Can't associate .WMV with Media Player in PROven 2.4 - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hello,
I flashed my Touch Pro to the PROven 2.4 rom from the stock rom that came with my device. In the old ROM, if I opened a .WMV file in the file explorer it would open up Windows Media Player and play the video in a choppy fashion. Actually everything was slow in the stock and laggy with the stock rom.
After I flashed it to PROven 2.4 everything runs so much better and the device is very snappy and responsive. If I play a .WMV file in Windows Media Player it runs great and pretty smooth.
One problem, I can only play .WMV files in Media Player by opening up media player and then selecting the .WMV file from my storage card. If I use file explorer or CE commander it uses the HTC Photo Album to play my videos and not only does it run like crap but I have to turn my Touch Pro sideways to use the video controls but then the movie file is sideways on the screen and remains like that unless I pop out the keyboard. Besides the movie plays choppy anyways.
Now don't get me wrong, HTC Photo album is fine for movies I shoot with my phone and photos. But it sucks as a player for .WMV files.
So I decided to use CE Commander to change file associations for .WMV files. I set it to /Windows/Mplayer.exe and everything appears to work. That is until I try to click on a movie from my storage card using file explorer or CE commander. It successfully opens up Windows Media Player 10, but instead of playing the movie Media Player reports that the path specified can not be found or something of that nature. If required I can get the exact error message I get.
How do I fix this and have my .WMV files play correctly in Media Player when clicked on in file explorer/CE commander? I would greatly appreciate the help, thanks guys!

wma ringtones with PocketZenPhone no more

Hey everyone
I need some help with my XDA.
I can no longer play wma files as ringtones. I could a few days ago.
Im a registered user of PocketZenPhone and I used to have different wma ringtones on different profiles.
Now none can be played.
If I use Pocket Music I can play .wma files but if I go to "Settings --> Sounds & Notifications --> Notifications" and select any wma file, even the build in ones and press play I hear nothing. The strange thing is that I can't even leave the "Notifications" menu.
Each time I press Ok it returns me to "Incoming Ringtone" I have to force to go to Today screen to leave this menu. If I select wav file for ringtone its played OK.
I checked out the forums and the net and found some references to Windows Media Player file associations.
I removed all audio progs and even removed any registry key concerning wma files. I created new association with Media Player but still no ringtones.
If I tap a wma file from file manager the first time it starts WM Player and the file is being played OK but if I select a second or third etc the media Player does nothing or most of the times it gives me the following error:
X in red circle
"Windows Media Player cannot play this file
because the required codec is not installed.
Try using Media Player 9 series or later to
copy the file from your computer to your
device again"
What the hell is that? Media Player version is 9 built 14053.
All my ringtones were and are in the \Windows\Rings directory
Registry looks OK
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wma only has a (Default) String value of WMAFile
and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMAfile has association with mwplayer.
Any suggestions.
P.S. Sorry for the big post. just tryed to give as much info as possible.
Wma ??
Does anyone has or had similar problem that can help?
i got that problem..
i got that problem too.. mine i uninstalled pocket music.. then it went fine.. i guess all your wma files was running in pocket music.. that it won't play with windows media.. that i didn't get.. coz if a file is associated it still should and can play.. try it if it works...
You are right wma files were played by Pocket Music but not only did I remove the association and unistalled it but also restored association to Windows Media Player. Still no joy though.
Same problem here!
Well, sort of... The thing is that SOME .wma or midi files don't work as ringtones anymore but some others do.
I also use PocketZenPhone.
Weird...
Media Player error reproducing wma files.
Can anybody more experienced with XDAs help us here. The Media Player error when playing wma files from a file manager can be replicated by anyone here?
The firt one plays but the subsequent ones produce the foll. error:
X in red circle, and,
"Windows Media Player cannot play this file
because the required codec is not installed.
Try using Media Player 9 series or later to
copy the file from your computer to your
device again".
Is sometheing wrong with Media Player installation?
file association
The key is making sure that the .wma is associated with windows media player. you have to go into the application and un/select .wma to default to windows media player. you can also do this with a tweak program, but its best to do it within the actual applications. otherwise, you will hear either nothing or a warning beep in place of the selected file. This will also hold true for any ringtone program you may have.
I just got this problem too. Tried to open a file through explorer and nothing is set as the defult player for wma files. Any ideas how to set them back to windows media player? Is there a simple reg key that can be changed?
Edit: I installed pocket tweak, but when I go to choose a program it starts in my documents with no way to go back up a level to get to the windows folder (where mplaer.exe is).
Edit 2: I did a soft reset and ringtones worked again. How strange.
Media Player error message on wma lpayback
Well "davidleecpowell" if you read my firts post you will see that not only have I removed association from oher audio player but also completely removed the software except media player. Also re assigned association with Media Player but still no ringtones.

X in red circle
"Windows Media Player cannot play this file

Its very strange indeed and the last thing want to do is YET ANOTHER HARD RESET.
Suggestions anyone?

Problem with mp3 playback

After a hard reset on my Magician, i installed the last versions of tcmp player pocket music.
Then i changed back the associations to media player in order to have the ringtones working properly, and tried to listen some mp3's with pocket music. I browsed the folder with the mp3's, i was able to see the files but i couldn't open it.
Then, i tried with media player. When i tried to open a file with clicking it from File Explorer, i received the error "Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the player does not support the format you are trying to play." The weird thing is that when i try to open the file from inside of media player's library, i works ok.
I unistalled tcmp and pocket music, but it didn't help. To summarize, the problem is that i can't open an mp3 file directly from explorer for media player, and not at all with pocket music. Tcmp works fine, but i prefer pocket music for mp3 listening.
Any suggestions except hard reset?
(sorry for the complicated post and my bad english)

[Q] A question regarding media players for all you Android Gurus out there.

I have an HTC Evo, and installed the "arcmedia" media player because I needed something that would play .wmv video files. I installed dropbox as well, which is where the videos live. When I initially tried to play the video via dropbox, it said I didnt have a media player installed that could play the file. After I installed arcmedia, it will play, but only sound, via the default media player. If I download the video to the phone, and browse to the video with the arcsoft media player it will, in fact, play. So my question would be, how do I tell my phone that arcsoft is now the default media player? Anyone know? Should be possible, yes? Thanks!

Movie player

Hi guys,
just got a HP touchpad. now is there a video player on here? and if its there what format do they have to be in to view it. have tried a couple of different ones and cant get them up.
Is there a player app i can download onto it at all ?
thanks
there is a photos & videos app built in, but it's pretty poor for video.
you need to add your video files to the root of the built in storage (the tablet installs onto your computer as a removable drive).
i still haven't got my head around the video file support just yet, but it doesn't seem to handle .avi, divx, xvid etc.
mp4 seems to be the main format.
there are a couple of apps for streaming videos from a upnp media server, but nothing free as far as i can tell.
kalemsoft media player seems to be the best of these as it lets you load video files from the local storage on your tablet as well as browse for remote stuff.
i have successfully played an avi file using this app.
i've only tried the demo version so far which requires internet access in order to assess the trial period.
i don't particularly want to purchase the paid version just yet.
I used Handbrake and followed the instructions here: http://forums.precentral.net/hp-tou...n-resources/287212-handbrake-preset-dvds.html I just tried a short 45 minute kids dvd to see if it would work okay. It was about a 400mb file. Placed it in a folder called Videos on the root of the usb partition and it shows up fine in the Photos and Videos app.

see i tried doing that as well. creating a folder called videos on the root and it wasn't detected.
only when i added the file direct to root could i access it.
are directory names case sensitive?
a video player that allows you to browse and/or add directories would be much better.
EDIT: looks like i had a folder called video. changed it to videos and it shows up.
strangely enough kalemsoft creates a folder recordings. when i added a video file to that, it also showed up.
I have put my videos in the download folder and they show up in the stock player fine. Also converted DIVX avi files to MP4 with Handbrake. Used the ipad HD settings for nice quality.
Kalemsoft Media Player wil read a lot of video formats , you can find it on app catalog.
The kalemsof that i downloaded isnt displaying in full screen and sometimes will hang on my TP. Guess its still not compatible to TP yet?
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA

Thanx for the tip about Handbrake, nunja. I'll try it for conversions. I concur with the settings...
I'm on a Pre 2 and have no problems with mp4 playing (once you get the settings down it becomes rote). For my phone I use iPod settings...
For ripping from DVD I use DVDFab3 - I know there are way newer versions out there and I tried them but always go back to version 3. I just like the UI and it has never let me down. Point it at a DVD or ISO and under Mobile click Generic. You can configure it for generic mp4 and get a resolution up to 848x480 which should be alright on the TP screen. Your settings like Resolution, bitrate, volume level, subpicture - can all be saved as a profile.
DVDFab3 in a .rar file. Just extract and it will run out of the folder without install...
