle.html.
Download the CAB file which I recommend installing to your device internal memory. Then go to your Today screen and then to Settings menu followed by Today. On the Items check the box next to BAF GPS Toggle. Click okay and this will place GPSToggle on your Today screen.
Unfortunately most smartphones do not have dedicated GPS chips because they eat battery power. On a dedicated receiver like a Personal Navigation Assistant (handheld GPS aka PNA), the GPS is turned on automatically when the PNA is powered up. Depending upon when your GPS was last activated, a dedicated SIRF chip can go from cold-start to 3D fix in as little as 42 seconds and as long as three minutes if epheremis data is present and the GPS has not been moved more than 10 miles from its last power up.
For most smartphone users, the last time your GPS was fired up was when it was built in China or wherever. The GPS can retain that information as its old epheremis data which is used to communicate with satellites. If the data is bad and old, it can take much longer for your GPS to lock-on and get a 3D fix.
For this reason, it is recommended that on smartphones that a GPS utility like the ones mentioned above be used. In essence, the smartphone's GPS must be "warmed up" from a cold start state to warm state where it is communicating with satellites in resolving a 2D fix ultimately to hot state where 3D fixing is available.
GPSToggle on your Today screen will "warm up the GPS" for you when you turn it. You will then see bars indicating the number of satellites the GPS has found. Once it syncs with them, the bar will go solid. When four bars go solid, 3D fixing is available. At that point you could turn on your satnav program and should be good to go.
If you see the altitude and nothing else comes in then the BT connection is obviously ok, so pairing, establishing the connection via COM port and the program using the connection seems ok.
Your problem then is the GPS receiver not sending the data required.
Find a program that resets the GPS receiver, if you can remove the battery put it out for half a minute and reinsert it. Once the GPS has a satelite fix again it should deliver all data.
A good free powerful utility is SirfTech - obviously only useful if your BT Mouse has a SIRF chipset.

What do you mean? There is no GPS in Start -> Settings?

IF I load TomTom 6, it can not fin the internal GPS, I can connect to an external GPS via Bluetooth
Sounds to me like you've got the version of tomtom that doesn't have the option of choosing the internal GPS.
Download GPSTest to see whether the GPS is automatically detected.
can i suggest u try gps test n see what that does
also try it with google maps
i think this might be a handset fault tho cant see why it would be disabled as its a selling point
Im 99% sure that TT6 doesnt support internal GPS modules, had the same problem with my N95....or come to think of it was that TT5? Hmmmm im not so sure now lol...
TT6 worked fine on my MDAC3 with internal GPS.
Funnily enough, the Voda specs page makes no mention of GPS at all

have you tried Other NMEA GPS-reciever, baudrate 4800, COM4 already?
NO GPS
Your right vodafone does not show GPS
Have tried it with Google Maps and will try it with GPStest this evening.
Spoke to Vodafone are going to send another handset
have also tried Other NMEA GPS-reciever, baudrate 4800, COM4
I have a Vodafone handset and thought the same as you.
It does have a GPS and it does work with TOMTOM 6.
1. Go to programs and slect quickgps and download.
Then go into tomtom and under showgps satus select configure and choose other NMEA GPS, slect baud rate 57600 and then load a destination.
Make sure you are outside tho and it might take 25 mins to get your first ever fix.
Mine connects within seconds now.
Good luck and let me know if I can help you further.
Could someone post the link to the Tom Tom 6 or 7 cab file for the Touch Pro?
Thanks

Neil

The traffic subscription is registered to your account, therefore it will work on version 6 or version 7. However, your maps (6.75?) will not work with tomtom 7, but you can purchase new maps from tomtom home as the touch pro is now recognised by the tomtom home application (version 2.4 or above)

I'm also facing a similar problem. Google Maps is unable to detect the internal gps receiver.
When I run, GPS Test, it just shows the GPS starting up message (with 2 yellow bars, sometimes only one). I have run quick gps and downloaded the satellite data twice already.
Can somebody please help me?

[Q] TomTom wireless GPS mkII

has anybody succeeded in connecting and using the TomTom wireless GPS mkII to the Desire HD running Sense rom? it's an amazing antenna and it doesn't need internet to work which is a huge plus for me.

Should be easy.
Pair the bluetooth as you would pair any other bleutooth device.
Now there are several free GPS tools on the market which allow you to use the external GPS module.
Just search on 'bluetooth gps' on the market and you are set to go.
When you say it doesn't need internet to work, does it mean you can use google maps with it without internet connection?

It should work the same as the internal GPS receiver only that it is more sensitive probably.
The question of using data through a internet connection actually has nothing to do with the gps receiver but with the program itself.

when you use the regular GPS module of the phone itself, because it's rather weak, unless you have a correct setting for AGPS it will take it quite a while to get a lock.
if you use something like the TomTom wireless GPS, you don't use the weak receiver in your phone and have better satellite reception.
that doesn't NOT mean that you can use google maps without actually downloading them beforehand. ie, any program you would like to use must have the maps in it already.

[Q] Google Navigation jiggles

Hi!
I'm using my tf in my car as navigation system. I have the direct comparison to my Samsung Galaxy S (SGS) smart phone and I have to say that Google Navigation isn't running smooth for me. When driving through the streets, the displayed position jumps or jiggles from point to point in an interval with about 6 seconds. My SGS can handle this smooth, with the arrow moving in a constant speed over the maps.
First I expected that the TF has a worse GPS module but it seems that the GPS receiving is pretty good with other diagnostic apps. Could it be that Google Navigation runs better on a slower and older device?
How can I fix this problem? I have the newest OTA update from 25th Aug for DE.
thx
Could you try another navigation software? May be its some of the background app/temps.
How are you getting your Map update?
You will need a 3G data to push the maps (unless you have pre-downloaded them first of course).

I activate wlan tethering on my phone and connect the tablet over wlan. Works very good and the map updating is pretty fast. It also possible to listen to webstreams or watch youtube without any problem so I don't expect a problem on the internet connection.
thx for your answer anyway
Can somebody confirm, that it should be possible to have a smooth navigation in google maps navigation? Maybe it is a basically problem with the transformer?

Understood.....
Try this and see if there is any difference:-
Next time you have a WLAN connection on your TF load Google Maps and download a map you would use for a particular journey.
When you next go out try using just your TF (not tethered) and the downloaded map.
Basically at this stage all we are trying to ascertain if the issue is with tethering or map updates.

2 things:
first... I think the beta labs feature to download maps is just for google maps and not google maps navigation. anyway... I make an offline test.
second... Do you mean to make a test without wlan or bluetooth enabled? Right now there must be much wireless traffic in my car:
bluetooth: phone to parrot
bluetooth: tablet to parrot
wlan: phone to tablet
other wireless: parrot wireless steering wheel remote
Maybe something of these disturbs the GPS?
Your phone is cheating. It has an assisted GPS that uses both GPS and cell triangulation to speed up lock and help maintain location when GPS is weak, without cellular your tf has to rely only on a limited GPS chip.

I have to say that I develop GPS Receiver for space use and I know a little bit about GPS
Anyway AGPS or assisted GPS just speeds up the first fix (as you said) and can fix the position error a very little bit. On weak GPS signal it wont make any difference if you have AGPS or GPS. Both wont work and none would work better or worse. With no GPS signal the AGPS Receiver would only know where the satellites are but thats it and he can't navigate with this info only.
So I don't expect a problem due to the not available AGPS, just to stop the speculation .
Maybe it's a SW thing or the GPS chip is just bad.
Anyway I still don't know if google navigation is running smoth on your tablet?
The Problem is solved...
A Speedometer Widget seems to be the cause:
https://market.android.com/details?id=it.opbyte.odometerwidget&feature=search_result
I uninstalled the widget and Google Maps Navigation runs fluently.
thank you all for helping

[Q] USB/Bluetooth GPS

Hi there,
I'm loving my Surface so far (Had it for two weeks) and would like to know if anyone has managed to pair it with a USB or Bluetooth GPS unit?
If yes, does it work well with the included Bing maps? Or are there any other good apps for use with a GPS?
I potentially have two uses for the device with GPS enabled.
1) As a navigation device
2) As a GPS logger that can log my position and export the data to be used in Photoshop Lightroom to geotag my photos.
If anyone has done this can they please share with GPS device you have tried and how your experiences have been?
I was hoping that using my Android phone as a WiFi hotspot would allow Bing maps access to the GPS location of my phone...but I don't think it works.
I was able to pair it with my BT GPS but no luck actually getting any apps to work with it...

Do you guys have the Windows location platform enabled? I think it may be off by default, which prevents apps from getting your location even when the OS has it.
Open Start, type "location", and look under Settings.
