[THINK TANK] /data/app_s on internal memory- FASTER SPEED FOR HERO ROMS - G1 Android Development

Hero roms with the apps normally stored (with apps2sd) on /system/sd/app_s instead in /system/app are MUCH FASTER. The internal memory is faster than a partition on the sd card, no matter what. I like what ccyrowski and manup456 have done with their sensehero 1.4 rom: (their changelog follows)
SenseHERO-v1.4 - Themed and Unthemed
*Move all system apps internal to speed things up (like before). Free memory will be lower. This is not a bad thing.
*Updated user.conf by MikeTaylor00. Appears to fix the reboots and wake up issues.
*Updated theme by Manup456 (BIG PROPS!)
*Increased dalvik heap size
*adjusted mic sensitivity
SAME AS BEFORE (ALL THAT HERO GOODNESS)

Another rom that did this was maxisma's roms back in the 1.6-1.8 days.
These roms put all of the htc/default apps like rosie, messaging, browser, calendar, etc. on the internal memory, but still allow for apps2sd for all of your market apps, etc.
This is especially helpful for those who don't have a class 6 sd card, but will also help the class 6 users as well, as the internal memory is faster even than a class 6.
The goal of this thread is to invent a method to "convert" hero roms to use this layout of apps.

I think ever hero does that now

sorry about caps, too lazy to fix it now. But some heros use apps_int

every hero does the system apps on internal? no, theyre all on SD... except for two listed...

However the directory apps_s exists in all the hero roms.

I don't even know why some of you are still even using hero.
1.5 is old and hero runs slow on these other phones that were not made for hero.

true... but what about hero 2.1?

[ROM] Tiny Hero Version 1 Revision 2 Bugfix 0 ~Fit, damn it, fit!~

Tiny Hero
Many, many thanks to both Enomther and akirah. This is mostly their work that I took and mashed together to make this build work. They're both easily the most helpful guys in the community (and they do reply to PMs!)
Change log in post #2 (I have to use it for something)
What is this?
This is a Hero Build that fits completely on the system partition of Haykuro's special SPL. Nothing is written to data, nothing is written to app_s. There's no official support for a2sd (although you can download the app from the market and use it, it should work fine). It does compcache with backing swap in your linux-swap partition by default if you have a third partition.
What's different about all other Hero builds?
This build was put together with one goal in mind; having as full a Hero experience without requiring/using a2sd or usage of the data partition.
This build doesn't require you to have an apps2sd partition set up, or a swap partition, though swap is recomended for aggressive use of the build.
What does this build require?
All this build requires is the newest radio and haykuro's SPL ("new spl"). I put in a lot of things in the system partition, though you still have about 1 MB free for you to play with.
What's missing in this build?
Due to size constraints, I had to do away with some things (not a lot though), compromise with other things, and add other things. Here's a short list:
-Bluetooth doesn't work on any hero build, move on...
-Footprints. Really.... Do you use it?.... Anyway, requires a lot of space... no thanks.
-PDF Reader. I removed PDF Reader because of the size of the library required to run it. I won't be adding that library because it's too big.
-Java. I didn't want to remove this, but the app and libs are much too big to justify.
-Stocks app and widget
-Weather app and widget. They're much, much too big and nothing but eye candy. if you really need a weather widget, there's several free small ones in the market. I also removed them because I the Clock widget doesn't seem to work right at displaying weather info anyway, so having the apps or not didn't make a difference that way.
-Maps. Big app. I removed it because you can download it from the market, and you can upgrade it later on.
-Wifi Tether. It's not included in this build so you can upgrade it, when it's part of /system, upgrade fails. Plus, I wanted to give you the choice to have it. It does work.
-Alarms, Notifications, and Ringtones. Only left one of each for size. Sorry.
What's included in this build?
I'm pleased to announce that this newer build is much, much better than the old beta I had made before (and that had been understandably ignored by pretty much everyone) here's what's still in the build:
-Flash Player. Yay!!!!. A build under 87 MB (original build, 89 MB with rev1) with full flash support, both in the browser and as streaming video. It's a resoruce hog, though, so use with care (you can disable plugins in the browser settings to deal with this). Note though, because I didn't test, original build and rev1 dont support flash. It was a simple issue, but rev2 is the same as the other two but much, much better. Instead of me uploading the previous two builds with flash working, i recomend you install the newest build instead.
-Social Networking. It's all there and they all work as you'd expect them to. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, even Plurk. It's also got Plurk's and Twitter's widgets.
-Widgets!!!!!. This build has the HTC Bookmarks, Calendar, Clock, Mail, Messages, Music, People, Photo Album and Photo Frame, Plurk, Search, Settings, and Twitter Widgets. Short of Stocks and Weather, that's all of them!!!
-HTC_IME!!!!!. I made it fit!!!!! Latin_IME was removed because HTC_IME is so much better. I kept a replacement, though, CN Thai Keyboard, it's a very, very very light app (20k) that doesn't require any libraries, being 50 times smaller than Latin_IME (with libs), the choice was obvious.
-HTC Music, MMS, and Lockscreen. I've included these three in the same category because the Lockscreen brings them together. When playing with HTC music and you lock your phone, you can use the lockscreen controls, you also get MMS previews at the lockscreen.
-Quickoffice. Added it back to the build. If HTC includes it, then I guess it's ok.
-HTC World Clock
-HTC Camera and albums. I would have included Google's camera, because it's a 5 MB savings and it works exactly the same, but then that would have broken the ability to add wallpapers for home and lockscreen and I wasn't going to have that... by the way....
-PC Sync. I made this rom with this goal in mind; Nothing force-closes. Other hero roms you have to be careful not to click, say, Plurk during HTC Setup or PC Sync at settings because they're removed. I wanted to give you the freedom to click anything on this rom with the guarantee that it wouldn't force close, so I included all required apps by all the possibly clickable things available in the build.
-Market. No market problems here. Test it though and let me know.
Recomendations
-Use Sense (pun intended). Your HTC Dream has less memory than HTC Hero. Swap should never be considered to be real memory (it's not). I recomend that, if you use Rosie, populate only 3, max 5 screens. A lot of widgets slow the Launcher down, eat up memory, and you end up dropping processes a lot more than you should.
-Install OverclockWidget. This rom is not overclocked (mostly, because I've no idea yet how to set it to 528mhz by default, plus for battery reasons), and OverclockWidget gives you good control over your settings. It's a free market app, so there's no reason not to get it.
-Enable linux-swap if you have a class 6 card. Again, swap should never be considered working memory (because it's not) but having a bigger swap file means less processes are lost (since they're dumped to the swap file when physical memory is full and needed). If you don't use linux swap, the rom reverts to compcache only (without backing swap) with 32 MB of compcache and a swappiness of 0 (this seems to prevent Rosie re-loads). If you don't have a class 6 card, you can still use backing-swap if you have a third partition, though doing many things simultaneously (like playing music while on the browser) will slow your phone down and have music skips.
-Reboot your phone nightly (per charge). This clears swap and ram and gives your device that fresh feeling every time.
-Donate to devs. The pioneer devs deserve it. They don't run on hopes and dreams and without them, your device wouldn't be better than what you originally bought.

Flash the rom the usual way. Again, make sure you have Haykuro's Radio and SPL (install radio first). First boot takes a while (sorry, I tried making an odexed version with 89 MB free on first boot, but it adds about 20 MB to system and that's just unacceptable, I'd lose too many apps. Maybe I'll try later for giggles.). After it's done dexopting, the HTC Setup wizard takes a while to start (this is the same on all 2.x hero versions). I tried to fix this by using Google's setup instead, but for some reason it made the build lose support for SD Card and media, so HTC Setup stays.
Here's the download link for the roms:

Lastly, this rom is provided as is. It's your responsibility if you want to flash it. Any damages are your own fault. I reserve the right to support this rom from requests, and I don't plan on having a regular update schedule. This is just here for people to play with and see if they like it, or for devs to take it and maybe make it better. In case of thermonuclear warfare, wipe your phone and install Cyanogen's instead.
Credit goes to HTC for making the Hero build, Enomther (boot.img, expinit script, and the knowledge to make it all work. This is one of the most helpful guys in the community, so donate to him), Tehseano(Alarm clock skin and several skins in the google launcher), Akirah and Jac (2.83.x.x build and akirah's libs to make it work on the G1), Manup and Ted (skins for music and search widgets), Cyanogen (I believe parts of the included scripts are his ideas) and whoever else's work is in one way or another in this build, if I missed you, PM me, tell me what you did, and I'll add it. I did not make this, I merely put it together and made it work.
Change log
=jmHero.zip=
-Initial Release
-No Support for HTC_IME
-Missing StreetView
-Only one alarm, notification, and ringtone
-Expinit enables only compcache with 40 swappiness by default, no linux-swap (it's supported, but not enabled by the script)
=jmHerov1r1b0.zip= ~Because version numbers matter~
v1 means version 1 (same version as initial release)
r1 means revision 1 (added HTC_IME support and Streetview)
b0 means bugfix 0 (didn't fix anything, sorry)
-Added HTC_IME support:
-libt9.so in /system/lib
-Clicker.apk in /system/app
-push it back through adb to /data/app (pull it from another build)
-Added StreetView.apk so you can use StreetView (sorry, I overlooked in initial release)
-Added all notification and alarm sounds
-Modified the expinit script, swappiness is now more agressive (40), compcache size is now "real" 32 mb (32,768 kb up from 32,000 kb), and linux-swap is now enabled by default if a third partition is present
=jmHerov1r2b0.zip= ~Fit, damn it, fit!~
-Removed AlarmClock as HTC World Clock and Widgets are now included (along with all 12 clocks)
-Added CNSoftKeyboard to replace Latin_IME as an input option. It's much, much smaller.
-Added HTC_IME as standard keyboard
-Added Terminal Emulator
-Added Weather Provider and Location Picker, necessary for HTC World Clock and Widget
-Added HTC Photo Widget, this came from the beta version of hero because the newest one wouldn't work without some big libs I removed. It works fine, but no animations.
-Added Quickoffice
-Added HTC Search Widget
-Added /clockwidget/ and /lockscreen/land/ folders in /etc to enable the additional 7 clocks and landscape lockscreen wallpaper
-Added WP_0409WWE.db to /etc, this is basically the City list you get in Location Picker
-Replaced fonts with a smaller (per byte) set
-Replaced libicudata.so in /lib with a smaller one from ADP 1.5. This lib controls video compression for the camera, and it seems to work just fine, plus it's 2 MB smaller than the hero one.
-Removed akmk8973, bts, ssd_bma150_usr, and zcghd in /bin. bts is used for controling bluetooth aspects of the build, but bluetooth doesn't work, so i removed it (and it was big, 1 MB). The other three, I have no idea what they do, but nothing broke afterwards, so they stay off.
-Removed Hero and Sapphire hardware libraries, this is a Dream build.
-Removed alarms and notifications that I had uploaded in previous build, did this for size (though I'm still debating which was better, having all 7 clocks, or all notifications and alarms). Kept only one of each.
-Removed keyboards and keyboard layouts for non-english non-qwerty keyboards. Sorry, somebody else can work them back into another build.
-Modified expinit script to enable either standalone compcache or compcache with backing swap and adjust the swappiness depending on expected usage. I also included a call for a2sd, though I didn't include an a2sd script because I couldn't make one that worked. If somebody wishes to work on this, all you need to do is have an a2sd script in /system/bin, and expinit will automatically call it. DONT USE EXISTING SCRIPTS, they don't work and they'll break whatever you have in your second partition.
Wow never thought that this could b done gonna test it now
I'll look at it in some time

Please have a look at Market downloads if all works. I might have to add some things to build.prop and update-script. I made a build of this same one but for my own use (added all my backed-up apks to /data/app inside the update.zip) and market won't work, but I remember it working on the original one I had made. I don't know if it's broken on this one, and I'll be sleeping soon and then working so I won't be able to flash again until tomorrow and I want to know if I have to fix Market.
---Edit---
Tested this myself. Market works (don't know about paid apps, never bought anything). When I downloaded from the market on my other build it would give me an error saying there was no space left anymore, when I had a full 48mb left. My guess is that I have to set up persmissions for data/app in update-script to fix this.

This seems like it has potiential to have a really fast responsive Rosie !
Awesome work and I look forward to the newer more stable builds.

thanks to barakinflorida, I might have a solution for the lockscreen (different boot.img). I'll try it and see if it doesn't break anything else.
ive been trying to do this with the newest release, but no luck so far, cant get it to boot once i get it small enough and some reason not getting any log cat to say where im goin wrong, downloading urs to try now and might try some optimizing on that instead if thats ok with u

Removing busybox helps a lot, but then you lose things like a2sd, and other things. With this build you won't have any space left in system to play around with, but feel free to improve it. I want people to do that.
I'll actually start working on a build using what I learned from this one but based on Jac and Drizzy's hero. If I'm right, I should have 87mb free in data w/o a2sd on first boot.

Reboot the phone. If that doesn't work, wipe and flash again. Make sure you have the correct SPL (it should throw an error during installation if you don't because system will run out of space quickly).
I've been thinking that there might be slight differences in partitions, some people might have a few kb less than others. I'll try to re-work the build with a 5 mb headroom for error.
I'm at work, so it'll take a day maybe.
---edit---
Ok, weird bug. This happened to me too. I lost the AlarmClock.apk, but it's still in there. I seem to be losing space in /system, so I do think I crammed too much in there. I'll check some more, but for now, restore your nandroid backups, this build is as of now unstable.
POST FROM OLDER BUILD, IGNORE
Ok, the problem is not too severe. I did use a lot more space than I should have in /system, and that's why the app lossage is happening. Unfortunately, it seems you don't have a say which apps you lose, like Daneshm, you might lose a system critical one like the phone. I'll re-work it down to ~85 MB and put it up again. Right now I'm at work checking the forum from my phone, so I can't work the fix, but I'll be home at around 5 AM East Time, so maybe I'll test a slimmer build and put it up (sorry guys, we might lose Twitter)...
im gonna work on getting this to work with a2sd and the stock spl

Shouldn't be too hard. I think the system is about 60 mb with app removed, so moving that to app_s and symlinking it would certainly make it work with a2sd, but my original intent was to not use a2sd at all. I like being able to hot-swap my memory card.
I'm home now, so I'll work on a different idea I had. I won't promise anything though.
ok im uploading a version for stock spl now, it still doesnt use a2sd but im working on adding that if needed

Yeah. I know about flash reader, but some people like it. What I think I'll do later on is add it instead to /data/app along with Quickoffice and Big fat HTC_IME

I haven't been able to replicate the problem with the disappearing apps yet, plus I'm working on another project (the tiny hero based on the new releases). I'm also thinking I'll remove the Lockscreen and fix the hero beta one (it's completely transparent) instead. The lockscreen lags, and without the HTC music app, it's also kind of useless

[ROM][32B] ::HTC Sense:: RZR v1.2 and SuperLite Series ("The Essentials") [10/31]
O.K. folks, here's the details:
This ROM is a customized assortment of various builds that you can find in both the Dream development section; not to mention within the Sapphire section as well. I will issue credit where it's appropriate for each "source" of included material such as; visual alterations, applications, optimization, and kernels.
I've decided to use the "Evil Hero" series for the basis of my work. "eViL D:" has courteously provided our community with his hard work and dedication for the past several months. I'm merely an "apprentice" who has learned some "tricks of the trade". Now, having said that; the current build version [1.0] is considered to be "STABLE". THIS IS NOT A SPEED-BASED ROM! I have created this for ideal DAILY USAGE; nothing more.
I'd like to formally offer my thanks and show appreciation to the following people:
eViL D:, ccyrowski, JAC, eugene373, MLIGN, Stericson, Cyanogen, TwistedUmbrella, Amon_RA, and of course...last but not least, Drizzy.
WHAT'S SUGGESTED & REQUIRED TO UTILIZE THIS BUILD PROPERLY?
Here's my list of suggestions and/or requirements for this version to function properly on your device:
HTC Sapphire or T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. (32B)
1.33.2005 or 1.33.2009 SPL choices.
Class 6 microSDHC (The MB sizes are irrelevant)
Amon_RA's latest recovery image.
FAT32 / EXT2 or higher / Linux Swap partition (96MB +)
(Blah, blah, blah...I could go on for days in regards to this topic.)
Alright, so now that the "usual" statements have been made; here's what you can expect from the RZR series:
Magic "HTC Sense" build version - 3.03.751.4 series.
2.6.29.6 JAC-ski [email protected] #5 (BFS-230) for STABILITY.
FULL-FEATURED BUILD; which includes ALL of the original system applications.
Completely optimized system applications; including the widgets.
NON-A2SD version.
GPS & Wi-Fi are 100% functional.
v7.0 "SUPER LOUD" AUDIO HACK (release 2) Generation Files.
Bluetooth can PAIR; but not generate audio via HEADSET. Microsoft Sync (Stereo Bluetooth) does work.
LED notifications are 100% functional as well; including various colors.
Multilingual capabilities.
"Reignzone's PERSONAL" user.conf - (COMPCACHE IS DISABLED / LINUX-SWAP IS ENABLED BY DEFAULT!)
NO CPU FREQUENCY SAMPLING OR VIRTUAL MEMORY SUBSTITUTION BY DEFAULT! (USE THE OVERCLOCK WIDGET!)
For a "boost in performance"; ODEX your applications via ADB with this command: adb shell sh system/bin/userinit.sh
Semi-transparent lockscreen and notification tray.
ALL original "HTC" and MOTOBLUR wallpapers.
ALL original ringtones & notifications from T-Mobile and HTC.
MMS prioritizing available.
There are several "personal touches" included for added functionality.
"Unlogged" HTC_IME.
[More to come soon...]
I AM NOT, CANNOT, AND/OR WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE; UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FOR DAMAGE YOU MAY POTENTIALLY CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE!

Here are the OVERCLOCK WIDGET user settings that are insisted on while using this ROM:
SCREEN ON FREQ = Minimum of 384MHz / Maximum of 528MHz
(For battery preservation) Enable the use of "different frequencies" while the screen is hibernating.
SCREEN OFF FREQ = Minimum of 245MHz / Maximum of 384MHz
ADVANCED SETTINGS: Adjust the "Update Interval" to either FIVE or TEN seconds for the most efficient results.
[DO NOT FORGET TO ENABLE THE "SUPPRESS NOTIFICATIONS" FEATURE!]
OPERATION SETTINGS: ENABLE the "Auto Start On Boot" function; immediately afterwards, select SAVE!
There is one minor bug I'm working on patching for the next release that involves the "last screen display" that momentarily appears after every reboot; RIGHT BEFORE the boot animation initializes!

Very interesting...testing out Eugene's Magic build for a day or two, but 1.5 looks promising.
does bluetooth/wifi/gps work?
is there a call delay?
Tested on 32B, fat32+96MB swap, class 2 SD:
Works nice, but it loads home (htc screen) every time I leave an app, I'll try with 128MB swap. This was happening me, but less times, with MLIGN's Sense and 32MB swap, and none at all with Maxisma's and 96MB swap.

A: It's a simple upgrade. In fact, if you really wanted to you could edit the "a2sd" script in the system/bin to enable it by default. Either way, I plan to release an A2SD version IF the demand is significant.

A: The reason their builds do NOT produce a loading screen "out of the box" is because they have both CompCache and Linux-Swap enabled by default. I DO NOT! Also, their user.conf files are probably using some form of CPU frequency sampling automatically upon reboot initiation. Mine once more; is NOT! The Overclock widget is the BEST possible alternative for that. It offers more user settings for sampling your frequency to your likeness at any given time. Not to mention, that saves virtually everyone time for NOT having to edit their user.conf files, remount, then push them via ADB, and reboot. Once you've overclocked my ROM...it's incredibly snappy.

Ok, sorry
Installed swapper and OC widget, now it works really well
I flashed with 60 swapiness, and after 80, with a 96Mb partition, and it is very very slow...loading screen after each launched apk, things that i didn't have with Eugene Rom..
i don't think you can say this rom require 96mb+ swap, because it depend of the user..the rom works better with 32mb and 40 mb swapiness!
I'll change to TTran rom when new release will be Out.

That's great, but can I ask for a option to disable Swap on 32A version?
Very articulated well written intro Reighzone. If anything I at least enjoyed reading it.

The reason you had the loading screens is because I HAVE SWAP ENABLED BY DEFAULT. And it's running with 80% swappiness. Therefore, you doubled-up on the swap space that was available to you...which is never a good thing. That can freeze, crash, and boggle down your device in a matter of hours. YOU NEED TO OVERCLOCK this ROM with either SetCPU or Overclock widget. I recommend Overclock widget, as I've told others...it's NOT overclocked by default. Once you've actually done that, this will really start moving for you.
I don't have CompCache enabled by default. Again, this isn't a speed-based ROM. It's designed to be one of the only builds that does NOT cause a random reboot during usage or be unable to "wake" from the "sleep state".
And YES, the size of the Linux Swap partition DOES matter. The larger the swap space; the more room there is for your device to substitute that designated area for reading and writing of data. I have a 200MB swap partition...and I've shot YouTube videos to prove this...but there is NO LAG whatsoever with my particular settings. NONE! No loading screens, nothing like that at all.

I haven't had any reported issues on that. Also...I've tested it personally, and it seems to work just fine. It went off this morning, although...it's my day off this week; so I slept through it. I saw the notification this morning when I finally rolled out of bed.
I'll tell you what though; to spare any possible "late for work" type of issues for people...I'm going to release another Apps Pack today that will include a couple of choices for an alarm clock.

I ask this because my alarm didn't work this afternoon. I set up the alarm to ring at 3:30 on 2:30 (I didn't use my phone in this duration), but one hour later, the alarm didn't ring at all. It seems not work after a long stand by period. I'll keep testing see if my assumption is right. Everything works greatly except the alarm issue. Thank you.

Hi there Reignzone, just wanted to say that i'm keeping an eye on your RZR rom haven't used it yet cause eViL's v3sr3 is working like a charm for a couple of days now.
Will maybe try out yours next week, or when you've gotten a newer version with stable new kernel(s).
Still i think it is a great job you've done by making your own rom. Nice work!

Yes, it's because the application MUST have it's permissions fixed. Also, don't hesitate to fix package mismatches...then reboot; after that, the application will work like a charm. Trust me. If there's any force closing at all during your system operation, reboot into recovery, fix permissions...then fix package mismatches.
I HAVE NOT experienced a SINGLE force close for anything yet. I've been using my build for about 30 hours now. I'm still yet to reboot...and it's STILL quite fast, fluid, and reliable. No screen lock issues, no black screens, no random reboots.

[ROM]|[32B/A & G1] eViL SenSe v2.0.1 & nano SenSe v2.0.2 [2/27/10]

EXPERIMENTAL!
So much for my little hiatus. Now, during my relaxing period, I had an epiphany of sorts. I though, how can we get Sense/Hero to run even more quickly and smoothly. I first looked at a "normal" cupcake/donut ROM, the first thing that stood out in my mind is use of the system partition. Now, in these normal ROM's, everything is on 1 partition, and thus you generally get a faster experience (Yes, I know about the slow NAND). In Sense/Hero ROM's, most cooks have decided to offload the system/app to the data partition. In doing this, you have plenty of space to create a full featured Hero build. But, by doing so, the system/app (symlinked) is cut off from the rest of the guts. This causes alot of problems when libs or the framework call on the apps, mainly LAG or total freezes! I've decided to try to cut out the middle man, like Tom Shane. Now, there is a limit on how much can be put in the system partition, but no data, so building a ROM like this is really tricky. You HAVE to sacrifice some things, but my goal is to get everything wedged in there. Realistically, it's not possible, but I will try.
On with my new creation.
What is it?
Sense build based off 32A dump. Fully optimized by me.
What makes it special?
Everything is on the SYSTEM partition! I'd love to see someone build something faster. Seriously!
Did you have to cut things out?
Yes, but I don't consider this (SenSe) a "LIGHT" ROM
Code:
AmazonMP3.apk
com.htc.StockWidget.apk
FieldTest.apk
HtcFootprints.apk
HtcFootprintsWidget.apk
HtcLog.apk
HtcRingtoneTrimmer.apk
HtcSoundRecorder.apk
IM.apk
Maps.apk
PCSCII.apk
PDFViewer.apk
Plurk.apk
Plurkwidget.apk
Stock.apk
Twitterwidget.apk
VoiceDialer.apk
Is it a work in progress?
Not really. It's actually pretty stable. But, me being me, it'll probably be constantly updated.
Can it be improved?
I hope so! I'm hoping to get more apps super optimized by either me or the community. Suggestions can also make it better.
Will it work on 32A or G1?
No Idea, but feel free to try it out and let me know.
Anything else?
I moved Customize, etc and Fonts to the Data partition. They just sit there for the most part. Oh yeah, no apps to sd. No Boot screen, yes, it will just turn black! And, one other thing, it's ENGLISH ONLY! for now.....
What is required?
32B, 3 partitions (if I want to be a hardass, I can make it only 2) fat32, ext/2/3 and linux-swap and 1/2 a brain.
Thanks?
Yes, Jac, ccyrowski, Drizzy, Twisted & cyanogen. The XDA community, goldenarmz, coolbho3000 and anybody else I forgot.

****nano SenSe ROM is made for customization. It is bare bones Sense. The newest version will allow for you to install about 9-10MB of apps left out to the system partition. You will still have 250mb+ of space on the data partition/internal flash.
Check out nano SenSe in action here! Thanks Lumsdoni!
nano SenSe 2.0.2 (test)
Re-optimized
Added gscripts & scripts
Changes sounds
nano SenSe 2.0.1 for 32A with BT
Uses hotweiss HoFo kernel from 3.0.7
Should work fine for 32A users without any modifications
32B users, it will REQUIRE you to flash the 32A radio AND recovery in order for this to work.Follow eugene373 instructions in his OP HERE.
Version for 32B uses eugene's 32A kernel (awesome job!) ***Seems to be an issue with this kernel. I would hold off flashing it until eugene gets things sorted out.
Use Swapper with 32B
nano SenSe 2.0.1
Fixed app icon sizes
Fixed Android analog clock
Fixed Calendar Widget FC
Fixed Phone icon
Little more app optimization
nano Sense v2.0
More optimization
more space 2.6mb + 6.5
Droid app icons
Droid wallpapers via Scenes
nano SenSe 1.3
Slight optimizations
A tiny bit more space, not sure how much exactly
Themed just a little (thx twisted)
JAC #5 kernel
Changed fallback font (for users that frequest Asian sites, let me know if this worked)
nano SenSe v1.2
Some more small optimizations
Saved around 200k space
Changed wallpapers
Clicker works now, can calibrate IME
Updated build.prop
nano SenSe v1.1
Changed kernel. (if you flash an app in the downloads, you should go to the kernel folder and reflash the kernel back)
Small optimizations
Removed all apps on Data partition
No widgets or shortcuts loaded on the homescreen. (Most of you probably remove anyway)
6 wallpapers available through "Scenes"
250+MB of free internal flash!
nano SenSe v1
Basically the same as eViL SenSe v1.5 (check the change log), BUT
Everything is on system partition now, even customize, etc and fonts (Can it get any faster?)
Removed ALL widgets
Removed some weather dbs
Linux-swap only
Around 6.5MB free on sys. to push back to system/app (only can do this AFTER first boot)
Text file with what's not included
Addon/update package for nano SenSe which will basically add widgets and apps that aren't possible with the initial flash. Here's what's included: AmazonMP3, Ringtone Trimmer, Twitter, Voice Dialer, and Sound Recorder. Widgets: Music, Twitter, Weather, Bookmarks, Calendar, Clock, Message & Photo. Old boot screen is now included, but doesn't sync correctly. Will be in the update folder. Boot to recovery and flash. You DO NOT need to wipe. **Only for nano SenSe!
NEW! Signed apps for all widgets/apps missing from the base nano SenSe build. Since you only have around 6.5MB of space to install to the system partition, I have made it simple so you can choose. Simply download, copy to the root of your SD, reboot to recovery and flash. You do not need to wipe. After the names of each name, there is a number. That number is how big the file is and how much space it will use. It's all in KB. 1024KB = 1MB.***All the app packages use Drizzy's Kernelhttp://www.4shared.com/dir/22757573/cd7d8422/Signed_app_updates.htmlhttp://www.4shared.com/dir/22757573/cd7d8422/Signed_app_updates.html

No boot screen! Don't complain, it saves space. Maybe i'll move it later.
No Bluetooth, don't even try to start it
No Wallpapers, it WILL FC if you try to add one from the gallery (or was it the album?)
More I might add later if I can remember. Brain is burnt right now and so is my ION.....

You bring up an excellent idea; however, it's just not as easy as all that. It's the hint of individualism that developers strive for. If we were to create some "SUPER ROM" then our individual talents would become obsolete; lost in translation.
I've considered something along those lines though...so it's not completely absurd to suggest that as you did.
Sadly there will never been a "perfect Rom", As each Dev. has a personal touch to each Rom, and what he/she feels is acceptable per there Rom's.
As stated, we could work together, but then surely, Somethings would not be ideal for others in the group, which in turn could very well slow progress down, or even halt the production completely.
I for one Would offer PS skills to that Dev., But to say what should be in a rom is anyone's guess.
Mainly We do it out of Bored, or just really enjoy fiddling with things.
*Back to topic.*
One thing I've noticed, is no Ring lag so I'll definitely be adding the media back to the system Folder.
Great Job eViL
ugh, 4shared, why do you ruin my life?
Anyone have a mirror? Id really like to give this Hero a try. I liked the speed of the other superlite ROMs, and all the extras dont appeal to me anyways.

i flashed the device with this 3 times, every try the same Problem.
sorry for my bad English!
-----
so I have tried a UID mismatch fix. it seems to run.
Hey evil, could you tell me exactly which widgets have been nixed. I definitely must have the calender widget (full size) and maybe the music widgets. Other than that I can live without the rest. Thanks in advance.
Available are the search and the Clock! and the normal android widgets!
btw, i'm not able to insert a new APN, i cant write anything at the textboxes like APN Name, APN, Username or password. Only numbers!
Is there a way to push any of those widgets that have been taken out? If so, could someone explain how to?
Wow good work Evil...it's good to see someone doing some different ! Downloading now and will flash in a second. I can't wait to see this one.

Ram Hack and Apps 2 SD on Qtechnology 32B Sense UI DUMP?

Is there anyone who can create a RAM Hack or Apps 2 SD on the Qtechnology Sense UI rom because all apps install on the internal mem of phone instead of the sd card which uses about 68mb! also the ram hack will also prevent Lag and leave more room for apps since htcsense.apk sucks up all the RAM. Just a suggestion to possibly fix the lag on the Hero/Sense UI Roms

[ROM]SuperCSDIv4 by MLIGN- one of the FASTEST Donuts till date!!

- for those who dont like to see anymore Donut ROMs - I am so sorry
- for people who believe only Donut is good for their G1 - it's time to rejoice having a Donut again
- This is NOT my ROM, I am NOT a Dev...I am sharing from MLIGNs Modification of the [email protected] ROM CSDIv4
- since many Devs are posting CSDI-variants in the Forum, this should easily be another candidate....the reason is simple: its the most stable and fastest of all the other Builds of CSDI so far

Features:
Working APN
Fastesttttt, "Was getting up to 2.326 on Linpack with this ROM compared to 2.309* SuperD 1.9.3. Also awesome 3D scores although I don't play and 3D games on it. Didn't have 3D on SuperD as I was running ramhack."
- synaptic_d
*some people reported even lower FLOPS for SuperD (2.273 or so) inLinpack
No Maps, Install it by urselves
Two Themes - white and Black, changeable from built in Metamorph app
Fixed Keyboard for English
QuickBoot
NO RAM Hack, still faster than anything!!
SWAP from SuperSetup
COMPCACHE from Spare-parts
BT File Transfer
Estrongs File Explorer
Supersetup4
JrosMetamorph (no need for andexplorer)
wired/wireless Tethering
Fixed everything that caused CSDI to be unpopular ;-)
Most stable Variant of CSDI
Application response is tremendous fast

1. My BT headset does not receive audio from the Phone, what's wrong?
> it's a known Bug with this ROM, No fixes yet but you can always try enabling 'Special Bluetooth' from 'Supersetup/Special Options' and/or try this fix
2. I can't seem to find my EXT partition to install/restore applications to, why?
> There is an Option in Supersetup/Options/APPS2SD and LinuxSwap/ there you can enable Apps2SD. Also pay application can be made available from there.
3. My phone crashes after I set some profile in SetCPU, what can I do?
> Domt use Set CPU, use CPU Options from Supersetup instead.
4. I dont Like the Theme very much, any Idea?
> use any metamorph theme through JrosMetamorph application built-in with this ROM. OR use the themes attached in theme section (Above)
5. Sometimes returning to Home screen takes ages, what the hack?

did u maintain the basics.?.. Just asking,
full wipe and then flash....should work fine....
I have Apps2SD functioning...
Higher MFLOPS values doesn't necessarily mean an all around faster ROM, as I was easily getting 3.6's on FastTest with JIT and the RAM hack, any CSDI based ROM is going to be faster than SuperD even with JIT and the 10MB RAM hack, yet CSDI has yet to reach MFLOPS values above 3.0.
Flashed, and it honestly feels just as snappy as zachattack052's Beta ROM (which had the APN and keybaord fix as well as Brut's mod'd google maps) Good job on the fixes, MLIGN.

No apps2sd
Ok so I did a full wipe and my sd card is already partitioned. Flashed this rom. Now the SupSetup v4 app won't run on my device. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and still the same problem. No apps2sd for me on this rom?
u gotta go in to supsetup and do it threw there its an option...then check it then restart
Blazing fast on the g1 ~ coming from latest cyanogen.
But im missing eclair browser, clock and mt
My report
The most amazing thing about this rom....
its not capable of running Jit due to the lack of Eclair in framework,
and it doesn't have ramhack, don't think it's capable of that either, but probably could be done,
and yet it still defines itself to be the fastest donut of all! Without all the memory hacks, amazing. Even more astonishing for the 3D game lovers.
Aside from linpack or speedtest scores, This is down right the fastest rom I ever used, including the multiple versions released by all the devs who edited it to their own flavor (zachattack052,domenukk, to name a couple)
So big ups to this thread, as I love to see another version of it has been docked for my collection of downloads
For those of you who haven't tried it, you really should...if you like the level of speed from fastTest(superfast now) and Super D...then you will absolutely fall in love with this one.
I get a 3.596 flop using Complete Eclair 1.2 ... and this is a donut rom and only gets 2.326?
Either way, its good to see people still updating 1.6 roms for historical purposes.

Complete Eclair uses Jit...and feels nowhere close to what this rom feels like (speed, smooth, snappy).
But that is usually how it goes when comparing 1.6 to 2.1 on a G1. I hope Wes G (OE 2.0) can change all that.
Complete Eclair CAN use JIT. It doesn't come stock with JIT to my knowledge.

LOL you are correct I was thinking SuperEclair which comes stock with JIT enabled.
But lets be realistic...you can't pull 3.5 - 3.6 consistently without JIT enabled on a G1.
